"Big Sur River Inn offers two tiers of rooms: roadside motel and its suites along the Big Sur River. Both options offer a convenient location with spacious rooms in the heart of Big Sur, but the riverside suites are more peaceful, surrounded by the river and the redwoods, whereas the roadside motel is right along busy Highway 1. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"The vibe: Touristed roadside inn. Top amenities: Riverfront restaurant and bar, adjacent convenience store and deli. Best for: Road tripping motorists looking for comfy digs for the night. What's nearby: The Big Sur River and Andrew Molera State Park. Entering Big Sur Village from the north, this is the first property that greets you with snug motel-style rooms with updated finishes. Its indoor-outdoor restaurant sits along the banks of the Big Sur River and is usually abuzz with tourists. The real draw are the Adirondack chairs strewn about the river’s shallow waters. Nab a seat and a glass of wine, and dip your toes in the cooling ripples."

Beautiful rooms overlooking the river, comfortable cabin like feel. The nearby restaurant and store were very convenient (general stores breakfast burritos were outstanding). Only complaint was that sound...I could hear all of our neighbors talking, watching TV, and baby.

My boyfriend & I stayed here overnight following a wedding and I’m sad to say that we will not be returning anytime soon. We got to our hotel and was allowed to grab our keys at noon, which was nice. However, the unfortunate circumstances came later that night after the wedding. There is absolutely no indication of where each room is and my boyfriend and I spent 20 minutes walking around the entire property on the side of the street with the restaurant, which is where we assumed all the rooms were. However, they were all across the street on the other side. We walked into our room and were bummed to see stains all over the carpet, moldy caulking in the shower, and we could hear everything. We got in bed to find out our tv was not working at all, we were not able to watch cable and it recommended us call the front desk (this was unavailable because it was after hours), however, we could ironically hear the people next to us watching cable perfectly fine. In fact, the walls here are so thin, we can not only hear every single car that drives by but also the people watching their television perfectly as well as every conversation they were having. All in all this reminded me of an overpriced Motel 6 and we were super bummed as we heard great things from the reviews and family members. However, as previously stated, it is unlikely we will ever stay here again.

It is not a three star hotel, it is a glorified lodge. The staff is generally impolite, especially, the old lady with hat on. She has a look on her face and she just tolerating the world. I stayed there end of August and we paid $550 per night, at that price, at minimum, I expect a five star level of service which was not there. They try to justify the price saying ‘ location’ But I think you are better off staying 15-20 miles up or down the road and save some money. There’s nothing beautiful about just being at this lodge, the beauty lies up or down the road, so no point paying for an overpriced lodge.

Very nice overall. Yes the rooms are very expensive but they put some nice touches. We had a River Suite with beautiful views of the creek. Small touches that make a difference: french press coffee in the room, nice redwood furniture, real feather pillows, rocking chairs outside your room, pool is heated and very warm.

Burgers were horrible. Overpriced for a burnt and hard as rock patties. Don’t come here to eat. Just go straight to the little river that they have and eat somewhere else. For that bad of a food and service yet i still gave good tips of which they truly don’t deserve! Never again I will come here even if i am starving to death. Not worth it! I have been to different places all over the states and outside the country and this by far has the worst food and service. The back ribs that one of my family members ordered was cold and nasty it was almost like they just put it in the microwave to heat up! If I could give 0 stars I would. One of the servers was eating with a family seated to a nearby table of which looked like his friends or family. So unprofessional . 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

We held our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner and welcome cocktail party at River Inn. The dinner was for about 60 people and the cocktail party was about 150 people. We started working with Breann at River Inn in March 2023 and the event was for September 2024. What can I say-This event was spectacular! Better than we had imagined! Breann was with us every step of the way, from the fantastic dinner menu, the cocktails and appetizers for the welcome party after the dinner, to the “to-go cookies and coffee” that everyone took when the event was over. Breann thought of everything! The food was delicious! A dinner for 60 and the pork chops, salmon, cheesy potatoes, etc., was dead on perfect. We were able to set up the outdoor tv for the bride and groom slide show, had a Cigar area, which was spectacular, and the setting couldn’t be better! The staff was top notch! Very attentive and was there for anything we needed. Besides Breann, who was so fantastic, we have to give a shout out to Sweet Daisy- Breann’s assistant, Zeke-The outstanding Cocktail-ologist that made our specialty cocktails the way we wanted them, Rafa and Katelyn-Best Bartenders EVER, Veronica and Lorena-who assisted us all and made everything happen weekend long. These folks and so many more were outstanding! We highly recommend River Inn for a vacation, but HIGHLY recommend for a wedding! BTW, the wedding ended up being here as well and it was over the top gorgeous! We had the whole resort to ourselves all weekend long! This It was a weekend that all will remember for a very long time!

I have no idea why some people give this place 1 stars. It’s such a nice place. I stayed here overnight, had 1 lunch and 1 breakfast. I biked in from Monterey area. - Room is nice. I stayed at the “crappy” side across the road. The room is spacious for even 2 bikes and 2 people. Windows are double-paneled. You can hear traffic but very muffled. I did bring earplugs in case. The mosquito activities are high in Big Sur, do your spray on arms and legs before sleeping. The room itself is nice too. No weird smell. Clean and neat. Not crappy at all. Again, no idea why some people described it as sad. - People say the porch overlooking HWY1 is sad. No. I love it. After a dawn hike, you can enjoy a snack/second dinner on the porch. It will be at night 7pm ish and the traffic would be significantly dying down. You end up with a big table, cool air, warm light. Chance are you will run into a neighbor doing the same. Then you can make a friend. The wobbling chair is another detail that this inn has that just adds so much to the experience. The porch also allows you to dry hand washed clothes. Overnight dries everything I put out. - Food is always large portions. I say this as a biker who biked 37 miles in. They are delicious as well! I ordered Fajitas and an omelette for my lunch and breakfast. - The fire in the restaurant is another nice touch that just elevates the experience so much that makes me want to come back to this Inn FOR SURE. - Chairs in the river, such a vibe. I enjoyed meeting people there. - For bikers. This is the perfect place! It’s the first stop in and the last stop out. I did bike 2 miles down after checking in to hike in the Pfeiffer Fall area, but that’s really a minor issue. If you double back out Big Sur, definitely rest up at this Inn for a meal before embark on journey again.

I came here to have a drink and to sit in the river. There was live music and the vibe was nice. Nothing too special, just a chill little place to hang out and relax for a while.
