Yelp
I am giving the bar/restaurant 4 stars, but not for the food. Service was good, ambiance is a typical South St Louis neighborhood bar, but as a plus the men's room appears to have been torn out, totally cleaned up and renovated. I only know the ownership slightly but am aware that one of the brothers passed away at a young age (I'm 67 so compared to me anyway) and the family has kept the restaurant/bar going. I've previously reviewed this bar for pizza, today I had the meatloaf special. It was 3 stars max. Food was not hot, it was warmish, but it went cool very quickly (my guess is the plates aren't kept warmed). The potatoes were the real thing but I barely nibbled on them. The reason, the gravy had an interesting flavor and went all over the potatoes and liberally on the meat loaf. I must be from a different era, the other meatloaf meals I've had, or prepared, came with brown gravy on the side or just on the potatoes and a tomato based meat sauce, if any, on the meat. I did not know the ground beef would come out with gravy on it, had I known that I would have told them bring it without the gravy. The portions were huge for a lunch, so as expected with lemonade and a tip it was $20. Lastly, corn was included and on the side but I wouldn't have served corn like that for a dinner at home. It looked like dried out canned corn like my mom pushed on us in the 60's, I couldn't even taste it. For a place to watch a sporting event, the drinks have always been fine, the bartenders nice even when busy, the apps are good and if people around you are getting pizza and it looks and smells good then I'd just stick with pizza.
