Different Cheesesteak #1239. SHOCKING!! Walking to Billy’s, it was like a ghost town. Open Billy’s door, everyone was in Billy’s. I got a cheesesteak with fried onions. When I saw my cheesesteak, I was concerned (sans the 2 pickles. I love side pickles). When I ate my cheesesteak, I was happy. Somehow the average roll, unexciting meat, and not many onions blended together very nicely. Fun neighborhood bar. Crew/rowing dominated decor. A Diverse crowd, including a young family, two guys discussing fantasy football, Theo, and possibly a Tinder date. I made good on giving my Cheesey shirt to the first person who told me they liked it. I just looked at my receipt. $13, you know I love that. Cash only.

Having lived in the neighborhood for four and half years and stopped by several times over the years before moving here, I love Murphy's and it's the local watering hole for the neighborhood. Prices are decent, beer and drink selection is decent, and the food is pretty good as well. Just had the Italian Roast Pork Sandwich the night before leaving this review, and man was it as good as always. Honestly the fries are kinda shitty - but the burgers, wings, and other sandwiches are usually good as well. If they could improve the fries I'd give the food a solid 5/5

Google
What a wonderful neighborhood bar and restaurant. It’s like the Philadelphia version of Cheers, hiding in plain sight. The bar feels warm and welcoming. The crew are friendly. The food was absolutely on point and great. There’s no Irish food per se but it’s about as good a burger and fries cooked perfectly to order with a perfectly poured Guinness to pair. Nice work.

Google
Murphy’s Saloon in East Falls: My Daily Temptation Let’s start with the facts: Murphy’s says it’s a saloon, but it’s really a gastropub in disguise—minus the attitude. This place is pure comfort. It’s warm, welcoming, and somehow hits that rare sweet spot between elevated food and a laid-back vibe. JK, the bartender when I went, was on point—friendly, chill, and knows his beer. Speaking of beer? Impeccable. Great choices, perfectly poured. And the food? Dangerous. Like, I-have-to-stop-myself-from-going-every-single-day dangerous. They carve their turkey fresh. The roast pork sandwich was mind-blowing. The cheesesteak? Made with sirloin. Come on. That’s not a sandwich, that’s a commitment to excellence. And the fries. The fries. I dream about them. They’re the kind of fries that make you cancel other plans. To top it all off, the prices are super reasonable—though I hesitate to say that too loudly. Please, Murphy’s, don’t raise them. We love you just the way you are.

Google
Very uninviting atmosphere for anyone that isn't a regular. They also have a large Blue Lives Matter flag hanging above the bar. What's up with all the East Falls businesses being owned by bootlickers?

Stopped in this past Saturday for a cold drink after my son's baseball game. Perfect spot to meet some friends and watch the horse races. Bartender was super friendly. Next time I hope to stop in and sample their food.

Google
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for late lunch with best friend. We hadn’t been to Bill Murphy’s in probably 12 years since college but always loved their wings and chill atmosphere. Bill’s hasn’t changed in the best way possible. The bartender was so nice and their chef can cook! Everything, wings, pig wings all good. I took a cheese steak to go and wish I had taken 3. Love Bill’s ❤️ Cash Only (ATM inside)

Update: I've gone a few more times for the wing special, this time on Sunday during the game. It's so crowded that you can't find a seat but the wings are not available to go. Luckily two people were getting up from the bar for us before our wings were ready but it would have been difficult to eat standing. I also noticed my original review mentioning that they didn't have cider options but they do now. They also have canned seltzers and other options. Update: Went for their Wednesday wing special. Decent wings for a great price. Ordered a Diet Coke. No idea what brand they are serving but it was awful (not a Pepsi, I know that flavor). Original: Went with some friends. I know people are obsessed with Mill Murphy's but I didn't really see it. I'm also not a beer drinker. They didn't have any cider options and their mixed drinks are limited. I'm also not a fan of cash only places, even though I understand why businesses might choose to go that route.

