Big Whiskey's American Restaurant & Bar Downtown

Uodated the next week: Had another great experience here. I ordered another salad...my favorite, the Strawberry Hill, and the kitchen was amazing!! The chef even came out to see if i enjoyed the salad. Such great people!! A favorite stop for sure. Original review: Great service throughout our visit. I also had an awesome salad, with some allowed modifications. The waitress got it right and the kitchen nailed it. I definitely recommend stopping here. They have a variety of items on the menu, something for everyone.

Horrible service. When we arrived, I had to ask a waitress to clean a table for us outside, all were empty but none of the tables had been cleared off from previous customers. We have now been here over 30 minutes and none of the tables outside were clean when we got here and still have not been cleaned. After 20 minutes of us ordering drinks, my wife went in and got them off the bar while the bartender smiled at her. Now after 40ish minutes, we are still waiting on a burger. Honestly, there are currently 6 people inside this venue. I’ve been a lot of places to eat and drink in Springfield and this is by far the worst ever. And then, when we finally got the food, the waitress said the fried circles in a bowl, outside the burger, were onions. They were fried jalapeños. Unreal!! I literally cannot believe this. And after the meal was finally brought to us, we had to ask for napkins and silverware. There are so many amazing eateries downtown, please do not waste a minute here.

When I say these tenders were BUSSIN’. I don’t know what kind of secret breading they use, but it is phenomenal. From the texture, to the flavor, to even the effort for presentation for takeout food. I was shocked the chicken was so juicy for being takeout as well. And the honey mustard is delicious. This is honestly better than Canes. 10/10 will order again and 10/10 will make my friends try.

There was a dead bug in my drink. The server was very kind and made me a new one. Then my food came and my plate came with dried food residue on it. Nothing on my plate matched the color so I know it wasn’t from my food. Cleanliness was an issue with my dining experience. My server was very kind about the whole situation.

Big Whiskey’s downtown is an awesome choice for good drinks, solid food, and great service. Olivia was our server who went out of her way to make sure all our needs were met, made us feel welcome and got us out on time to make sure we saw our show! We got the vegetable tortellini (DELICIOUS cheese filling), pork chops (cooked perfectly with a nice tangy bourbon sauce), the sirloin steak (such a thick cut!), calamari (awesome lemon aioli) and cauliflower wings. They also have the best fries. Liz, the manager, also made sure to ask how our night was, which made us feel like we really mattered. To top it off, they have lovely patio with a great view of the lively downtown scene. Can’t wait to come back!

My husband and I just flew into Springfield and stopped in for a drink , Caleb was our bartender and he was awesome! Super friendly, made great drinks, and honestly gave us some of the best service we’ve had at any restaurant in a very long time. We will definitely be returning and coming back because if it. Such a great welcome to town. Highly recommend!

The wings were delicious and so many for the price!! Our server was Olivia and she was incredible there was a big group of us and she was super accommodating and patient even though we had a lot of food to order. If you are in Springfield give this place a try and say hi to the manager Liz who was incredibly nice!

Food was good- service from the start needs work- lots of waiting- the beer was cold that’s a plus- also big plus dog friendly for our furry friend- you can tell this is a college town on a busy college street on a Saturday night

Fun date night location. Loud enough to drown out the other tables but still could talk to my wife. Had the honey stung burger, which was great. Wife's chicken and shrimp dish was a bit of a miss. Chicken had a slightly off flavor, but the shrimp was great. Server (Dawson I think) took our complete order without writing anything down and nailed it. If you're looking for a place to grab some food before a date night downtown, this is a great location.

Worse place ever! Not Organization! Waited 45 minutes in line to eat when we finally were the next to be seated at 630 pm. We were told kitchen was not taking no more orders. Sign at door said wait to be seated, there was no one doing that at all. No bar tender with full bar. Not a good place!!

I've been a big fan Big Whiskey (downtown Springfield) since it opened. My office is just around the corner and honestly I used to eat lunch there 3 or 4 times a week, but something has happened at the downtown location. A lot of the old crew is gone and the new folks are nice but seem to need leadership. Even when they're not busy you can wait 10 minutes to get someone to take your order. On a recent visit (Sept 21, 2023) total wait time from seating to food arrival was 48 minutes and there were only about 5 tables with guests. When food arrived some food had obviously been under a heat lap for an extended period of time. Sadly, Big Whiskey has become our last choice downtown. It has been going downhill and there seems to be no rebound coming.

