Bill's Olde Tavern has been a mainstay at 5 points right off Quakerbridge Road. I've been there quite a few times over the years, albeit not recently.
Despite it being slow on a weekday, it took a while to get any sort of acknowledgement from the one server that was working the dining area. You seat yourself, so you just kind of play the waiting game until a server comes over. I understand it's a bar and that's the primary focus, but felt the dining area service is more of an afterthought. It didn't help that there were pesky flies and mosquitoes roaming around the dining area. We ordered a classic (cheese) bar pie, a burger, and the penne vodka. The server was apologetic that it took a long time for the food to come out. The bar pie (2.5/5), was merely average and not up to par with better bar pies I've had. The crispy crust was the best part, with cheese and sauce being just ok (not utilizing quality ingredients). The penne vodka (2.5/5) was underwhelming, as you can get a better version of the dish with more flavorful sauce at most other restaurants in the area. The grilled chicken that came with it was very plain in taste. I thought the burger (1.5/5) would be decent, but it was served undercooked with plenty of red despite requesting it be cooked well done. I mentioned it to the waitress and rather than take it off the check, she gave a modest $5 discount, leaving me to pay over $10 for basically an inedible and undercooked meal, which is poor customer service in my book. Overall, my impression was that Bill's Olde Tavern prefers to serve up alcoholic drinks as a watering hole, and has an "average at best" approach to food and service. To make things worse, they levy a 4% credit card fee which is petty considering it's not the norm among eateries in the area. Sadly, this visit will be likely be my last, and I wouldn't recommend the place to others, as there's much better options in the area for food where your money would be better spent.
