Do St. Louis-style wings exists in NYC? | Eater NY

"In St. Louis I found versions called trashed/trash/dirty wings; at Billy G’s the preparation was double‑frying—wings are deep‑fried, coated with hot sauce, deep‑fried again, and then presented with more hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and celery." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Jack t was an amazing server. He was very polite willing to explain. The menu. he took the time for us to feel like a valued customer, so I would say there's a wonderful place to eat. Food was promptly served. drinks was never empty.Atmosphere is great. great value for the money.Highly recommend with ten plus stars

Google
Billy G's is pretty good. I would say, it's definitely a go to spot in Kirkwood. Huge area to eat inside or outside. I believe they have live music sometimes outside which is always a plus. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan which came with a Caesar salad. My fiancée ordered the Cajun Pasta Salad. The salad was by far my favorite item that I ordered. I really enjoyed it and was very good quality. The chicken parm was decent, but the red sauce seemed a bit basic and almost just like tomato sauce dumped on a plate. It wasn't bad, but did the job. Adequate food. If you're looking for a chill spot with decent food, this place is good. Chicken Parmesan - 6/10 Pasta - 5/10 Caesar Salad - 9/10 Cajun Pasta Salad - 7/10 Billy G-s - 7/10

Google
My favorite brunch spot! I forgot to call and make a reservation earlier in the week for my birthday brunch so I ended up calling Thursday, knowing I might be SOL. However the host said they would have to speak to the manager and call me back because they were packed already with reservations. Well Victoria did her thing because they got us in! Amazing staff and delicious food!

Google
Very good neighborhood restaurant! Menu varied so it can meet many desires. Great patio and popular place for groups to meet at lunch! Family of companies is consistent with food and service.

Google
Originally ordered the eggplant and the server came back after 20-30 minutes to let me know they were out. I then ordered the poke veggie bowl thinking it would have hemp seeds or some sort of sauce or veggie protein.. it was rice, soy sauce, carrots and broccoli. I took it home because I couldn’t eat it. I added coconut oil, hemp seeds and cilantro lime sauce.

Google
Last night was the 2nd time I've eaten dinner here. The food, service and atmosphere are fantastic! They had lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The only negative is parking, we had to park a couple blocks away.

Patricia Sims

Google
This was my first time eating here. I live the atmosphere. It was Sunday brunch and very busy. I was with a bigger crowd of people so the service was a little slow but....it was busy. I would like to come back when its slower and quieter. I LOVE Kirkwood. I had a breakfast sandwich and a bellini.

Google
Everything here was good. The service was a little slow but not bad. Would differently eat here again.

Yelp
I love Billy G's but almost $28.00 for a 2 topping pizza is ridiculous. The toppings were a little skimpy for $3.99 each extra.

Yelp
Came for lunch with my sister, we had a short wait but nothing outrageous for a Friday afternoon. We split the spinach artichoke dip, my sister got the shrimp tacos, and I got the French dip. All were pretty good with generous portion sizes! The prices are a little steep, but it's pretty on par with the area. Our service was fairly slow, our server even made the comment that she felt like she had neglected us. The place is huge and has a beautiful patio, my sister and I both said we would love to return just to enjoy the space with friends!

Yelp
If you're looking to get your drink on, this place would be a good place for that. Has a good outside space and decent inside bar area. The food however - not that great unless you're getting a burger. - Chicken spiedini was very lackluster. Not much filling, dry and lacking much flavor. - Chili: Not very good and must be some pre-fab chili stuff they're using. - Alfredo: This wasn't too bad...especially compared to the other items I listed above. - Burger was decent enough. Hard to mess up a burger. Would I be back to eat? No. Like I said...get your drink on - that's what this place is good for.

