Yankee Tavern In the Bronx Is the Place to Be on Game Day | Eater NY

"Under the elevated train tracks, crowds spilling from bars into the street mixed with commuters, and from the sports nightclub Billy’s I could hear the dancehall thumper “Dat Sexy Body” by Sasha cutting through the noise while intermittent chants of “Let’s Go Yankees” signaled that ticketless fans from around the city had gathered there as is custom." - Mike Diago

This was my first time eating at Billy's Inn and I was not disappointed! I will be back soon because they have so many delicious items on their menu that I have got to try. This visit I ordered the steak & fries. Everything was delicious! The temp of the steak was on point. The truffle fries were amazing. Even the basic arugula salad it welcome with was tasty.

We love Billy’s Inn. It was my third time dining here and Billy’s never disappoints. It was hot yesterday and we sat on the covered patio with the misters cooling us off, very refreshing. I had the Chicken Quesadilla and my daughter had the Buffalo Wrap, both delicious. The servers are always professional and very friendly. Billy’s never disappoints. We will be back😁

The fish taco was phenomenal!! Drinks were amazing!! The staff were so nice!! Definitely my first stop next time I’m in town!

Google
Excellent food and mellow atmosphere for lunch. But, I am especially thankful for our waitperson today. They were so patient with my elderly dad, who has cognitive issues & gets overwhelmed reading things like a menu & making choices. The short, flat walk from the parking lot was also nice for his mobility issues. I'm so glad we happened to stop here! Thank you for being an accommodating place for people with disabilities. We really appreciate it!

Google
Trying this place for my first time, I was pretty disappointed in the food unfortunately. My burger came out wrong and all of the food was seriously lacking flavor. I ordered the bacon & cheese stuffed burger but unfortunately they gave me a regular burger, which I ended up eating. That was the first disappointment. The burger had one slice of cheese and 2 pieces of bacon that didn't have much of a flavor, the burger overall was seriously lacking flavor. One slice of cheese on a burger that thick is not enough. The burger wasn't seasoned, the whole thing was flavorless. On top of that the waitress did not correct the price when I told them of the discrepancy, nor did they ask to fix the incorrect food. I was excited seeing shoestring fries, but unfortunately they were lacking as well. The fries weren't crispy and just room temp. We also had the slow roasted pork torta, it was alright. The guacamole was good, the pork seemed to be lacking some flavor, as it took time to actually tatse it. The jus that came with it had a kick to it. The tortilla chips are flour and have been salted. The salsa was average. Service was seriously lacking, with just one person for wait staff. They never came around to ask about food or anything. We had to flag them down. Beyond that the interior is nice and it seems like a nice little spot. I wish I had a better experience.

Google
5/5 Stars: A True Neighborhood Gem! Billy's Inn is our absolute favorite spot. It's our go-to place for happy hour, releasing the day, and having a good laugh. The atmosphere is always welcoming and fun. A huge shout-out to the incredible staff—Mary, Daniel, and all the other unsung heroes. They are consistently wonderful and make every visit special. We also love that our dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio, which is a big plus for us and our Golden Retrievers, Maui and Kona. And of course, the food is always delicious! Lisa and Todd

Google
Billy's is one of the most consistently good establishments in Denver! I've been going here for over 10 years and the food is always fantastic and the atmosphere and staff are always the same - welcoming and amazing. My faves: elite, burgers, salads

Google
I have been here twice and it's the perfect little/cozy joint to grab a margarita and some Latin infused food. We always sit at the bar for the full bar/bartender interaction experience. They have an excellent selection of tequilas and the vibe is chill. I will probably be back when in Denver. I wish google would allow us to add 4 1/2 star ratings because for me this place falls somewhere in the middle of a 4 and a 5.

Yelp
Where do I start... everything is amazing. Service.. food.. vibe... you name it. I had the B.O.M.B. Burger, wife had the half chicken. F...ing awesome.
google avatar

Morgan H.