Yelp
Never had a bad meal there ever on Mondays. You can get an array of amazing chicken sandwiches from a nice grilled chicken sandwich all the way up to a Chick-fil-A on steroids fried chicken breast with a somewhat hot chipotle sauce, cheese and hot peppers incredibly good they also have a Chicken turf sandwich which is a chicken breast with bacon absolutely delicious. The rolls are very good too. They're not overwhelming and on Tuesdays. I forgot to mention the chicken sandwiches are seven dollars Monday only and Tuesday is burger day and they are seven dollars. My favorite is their take on a big Mac Which is high quality Angus grass sirloin huge with shredded lettuce cheese and their big Mac sauce which is much better than McDonald's. The burgers are extremely high end it would be $20 -25 in Center city or more. I highly recommend this little local gem

Yelp
We were looking for some place to get a late lunch - so many other places that claimed to be open weren't - so we stopped in here on a lark, not knowing what to expect. It does have an almost raffish, dive-bar appearance, but is obviously a well-regarded neighborhood institution. The beer list was more than adequate, and although we certainly didn't expect it - the food was truly excellent. My Deputy Yelper pronounced the Turf Burger the best she's had. I took a chance on the Veggie Burger, with added cheese, and was quite pleased. The small sweet potato side-order rounded things out excellently. For beers, they had draft Yards Pale Ale and Warsteiner Octoberfest, and both pleased us greatly. Our server, who was also the bar tender, was very attentive, and is possessed of more than adequate conversational skills. She made us feel completely welcome as first-timers. Highly recommended. There were a few patrons at the bar at mid-afternoon, but I bet the place is mostly packed in the evening. Maybe aim for an early arrival?

Yelp
This place used to be our absolute FAVORITE. We had been many many times for drinks, trivia, wings and burgers. Our last visit we were enjoying some mozzarella sticks as our appetizer and saw a mouse running through the floor of the bar. My boyfriend didn't say anything to me at first and then we both saw it again running around. We ended up canceling our entrees, paying and leaving right away. I'm so sad because this was our local spot

Yelp
5 stars for this corner dive bar. Stoped by on a Saturday around 1 and wasn't sure if it was open. But the door was unlocked and it was much busier than I expected. A lot of people there watching the 76ers play. We opted to sit outside and our bartender/server took our order. My friend lives around the corner so we walked but there was some street parking nearby. We came her specifically for the burgers. I was told they were good and was happy when I saw "hand formed patty" right at the top of the burger section. We both ordered medium and got a side of fries and a couple cokes. The fries come with some special sauce, maybe a mix of mayo and ketchup with some other goodies, I'm not sure but it was good. The cokes were also great, plenty of syrup, sweet, cold, and delicious. The burgers came on nice buns and looked fabulous. The first bite was absolutely dreamy, perfect medium, gooey melty cheese, a little juice squeezing out. Totally exceeded my expectations, it was perfect finish to end. Really likes this place and can't wait to get back. Nice service, friendly patrons, and killer burgers! Check it out if you get a chance.

Yelp
This is my favorite watering hole in the whole wide world! I have been going here since I moved to Philly in 2011. Mike and his staff have always been nice. Great food (wings, burgers, tacos), beers, service, and overall environment. I still go here with my wife and friends to celebrate the important events in my life.

Yelp
Imagine an Irish dive bar with great food and a ton of personality! The turf burger really hit the spot with just enough spiciness. Went on a Tuesday ($5 burgers and trivia) and their quizzo was really popular! The guy running it was hilarious. Would go again just for the burger, but would stay for the games!

Ken N.

Yelp
Great fresh turkey club, fries, burgers etc. Service is fast and friendly. One of my favorite dive bars.

Dan R.

Yelp
Great local place. Feels like your neighborhood pub (because it is) and had the best wings in the city. I love living down the street from this place
google avatar

Yelp
For a local watering hole this place has amazing food and a well balanced draft lineup. From burgers, to wings, to fries, never disappoints. My personal favorite is the chicken sandwich! The staff is also local and just brings that home feelings to the experience. It's cash only but also has an ATM so be prepared when you order. From the wood paneling to the leg lamp that'll be having you recite "fragile-- must be Italian", you'll find yourself returning over and over again.

David S.

Yelp
The reviews are right! Great food, great beer, great service, great music. I got the burger with bacon jam and blue cheese. It was delicious. Washed it down with a Guinness as 90s music filled the air. Excellent.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night...ended up back here with all our friends for 50¢ wings the following Wednesday! Lovely dive bar, super kind wait staff and delicious food. We started out with wings - solid 8/10 wings coming from a buffalonian! Got an AMAZING turkey club with the best fresh turkey (not cold cut) and a chicken pesto sandwich. Can't recommend this place enough!!!

Yelp
Great local bar. Bartenders are always friendly and if you come here fairly often they will remember not only your name but your drink choice. Kate is always great and good to nice to catch up with. Prices are very good and you can drink here all night or for a while and not get a huge bill. Food is always solid and atmosphere is comfortable with an eclectic and diverse crowd from locals, college students to people stopping in after work day. Mike the owner is always friendly and connected to the locals and his regular customers. Quizzo is fun and can get pretty busy. During Covid they did a great job at take out and staying available to for business.