Drinks over food: that's my take away. We went here with a few college kids and a few moms for a Saturday morning brunch. The boys and a few moms were ready for their bottomless mimosas. Some of us including me we're ready just to eat without the cocktails. Service: The kitchen staff was definitely off this day. I probably took about 45 minutes to an hour to get some chicken tenders. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but they screwed up despite a few reminders from the server. I got a buffalo chicken salad and that probably took about 40 minutes. Somebody else's entrée came out on time. I know the sites that can sue between a server in the kitchen, so I don't blame the server for this because he can only do so much when the kitchen staff isn't doing their part. He apologized a few times and discounted the food.. The taste of the food and chart was decent. It definitely wasn't top-notch but it was good enough and I would still go there again for the photo but it was not my favorite. Four stars. The server : he was amazing! Keep in mind we had some college kids trying to get their bottomless mimosas. Unfortunately for him the restaurant has a policy that they aren't allowed to do pitchers and he had to repeatedly bring little carafes to refill their glasses each time. The carafes only held one drink worth for each person. So by the time he brought it over, the drink was gone pretty quickly because these are college kids trying to get tie one on. I felt bad for the guy because he was hustling really hard to make sure he could keep up with them. He was super friendly about it and I made sure to tip him Well above what I normally do and taught my son that this is what you do when people are hustling for you. I told my son that you don't look at the total of the bill, but you need to acknowledge that this guy is working hard to repeatedly Phil glasses despite the policy his first to follow there. . My son took note. Life lessons. :). In short, the service made this place great. The bottomless mimosas drew the crowd in and it was a great experience. The kitchen staff may have been lacking yesterday and the food was good. Nothing outstanding but good enough.

Good price to grab a late night bar food in downtown Springfield. Always an exciting time.

Waited 30 min to get waited on another 15 to get our drinks appetizer rather one came in 15 min 30 min later after asking a passing waitress to check on the chips and dip we got our chips, still waiting on our meals it's been 60 minutes now ok 80 we have 3 out of 6 I need not finish last time here for us

Very old school feel. (In fact, it reminds me of the Ohio Club in Hot Springs.) Service was pretty good. It is a bar, btw. This particular location has a very college bar vibe in fact. The food was more than serviceable bar food. (I had the club which was better than average.) The Old Fashioned was a little sweet but good. Be aware it's not a traditional cocktail. (FYI: Supposedly one is coming to Tulsa!)

Greta ribs, big portions nice service it was a tad loud but I liked anyway I definitely want to go back.

Server (manager) seemed to have an attitude. Slow service. Food came out slow. Ordered the lemon pepper chicken. That was good however the rice pilaf kinda sucked. It was also freezing cold inside the restaurant

I ordered the 6 ounce sirloin steak medium well done. The first attempt at cooking this meal was a little bit off. The steak was too rare and the loaded potatoes were cold. However, the staff quickly resolved this issue by replacing my meal. The second attempt at eating my meal was fantastic. The meat was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were steamy hot and the Broccoli was perfect! I enjoyed my meal overall!

Great food, the wings were spot on. The service was perfect. I enjoyed the feel of place, it was a great place to hang with friends.

As opposed the Civil Kitchen this place has an Awesome staff, great service and better food and drinks than Civil Kitchen.

Definitely one of the most popular bars in town, but with that being said, this is a college bar. This is the place to go when looking to hang out with friends and eat cheap bar food. Big Whiskey's has many locations all around Springfield, but I decided to visit the downtown location. They have a large menu similar to any other pub you would find in the midwest. I ended up ordering the Fried Pickles and Big W's Pretzel Bites for appetizers and the Santa Fe Veggie Wrapper for my entree. The food wasn't great, but the service was exceptional for a college bar. The restaurant was very clearly understaffed, but our server made sure to still give us the best service! I felt bad as he was running around trying to keep up with all of the tables. Unfortunately, our food took a very long time to come out (around 45 minutes when it wasn't very busy), but again, the restaurant was understaffed so I understood and placed no blame on the server.

I've been here twice with my friends for lunch and it's been good both times. I don't have any complaints on cleanliness or the food. The first time I came I had their BBQ bacon burger with sweet potato fries which were amazing. I had this same burger at the Republic location and it was really dry there. The second time was a lunch pick up and I had their hot wings and I think the Jamaican wings and it was amazing. I also ordered the trio dip with chips and they gave me a lot. The service was just okay the first time I went. It wasn't that busy either. We needed to get in and get out cus we had to go back to class so the sense of urgency wasn't really there. However, I recommend this location because so far this Big Whiskeys has been the best.

