Bill & Bob's Roast Beef

My wife and I experienced our first 3-way today, and what made it the best was Bill & Bob's juicy meat in our mouths. Probably the best roast beef sandwich I've had in the past few years. The fries were fresh and crisp, perfect for dipping in ice cream. The guys were very patient with our southern drawl and slow order. There are a few tables outside also with a great waterfront view. I was going to order more, but the big beef and fries left me perfectly full - we will be back!

Great roast beef served here!!! Bill & Bob's has been around since the inception of the North Shore's Roast Beef Sandwich phenomenon. Their excellent quality and flavor has never changed. The drive-thru service is fast and efficient. There is also an often overlooked dining room that's very nice if you don't want to take it to go. It's always service with a smile.

OMG I dream about the Super Beef & Pizza Roll non-stop. My friend from that area used to rave about them, and I was like geez, dude, it's just a roast beef sandwich (Im in NYC). And then, nearly 25 years ago, He got me one--and it rocked my world. I used to go to the one route #1 in Malden but, sadly, it is not there anymore. But this one's great--eat it in the car because you have a beautiful view of the bay (I think its the bay, I'm not a local). If you like Roady beef, you'll LOVE B&B!

Hy husband and I love beefs. Had to try Bill & Bobs. Overall decor, kind of plain. Parking lot not a great first impression. Tons of seagulls and pigeons. Inside clean. Guy behind the counter, very serious. Not friendly but not mean. Just very, lets get down to business type. Husband got a superbeef with sauce. I got a big beef with mayo and cheese. Superbeefs are usually too much meat so i cant finish. I could have gotten a super since the quantity of beef was low on the big beef compared to what i am used to. Quality was good though. Great flavor and texture. Although beef quantity was lower, so was the price. I got a small fry, beef and drink for $13, usually thats what I pay for sandwich alone. It was good, glad we tried it.

Went into this mom and Pop restaurant and very glad that I did stop in. The cashier was very nice and talked to me until my food was done. I felt very welcomed in this establishment. Love the fact that this was a local restaurant she suggested that I get the broccoli bites. They had Cheese and bacon inside of them. Glad she suggested them because, they were out of this world. I was very surprised that the chicken wings did not come in different flavors, but why fix some thing that is not broken. These chicken wings were so good, perfectly seasoned. I tried them without any condiments and they were very good steaming hot, because they were made to order. This is definitely a place to come out and try if you want some thing tasty and fast. Like that they stay open very late.

We had roast beef sandwiches of course. The whole restaurant is spotlessly clean and great service. Super tasty French fries.

This was my first time trying a roast beef sandwich in Massachusetts. First of all this place has a drive through which is super convenient. The parking lot overlooks the water if you so choose to eat in your car. The service was extremely fast. We got a roast beef sandwich with cheese and it was absolutely amazing. It did not taste “fast food” like in any way whatsoever and we cannot wait to come back.

Had the roast beef and some broccoli bites i crushed the Roast beef by the water it was Really good and great flavor I'd recommend Trying it. The bites were good also

I was told about the food by a coworker who grew up in the area. With how fast they had two orders ready to go was the best part of the service I could ask for. Mainly because we had to drive back to western mass. The food was perfect I had no idea about the history of the north shore beef and I look forward to going back for more. Maybe going inside for the ambience next time. 10/10 recommend

Late night beef in Salem? I asked how locals are order this and it sounded like a beef and cheddar. So good. Cheese and bbq sauce is the way. Hits the spot.

Pretty solid roast beef, a little pricey, but still good. I also got a hotdog which was nothing special, but I do love that you can add horseradish so that made it really nice! The lady at the drive-thru was also very nice and good service was had

One of the main reasons for their five-star rating is that they are open late. Second, in my book, being able to purchase fried chicken and fries somewhere other than Pop**** or K*C is top tier. I ordered my food using the drive-thru and went with the chicken wing basket. This consisted of six chicken wingettes fries and onion rings. I also ordered Buffalo chicken bites. They were super generous with condiments. I got bbq sauce, hot sauce and ketchup on the side. The food was hot, fresh and flavorful. I wish the onion rings were battered better. It looked like they ran out of batter. So I didn't eat the onion rings. But the chicken and fries were on point. I must admit, I ended up using the condiments I had at home because I didn't care for their homemade bbq sauce. Service was polite and speedy. Not sure of ambiance because I didn't go in but from what I could see from the drive thru window everything appeared appropriate. The chicken wing basket was less than $20 and I would definitely go here again.

