Gordon Ramsay To “Rescue” New Orleans’ Trolley Stop Cafe in Tonight’s Show Premiere | Eater New Orleans

"An iconic New Orleans greasy spoon on St. Charles Avenue, the Trolley Stop Cafe is the focus of Wednesday’s premiere of Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back (airing at 7 p.m. on Fox), where Ramsay attempts to rescue the troubled restaurant in 24 hours. Filming took place earlier this fall; mid-October posts on the Trolley Stop’s Facebook page said it would be closed for renovations, was overhauling its menu, and retraining staff. In a reply to a customer’s complaint about the smaller menu the Trolley Stop posted that it had been “months away from having to close our doors forever,” that its old menu of 96 items produced an “obscene” amount of waste, and that it had to “take drastic measures in order to stay open.”" - Clair Lorell

We happened into this cafe as we were walking through St Charles. It looked very popular with bike riders that were traversing the Katy Trail. In addition to hot coffee, bike racks and outside seating, they had bike rentals and bike accessories for sale inside. Interesting cafe, but just what we needed on a fall afternoon.

Google
The Bike Stop Cafe offers great food and friendly service. We had breakfast and coffee before heading back on the road. We sat inside because of the heat but the patio looked nice too. They offer bike rentals and shuttle service for Katy Trail riders. I will definitely be back to the Bike Stop Cafe!

Who knew Aunt Jo was an influencer? She led me straight to Bike Stop Cafe in Saint Charles, it’s a bike trail oracle. The Katy Trail literally runs past it. I guess everyone knew this place existed but me. You can rent a bike, fix a flat, take a shuttle, send your luggage off on its own solo adventure (luggage transfer), but, of course, I came for the food. Specifically, the Greek Goddess wrap. Pesto, you perfect little green sauce, never stop being you. Honestly, I just keep accidentally finding awesome spots in St. Louis like I’m on a scavenger hunt I didn’t know I was playing. Thanks Aunt Jo. You win this round.

The food is great. It can take awhile because they get pretty busy but I do enjoy it. The atmosphere inside and out is cozy and usually the service is good. However, I’m so livid. The girl got my name wrong, not a big deal. Except when they were calling for the order I had no idea it was me they were calling since the name wasn’t even close to mine. And it was on a plate. I had asked for my food to go. Well at some point the woman calls out the specifics of my order and I say could that be mine? She was so mad. Even though I was the one waiting for over thirty minutes from a mistake on their end. SHE was mad at ME. And she told me how to do better next time. I’ll never go back again. I’m nice and I’m understanding, she came at me hot. I’ve worked in restaurants for over ten years. I’ve managed not to talk to anyone like that and so should she.

Google
The cafe was great, it has delicious food and coffee. However, when we went to rent bikes we were quizzed on our bike knowledge (“do you know which brake to use?”) and my wife was given a mixte bike to start without being asked what she preferred. We have been riding for 30+ years and are seasoned bikepackers who were just visiting from out of town! It would have been more helpful to ask us how experienced we were/what we wanted. The brakes were not adjusted properly and bikes could have used some maintenance. It is very helpful to be able to rent bikes here, though.

Google
I had a little trouble getting in touch with them prior to my rental but as soon as I arrived in-person everything went smoothly! It took less than five minutes after entering to get a bike and the gravel/sport bike I got was in excellent condition and even had a little pouch for phone/snacks. Rode for forty miles with no issues. I highly recommend this business!

Google
Lovely café for a quick drink or bite to take a break from your bike ride. It has a nice interior with few bike accessories as well as lovely outside seatings. The food is fresh and yummy.

Google
This place is perfect when the weather is nice outside, and you want a chill spot to relax on a patio. I love that there are plenty of tables and outdoor umbrellas, and large trees surround the area, making it extra cozy. The interior is lively with wall decorations, and there's a bike shop next door with accessories for you and your bike. Regarding food, there are various options, including sandwiches and coffee. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting St. Charles :)

Yelp
(MARCH 2025) Wow, haven't been here since 2017!! Still great service and great food! I was meeting up with a friend for a Saturday ride on the Katy Trail. He was able to get a tube for my bike while I ordered my favorite: Jodi's Famous Peanut Butter Balls! They sell out QUICK but thankfully there were still some left. I also needed energy so I ordered a canned Bob Ross Energy drink. Yes, BOB ROSS. I was all set for my ride and killed two birds with one stone in one visit!

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop off of the Main Street. The two employees working were super kind. I have everything from Hot pickles, soups, which is so cool, brownies, biscuits, bread, alcohol, alcoholic beverages everything you could think of plus more! Highly recommend this location if you're on Main Street and stopping to get a drink, you will not be disappointed

Yelp
Bike Stop Cafe is a great place if you have a mix of vegans and carnivores in your group. They have sandwiches or salads for everyone. Small dining area inside or eat out on the patio. I got the plant based burger with Billy Goat Chips. Pretty yummy! Order at the counter, however, they bring your food to your table.