I used to come here all the time but the last couple of times it has been the worst service I've ever received. Our drinks took 30 minutes to come out and we're melted. Our orders were completely wrong. We had to ask four times for our check and never received it. We honestly were not upset at first but after being ignored after asking the forth time for a reciept in a non crowded restaurant, it gets pretty frustrating. We were there for almost three hours. It took an hour and a half to get food and waited an hour and a half to get a check we never got. We ended up just leaving cash and getting out of there.

Service was very good. Buffalo chicken dip and fries were also very good. Quick drinks as well. Lettuce on salad was old but besides that the chicken was great and so were the strawberries.

Was lucky to be in town from CA & visit Big Whiskeys. After hearing much praise from my cousins, upon arrival I was disappointed in the poor customer service brought from John. Greeted us very rudely and absolutely refused for us to be seated inside, which was fine considering the social distancing rules, but he did not have to approach our group of 5 in that manner. We arrived maybe 9:50ish, kitchen closes at 10 and Big Whiskeys overall closes at midnight on this particular day (Monday). All John had to say was, here's a menu, look over it and maybe wait to the side until a table opens up and becomes available. But none of that! Very poor, not a fan. Fortunately, we ran into another server Brooke, who was SO great & one of the actual frickin chefs Heaven, who was Amazing! They both worked together to make our visit a bit better and actually took their time to be of service and help instead of yelling at us that we can't enter. Coming from a big city, I always appreciate GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE & I'm big on communication. So thank you Brooke & Heaven for saving my FIRST time experience at Big Whiskeys and doing all that you can to make it great. Now, THE FOOD was bomb!!! My favorite for sure were the Thai chili wings! Crisp on the outside and tender meat inside with the right amount of sauce for the wings. The BBQ ribs were so tender they fell right off the bone, SO GOOD!!!! The steak was juicy and tender and was so easy for me to cut. Aside from rude John, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Big whiskeys bc of the food. First time experiences are EVERYTHING. Two stars for my first time here bc I was NOT a fan of the "welcome" when we first stepped foot in the door.

Stopped by for a late night dinner and a brew. Great experience, lively atmosphere, and TREMENDOUS BBQ Buffalo wings. Great spot.

Had the BW bacon cheeseburger with ranch. It was good. Meat was dry and not flavorful. The fries were the bright spot of the meal. Crispy and well seasoned. The burgers could take a lesson from them. The bacon was as unflattering as anything I have had, I LOVE bacon, but I tried several pieces and there was zero flavor!! Not sure what they did, but might change the bacon brand. The service was good. There were 3 other tables and he was pretty responsive. I do appreciate that they are doing service under trying circumstances, but I always try the burger before steak and if this burger is an indicator, I am concerned about the flavor and tenderness of a steak.

Please take the moniker Sports Bar off of the description. It is anything but. Me, my wife and sister in law went there to watch two marquis CFB games. Had to ask several times to change a tv that wasn't even showing sports to one of the games and then 10 minutes later the manager tried changing off the game I requested. Not a sports bar atmosphere at all! We left a half time with a $110 bill for weak cocktails and warm beer. Food was decent and our server was a nice enough young gentleman.

What is there not to love about Big Whiskey's? They have great specials, awesome shareable food and delicious drinks! Plus their patios are perfect for nice weather & their selection of screens is perfect for sports! DRINKS Literally everything is great. Their Bloody Mary's are sweeter than most so ask for if spicy! They normally have a decent beer selection! APPS #1 Must Order - Buffalo Chicken Dip. Literally the best! Southwestern Egg Rolls are pretty awesome too! Fries - they have some of the best fries in town. SALADS Pretty much all of them are tasty! Nothing special but good for a sports bar! MEALS Their salmon is delicious! Burgers are also A+!

So good , we had it twice in one weekend. Had an excellent 1st visit. 2nd visit, they were having staffing issues and there was a big delay in getting food, but the waitress was accommodating. Tried fried pickles, triple dip, pretzels sticks, Cajun green beans, and chicken bacon ranch fries, all great! BBQ chicken, bbq pork chops, Ruben, Turkey melt, queso chicken wrap, Buffalo chicken wrap, brunch burgers, and regular burger, all great too! Everything was fresh and hot.

I'm not a big fan of Buffalo wings (Most places serve them undercooked.) But here they're cooked and sauced just right I think they've got me hooked! Service was great, friendly and fast, They'll bring your ice cold beer. I'll definitely be a returning customer Whenever I am near.

