Cool Bar In Boston Right Next To Fenway. Really Top Notch Service, I Wasn’t Even Charged The Cover To Get In! Great Team Of Security As Well Edwin And Franz

Google
Had a great time at Bill's Bar & Lounge! The comedy shows on Friday and Saturday nights are a blast. Plus, the staff is friendly, and the drinks and food are good. Definitely worth checking out.

Google
Bills Bar is a place that’s been around forever but with the right managers and recent renovations they’ve got the place trendy, really eye catching and fun. There’s always a cool DJ turning up the crowd before and after the Red Sox games and the bartenders have great hospitality and are fast. Check out the fish and chips with a friend it’s a huge shareable plate.

Google
Shoutout to Cami! She was either prepping or serving up cold brew, she’s got all the answers with none of the BS. Besides the music, she’s a solid reason to return. Santacon2025

Glad to see this place is still around! Saw many shows here over the years. Jerry's Kids in 1994 Dresden Dolls, early 2000s. When they were just getting started!

Google
Great food! My family and I went last week and it was some of the best food I’ve had in a while let me tell you.

John A.

Google
They steal your money!!! If your group pays to get in, but then one person forgot their license, they will not return your money. We were a group of 4, all about 40 years of age. Refusal of entry was of course fine, but they wouldn't return our money. Keep in mind, no one went in yet, we were still all together at the cashier and paid as a group all together. Extremely rude and disrespectful. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Brian D.

Google
Entrance staff wouldn’t refund money within literally 20 seconds of taking our cash ($60 total) even though our entire group didn’t ever walk past the door entrance register, and we were communicating with the front entry staff the whole time. We had a designated driver in their late 40s with an “X” marked on both hands that showed this to the staff, plus offered to provide an image of his license but they still turned him down from any entry (even without having the option to only order water but no alcohol) and wouldn’t give the group money back when we said we would have to find another place. I’ve never posted a bad review for any other business before and typically my other reviews are positive because I believe in praising great service far more than criticizing others, but this experience at Bill’s was beyond poor and demonstrates highly unethical business practice.

Allie Q.

Yelp
Bill's the best!! Love the vibes and drinks in here as well as the live music. My go to spot in fenway for a good time.

Ravi K.

Yelp
Was there on Thursday for the live karaoke band and the bouncers suddenly kicked everyone out of the bar! Band was great but no reason was given for the shutdown. Shut the doors and that was that. Not a good experience.

Yelp
I wish they had a zero star option. We went to this bar last month after a baseball game. We had the worst experience ever!! The bouncer (a black 300lb bald male) was escorting a patron out. In the process he pushed my husband and was claiming that my husband elbowed him. I was standing right in front of my husband and I know he didn't elbow the fool. They proceeded to escort us out because I kept arguing that he was the one who pushed my husband. Don't waste your time and money at this place. Boston has a lot of great bars and this is not one of them!

Yelp
Great bar and lounge with affordable strong drinks!!! Our bartender was super sweet and the drinks were perfect and they range from beers of $5-8 to cocktails $10-12. The atmosphere was a very chill hang out vibe which I like that and not too crowd. We went on Wednesday night which are their Comedy Nights (FREE of charge) 7:30-9:00pm. Funny local comedians and we had a blast and meet some great people. Highly Recommend checking them out.

Yelp
nice bar, but a little small. the main highlight is that it connects with another bar - landsdowne. good vibes tho

jack S.

Yelp
Place draws an odd crowd. And gets overly packed. I love a busy bar but I think they need a capacity limit. Most of my complaint comes from my iphone being stolen while there. Workers were no help, which I get is tough but they couldn't have acted less surprised or concerned that my property was stolen.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Excellent service! It's a bar but is set up nicely on the inside. I went with coworkers for their comedy night that they do 2x per week. All the comics were pretty good considering that they were just locals. I went with meager expectations of them being good and was pleasantly surprised that they all were good. There was a lot of clever comedy and I laughed a lot. The bathroom was very clean. The only odd spot was the urinals in the men's bathroom. By code it does meet the 36" inch distance but these overlap and break man code. Lol

T H.

Yelp
One of the bouncers was genuinely so rude for no reason to my friends and I. Told us we could not come in and did not give us a reason why. Just said because he said so... that was the reason. Will never be coming here again- made my friend cry

Julie S.

Yelp
I wish I could give ZERO stars... the bartender was super rude to me and practically threw the drinks at me. I accidentally left my jacket in the bar and the bouncer would not let me go in to get it, I tried asking people on their way out to go back in and grab it but yet again the bouncer basically said "fuck you" to me and would not let me back in.