Yelp
had two bloody Mary's and two appetizers and a bill came to $100 this place is priced themselves too high. That's why this place is not packed on a beautiful day like today I used to be been coming here for over a decade. Very disappointed. Food was subpar way overpriced server was fantastic Won't be back

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night at 10pm. Was able to get seated right away. Staff was very friendly and loved talking about the history of the restaurant and St. Louis. Food was very good. I had the Brisket plate, small pizza and gooey cheesecake. Brisket was very tender and flavorful. Pizza was St. Louis thin crust. It looks light but it was nice and heavy. Gooey cheesecake was definitely the right choice. Wish the slices were bigger though! Overall a great restaurant, vibes were relaxing and our server was checking in very often to make sure we were well taken care of.

Yelp
A friend and I did some boutique shopping in Kirkwood, while our dogs were at a local dog spa. After shopping, it was time for a martini and a light lunch. When you're in Kirkwood, you cannot go wrong when you dine at Billy G's. We both enjoyed an Extra Dry Vodka (Tito's) Martini, with olives as a garnish. They were so good, I had to have a second one. My friend remained strong and only had one, but she enjoyed hers as much as I did mine. They truly were a masterfully made cocktail. My friend is doing low-carb, so she ordered their Backyard chicken wings and chose Bleu Cheese for dipping. The wings were a BBQ dry-rub and must of been good, she cleaned those bones like a pro. I went with their, Gianino's Salad with Gianino's House dressing. I went with the starter size, but added Grilled Shrimp. The salad is a Romaine and Iceberg mix with, STL style cheese, (code for Provel) mushroom, green onion and pimento. Adding the shrimp was a smart decision, it truly made it a great lunch. I loved, it. The shrimp were good sized and delicious. Our server was attentive, friendly and did not rush us. He even helped us make some of our decisions.

Yelp
I went here for lunch with a groups of friends/coworkers. This was my first time going here. The place also had brunch at the time too. We all decided to order instead of brunch. I got the eggplant parmesan. It came with white pasta and a salad. I went with the Caesar salad. The salad was good, rich and flavorful. I also got their alcoholic drink, it was peach something but I forgot the name of it. It was a good drink. The service was great. The waitress was very attentive.

Yelp
Great food... We love ordering online! I don't think they've ever messed up on our order. Hard to get outdoor seating at times, but that's to be expected in a town like Kirkwood... Probably our top five fave restaurants in the area.

Yelp
We visited Billy G's for our monthly book club. The location had easy to find parking and we didn't have to wait long for a table. The music and atmosphere were so loud that we couldn't hear each other from the opposite sides of the table and even had trouble hearing the server when he took our order. The reason for the 3 stars was the food itself. I am not a picky eater but was taken aback by how salty the burger was. A couple of us got a burger and we all had a hard time with the saltiness. I was also surprised the burger did not come with lettuce, tomato, or onion. I asked the server after we got our food and was told it would be an additional cost, and that I only had lettuce on mine because I asked for a lettuce wrapped burger instead of the bun. It was surprising to hear lettuce tomato or onion wasn't a standard offering for the burgers. I don't know if I'll return to Billy G's, the service was nice but the food and atmosphere were not something I would pay for again.

Yelp
Came here on a double date - place was packed. They didn't take reservations but worked with us on getting a table of 4 set. Drew was our server and truly had top level service - pays attention to the details, is quick, and just overall quality guy. Highly recommend coming here even just to experience the service! Leaving happy! Also accommodated my wife who is vegan ! Thank you!

Yelp
I came here for happy hour last night, it was a beautiful night on their patio. We arrived around 430 and there was already a wait- this place is always busy! They have some pretty great happy hour specials. $6ish dollars for house wine, beer, well cocktails, and cans. We ordered some white wine and ended up getting dinner, so no HH food options for us. I love their house salad, so I got that with chicken. My mom got the chicken spedini and always has great things to say about it. Our server was so busy but still attentive, definitely appreciated. Happy we got one last happy hour on the patio before it gets too cold!

Yelp
Lovely patio with live music. Dog friendly. Long wait on a Sunday evening. Plenty of TVs to watch the game. The brisket platter was just ok. The meats were covered in sugar which was a surprise. The broccoli salad was better than the potato salad.