Unfortunately, this place is mediocrity in restaurant format. Got a burger, it tasted decent; but that's the end of the praise. Barely a 3/8ths pound for 13 bucks, and no side. The whole thing looked like it had been hastily assembled from prefabricated components. Got a standard drink; seemed normal until I saw it cost me 3 and a half bucks. Sticky floors, clearly new and somewhat inattentive wait staff (not just mine, everyone's), and topped with a thick gooey layer of corporately repackaged "atmosphere" that I could care less for. I would avoid this one, if I were you.

I'd love to say go here, but food has been mey both times we tried it. Ordered their special almond encrusted chicken salad tonight. Chicken was cold, grayish color and clearly old. Sad..cause they have a nice vibe and location downtown.

Appetizers and drinks are great! Service from my experience wasn't the greatest - our waiter didn't refill our drinks nor was it easy to get his attention. I understand being understaffed but 30 mins for drinks and appetizers out at different times? Not the best way to enjoy. I will be back, however because I do love the soft pretzels and Buffalo dip!!

My very first experience with this restaurant. I ordered delivery but anything that could go wrong did go wrong. They get a 3 star only because the manager refunded my cost for the meals. The actual service and food was horrible. The food was delivered in two hours and had sat that long.

I really like the vibe of this place. The servers were really friendly and the atmosphere was nice to go have a beer or two. We sat outside on the porch but when I went inside later on, I saw that they also have an upstairs for additional seating. The only reason I give this place 4 not 5 stars is the fact that it does not serve any pitchers which is ridiculous in my opinion. If you're out with 2 other friends and y'all want the same beer, you'll have to get glasses separately instead of sharing a pitcher.

Such an amazing business!! During this stay at home I've been ordering quite a bit from them. DoorDash messes up and forgot about item I called BW and they sent one of their workers to my house with it along with complimentary chips and salsa + a brownie apologizing for the mix up. That's 5 star customer service!!! Check them out and don't forget to try to buffalo chicken dip.

Awful don't eat here. Service is terrible and the prep time was way too long. When I asked about it she seemed unapologetic and insincere.

I've had two very different experiences with Big Whiskey's, which makes it hard to decide exactly how to rate them. On the one hand, the in-bar experience was kind of gross and further colored by a nearby table of loudly obnoxious dude-bros. On the flip side, I've had some genuinely delicious takeout that went a long way toward softening my opinion of this place's culinary aspirations. My intuition tells me that knowing what to order plays a major role in the overall experience here. Every time I've had the garlic parmesan chicken, which comes with a side of veggies and rice, it's been fantastic. On the aforementioned dude-bro visit, a friend and I partook of the wings - and lived to regret it later. All of my visits have involved great service, so overall it's hard to complain - and, at the end of the day, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't come back.

This was the worst place I ever been. I have never been so disrespected. I am a Africa American traveling business guy. I came here to this restaurant because of the menu selections. I came into the restaurant and no one did not notice me or even looked my way. I sat there for 30 minutes watching other (white) people get served and recognized. This is the most racist place I ever been. I will never go back to this place and I hope this post get noticed.

This is just your standard bar and grill same foods you would expect same quality and same service nothing exceptional but nothing disappointing either. We started with the nachos and they were fantastic and filling. Within our party we had the mushroom and onion smothered steak along with the fish and chips and the Philly cheesesteak. Nothing really stood out or was amazing it was just OK. But that's what we paid as well I didn't feel like we got ripped off. Our server wasn't very friendly however the woman that brought our food was exceptionally friendly. I think this is definitely more of a drinks appetizers and watch the game place than an actual dinner restaurant. Ambience was very alive and energetic.

Big whiskeys is my favorite place to get happy hour! Their appetizer selection is awesome and the ambiance is perfect to go after work after school with a group of friends. All of the appetizers are $5, and beers on tap are $2 off between 4-6. My favorite appetizers are the buffalo chicken dip and the sliders (you get 5 in an order!). Our server was great, and super attentive. If you are going with a larger group for happy hour, it's good to go a little early to make sure you'll have a enough room, that place can get packed!

Some of the time I go to whiskeys and it goes smoothly but lately more times than not, it takes over an hour to get a beer and more than an hour and half before anyone gets an appetizer. Spend 2 1/2 hours there got 1 drink and 1 app.