Yelp
We came here for a quick couple of drinks. We sat out on the patio which was a vibe! It was nice to have the fans misting us on a hot day but it did leave the table pretty wet. I would not order food if you sat there. We got the strawberry margarita and a jalapeño margarita. The strawberry margarita was average but we did not like the jalapeño marg. They used pickled jalapeños which was a weird taste in the drink. We were expecting fresh ones. The margs were also $10 each for a tiny glass filled with ice. Overall we were not very impressed with the drinks especially for them being known for their tequila selection. Maybe our rating would be a little bit better if we ordered food.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
The food and margs are great! Service is pretty slow but this place is really, really loud. I have no idea why it's so loud, so expect that if you're going out in a group. Shout out for the spicy deviled eggs and the tortilla chips. Yum!

Yelp
Came here as a rec from a friend. Started with queso which was served in a cast iron pan and piping hot, cheesy. Got a couple different tacos include queso birria and carne asada. The tacos are a decent size and it was filling. My friend also enjoyed his quesadillas. Service was good. Decent food and prices for the area.

Yelp
Billy's Inn is a historic watering hole and restaurant in the Berkeley neighborhood. Established way back in 1933, you can expect a consistent experience when you come here. We got together with a large group, 10 of us, and were sat on the patio with their largest table. The patio is completely covered and they do have heaters. They serve Baja-style Mexican food, burgers and sandwiches, weekend brunch, and boast a substantial tequila list and happy hour. Original Margaritas at happy hour are $6.50. Yes please sign me the heck up. These were great, so much so I ordered two. Definitely a must at Billy's. We ordered A LOT of appetizers for the table. Honestly some of them were just okay/nothing special, however I wanted to call out the chips and salsa. Simple yet delicious. Crispy chips and salsa with tons of flavor. Chicken Enchiladas ($19) // Three corn tortillas, chile de arbol roasted chicken, billy's cheese, enchilada sauce, shredded lettuce, diced onion, pico de gallo, crema, guacamole, cilantro lime rice, black beans. Get in my belly! I love me some enchiladas and these filled me up and satisfied me. I thought the accompanying rice and beans were delicious too. A massive plate of food for what you pay for. Friendly service, good food, strong drinks, and neighborhood vibes. I don't think you'll be blown away, but this is the type of reliable spot everyone wants near them. Almost 100 years in business, clearly they know what they're doing. Billy's Inn for the win!

Yelp
**Update** We made a big mistake coming back here after several years. The service we received today was absolutely horrendous along with the terrible food. Do not eat here. There are better places in Denver.
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
I stopped by on a Monday evening for food and drinks! Luckily it was all day happy hour so we got some great deals on delicious tacos, potato skins and wine. I felt the food came out in a timely manner, was warm and very delicious! We sat on the patio and it was enjoyable, not too hot or anything since it's covered. Our server was friendly and prompt. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Have passed this restaurant for years thinking it was a bar. Finally stopped in on a Friday night with family. Expansive menu with great tasty options reasonably priced will definitely be back!

Jake W.

Yelp
The food is always great. My favorites are the smash burger tacos and the carne asada torta. I've never had a bad meal here. It's a chill neighborhood spot.

Yelp
We've know about Billy's Inn for a while, so we finally decided to try it on Sunday. I was a little disappointed that we had to order off the brunch menu, but still plenty of options. Service - 3.75 stars , so will round up to 4. We sat down a waitress took our drink order, but didn't come back. It took other waitresses to talk between themselves to see who had our table. After that service was good. Food: I think this restaurant leans more on the Mexican side, so to charge for chips and salsa I was a little shocked to see, but the chips were really good. The big burrito salad was good, but wished it had a dressing for it. I added salsa to it. I would order this again, but then again would like to try other things on the regular menu. The restaurant was really clean and you had a choice to dine indoors or outdoors.