Highly recommend the crabmeat seafood salad sandwich! It's the best! Only place I'll go for one.

Had never been to a late nite Massachusetts roast beef place before. The friendly patient server at the front talked us through everything. I ordered roast beef, she ordered Pastrami. The roast beef was good but the pastrami was really really good. Fries were crisp and well cooked. Looking forward to a return trip.

Gross. Is the meat precooked? I ordered a steak bomb sub and a jr beef, the bun on the beef was touching.. there was hardly annnyy beef at all and my order was ready in 3 minutes after ordering. The steak bomb was already cooked meat put into a roll. GROSS

Great food. The fries were great. The burgers were huge. Mine was really dry. I asked to sub mustard instead of mayo and it was barely any on it. Not the healthiest of course but it's open until 2am!!!

Been going here for a few years now and always get the roast beef sandwiches which are always great but today bought a large beef and I could have knocked out a seagull with the bread since it was so hard. Ate the beef off the bread and was ready to toss it to the hovering seagulls by my car but didn't want to get in trouble with the local animal control officer. Drove off still hungry. I'll try again another day.

I got a roast beef sandwich and honestly, I was disappointed. The sandwich lacked really any taste -- I found it bland and underwhelming after having higher expectations based off of reputations and reviews I read. The fries were hot and crunchy, but lacked salt (I like a little salt, not too much but enough to taste); I don't think they had any salt on them. I got takeout and it was quick, ~ 5 min from order to receiving order.

Foods not all that good and super disrespectful staff. Come here if you feel like being disrespected. I have given it a try multiple times and each time terrible service the food is a hit or miss for sure.

I called before I arrived and they told me I cannot order unless in your car. Don't waste your time

Love the food here it is spot on! Always my late night go to place. Super unfortunate that they say they are open till 2 am but actually are not. You would think the doors would be open but instead just the drive thru is open. a little misleading...

Between here, and Nicks in Beverly - My absolute must-visit, go-to places on the Northshore, when I return "home". They seem to have recently changed their fries (the oil used - I swear they used to use straight lard - I may be wrong, but...) the flavor is just not quite the same. Thus, the 4-stars instead of 5. Super-Beef with the onion-roll, still every bit as spectacular though as ALWAYS. Order take-out, bring it out to the back parking lot (over-looking Salem's "back" harbor) - share your fries with the gulls, and just well... that, (and here) to me - is "HOME". With Chicks in Gloucester no longer open/around anymore - so I could do this, but sit on the Boulevard instead - this, is my last remaining (day time anyway - Nicks for the night/hangover trip) Go-To. Worth the visit, always - every time!

Was in the Salem area, was looking for a good dog. I found it! The building is kinda old and scruffy but the dogs were great! Fries too! I liked that they had a drive thru-Didn't try the RB, although it must be a thing in Mass. i went back a second time and ate in the pkg lot and fed the over aggressive seagulls (which I'm sure ur not supposed too)

You just can't believe how bad this food is. Burnt onion rings. Ten for five dollars and I'll eat them for hours after I consumed them . The pastrami sandwich had no flavor other than the mustard and the roll was old . 15.24 for the two items and the seagulls out back of the dive wouldn't even eat the trash. Stay away from this POS . Wish I could have given it a minus ten stars. Sucks is to kind a description.

Look I'm not saving this place is 5 star dining like sponge bob but if you're hungry after the bar ... this place is not playin. Dogs, fried pickles, burgers and fries 10/10

Came here at 1 am hungry and this place did not let me down. First off ... there's a DRIVE thru here. How great is that? I have never known of a roast beef place with a drive thru. That was already a plus. Ordering was of course fast and efficient at This time of night being that it's not a busy hour. They are open till 2 am ! More of a plus. I got a hot dog and some waffle fries. The waffle fries were to die for. They are huge & crispy and had plenty for two. Will be returning!!