Flat beer, cold queso, cold buff dip, stale chips, mediocre wings. Only reason it's 2 stars is the waitress was very friendly and professional. I'll never be back here

Bar tender was very friendly and did a great job! Service was Great. The Nachos were Terrible, they should start over and learn a real nacho. Two thumbs down

Went there on a "route 66" motorcycle fest. Can't complain about service; friendly, prompt and super welcoming. We ordered wings and sliders, which were awesome. However, we asked for the hottest sauce and I was disappointed; I've been a fan of hot ones for years and having tried their hottest sauces, this didn't even compare. Still, good spot to hang out, have a beer and enjoy the downtown night life

Food was nothing spectacular and the service lacked a little more. We started ordering a new drink when we were half empty. The place did not seem that busy.

Based on the Guinness is this review not impressed I am afraid but the atmosphere is great did not eat so cannot comment on the food

Outdoor, dog friendly patio right downtown. Outdoor tv and speakers were on the fritz for Stanley Cup and were loud, then nothing, then loud then nothing again. Patrons were sketchy and drama filled the environment making the experience not quite pleasant. Thai wings were good. Jerk was a mere ok. Cajun Chicken Alfredo was also ok.

We love Big Whiskey's and it's one of our favorite lunch and dinner spots. The triple dip, and chicken wraps are some of our favorite menu items. Also shout out to our waiter Easton tonight, he was awesome!

This is a really great place to eat. The popcorn is addictive. I wanted to stop by again last night and just ask for some to-go popcorn.

The worst $50 ever spent! Ordered the Drunkennpork chops, strawberry salad, and milk shake. All Terrible! Even the milkshake wasn't sweet and left horrible after taste. I threw it all away and ate a bag of chips instead. What a waste!

The waiter was horrible. They were not busy - yes we had a big table - again, not busy!! we had to ask for silverware, he got several of our orders wrong or forgot something!! They were going to charge an 18% gratuity but I got that taken off of our bill which we had to ask for and for boxes too!!! Never again!!

Ate here today and ordered the steak w/ mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. It tasted like they didn't season it at all. Additionally, when I went to re-heat the leftovers tonight, I realized the other half of the steak didn't look as if they had cooked it at all. (I ordered it medium). I will NEVER order a steak here again. I am contemplating not coming back to eat here as well. Thoroughly disappointed and disgusted.

Great food and outstanding service from our waitress Taitum. I recommend the appetizers! Boom boom shrimp and buffalo wontons are delicious.

This review is for our visit last night, 1-18-16. We have been to this location several times over the years, however it has been a few years since our last visit. The location is nice, and well located in downtown Springfield with free parking less than a block away. We arrived just after 5 pm. It was my daughter's 21st birthday and she wanted to spend it with family eating dinner at BW. All went pretty well sitting our party of 9 promptly. We had called ahead and they had tables pushed together and where ready for us. We ordered our first round of drinks and they came a bit slower than expected considering we where only one of four groups in the location. Our server did a great job and was very patient with us as we ordered apps but then took a bit to order dinner. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, one of the nightly specials. The pretzel bun and pork tasted good, however there was barely a quarter of an inch of meat on the sandwich. Another member of the group had the same sandwich, with a similar amount of meat. My father order the fish and chips and said it was very good. The two stars comes for four reasons: First the menu says that drinks are half price during happy hour from 4-6. They charged us $3 per Mich Ultra as a happy hour price. Guinness drafts were $2.70 during happy hour. Secondly, two guys from the kitchen staff kept coming out to talk to the bartender and one of the severs. On their second trip out, in the middle of the restaurant, they pulled their shirts up to give each other a bare chested bump. Thirdly, on our drink reorder during dinner, I had to go find our server as the drinks never arrived. She apologized and said she entered them, but the bartender had gone outside for a while. I'm not sure why the only bartender working at that time, would go on smoke break during happy hour at 5:40 pm. Lastly, the poor execution on the bbq sandwich. Additionally, my son order a Mother's wheat beer, it was listed correctly on the ticket, however he was served a different Mother's beer. He noticed half way through the beer, that it had expired on 12-23-15. Maybe it was just because it was a Monday, in January. Let's hope anyway. I'm afraid after reading other reviews, that they have a management issue at this location. If you want BW, I would try a different location in the city.

Granted it was insanely busy, but the worst experience I have had in a restaurant. We waited an hour and half for our food. The management allowed one person to drink until he was puking as he exited, took staff 20 minutes before they started to clean it up. The fries where delicious, however my philly steak and cheese was served without cheese. When I was finally able to get the servers attention, he offered to take a dollar off my bill, at this point I was so hungry I agreed, and had to remind the waiter after he brought my bill. I'll stick with the Big Whiskeys in Ozark from now on.