Yelp
Walked over to the Bike Shop Cafe and ordered their get 2. Decided on their chicken and rice soup and their Klondike Sandwich. I loved both items and will be back for more of the soup! The service was great and loved the options for seating inside and outside. I decided to sit inside to read and eat.

Yelp
We used their shuttle service this morning to get back to Clinton. Easy to set up, all very smooth and professional. The cafe food looked great but I only had time to grab coffee (which was good and served with a smile!)

Yelp
We stopped for midafternoon coffee while strolling Main Street. It was my husband's 75th birthday, and it appealed to him as a former cyclist. Apparently current cyclists like it too - there were a lot of bikes parked on the patio. The coffee area is dark and small (it's also a bike sales and repair shop), and they can't do blended drinks, but our hot latte, iced caramel-chocolate turtle latte, and "power cookie" were all perfect. (Top - single shots of caramel and chocolate were plenty instead of of the usual two).) It was a beautiful, balmy, mid-September day, so the patio overlooking the river was an ideal spot to hang out for a while.

Yelp
Cute lunch spot in St. Charles but unfortunately sandwiches left us underwhelmed and I do not recommend. Was busy on a Saturday around noon with outdoor seating area viewing the Mississippi. The counter discouraged us from ordering food by giving us a bogus wait estimate but the sandwiches came out in no time. No frills. The ingredients were good especially the fresh bread and lettuce. Middling-quality turkey but the real issue was that a sandwich has only a tiny thin slice of meat so the proportions don't work. It would be a very simple fix, I would recommend double the meat on half the sandwich size for overall 4x more turkey. This was both types of sandwiches we ordered.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat. The potato leek soup was out of this world. I love the cinnamon roll too! Great locally owned business right along the Katy trail! The staff is so friendly and they have stuff for sale so you can get your Xmas shopping done too!
google avatar

Yelp
Great stop along Main Street and the Katy Trail in St. Charles!! Refreshing iced tea ( with refills!), tasty sandwiches to quench your hunger after a bike ride/walk, and beautiful outdoor seating area! Owner is frequently present to make sure things are operating smoothly! Decorated with cyclists in mind! (You can even rent bikes here!) Enjoyable for all!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in on a lazy Sunday for a quick lunch. I got the chicken salad sandwich and my husband got a breakfast sandwich. You order your food and drinks at the counter then they bring your food and drinks to you. There is some indoor seating and outdoor seating. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious! My husband also really liked his breakfast sandwich. I really liked the casual atmosphere of the place.

Kate L.

Yelp
It's a good fun spot but some pieces aren't worth it. Definitely a place to try for the memories though!
google avatar

Yelp
Follow through with customers requests. They failed to re-check a flat repair. I ended up with another flat!

Yelp
Five star coffee and bike service. used their shuttle services and they were outstandin.

Yelp
Gotta say I was extremely underwhelmed by the quality of the food received. One would presume that a breakfast wraps contents would be cooked and warm. The vegetables were raw chopped not cooked at all (onions, mushrooms and tomato) and the ham pieces (cut up lunch meat) were all cold, cheese was barely melted mostly just from the panini press. Although the outside area to eat is nice, the price and quality of what was received today is not enough to bring me back. Disappointed to say the least.

Yelp
You might be familiar with Bike Stop Cafe as a great place to rent a bike to take on the Katy Trail but did you know they also serve a really great breakfast and lunch menu? Or that their desserts - cookies, cupcakes and such - are also something special? So, so good! I got the Tour of Italy on impulse and it was melty, garlicky and just something I really wouldn't have thought to make for myself. And where do they get that sourdough? So good! Just from start to finish something you will love.

Yelp
Pretty good breakfast burrito! Nice service, cute atmosphere. Plus the area around it is great. RECOMMENDED!

Yelp
Came in for coffee and a light Breakfast. The 6 of us all ate something different and all was good. Had a wonderful special coffee too. There were more tables outside but it was a bit chilly. Just a few tables inside. Staff was very nice too

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Great location and vibe, but overpriced for the quality in my opinion. Took almost 20 minutes to get food when we were the only ones there

Yelp
A small place with a lot of heart! Whether taking a break riding the Katy Trail or strolling the streets of Saint Charles The Bike Stop Cafe has a lot to offer! They have a wonderful outside seating area with a variety of tables, shaded by large trees and umbrellas. They serve a variety of coffees, lattes, smoothies, teas, baked goods, sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps and breakfast all day, among a variety of other choices! Food was fresh and a perfect portion. I had the Greek Goddess: Eggs, feta, red onion, tomato, avocado & organic spinach. Served with a side of pesto on a wheat wrap. Delicious! My husband and daughter had the Abbey: Mozzarella and turkey on house-baked sourdough grilled to melt. Both said it was very good with high marks for the bread. We also enjoyed unlimited refills for their blackberry, raspberry or strawberry lemonade!! Don't miss the cute place while in Saint Charles!
google avatar

Ali L.