Once again, back in town and needed a "Roast Beef Sandwich". So back to Bill and Bob's of course. Super Beef with sauce and cheese and a Pizza Roll with the drive thru. Quick service and the usual awesome tasting Super Beef and wicked hot Pizza Roll. Parking is easy if you decide to enjoy the view of the bay behind the restaurant. Look forward to my next visit.

It's a classic beefery, but a beefery that's not living up to its own competitors. I drop by simply when it's beefing time and nothing else is open. Bad beefs are still good beefs. Kinda like pizza. Or warm beer.

the food is pretty greasy. i do like the spinach roll late night when nothing else is open. the hours are really solid. location is pretty good as well.

Deadass my grilled cheese was a 2 pancakes and a piece of cheese in the middle and homie got a pastrami sandwich that tasted like a porta potty but I'll be back

Just plain disappointing today ....super beef is way small compared to every other place on NS at $6.95.....tiny number of o rings.....beef well done, bun burned, cheese not melted .... just plain disappointing and I even tipped the drive through because not her fault food blows.....

Your experience really depends on why you go here. If the bars let out and you're faced and you want to just fill the pit in your stomach with some of the most heart-humping comfort food, Bill n Bob's will definitely do it for ya. They've got awesome roast beef, pizza rolls, cheese steak rolls, fried zucchini sticks, broccoli bites, shrimp roll, turkey sandwiches, and on and on, and on... you get the picture. Now, for those who are a little less blotto when you're going for a nice greasy food fix, here's a couple of cons: 1. They're always closing early. It's supposed to be open 'til 2am. In my book, 2am means 2am. Their clock is DEFINITELY set like 5-10 minutes fast so even when you're screaming down the street for a quick roast beef (which takes 20 seconds to make), you will often see the lights going off even though your car clock says 1:52. Some times it's as early as 15 minutes. Maybe that's ok with you; it isn't with me. 2. Trash all over the parking lot some nights. I get it. The people inside are really food servers, not janitors. But some nights, local yokels can't seem to make it to the barrels and dump their shit all over the parking lot. It generally doesn't bother drunk people looking to plow good food except for the following... 3. Trash and extra food attracts seagulls. If you enjoy seagull crap all over your car, or just getting chased and dive-bombed by seagulls if you dare to pull your car over and polish off some food, then this is the place for you. Trash, seagulls and early closings. All a part of the charm of Bill n Bobs. The workers are pretty cool; they've all been friendly and straightforward. It's just this kind of place isn't customer-centric, it's product-centric. In other words, their unspoke motto is, "Eat yer food and shut up."

My friend and I were there deciding what we wanted in the drive through, and they said to hurry up because there were people behind us. When we went up to the window, we asked why they asked us to hurry up & said that we were paying customers. This girl with glasses said, "fuck you bitch." I will be calling health and safety, because I saw her spit in our food.

So to get a real roast beef sandwich here you have to order an entirely other big beef and they add the roast beef and it costs about 14$. For a roast beef sandwich. Otherwise it's a thin veneer of roast beef on top of a lot of onions and lettuce. Was hoping this time I could pay some extra for a real super beef, but had to pay for two sandwiches to get one. One has to drive to Mike's in Lynn for the real thing, but unfortunately that is a real hike, and they close early so one is hostage to the Over-rated Bill and Bob's cash factory. Not sure why roast beef is so difficult on the North Shore, which is supposed to be a specialty region for this particular dish. Good luck on the South Shore. Or the North Shore for that matter. Are we supposed to go to Burger King?

So a couple of us stopped here after having some drinks at a local establishment in Salem. This place is open until 2am and it has a drive through (which is crucial). As a matter of fact it's one of the few roast beef shops I've seen to have a drive through besides Kelly's Roast Beef. Order was amazingly fast. Got a superbeef with sauce and cheese, and a pizza roll. This is an on par, high standard roast beef in the league of the Roast Beef sandwiches that is in the realm of North Shore cuisine. It is, I dare say, the standard that us north shore folks demand in our roast beef sandwiches. Yes, it was delicious. The pizza roll was a nice finish to the meal. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The dining area closes at night, so it is only drive through and take out. There's nothing like friends sharing a meal in the parking lot on a cool autumn night, it was nice just to hang out like that actually.