Val S.

Yelp
Staff is hostile and rude. I got kicked out of the bar before I could even buy my first drink for absolutely no reason (I had just come from a country concert across the street and was wearing a cowboy hat, hoping I wasn't kicked out due to political reasons) I was not given a reason and was treated very unfairly. Other patrons found me later that night and saw the whole thing and agreed I was being treated unfairly. I am not from the area nor will I ever be coming back. I do not recommend this establishment. Shame on them

Brynna k.

Yelp
Don't put your money in the music machine they skipped all my sOngs and kept playing crazy frog I nstead. THREE TIMEs Psa everyone here is Under age

Lauren P.

Yelp
This freak of a woman kicked me out for trying to the bathroom. Never come here. It wants me to add more characters horrible experience so so so rude dead sober and they kicked me out for the way i walked to bathroom. Genuinely don't come incredibly rude employee's I've never been spoken to this way by anyone in my life

Yelp
I would give this 0 stars if I could. Literally worst bar and service ever. We have never felt more unsafe at a bar. My boyfriend was aggressively asked to leave for no reason and when he asked why was very soon after shoved across the bar until he fell to the ground. He left with his hands up cooperating. OUTSIDE the security guard continued to interrogate and literally punch my boyfriend multiple times in the head. We have since been to the ER and he has a concussion. Please let me know why after LEAVING LIKE HE WAS ASKED he was still aggressively assaulted. The cops were called and nothing came of it...because my boyfriend did not do anything to deserve this. Meanwhile all the other employees were harassing us outside that they were going to arrest him, all employees were actively trying to make the situation worse, which I would assume their job is to do the exact opposite and actually de-escalate bar fights. This man needs to be identified and stopped from assaulting customers.

Hallie A.

Yelp
Terrible bouncers and service. I was treated so horribly as a customer. Will not be going back.

avery w.

Yelp
to say i was disappointed is an understatement. this was my usual summer spot, i no longer enjoy coming here on the weekends. most of this hatred is driven from the poor choice in bands. can't even escape lansdowne to go to bill's terrible choice in music. OFF KEY. I thought this was damn karaoke.

Tyrone P.

Yelp
Having a rough week as some of us do , I felt like a drink so I went to Bills bar .I met an amazing bartender long haired ,surfer looking, named Cam dude was awesome to say the least . This guy erased my bad week with conversation and great drinks! He is one of the reasons I have came back !

Erin F.

Yelp
My friend was having a diabetic emergency on the street and they would not allow us in to help her and I was defending her to the bouncer and all he had to say was"my mom is a diabetic"'. That is so inappropriate and if my friend had something severely occur they would be hearing from me. They don't care about their customers and are rude. Don't go here:)

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I would give no stars if it let me. Absolute trash of a bar and racist! Never returning and advise no one to come to this place. My friend was randomly approached by a bouncer here who was extremely disrespectful and went on telling him he's not "from here" and how he's never seen him in this bar before. My friend was extremely calm, but the bouncer said "you can leave if you don't like it". 100% racism and was unwarranted. Extremely uncomfortable and not welcoming. Stay far away!!!!!

Yelp
Avoid this place. First off, I was physically tackled down to the ground by the front door staff, they were very aggressive and unprofessional. Bathrooms are located at the front door, and when you come out, they will grab you and make you pay multiple cover charges to get back inside. It was my birthday and my boyfriend and I went to a comedy show here. After the comedy show, we stayed at the bar for drinks. We are not loud or confrontational people and were minding our own business. When we went to use the bathrooms, we were told we needed to pay another cover to get back inside. We provided receipts of our tickets and the front door woman said she didn't care, pay again. So my boyfriend payed again. When I politely voiced my concerns, the woman responded "that's it get out", only after taking our money again of course. We were forced to exit the building, our full drinks still at the table and jackets inside. When I asked to go get my jacket inside they told us no, we can't get them back. I explained I'm going to get my jacket and then we will leave. The woman at the door physically tackled me down onto the ground when I went to get my jacket. Mind you, I just had knee surgery for ACL reconstruction, was in a surgical brace, and clearly couldn't walk the greatest. I have never reviewed anything before, so the fact that I feel compelled to write a review says a lot. This was such a bizarre and uncalled for turn of events. I am still in a state of shock and trying to make sense of everything.

Julia P.