Yelp
I ordered the pretzel bites. They came with a side of beer cheese and celery and I requested mustard as well. The only complaint I have is that I wish I had more cheese dip! Service was quick and the staff were very friendly. Went for a quick snack and it hit the spot! It doesn't have a lot of indoor seating so it can fill up quickly, but it is patio season so you should enjoy the outdoor seating as well! It's a great spot to visit because it's in the historic area of Saint Charles so you can visit other shops before and after within walking distance.

Yelp
Such a lovely spot on Main Street! I always love coming here because of the wide variety of food on the menu with several vegetarian and vegan options! The food does always feel like it comes out a little slower than I anticipate, but I'm sure that's just because I'm so excited for what I ordered! Absolutely a spot I will keep coming back to!
google avatar

Savannah K.

Yelp
Bike Stop a cute stop on Main Street. Perfect place to lock up your bike and grab breakfast/lunch and a coffee. Tons of menu options - all always look delicious, it's tough to choose what I want. Primarily outdoor seating but some inside. There is a bike shop attached if you need any bike gear or fixes. Not always the fastest service but great if your legs are tired and you need a little rest from your ride :)
google avatar

Yelp
Bike Shop Cafe has everything for a nice rental and ride. E-Bike was so fun and so easy to use. They had many bikes to rent as well as kid carriers. Shop is right on the trail at Frontier Park in St Charles MO. We did a casual ride because I had not ridden a bike in a long time. Bike was plenty speedy for me and the food was yummy after the ride. Want to get back on a bike? Go see Bike Shop Cafe. They do shuttles for the Katy Trail as well.
google avatar

Elisa T.

Yelp
Such a fun place! I love the idea of combining food and drinks and bike service. They are also so open to hosting fun events like the native plant swap they did last month. It's a great place to stop when you're riding the Katy Trail or if you live in the neighborhood :-)
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
Went to Old St. Charles and bike stop cafe before a 20 mile ride on the Katy Trail. We each got a breakfast wrap and both were good! We also got a cup of chicken and wild rice soup that was incredible but we were a little deterred that a small cup of soup cost $7. After we finished up breakfast we rented bikes from the cafe. When we first went to rent no one was working the desk but the person working the food counter was able to help us out. We rented two hybrid bikes, and only had a minor issue with the bike seat along the ride that the mechanic said he would fix for future riders! Overall a great experience and one stop shop. The bikes were affordable and the staff were helpful!

Yelp
Food was great as was the service. The location was nice with lots of outdoor seating.
google avatar

Michele F.

Yelp
Outdoor seating. Great cafe. Food feels clean and healthy. No frills just good food. Nice staff. They have bike rentals. The chili was my favorite. It had a little kick to it. Thumbs up to the zucchini muffins.
google avatar

Heather N.

Yelp
Great vibe, good food, and a fun atmosphere. Food was a bit slow to cook once ordered so be sure to have time budgeted. If not in a hurry and ready to sit and enjoy delicious coffee with a friend this is a great St Charles stop!

Theresa C.

Yelp
The food was just okay. Breakfast burrito with way too much cheese. No sides come with the burrito. My husband had a chicken salad sandwich with very little chicken salad. My husband also had a bowl of soup. He had tea, I had coffee. Our bill was 50$. We were disappointed in the food and will not be going back.

Bj G.

Yelp
Food, atmosphere and service is always good. Everything we've tried we enjoy. People are friendly. Place appears clean, even the restroom. Adult & kid friendly. It's always my go to when we are in the area. Only thing that bugs me, I don't care for ranch, some of the sandwich's come with ranch - substituting their homemade rotel cost extra. 99% of the time they remember to omit the ranch - that's a biggie. Great place. Enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
This trip was my second visit. They have good local beers to chose from as well as wine and coffee. They also have food but if have yet to try it. The staff is friendly and they have lots of seating inside as well as outside seating with a view of the river. During the colder months they have a couple of fires going at the outdoor seating to help keep warm.
google avatar

Chrissy H.

Yelp
What happened to my favorite place by the river? I've been at least 3 times in the past few months. The coffee is always cold or out in the carafes and there is no dairy free option on the bar so you have to wait and most people don't. The sandwich I should have photographed bc they're mostly vegan so you'd think they would load it up with lettuce or tomatoes and after the long waits they're just almost empty. The place is always clean, they have a beautiful seating area and the people are really wonderful. I just need fresh hot coffee and if I need a good sandwich I'll stick to the breakfast burrito here because that was fire last time. I'll keep trying but the money is not worth it at the moment.
google avatar

Jonah M.