This place was a pleasant surprise. I got a big roast beef sandwich and it was pretty good. I got it plain, but did have to put a little salt on it. The bun was nice, a little chewy and toasted to perfection. The fries were perfectly good. Hot and crispy, just used ketchup. My husband got the super roast beef sandwich with sauce. He said there sauce tasted exactly like Arby sauce. He also asked to switch out fries for onion rings (we would have been fine to pay a little extra for an upgrade) and wad rolls the was no way to do that and we would have to just order it separately. We just ended up getting the fries as an additional order would have given us to much food. The roast beef is definitely good. Way better quality that Arbys, very tender and cooked perfectly. The only other downside is my Mountain Dew, which was supposed to be a fountain drink, tasted as if it came straight out of a 2 liter bottle. If we'r lived in the area though we would for sure try it again and try different things as they have a ton of food on their menu.

The roast beef was all diced up (like it was run through a food processor) more cooked then I like. They charge you for everything that you want on your sandwich. They taste was ok have had a lot better. Don't go out of your way to get the Roast beef sandwich.

Best roast beef sandwiches in the entire world!!! The sauce is sheer bliss, the roast beef tender and plentiful. French fries are delightful, crisp, flavorful, never greasy, always hot. Staff members are consistently friendly and well mannered.

Awesome!!! No wait! Food was fresh and so tasty!! Prices for the amount was not too shabby either! Definitely a go to type of place when hungry for good comforting munchies. Will try again!!! We had the steak bomb, roast beef with extra sauce, and chicken wings. I gave it 4 stars because even though the chicken wings were good they weren't great.

I had what they're known for, the roast beef, and it delivered. The ambiance is not what you're coming for but if you want a Northside RoastBeef sandwich this place delivers, fresh thin sliced rare roast beef piled high on an onion roll, I got mine with Horseradish sauce only. The fries were good too but I tip my Stetson to this place for a solid delivery of a local classic.

I got the roast beef and it was disgusting. The booths were sticky and the broccoli bite that I took one bite of and spit out actually made me feel sick. I don't think I will be going back here unless I'm desperate.

In town visiting family and my cousins wife recommended this location. So thrilled with her choice. The staff was friendly, restaurant clean, and food delicious. Look forward to returning on my next visit.

Oh Bill and Bob's how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee Super Beef and Pizza Rolls and Chicken Fillets My stomach can rejoice, when feeling hunger! For the ends are quite late (closing time is 2 am). I love thee to the end of every bite. Your service is great, and your workers are hilarious. I love thee freely, as everything you offer is delicious; I love thee purely, as your prices are reasonable. I love thee with a passion I love thee with a love I seemed to lose Since I have moved to the South Shore" Seriously.... Bill and Bob's is a must after a night of drinking over at O'Neill's, or as a quick lunch. I wish I could get a Super Beef, and a Pizza Roll right now... but we don't have places like this down on the South Shore. *sigh* Looks like its a trip to Salem this weekend!!!

What a bunch of bing bongs. Can't comprehend my English and take an appropriate order. One bing out of five bongs. I thought this was supposed to be a roast beef not a sloppy experience.

This place is Shelbyville quality all around - I ate there once and will never be back: The oil used here wouldn't be fit for Homer's grease collecting business (Season 10, Episode 1). The quality of food stuffs is even lower than the meat served by Lunch Lady Doris - "More testicles mean more iron!" (Season 5, Episode 19). The customer service is akin to that of Krusty Burger (Season 2, Episode 17). All in all, it's not America - it's not even Mexico (Season 9, Episode 22).

I purchased a discount card from the Salem high football team. Bill & bobs is one of the discounts listed on the card. When I attempted to use it the old guy working was a total jerk & said " I know nothing about this & refused to take it". I highly doubt the Salem high witches are selling fraudulent discount cards.

I want a vanilla shake, broccoli bites, french fries (and apparently a cardiac arrest) and it's 11:30 pm on a Monday. My boyfriend and I do a head nod, grab the dog for a car ride and to the drive thru of Bill and Bob's we go. Very nice service, wide selection of food, clean, and is open late. This is way better than any drive thru of McD's, Wendy's, etc... I am a fan.