Yelp
We snagged the kids and headed to Billy's for lunch one day. There is something for everyone on their menu. They have parking on the perimeter of the building, but there is more across the street at Safeway. There is indoor seating as well as patio space. The staff was welcoming and answered all our questions. It was a late lunch during the week so not crazy crowded. There was background sound, but we were able to carry on a conversation with no issue. My daughter ordered the Elote, a spice roasted corn with cotija, tajin, mayo, cilantro and tortilla chips. She was happy. Corn is one of her favorites. My son decided a Reuben was just the thing. It had corned beef piled high with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, chipotle aioli (a nice addition) all on toasted marble rye. It came with fries. he had enough to bring some home for later. A Buffalo Chicken Wrap was the perfect choice for my husband. He loves all the flavors. This wrap has chicken nuggets, Louisiana Red Hot Sauce, romaine lettuce, cheese, and blue cheese dressing all inside a warm tortilla. He chose to have slaw for his side and raved about the dressing. Me? I love dressed up fries. I saw the Carne Asada fries and it was a done deal. The crispy fries were topped with marinated carne asada, cheese, nacho cheese, crema, pico de gallo, green onion and guacamole. It had a myriad of flavors in every bite. I would order this again without question. The whole fam loved their meals, so this one will warrant a return trip.

Yelp
As usual, friendly staff and great drink specials ( we had the beer and tequila shot for $10). My chicken tenders and fries were good but the fry portion seemed chintzy...if the portion was correct it should have been served on a small plate to make it look full. My husband had the bomb burger and onion rings. His burger was good but a little too busy for me. The onion rings stole the show for sure. The best part of the visit was that they were playing the live action version of The Lion King because it kept our son entertained throughout the meal....and our second round (Billy's has really good margaritas).

Yelp
Always love coming here! Brought my family recently while they were visiting. Everyone has varying tastes and they were all able to find something they enjoyed. I love the feel of it being a neighborhood joint too. The service is always great too.

Yelp
Billys Inn is fantastic, I've been here many times with friends and it really does not disappoint. Has a bit of a mexican flair to the menu, which I appreciate and we've been here for happy hour and also for brunch during the weekends. While some might chide them for not having bottomless mimosas, it's just an item of note, not really a deal breaker. We have always had excellent service on our visits here too! Great Neighborhood Bar / Restaurant, well worth a visit! Take note of this Happy Hour, it's fantastic! ALL DAY MONDAY! Tuesday thru Friday - 3pm to 6pm & 9pm to close Saturday & Sunday - 9pm to close Food - Deviled Eggs | 5.00 Basket Fries | 5.00 Tater Tots | 6.00 Sweet Potato Fries | 6.00. Basket Onion Rings | 6.00 Billy's Nachos Deluxe | 7.00 Carne Asada Fries | 7.00 Billy's Awesome Wings | 7.00

Yelp
While waiting for a table at Ginger Pig, I walked catty corner to Billy's Inn, which I drive by ALL the time but have never been! I plopped myself down on the one open seat at the bar and enjoyed a cold beer. Seems like a bunch of locals that come here. When my partner joined, we shared elote as an appetizer. Was decent, and I'd come back out of convenience to try more of the food. Customer service was alright as well!
google avatar

Kristie C.

Yelp
I came here for brunch with a group of friends, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu. And this place isn't going to be 5 stars for everyone, but my personal rating would be a 5/5 for what it is: good, hearty diner-style food. The bacon was cooked exactly how I like it best: super crispy, on the verge of burning, with a sweet glaze (this is not everybody's preferred style though. My friend didn't finish her bacon). I absolutely love deviled eggs, and the staff was nice enough to let me substitute the traditionally styled two eggs (scrambled, fried, etc) that normally come with the breakfast plate for deviled eggs. Two people within my group got the breakfast burrito and they were massive portions. Double Mimosas were $5. Don't come here expecting a trendy, artisan brunch. This is comfort food at a great value, and I'd come back again just for the bacon and deviled eggs alone. Parking: they have their own lot.

Yelp
Always a great place to go. Brunch is awesome, including the Borracho Bowl. Also had their homemade limeade. Their Big Burrito Salad with Mahi is my go to. Great indoor outdoor seating and the service is always spot on. One of our favorite places to go. Food is tasty and it's and easy place to go.