Nancy B.

Yelp
Food was good, our waiter Parker was amazing. The manager however was extremely rude and condescending. I was there with a group of friends for a reunion. The manager came over to shush us in a very condescending way. Big mistake, HUGE, Billy G's just lost our business as well as anyone we tell.

Yelp
About a week ago I took my parents here for a large variety dinner meal and they were not let down by the experience. Our server was delightful, very efficient and personable which we found to be true of all the staff. We love wings and have high expectations and were very pleased with the trashed wings. My dad couldn't stop talking about the quality of the blue cheese. The pizza was good as well but I could barely touch it because of how satisfied / full I was with the Cobb salad.

Yelp
I recently visited Billy G's on a Saturday night at 5 PM with a group of 9, and we had made reservations almost a week in advance. Almost immediately upon arrival, we were seated at a spacious table towards the back of the restaurant. They were packed! Unfortunately it was raining pretty hard all night, but I would have loved to sit out on their comfortable heated patio. The fire and string lights looked so cozy! My table ordered a variety of drinks, including their seasonal Harvest Margarita and Angry Orchard. Everything was great! The Harvest Margarita is made with Una Vida tequila, lime juice, simple, topped with apple cider, and it's served in the cutest mason jar with a cinnamon-sugar rim. I was impressed by their expansive menu! I debated between several different menu items before deciding on the Con Broccoli, which includes marinara + garlic parmesan cream sauce blend, broccoli, mushroom, and mini rigatoni. I ordered it without mushroom. The portion was HUGE! I easily could have split it with my friend who ordered the same thing as me. It's always nice to take home leftovers, though! Service was a bit slow, but totally understandable since we had such a large group and it was crowded. Our server also mixed up all of our checks when it was time to pay, but once again understandable because of our larger group. She resolved everything quickly.

Yelp
Awesome menu with some great tasting food. I noticed they had a coffee menu and I was very surprised since I thought this was more of a diner place. They had tons of flavors and great mixes! Amazing food!
google avatar

Yelp
Sat at the bar and shared a couple appetizers. We had the sesame crusted tuna and the backyard chicken wings. The tuna was served like sushi with toasted sesame seeds, soy ginger sauce and honey wasabi. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. The backyard chicken wings were 1lb of BBQ dry rubbed & charred on the grill. I'd give this 4 out of 5 stars. Excellent service at the bar. Street parking in front of the restaurant.

Yelp
I think the hype was too big. It wasn't as easily allergy-proof as expected. I had an excellent Cobb salad -HUGE!- with a few items omitted. The place was packed. Our party was large. Not a fair assessment for Billy G's. I'll go back again and get you an update.

Yelp
When I tell you I was satisfied with this place!! From the moment I walked in, until we left, everyone was so pleasant, professional and detailed. All of our food (waffle, eggs, sausage, potatoes, and biscuits) were amazing! I literally could have ate a plate of just sausage and biscuits! Our waiter Mat was so kind and made sure we were taken care of. The restaurant is currently getting some renovations, but it didn't cause any confusion.

Yelp
Repeat visit, a beautiful day to sit outside or dine in! I ordered my favorite beverage, their delicious red sangria, but they only carry it in the winter months. So I looked over their nice drink menu and decided on a Bahama Breeze. It was so delightful with tropical coconut rum, pineapple and cranberry juices. Almost thought I was in the Florida Keys for a moment!! Hubby chose Billy's house burger with fries with the "special sauce." Our waitress confirmed it was thousand island! I was graciously given a couple bites and it was superb! Fries were good and were fried fresh without being greasy. I selected the Gianino's deluxe flatbread pizza! Wow! So deliciously fresh and piping hot! Our server was just ok; she seemed friendly and she met our needs well. Can't go wrong here with ANY item on the menu!! I'm already looking forward to returning!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Everything was very large portions. We ordered 1 appetizer and 4 entrees. Definitely way too much food. We probably have 2 whole portions worth of food leftover. Service was fast. Easy parking. Very lively atmosphere.