I will say that I think Bill & Bob's is amazing. Everything is just perfect. Their chicken "fillets", fries, roast beefs, pizza rolls and broccoli bites are to die for. Plus, it's open til 2am. CON: I think it's a little too pricey.

Try to get there by 12:30 a.m. so that you don't get caught in the 1 a.m.-just-left-the-bar drive-through line. I'm partial to the mozzarella sticks, but chicken tenders and fries are also good.

I've been to this place hundreds of times over the years and I swear I can't remember one of them. Probably because it's one of those "last call" fast food joints that does the majority of it's business after the bars let out at 1:00am. I've woken up on more than one occasion with the remnants of a 3-way Super Beef on my chest and half a pizza roll on the floor. It serves it's purpose.

Each time I come to Salem from Burlington, Vermont to visit my construction project (about every two-weeks) these guys are my first and last stop. They are incredibly good sandwiches with lean flavorful roast beef that is properly seasoned. The beef is sliced so thin you can read the funny papers through it but the meat is still juicy. The buttered toasted buns are a great touch. A couple Juniors with BBQ sauce and mayo and I am good to go! The folks working there are friendly and very professional. I highly recommend them!

Far and away the best Bill and Bobs. There are 4 guys that have worked there forever. George, Chris, Danny, and skinny Chris. I think thats their names, I might have them wrong. They are all cool guys though, and they've got the job down to a science. I worked the window for a few months back in the day, and they don't screw around. I do though, so that didn't last too long. Expect fast and friendly service even when your drunk and its late. Its not too pricey, and the food is awesome, especially the Beef. Great nights include Bill and Bob's. 5 stars

Bill & Bob's is a North Shore institution, for drunks of all ages, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity. Why is it an institution? well for one it's open until 2am-ish to help you sop up the booze in your belly before you make your way home. And secondly they have a drive through. (Wait, it's an institution for drunks but has a drive through? Mhhmm) They also have the major drunken food groups: fried and roast beef. You can get deep fried stuff and shaved roast beef on toasted buns. I've had a larger variety of stuff at B&B over the years that I'd like to admit but everything is solidly decent. It's not great by any means, but decent enough. The roast beef on a toasted bun is good. The roast beef is bloody rare and soft, not a stringy bit to be seen and the buns are toasted crispy. Some of the condiments you get for free but if you'd like a slice of lettuce or tomato (as some sort of guilty nod to health because you are getting almost mooing cow on a toasted bun) you'll be charged 30 cents, each. Cheese is 55 cents. The fries are perfectly deep fried, usually in oil that is just a tad too old and thus strong. Eat 'em hot otherwise you'll taste the oil. The customer service is crappy. You have to also consider that these guys have to deal with drunks all night and day, so when you roll up with 100 questions you get treated like the drunk who can't remember the order. If you want good service you can go somewhere else because you are aren't going to get it here. Also don't go in, when you leave you smell just like a fryolator, and likely booze. The next time you are hankering for rare roast beef B&B's isn't a bad choice, so have your designated driver head over.

SUPAH BEEF!!! Killer *killer* roast beef sammiches with great service. As most of you know, I love a good roast beef sandwich, but for some reason, it's hard to find a good one. . . this, my friends, is the best, with all the flavor and tnderness and [sometimes if I'm in the mood] cheesey goodness. Ugh, Iw ant one. . will write more later, but for now it's off to B&B's. toodles.

This is an old school diner. The booths are small, so if you are on the plus side, be prepared to squeeze in or order your food to go. The cashier was wonderful, and the food was delicious. I tried the roast beef sandwich and fries. Food was made to order, so it took a little time. It was well worth the short wait, as the food was hot and fresh. They have plenty of onsite parking. The bathroom is in the back of the kitchen. Although they have no problem letting you use it, it is annoying. I definitely would return for another roast beef sandwich, fries, and to try other menu items.

Not bad. Standard fare food, but they charge for every topping they put on your sandwich. Cheese, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato? all nickel and dimed. They have these things called Cheezer Teezers that are particularly good. The pizza rolls are good too. Roast beef is nothing special. Open late always allows food for those extra late parties.
