We just had a wonderful lunch at Bill's Place. The best part was the enthusiastic service we enjoyed from our table crew. We were keen to watch how Daniel, and Reda (we asked them their names, to be sure) ...how great they are with customers. From the genuine "welcome in" energy from each of them to every customer, to their watchful eye over every table, complete with offers to make sure every customer has what they need.
I noticed how, when a homeless man came in, and got the same welcome from Daniel who offered him a menu. The man ordered and then gave up several crumpled bills from deep in his pocket. He received , from Daniel, every bit of respect and service and gratitude as any other paying customer. These two young men portrayed the class that would make their boss, their community and their parents proud.
We live out of SF nowadays, so we haven't been to Bill's Place in years, but what we experienced in food was consistent with our memories of this classic, fun, comprehensive burger joint. The Burgers were done perfectly to order the Tuna Melt was classic, the Fries came piping hot, and the shakes (shareable) were indulgent! Banana...Yum!
Another thing we noticed was that Bill's Place filled up quickly, especially considering when a group of 22 people clamored into the out-back deck. As we watched, the grill man, along with help from (Manager-on-Duty) Reda, and a woman who also jumped in, never lost any cool. With lots of orders coming in the grill-meister never skipped a beat, never got a bit flustered. We were not expecting our food to be set out in such a timely manner. Bravo!