Yelp
Billy Gs is a go to for nice weather patio dining in Kirkwood area. We went after a Kirkwood trick or treat event to take in some fall weather dishes. Our tradition has been the apple cider margaritas they put on their seasonal menu. So yummy! This year they added a couple new cocktails, but I stuck to tradition. I ordered their chili since it was a cool evening, and it did not disappoint. It was the most hearty bowl of chili I may have had at any restaurant. Lots of meat and great value! Wait staff is always super nice here. And the ambiance was perfect to get into the spirit of the Halloween festivities.

Yelp
When my husband and I came to St. Louis for vacation, we stopped at Billy G's a couple of times because it was recommended to us. We ended up LOVING our experiences, sitting inside the restaurant for brunch and outside on the patio for dinner. When we came here for dinner, we came on a super busy night where they had live music outside on the patio. As a result, most were sitting outside, and we wanted to, as well. We ended up waiting an extra 15 minutes for a table outside despite being able to sit inside immediately, but it was worth it. Although we didn't end up sitting on the end of the patio where the musician was playing, we loved the atmosphere. When we came here for brunch later in our vacation, we sat at a hightop near the bar, and we loved that atmosphere, too. We were still decently secluded from the busyness of the main dining room, and we were sitting near other couples since the tables near the bar only had two-seated tables. During our dinner experience, I ended up ordering a delicious frozen mango margarita and a veggie power bowl with chicken ($17.99). This came with brown rice, broccoli, carrots, and low-sodium soy sauce. It was delicious, though admittedly, I think it had too much rice, which ended up drying out the dish. The chicken was grilled and seasoned PERFECTLY, though, and I think the chicken completed the dish. I can't imagine how plain the bowl would have been without any protein. During this visit, my husband ordered the brisket plate ($19.99) and raved about it our whole trip! The BBQ menu is only available Thursday-Sunday, and he was so happy with the way it was cooked. With this meal, you get cornbread and the choice of two other sides, and he ended up ordering the coleslaw and broccoli salad with bacon. He wasn't a fan of the broccoli salad too much, but that was just him not liking it, not that it was made wrong. During our brunch experience, I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of fruit ($13.99). They have AMAZING gravy with the perfect texture and flavor. I would 100% order this again if I return to St. Louis. For my drink, I ordered the bloody mary, and it was delicious. It was a bit on the spicier side, which I enjoyed, and it had a perfect blend of vodka and tomato so that it didn't taste too strong either way. As for my husband, he ordered the steak & eggs plate ($19.99), and the steak was cooked perfectly to his liking. He also ordered a side of sausage links, which he enjoyed. Service-wise, we always had great personable waitresses, and everyone at the front desk was also nice and helpful. We had no problems with anyone or anything throughout both experiences. Overall, we had the best experiences here, and we will continue to recommend to all who visit St. Louis.
google avatar

Carson D.

Yelp
My first time here was for a friend's birthday celebration. The menu had many drink and food options to choose from. The patio area was large. There was live music playing throughout our dinner. Our service was standard. The food was decent. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance of this establishment the most.
google avatar

Russ B.

Yelp
We had great weather as we sat on their beautiful patio and had great food and conversation. The band was great, and not too loud so we could still hear ourselves. The server was very friendly and the cocktails were delicious! The portions of the nachos and the pizza were colossal and made it easy to share the tasty food.
google avatar

Yelp
We are from California, but whenever we are in St. Louis (visiting college daughter), Billy G's Kirkwood is always top of the list for my husband!!! He loves the pork chops, I love the salads, we love the artichoke dip, and all the other items we and our friends and family members have tried!!!!
google avatar

Merry W.