Yelp
Absolutely avoid this bar. I (a 115 pound girl) was thrown out with unnecessary force. The situation was extremely unprofessional. The host was extremely rude and I was trying to joke with her and she was abusing her power to have me thrown out. I had no problem leaving but the security guard who decided to throw me out was calling names such as transgender and creating a way worse situation. Once I left, I hear my sister was throw out using force as well and he throw the drink she just bought at her. She was minding her own business with the rest of our friends inside but he thought she was me so he starting to do the same things to her, being overly physical and calling her names. I could go on but just avoid if possible. I would never support a business who has people who think it's okay to physically assault women and call them horrible slurs.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Bill's Bar when I was looking for a good, cheap comedy show. The food was impressive for a bar. We got the crispy brussel sprouts, potato skins with bacon, and fried calamari. All the food was great. I would highly recommend all of them. The drinks were also stronger than anticipated. We sat in the front row of the comedy show. All the comedians (other than the host that day) were funny (which is also an impressive feat for even a dedicated comedy club).

Riley W.

Yelp
usually a good bar but my friend was wayyyyy overcharged due to a racist bartender who accused her of ordering an absurd amount of drinks for 3 people. Turns out the other asian woman next to her had also ordered drinks and this bartender "didn't realize they were different people". He refused to undo the charge and additionally charged the other woman.

Kelsey S.

Yelp
The small bouncer with the thick braids clearly isn't getting paid enough because he was begging my friend for $20 saying she cut the line. I asked for the guys name and his slightly shorter friend started shaking in his boots and called me a cunt and tried ripping my money out of my hands. He was planning on keeping the $20 for himself, it wasn't the entry fee. I tried to explain to him that she was with us and he threatened to hit me. They clearly are under paid, over worked and most likely on some hard drugs. I grew up in East boston and never experienced such hostility in terms of nightlife. I would not go here unless you want to be harassed by the sexist staff.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
horrible service! Male bartenders are absolutely judgmental and wouldn't let me order a second shot (I accidentally spilt my first one picking it up) because he THOUGHT I wanted it for free when I had my card in my hand... like nah Boston has gone so downhill I'd much rather go out in a smaller town with better bars and bartenders. I took my tip right back because it was that bad. It really soured my night. DON'T be in the service industry if you're going to make PAYING customers feel like shit. I will ABSOLUTELY never be back to that bar and will be telling everyone not to go as well. By the looks of some of the other reviews of this dump, it makes sense.

Justin A.

Yelp
After paying a $10 cover, we waited 30 minutes for the bartender to tell us that they weren't taking cards, after the bar back told us they were. Then on the opposite end of the bar, the bartender magically was able to take cards. We danced to the DJ for a while but then a band started playing on a incredibly low quality sound system. I could barely understand the words being sung. If you're charging for charging, you should have all your issues sorted and Bills was an absolute mess. You could not pay me to go back.

Grace B.

Yelp
I was ready to exit this place after paying the cover because the lady taking the money was beyond rude. She was yelling at us because we didn't put our hand out fast enough to be stamped and then yelled because I stood to the side while my friend payed instead of walking into the bar without her. Also would yell at any girls talking in the bathroom while waiting to use it. And I got scared I would get yelled at when I would walk past her to go to the bathroom. She kept saying how much she hated her job. The security guard was rude also when checking our IDs. The bartenders however were very nice!! The band that played was fun for St. Patrick's day but I was really sour after the interactions with the money girl and bouncer.

Yelp
Stoped in for a drink before the Sox's game. I don't know how I feel about this place for one I didn't expect it to be like a Hawaiian luau themed bar. I was with three of my bodies the waitress suggested we try one of there Hawaiian cocktails and we all could barely choke them down they tasted so bad. I'm willing to give the place another chance but I'm just going to stick with beers.
google avatar

Marissa H.

Yelp
Watched the super bowl here and managed to get two seats at the bar which was awesome. The bar staff was attentive and this place is super well priced. The menu isnt big at all, and the burgers come with the bare minimum so make sure you ask for toppings/fries, but you get what you pay for! I got two bud lights, potato skins, and split gravy tots for $25 with tip. It couldnt have been so packed but it was actually really great!
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Love the weekly comedy show. Great comics for almost no money. I mean it's 5 bucks, other clubs are $20+ with drink minimums too, and you can see the same comics at Bill's. Will go again.
google avatar

Zach R.