Kathleen E.

Yelp
Best burger I've had in a long time. It was one of those big, messy, delicious burgers that only a few places can manage to pull off. Hubs had the pig wings which were also yummy. Neither of us could have spicy tonight but the next time im here, im getting the wings.

Bob F.

Yelp
Good service. Great burgers at a fair price. Tuesday $5.00 burgers and fries special.
google avatar

Yelp
A dive bar that plays great 90's music, serves surprisingly good food (burgers and wings), and actually has an impressive beer selection is a national treasure. And make no mistake about it -- this is a dive bar complete with the usual array of locals, stained paper menus, gritty neighborhood, and, shall we say "understated" décor. But this is a happy bar with a happy bartender and I spent 4 joyous hours at Billy Murphy's on a Monday evening. In the words of Gen. MacArthur, "I shall return."
google avatar

YJ L.

Yelp
Dive bar alert The beers on tap are a nice list. Got the chipotle steak sandwich which was great. The pork wings are good but a bit salty

Jim C.

Yelp
Still knocking it out of the park. Great food and specials. sitting on the porch and watching the people parade is the best. An iconic friendly vibe. Solid drink and craft beer and local IPAs. Well worth repeated trips!

Chris F.

Yelp
I have been stopping in for many years. Great wings and sandwiches. Way better food than one would expect from a corner bar. The owner told me that a reputation for good food was important in East Falls. The turkey was thick cut and not just deli. I would recommend highly!
google avatar

Magnolia M.

Yelp
Great dive bar! Located on a discreet corner. Bill Murphy's is a neighborhood place! The fish tacos are my favorite from the menu. Sweet potato fries with a side of cinnamon sauce are a must. The only downside is the slow service for outside seating. Recommend heading over!
google avatar

Tammy M.

Yelp
Want to feel like you belong even if it isn't your hometown? Go to Billy Murphy's Irish Saloon. The staff is so friendly and happy to have you there. Even the others sitting at the bar greet you and make you feel at home. This is perhaps classified as a dive bar but any time that I am in East Falls, I am going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect place for a hefty American bar-food meal. My burger had a generous helping of beef and toppings with a good bun that wasn't overly greasy. Fries were fresh and tasty. Mine were slightly soggy but I blame that on the delivery. My order: Turf Burger, Handcut Fries, Sweet Potato Fries Service: Fast, no complaints
google avatar

nicole k.

Yelp
The food was good I ordered the tuff chicken sandwich and two drink all under $40 the drinks were good the food was better as it should be. The music was not to loud I could have a conversation if I would have come with someone. The service was good the bartender was attentive but they did not over due it. Very chill and laid back I will be returning.

Lesleh W.

Yelp
Billy Murphy's is the best! Good is excellent, wing night is my favorite and I love the atmosphere! Service is great! Love the rowing heme throughout so quintessentially Philly !
google avatar

Yelp
The best food and atmosphere! Enjoy a game, the jukebox and any of their menu specials. Mike and his team never disappoint!

Yelp
So I want to preface by saying I'm a sucker for a dive bar with good food and Billy Murphy's is exactly that. It's cash only so just beware of that before you go! My fiancé and I decided to visit one day after getting a recommendation from a friend. This is definitely the kind of place that has a lot of regulars but despite not being regulars, we felt welcome! The bartender was nice and very attentive to us. Also, the food was great. I highly recommend the buffalo chicken cheesesteak, it is so freaking good. The cheese curds were delicious as well. Billy Murphy's is the perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat and drinks in a comfortable setting, for a good price. You might see me there if you decide to go.

Christian B.

Yelp
WOW!! was going to see a concert at the man and decided to have a few pints of Guinness with my college friends. Cindy was the most amazing bartneder and recommend the burgers. when I tell you these were the best burgers I have ever had we are still talking about these burgers from last week. such a friendly crowd and just shooting the stuff with some locals. overall shared a moment with special people at a special place. Thank you for the experience looking forward to coming back!!

Matt Z.

Yelp
Murphy's was more inviting before they hung a thin blue line flag above the bar. I'll take my business somewhere else.
google avatar

Joann W.