Yelp
Neighborhood rustic cantina with delicious food selections beyond standard bar fare. Homemade soup, birria de chivo tacos, and peach pie are among our favorites. Service is always friendly and attentive. Facility cleanliness is excellent.
google avatar

Aleah V.

Yelp
Five stars ALL DAY! Great staff especially. They seem to all really get along and make this cozy bar so welcoming. I enjoy going for happy hour because they have the best deals. $6.50 for a house margarita and it's strong too. Monday is happy hour all day long. The food here is Mexican/American. You could have tacos or wings and a burger. All of it is so good. I was most impressed with the queso fundido from the appetizer menu. What a treat. Don't let the parking turn you away from this place. It's a small lot but there is some street parking available nearby. Located right on the corner of 44th and Lowell this place is hard to miss!

Emily M.

Yelp
What is so amazing, is the half chicken dish (can't remember the name)! I also truly enjoyed the jalapeña Rita:) Dan was an excellent server!!
google avatar

Annette T.

Yelp
Cool little pub. Basically burgers, sandwiches, and Mexican. I had the Marinated Guajillo Carne Asada Torta and the meat was nice and tender. It came with a little pot of warm salsa (not sure what kind but it was good) and some chips. I also got a Coors banquet for only $4! Good place to meet up for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Mattie L.

Yelp
We ordered Billy's Classic Burger* | 15.00 Choice of cheddar, Swiss, provolone, pepper jack or bleu cheese (jalapeño cream cheese add .50). I had the Swiss cheese and my daughter had the provolone cheese on hers. The burgers had a toasted bun that was really delicious! Billy's burgers are made from fresh ground chuck, cooked medium, and served on a brioche bun with your choice of fries, home-made potato chips, or Baja slaw. We had the fries which came out hot but were more like heated fries that you really can't chew. The service was really good. But the fries made me wish I had gotten the home-made potato chips. Three stars.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
We went for happy hour, 3-6 Tuesday thru Friday! Could walk right in and seat yourself but was much more crowded than I expected for a Wednesday at 5. The service was quick and barely waited for our food. Their happy hour deals are great and almost feel like "pre-inflation" costs. I got the strawberry margarita and was bloooown away. You can taste that there are real strawberries in there. We got the happy hour deviled eggs and nachos and were pleasantly surprised to how much food we got for the price. Also each got a pork taco and the Baja crispy fish. The tacos were nothing special and would probably test out something else the next time I went. The pork taco was the better of the two. Overall, I would totally come back here for a nice, relaxed dinner or happy hour!
google avatar

Tammi M.

Yelp
I only give this place three stars because of the service. Our food was legit basic. I had the bomb burger and I felt like the mushrooms and onions came off the side that they were gonna throw away, but didn't throw away. If you're just going to watch a game and don't care about the food clearly this is your spot, especially based on conversations I heard other tables beverages are the priority
google avatar

Nic C.

Yelp
If you're interested in eating with a bunch of middle-aged middle class pretentious people whom all brought their kids this is your place. The food is good though.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
The food, the ambience and the service were fantastic. I had the breakfast enchiladas something different than I've ever had and they were really really good. Highly recommend. I had Coors Light with bloody Mary mix and a salted rim so good.
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
So I've been to Billy's before. It seems a little bit has changed since I've been here last though. Which is fine times change but usually when I come here I get a burger and they're usually on point tonight. I'm gonna give these guys 4 1/2 stars just because the service was not that good the burger definitely was not the best I ever had since I've been coming here and the onion rings were definitely seemed like they were premade and then refried because they were way way overcooked, but other than that the service was phenomenal the waitress I did not catch her name, but she was always on top of it and the ambience is always amazing. I like the vibe in here I was still come back, but definitely don't know if I still get a burger again which is a bummer because they usually had the best burgers around in my opinion.
google avatar

Terry I.