Yelp
Truly one of the best places to see comedy in Boston without paying an arm and a leg. I feel like I get to know my local comedy scene, plus big names from television who've done Late Night and HBO frequently drop by. Pretty cheap beers, good atmosphere, friendly hosts. 2 thumbs up.

Mere M.

Yelp
This is a great bar that has been on Landsdowne for years, the staff is fantastic! Will definitely be stopping in again next time we are visiting Boston.
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
The downside to Bill's Bar is that it is very narrow and is easily cramped. However, you can actually buy bottles of High Life there- not like that is something to brag about, but atleast it's affordable! Overall, it's a cool place. *I walked past their last night and it appeared to be closed (10pm on a Friday night), so maybe I'm out of the loop about something?
google avatar

Jessie B.

Yelp
The most rude staff. Assumes everyone is drunk and treats people like scum. The security thinks they run a stadium when this bar is the size of my living room. Horrible service horrible drinks horrible bathroom would recommend it to a monkey. I've never wrote a yelp review in my life.

Cera N.

Yelp
Bill's Bar is one of my favorite spots on Lansdowne St. For the oldest bar on the street, it has shockingly great food. We always went before Sox games but after trying out a random Wednesday and seeing the free comedy show, we'll definitely be back soon. We had a blast at the show and the bartender was great. Apparently they have free comedy every Wednesday! The bartender also mentioned they have comedy on Friday nights, free swing dancing lessons on Mondays and interactive trivia on Tuesdays. We will definitely be back for the free events and great bar food!
google avatar

Meaghan M.

Yelp
Didn't let someone of-age in because the clearly drunk bouncer "didn't like her ID." She offered multiple forms of ID verification and the owner said it wasn't good enough. Don't waste your money. Plenty of bars in the area with no cover and no rude as fuck service.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Don't ever come here! The food was way too greasy and the area was too crowded. The noise level was also way too high. I couldn't each hear the person next to me.
google avatar

Kaitlyn T.

Yelp
I went here for brunch this morning with a large party. Got there at 10:30 but they weren't open until 11. Not sure what happened, but I did see from my friend's email that they had booked the space starting at 10:30. I wasn't a part of figuring it all out so I didn't see how that was resolved. Either way they let us come in and sit at 10:30 which is nice. I was underwhelmed by the menu. My friend and I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a bagel. When it came out it was SOAKED in oil as was my friends. Bacon was completely charred. I still ate it and finished it but didn't really enjoy it. I felt sick after like oil coated my mouth. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing because the French toast and pancakes looked good. Home fries were pretty meh. Overall ambiance was boring. I'll never come back honestly.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Went there for the first time. Opening act was great. Headliner not so much. What unbearable was the usher who told us to not talk at all and then led us to a seat that was occupied. First time I ever left a full beer.
google avatar

Yelp
First off why does everything in Boston close so early? ( I'm from D.C. things close later) We got to Bills Bar at about midnight and we we're informed by the bartender that the place would be shutting down in about an hour and a half so this was news to me. I came expediting to be here for at least 3 hours but nonetheless let's get to the experience. It was a pretty shitty day outside raining and sleeting so I didn't expect to much of a crowd. I was only in town for the weekend so I wasn't going to waste any time. We came here per the recommendation of our former coach Knizzy who bounces next door at the Landsdowne pub. So the place was very spacious they even had enough space for us to sit down and take off our jackets so that's what we did. I only ended getting one drink because they were closing soon I wasn't gonna try and catch up to the other degenerates in there. This place is nice because there is a stair case median that when you walk through it outs you inside the Landsdowne pub with out having to go outside so that was a nice little feature of the venue. The night was going decent but then it all got sour once I started listening to the DJs playlist. It was abysmal he played nothing but hits from the mid to late 2000s (In da club, all I do is win, bottoms up). I have nothing against those songs but those are songs you mix in with whatever is trending now. So the DJ just brought the mood down for me and my boys so I said hey I'll charge this one to the game. (That means to take an L) All in all it was not a memorable night at all. The place wasn't that busy and the music wasn't that good either. I had my hopes up because it's near Fenway I thought it would be more lively than that. Guess your boy was wrong but hey lesson learned.
google avatar

Shantael M.

Yelp
Great vibe and the sound system is AMAZING for such a small place. The food was decent, what you would expect from a bar. A little cramped. A little revamping of the table-chair layout could easily fix that. Definitely need more seating, bar and otherwise.
google avatar

Gab S.