Yelp
Billy G's is always a favorite place for their patio. Unfortunately it was too cold but don't let that keep you away. It's still a great place! I had the chicken spiedeni sandwich and oh my goodness....it's so good! Sweet potato fries are crispy and so yummy too. We ended with a chocolate martini and it didn't disappoint either. The only complaint I can ever have is it's so loud inside! Of course they can't help That everyone wants to eat there! I've never seen it not crowded so get there early! Always great service too!
google avatar

Tom K.

Yelp
We had a great time at Billy G's. We went with another couple. We started with The artichoke dip and the smokehouse nachos. 3 of us had the 3 blind mice amber on draft. It is so good nice and smooth with hints of carmel. My wife had the sunset spritz. She said it was very good. My friend and I had the large deluxe pizza. It was over loaded with toppings. There was a cheese hamburger pizza with pickle and onion and a chicken modiga ordered everything was delicious and hot. Our waitress Bella was fantastic. She was attentive and made sure we were never thirsty. We sat in side for dinner everything was cleaned and spotless. A very good evening with friends
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
I've been back here many times since my first visit, and every time the food has been great! This most recent time we got the Buffalo chicken salad and the trashed wings. Both were great! The trashed wings were very crispy and had lots of flavor, one of our new favorites from this place that we will order again!
google avatar

Zhenya B.

Yelp
We came here for dinner. Lovely atmosphere. We had a very nice server. We got spinach dip- amazing. My husband got black and blue burger and it was not great. I got burger recommendation from our server and did not love it. The meat is not seasoned at all. It was nice overall.
google avatar

Genevieve K.

Yelp
We went to Billy G's for carry out pizza and it did not disappoint! I walked in and was immediately served. There was live music and everyone seemed to be in a great mood! The pizza was pretty good and a good size for a larger group! I'd love to try again and dine in!
google avatar

Yelp
As a pizza aficionado I was concerned about St Louis cheese and the description that it has its own flavor but when in St Louis (or anywhere) do as the locals do. I visited here on a Friday night visiting a friend, good energetic atmosphere. Now the pizza. It was good and the taste while different wasn't off-putting to me. I wouldn't try it again as it's something I'd try once but I prefer mozzarella or something less robust. The service here was good. Not great, definitely not bad. It was very busy so all things considered it was good. Why 3-stars. It was your average bar/restaurant. It had that hometown local vibe which I like and at the same time even the friends I were with lived, worked, and one of them were born here. I didn't feel like we belonged.
google avatar

Josh E.

Yelp
My wife, myself, and some friends came here on a Friday night. We wanted to sit on the patio. We did not have a reservation--the wait was about 1 hour on the dot. Once seated, our server was on it! We got drinks and apps placed promptly. We got the spinach artichoke dip which was fantastic. For an entree, my wife and I shared a custom pizza consisting of basically a meatlovers. The pizza was fresh, mouth watering cheese, and great meats on top! We really enjoyed our experience here.
google avatar

Miranda G.

Yelp
Top place I enjoy to brunch! They have a huge menu with a ton of options for all eaters. For brunch they also have a bottomless brunch bar with a variety of juices, fruits, topping, and mixers. The bar is a little pricey so you have to drink a few to get your moneys worth. Food was delicious! But honestly the patio is the move. It seats so many people, the restaurant and the patio are huge. Service is good though does seem chaotic! Some of the pricing is on the higher end, so if coming I would expect a few extra $$ for things.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Updated review from 4 years ago. The patio are was a nice spot to seat and the food was delicious. They offer a full bar and have a wide variety of food options to please just about everyone. The fettuccine was good and a nice change from burgers and fries. Salads are fresh and full of flavor.
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
I can understand the hype around this place! The food was yummy! The service was wonderful. They are decorated for the holiday season! Pros: great service, the trashed wings are incredible, and the BBQ sauce had good flavor. Cons: wait times were pretty long and they don't accept reservations or call aheads for small parties. The brisket could not have been worse, but judging from other reviews/pictures this might have been a one-off night for the brisket? We can hope. It was incredibly dry and sliced super thin.
google avatar

Tess Imig L.