Yelp
Had an amazing time here yesterday! The food was excellent only out done by the superior service by Kate. We stopped there for lunch with the whole family (ages 6 to 83) after a charity event and everyone had a great time! Additionally, the beer selection was top notch.
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
A hidden gem, the bartenders are really fun & make you feel like you are a regular. The roast pork is as good as any in Philly. Pig wings are a great meal and chicken wings are strong. Fun place to relax
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
I worked in East Falls for five years and frequented Murphy's plenty of lunch breaks. I always try something different on the menu but the Turf Burger is my favorite. I follow their social media and saw they created a Turf cheesesteak! I went that weekend and fell in love. Also, I like their sides and beer selections.

Dallas S.

Yelp
Murphy's is the best neighborhood bar. Full of lovely locals, staffed by lovely locals. They're turf cheesesteak is amazing and they have the best sweet potato fries of any place I've ever had.
google avatar

Jodie B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I live around the corner and I was craving wings. Plenty of outdoor seating on a quiet street. We happened to come on quizzo night, so that was extra entertainment right there! I got the frozen rose. It was definitely weird, but I kinda liked it! Not sweet at all. It was definitely just frozen rose. Haha. We got the hot wings and burgers for $5 burger night. I thought the sauce was a touch too sweet, but the wings were crispy and otherwise very delicious. I wasn't expecting to order a burger but I figured might as well-- turns out it was one of the best burgers I've eaten in years. Super juicy and seasoned perfectly. I'll be back next week. Cash only. They give you the food in take out wrapping even if you're sitting at a table due to COVID, but that's fine with me.
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie, when people invited me to this place I was not excited. I had never heard about it and it sounded/looked below average. However, I was surprised with a great experience. I got the fish tacos and they were solid. The thing I loved the most was the sweet potato fries and whatever dip the gave. It was the perfect combination! The only annoying thing about this place is that it's cash only. And on top of that their ATM machine was janky. Last but not least they had tv's all around to watch sports so that's always a plus. So grab some cash and friends and check it out.
google avatar

Trey F.

Yelp
Man... I was not expecting much out of this dive bar but boy was I wrong. I got an order of the mild-a-que pig wings. These come as an order of very meaty pig shank that are oven baked and then flash fried. The mild-a-que sauce was very good and flavorful. The meat on the bones was very tender and moist with a very light crisp as you bite into them. My fiancé also got the crab cake salad which was also very surprising. This crab cake reminded me of the crab cakes you get down in Maryland around the Chesapeake but are somehow in a small dive bar in Roxborough. Needless to say we will be back!!
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Earth-shatteringly good "turf" burger. The turf burger came on a thin, soft, and chewy brioche bun that yielded nicely to the beef. The beef patty was gargatuan in size (likely 8-10oz) and cooked to a perfect medium. I'd wager the meat was slightly on the lean side (I'd add maybe 5 percentage points of fat.) However, the beef tasted fresh and had a dense, but still crumbly and juicy, mouthfeel. The toppings were an explosive heap of flavors. There were crisp julienned onion strings that were savoury and slightly caramelized. There was lightly crunchy bacon that still had a bit of chew. There was deeply savoury and salty yellow American cheese (this is the only context where I think American is an appropriate choice.) There were lightly pickled and lightly charred jalapeño coins. Oozing over all these toppings was a creamy, goopy, flavor bomb of burger sauce (something like thosand island dressing). This burger was a perfect concatenation of flavors and textures. The soft and delicate bun. The crisp onions. The savoury and sweet dressing swimming with melted American cheese. The bite of the jalapeños crying through the fats. The oozy, juicy burger dripping jus as you caressed it between your lips. There are few things more enjoyable than discovering an excellent burger.

Yelp
Cold beer and goid pub grub. A match made in heaven. Guiness on tap with a great selection of craft beers to boot.
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
Super chill local bar in East Falls. I would compare it to something like Cheers. Everyone is friendly- the bartender is social and chats it up with the patrons. I felt very at home here, by myself looking to have some dinner and a few beers. The $5 Chicken sandwich special they were running that night was phenomenal. You have 4 options to which you can choose to prepare your sandwich. I chose the Italian Style Chicken Wrap which was tender, juicy chicken with peppers and I believe provolone... all melted together to make an F'n awesome combination. I would suggest checking this spot out when you want to stay near home and grab a cheap bite and some good brews. I can't stress enough that this is a CASH ONLY establishment! (They do have an atm)

Mike C.