Yelp
I love this place! Its right off the Katy Trail which makes it the perfect stop on any bike trip or activity on the trail! It's also just a great lunch spot with coffee, boozy drinks, and pastries. We had a sandwich and coffee and zucchini muffins after a 50 mile bike ride. What is even better is that you can order online so it can be ready when you get there! They have an awesome patio and a cute inside. I think they also can fix bikes and have a ton of things for your bike if you need them- hence the "Bike Stop" in the name! Check it out!

Lindsay W.

Yelp
This is what I look for when I visit a historical area. Location was very accessible with good parking for even long bed dually pick up. Loved the ambiance of the old building. It was very quaint. In addition to inside seating, the patio seating was very inviting if it hadn't looked like it could rain. I had the Century breakfast wrap and my husband had the Green Goddess breakfast wrap. Both were excellent and plenty of food we could have shared one. Would consider the menu as healthy but attractive to someone who is usually more of a meat and potato girl. Servers were friendly and service was timely. Would definitely be a frequent visitor if I lived in area.
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
Excellent wraps!! Cozy atmosphere, Tony, Jodi and the staff were very helpful. We are new to biking the Katy trail, they told us where to park our car then they shuttled us with our bikes to Clinton! We are on the second day of our ride in Sedalia and having a blast! Highly recommend getting in touch with the Bike Stop if you're interested in doing the Katy.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect stop for lunch on our way to Denver CO. Great food coffee and ambience in old downtown St. Charles!
google avatar

Jennine C.

Yelp
Excellent place for lunch or a coffee! The best homemade Chicken and Wild Rice soup around. It is delicious. Thank you!
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Wonderful place in a positively great location. If you need a coffee or tea to sip on, or a light lunch or snack, you can enjoy these delights while sitting on the patio at BSC. Plenty of space, even on crowded weekends when all the Katy Trail cyclists are filling the many tables. A great bonus is that you can actually score some bike gear and accessories while you're here. Need an inner tube? Check! Need a quick tool for trail side repairs? Check! How about a bike rental because your bike sucks? Check! I love this place and the supremely welcoming staff. The menu also has a number of vegan and vegetarian options, so everyone can be happy.
google avatar

Hunter G.

Yelp
Great food and environment!! Employees are so friendly too! I recommend the big wheel sandwich!!
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
If you're considering a lengthy one-way Katy trail bike ride, I highly recommend Bike Stop's shuttle service, especially if you are part of a small group. It's a four-hour van ride from St. Charles to Clinton (or vice-versa), but the trip is strictly first-class, with well-appointed bike and gear hauling, at a price point that is well worth the service. Coordinating our departure time required a little back-and-forth, an understandable necessity given that other riders might be involved. In fact, we were joined by riders who were departing at both Jefferson City and Kansas City, which ended up being really nice, since the drive gave us the opportunity to share trail advice. And if you need a quick tune-up or a sandwich before the big ride, that can be arranged too.

Kathy F.

Yelp
Great food and fun location across from the Katy trail. Fast service and a fun atmosphere
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot. We rented bikes from here and had lunch prior to biking 10 miles. Convenient spot to do both.

Mary G.

Yelp
Great little place in Historic St Charles right off of Main St. I've had breakfast there many times and hv never been disappointed. You can enjoy your meal inside or outside. My dog loves it too.

Yelp
Great breakfast and Lattes! Super nice and friendly smiles. Relaxing! Nice view of the river and great for people watching!

Yelp
Lovely morning on Main Street St Charles. We enjoyed a great breakfast out on the patio.
google avatar

Yelp
We'd just completed our final miles on Katy Trail and had picked the Bike StopCafe as our terminus. I'll just say the the food, cold beer and staff were juuuust what needed after 200 miles on the bikes. Outside sitting in the sun made it even better.
google avatar

Yelp
Situated along the landing on the muddy MO, sandwiched between the Katy Trail and Main St. lies the wonderful, appropriately named Bike Stop Cafe. This area marks the unofficial start or finish of the Katy Trail (technically there are 13 miles to the east to a town called Machens for some reason), so rolling in here after starting at the western terminus some 250 miles ago was certainly refreshing. Not quite as refreshing as the four cups of coffee and back to back entrees that I put down though. I got a veggie sausage, parmesan, egg & cheese bagel and it was good. So good that I had to get back in line and order something similar, plus a muffin. We also used their services to be shuttled to the Kirkwood Amtrak from the finishing point and it was helpful ($80 for the trek). Really enjoyed this little spot, and it made a lasting impression of St. Charles for my first time through.