Yelp
Great food, big portions, fun atmosphere! Popped in on Memorial Day for a quick lunch in between project. Billy G's got us in, seated, and earned quickly! The spinach and artichoke dip was great, the dip was warm but not burning hot which meant we could eat it easily. The Hawaiian chicken sandwich is the perfect mix of sweet, savory, and tangy due to ham, pineapple, and honey mustard. The patio is fantastic, but we ate inside due to no wait. We look forward to going back and enjoying the patio soon!
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
The brunch was amazing and their outdoor seating is always enjoyable. I highly recommend trying their brunch on the weekends!

Yelp
After a long day at the Dogtown St. Pat's parade we decided to hit up Billy G's. We were able to grab two spots at the bar. Lovely bar and the dark hardwood in the restaurant was warm and inviting. I did stick with the day's theme and ordered corned beef and cabbage. I also received a free t-shirt for doing so. I know Italian is there cuisine, so they did a decent job on the corned beef and cabbage. I would definitely go back and order off the regular menu. Our bartender was attentive even on a crazy evening.

Autumn R.

Yelp
Great happy hour well drink specials. Their peach cocktail is delicious and so worth the price tag. Food is pretty good, not mind blowing but their patio makes up for it. Very friendly waiters but one of the managers was unpleasant as we overheard him speaking rather harshly with his staff.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Love love love. Portions are family size, so order one entree to split or plan to have leftovers the next day. I'm not complaining! The atmosphere is loud and lively, cozy and familiar. Dining here is always fun and the service is always on point. Just thinking of meeting up with coworkers and friends for cocktails, lunch, or dinner puts a smile on my face. I can recommend the sesame crusted tuna app, spinach & artichoke dip, wings, grilled salmon. Ovoid salad, tortellini prosciutto, pasta con broccoli, & burgers. All excellent!
google avatar

Terrilyn L.

Yelp
So I love Billy Gs for bar food like wings n burgers!!!! But the brunch was just ok. The option of bottomless mimosas/Bloody Mary is a major plus. We sat at the bar and the service at the bar was awesome. We went at opening so not crowded. But when we leaving we met a nice young lady stalking our seats. Lol. So it does get crowded. If you are going to watch a game there are plenty of tvs!!! I definitely recommend Billy G's, just maybe not for brunch.
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Appreciate the Gluten Free options here. Overall experience was decent, atmosphere was fun. Definitely a popular place and luckily got in quicker than we thought we would.

Catherine M.

Yelp
Take out food is much different from Dino g in ! My salad had ALL LETTUCE with Rust on it !
google avatar

Bonnie L.

Yelp
Large lot for parking. Seated quickly. The nachos are amazing! The size! It was very tasty, perhaps more cheese would've been good. Had the trash wings and the sauces ones. Prefer the taste of the sauces wings but they were all solid.
google avatar

Jo Nell R.

Yelp
Dinner with friends. It was a little too chilly for us for the patio but lots of people were enjoying it. One of our party was arriving late but we were able to get seated and the waiter was accommodating. The parade of pizza walking by our table changed the order of two at our table. That and the trashed wings were the hit of the table. I wasn't a fan of the soup of the day. It was Pasole but not. Turkey club and fries were generous portions. They were good. Gianino family restaurants are consistent in service and atmosphere.
google avatar

Cassandra S.

Yelp
We came in for a quick drink. My husband had never tried Blantons and this establishment offers drinks of it for $20 which is much cheaper then buying a bottle for over $120. We weren't greeted when we walked in and stood there for a few minutes before just heading to the bar, once we got to the bar we were promptly greeted. We had our drink within a minute. Our check was delivered promptly. All the bartenders were doing so well making sure each customer had what they wanted or needed without waiting. Great customer service and incredible ambiance.

Yelp
Billy G's is a favorite of ours. My family and I love you get together for brunch. On weekends they have a bottomless bar with all the mix ins you could imagine for mimosas, Irish coffee, and bloody marys