Yelp
My friends and I were planning on going to a different bar in Fenway and when the line was too long and it was too cold outside we decided to try out Bill's Bar. We were happily surprised by the experience! We paid $5 each to get it. There was the lower level which was more of a club setting, where we spent most of out time dancing! The upper level had a live band that night and was more causal, which was very nice as well. Will definitely be coming back! So happy to have found a new fun place!

Ed L.

Yelp
The bartender cooked our bread pudding spectacularly My compliments to the chef Would have been 5 stars but they refused to put my Guinness in the microwave In my homeland this is a treasonous offense
google avatar

Josh D.

Yelp
I see a lot of comedy in my travels and I have to say Bills Bar has some of the best in local comedy. If you want a cheap night out with Big Laughs from some of the best Comics out there this is the show for you!

Catie K.

Yelp
Terrible service. I was told by a bouncer "my coworker doesn't like your attitude" because I was a disappointed they weren't serving food anymore. As one very established professional to another, I am taken back by the disrespect and terrible service. I will never step foot in the establishment.
google avatar

Emma L.

Yelp
Bills Bar takes me back. I remember when they would play endless loops of "Land Down Under" by Men at Work and show "Riding Bean" on the tv screens between band sets. It's a great place to go if Jillian's gets on your nerves and you are just not feeling the Avalonplex or the Game On! plex.
google avatar

Stefanie L.

Yelp
I had such a good time at Bill's Bar after the Red Sox-Yankees game last night. It was crowded, but there was still room to dance. Bar service was quick and accurate. The DJ that was playing did such an amazing job. There was only one song that I wasn't crazy about dancing to in the 2 hours that we were there.
google avatar

Trish F.

Yelp
I was here for about 5 hours this past Saturday and whoa.. overload. I was working merch for some musicians and arrived almost 3 hours before the show. The place was full of VERY drunk Red Sox fans (and the game had just let out). The guys playing that night (4 separate artists) were doing sound check and this one drunk kept yelling "Play SOMETHING!". I really don't know their policy for kicking people out, but he stayed for awhile and was completely plastered. He was going up to women and saying things and then stumbling off to the bathroom. Didn't seem right.. but oh well. After a couple hours the bar began to clear, and the low neck line sundressed women and button down shirted men rolled in along with the musicians' screaming fans. There were a lot of "Staten Island" girls between the two sets if anyone knows what I mean. ;) A few Sox fans lingered in the back of the room getting wasted till they started to like the music. The sound was okay at first then got better through the night as the musicians yelled their preferences from stage (it also looked like they had at least two sound board operators switch off). There was still a good mix of people not there for the musicians so there was a ton of background noise in the videos I took. Oh and the TV channel changes made me laugh slash were sort of distracting.. from Law and Order to Finding Nemo then to baseball. Muh? As for staff, I personally didn't deal with the bartenders (my friend was getting me drinks since I had to watch all of the merch tables) but they were kind of jerky to her. They said they weren't serving tap water that night and that she'd have to buy bottled. When she said, "Really?".. the bartender said, "Well I can give ya a cup of ice and you could go to the bathroom?". I've only known one other bar to do this (check my one star reviews), but seriously lady? During the summer? The bottled water was $2.50. I'm kind of torn about my rating. The snooty bartenders, its proximity to Fenway bringing in loud patrons looking to mix/mingle instead of listen to the music, and the kind of gross bathrooms (that huge picture of Bill Clinton.. what?) get a low rating from me. On the other hand the good music and decent space (although the red Chinese lanterns weirdly paired with the record sleeves and hanging motorcycles threw me off since the latter reminds me too much of Hard Rock.. not really a good imitation IMHO) are cool with me. Come here after a Sox game.. not so sure about any other night..hmmm..
google avatar

R F.

Yelp
I was just there for a second time on Saturday to see a bunch of "lounge rap/hip hop" musicians. It was a damn good time. However, I DID spend $130 including both cab rides ($10 each way), but still that's a lot of money!!! Anyway, the layout is cool, the location is key, the sound is pretty good quality for music. I like the place. I'll go back there... especially if I can get a gig there. :P

Sean L.

Yelp
Nice little bar for the places on this street. Mainly because it's not a big cheesy club like the places next door. Of course the night I was there (Paper a local indie night) might not be their regular clientele, but in any case I had a fun time. Bottles of Miller High Life were only 3$. (Whoa I'm classy) and the bartender was pretty friendly with me. The bouncers were also fine instead of the regular intrusive cocky bros they normally can be in that area. "Paper" is only going on their until the end of June '06 I believe but I'll be making an attempt to get back one of these Thursday nights.