Yelp
I recently moved to this area and this bar has been by far my favorite. The bartenders are great, the food is exceptional and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. I can't recommend enough....I now go a few times a week.
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
This is the first place we went in Philly and I'm not sure anywhere has knocked it from the top of the list. When we lived down the street, it became an extension of our living room. Turkey special will hopefully return sometime soon! All this typing makes me think its time to go to Murph's.
google avatar

Yelp
3 words: neighborhood dive bar. If you know what to expect, you will be satisfied! They have decent food, beer selection, and friendly service. We decided to go on a Friday night right before a flyers playoff game. We walked in and were greeted by the bartender. He said to pick any table, so we did. There were only 2 other tables occupied at the time, so we picked a seat by the window. We were promptly provided with menus and placed drink orders. Now, for the food: for an appetizer, we got the pig wings. They have a variety of different sauces to choose from, but we went with the spicy barbecue hot sauce and it was really tasty with the perfect amount of heat. For our meals we each got a burger since that is sort of what they are known for. My husband got the turf burger and I got the last burger listed on the menu (forget the name). The burgers were delicious, especially the pickles! Overall, we would go back! The service is a very neighborhood feel.

Olivia B.

Yelp
Really unassuming, small neighborhood bar. No frills, very relaxed atmosphere. Small menu of standard bar-food type dishes, but everything is done really well. 10/10 for execution - not your standard bar slop, AND everything is very reasonably priced. The chef is awesome and clearly takes great pride in the food they put out. My partner and I have been here twice and tried a few different dishes between us - - a burger, cheesesteak, pork sandwich (spicy, but delectable), And the kicker? Their veggie burger is made from scratch and absolutely delicious. I didn't expect that. To boot, they make a mean Manhattan. We will be back!
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
A great neighborhood bar! There food is excellent, and most things are homemade. The wings are excellent, and the fried chicken sandwich is hand battered and fried. There are always some colorful locals in here to enjoy a beer with. This is a family business, with a lot of pride and it shows. This is a stop when I am in the area, because there is no place better to grab lunch. I very much enjoy the roast beef club sandwich and homemade potato salad. I highly recommend it. It is a true gathering place for old and new friends.
google avatar

Gina-Marie I.

Yelp
One of our all time favorite places, we dream of the day when we can go back in a sit!

Yelp
Shoooo. Been to this place twice now. Heard about the fried chicken sandwich through the grapevine. This fried chicken sandwich is absolutely unbelievable. Hand breaded. It was enormous had to be at least a 10 oz filet. Delicious, fresh roll which is important. You wouldn't believe how many restaurants take their rolls/buns for granted. Pickles, coleslaw, spicy aoli (got it on the side) were perfect toppings. Hand cut fries. A++. 5 stars. Dane the bartender is the man. I'll Be back. Well done bill murphys.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
This place is the sh#t. Pig wings... Why do chicken wings even exist? Awesome, old place. My long ago deceased grandfather lived in East Falls. I like to think he went here after a long day of work. I'll never know but we all live around the shadows of the past in a way don't we? I very much don't live in East Falls but I go out of my way to come here. Great neighborhood. Go here, make a day of it. Walk up the Schuylkill, go to Laurel Hill cemetery then go to Billy Murphy's for beer and pig wiiiiiiiiiings.
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
Great place in East Falls! The sweet potato fries are amazing with the honey cinnamon dipping sauce they give you. The outdoor seating is small, but usually not hard to get a seat. There's plenty of street parking around so it's not a hard location to get to!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Food: 4.5 Decor: 3.5 Ambiance: 4.5 Service: 4 Value: 4 Great neighborhood spot! It is definitely a little off the beaten path, but the burgers here are legitimately good, and priced well. We'll definitely be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Billy Murphy's is a nice little jem hidden away I in East falls. It's a cozy bar inside with a excellent rotating craft beers on tap, with your classic hits as well. The burgers are amazing, made in house! High recommend coming here if upur looking for a cozy spot to down some pints and grab a bite to eat.

Yelp
It was a delightful experience at the Billy Murphy's Irish Saloon. Despite the location, the rates weren't outrageous. Billy Murphy's Irish Saloon has an incredible menu, Fish Tacos was absolutely magnificent. The crew is definitely a highlight of this place because they are always quick, polite, and provide service with a smile! You won't be sorry.

Yelp
Was looking for a good cheesesteak close to my place, found this place and no doubt was one of the better cheesesteaks I've ever had, up there with, or better than Jim's,, bread was super soft,, huge portions and the meat was so good and so tasty, very good beer selection, had to be patient as the bartender was serving the entire restaurant, but dude was cool and did a great job, would come back here for sure