Yelp
Billy's is a nice neighborhood spot that has been updated and renovated. Our service was good and friendly. We tried various variations of their tacos (steak, chicken, crispy fish, veggie) with beans and rice. The flavors were mild and simple. The beans and rice were just plain, no spice or flavor profiles. We will try it again but will order something different with the hope it has more flavor.
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
The skinny: Unassuming spot with good food. Perfect for a relaxing dinner and beer. I didn't have high expectations for this spot. I figured it would be just like any other bar with okay food. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I had fried fish taco, avocado taco, rice and beans. And it was all amazing. It's become my go to order when I come out this way and a perfect post workout meal. They don't have too much in terms of the tap but they have all your basics. Cocktails are ok. Overall the service is friendly and the spot is perfect for a relaxing hangout with surprisingly good food and a beer. The food is priced decently and the portions are filling. Would I come back? Yes and do so often for tacos and beer!
google avatar

Lance L.

Yelp
Already an institution but they just seem to be getting better and better. Was actually sad they didn't serve the grilled salmon salad on their menu so we had the fish tacos and pozole.... Man. It sure hit the spot! Probably one of the best because of the fresh ingredients they are known to have always used. Fish almost sweet because of freshness and probably better pozole than the Michelin bib gourmand mentioned in the same area. I'm glad they're here, and they have always kept abreast with the times, menus are changing and it seems they mail it every single time!!! Will be coming back. And we will be bringing friends for Sure.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Food was overpriced for what it was ( a burrito of French fries) especially considering the 6% kitchen support charge.... An additional $4.60! So, actually paying 6% support fee on drinks too? When I'm tipping as well???? ‍ Service was less than!!! I was given my wine in a glass that had lipstick surrounding the rim of the glass, it was replaced by someone that actually paid attention to us... not our server. Disappointing to say the least. Unfortunately, it was my suggestion to go there for lunch and felt bad it was an all around disappointment.
google avatar

Dale Z.

Yelp
Whether for brunch, a burger, or a late night bite with a beer, I always find something to like at Billy's. The Billy's Classic Burger (served with choice of cheddar, Swiss, provolone, pepper jack or bleu cheese) is tasty. I typically will opt for the minor up-charge and get it with jalapeño cream cheese. If you are looking for a hearty app to share, check out the Carne Asada Fries (topped with marinated carne asada, Billy's cheese, nacho cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, green onions, and guacamole). I would suggest adding a side of the homemade green chile.
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Billy's Inn has been in the North Denver neighborhood since 1933. I came across this restaurant on the Denver Dining app, so we decided to try it for dinner. They have an expansive menu from breakfast to dinner. To start we got the chips and salsa; the chips and salsa are fresh and appeared to be made in house. We also got the carne asada fries and California burrito plate. Even though the carne asada fries are listed as an appetizer, it is a very large portion where you can make it your own entree or shareable with 4+ people. The California burrito was also very large and generously topped with pork green chile! The flavors of the green chile were fantastic. I think the food was great, service was great, and definitely great value for the generous portion sizes. I would definitely be back!
google avatar

Keith N.

Yelp
The margaritas were great. Not the best I have had but still tasty. I ordered the California burrito which was amazing. This burrito is huge so come hungry- I couldn't even finish it which is saying a lot.

Paul D.

Yelp
Food is ok but at times flavorless! Menu is same ol same ol for a long long time! Staff usually friendly! Drinks are great! Very noisy! I would return more often if the menu was updated
google avatar

Daphne B.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Billy's! I have never had a bad meal here, the service is always stellar, prices and portions are great always toooo much food. Billy's has been my go to place when I had clients or someone in town that I wanted to take for a great casual meal. If you find yourself at Billy's and can't decide on what to get, try "The Skippy"; it's amazing!!

Scott F.

Yelp
Always a favorite. Great burgers & tacos, great tequila list, good beer. Great ambiance whether you want to watch the game or have a conversation or just eat your food in peace.

Madeline H.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Reasonably priced and friendly service. Breakfast enchiladas are my favorite!
google avatar

Gina O.

Yelp
I love a place that picks a lane then exceeds all expectations with quality and unique takes on dishes and drinks! This is my second time and the staff, food and drinks did not disappoint. Had a very cold Dos Equis Amber, fried fish taco, wings, nachos fundido, and the best ever shishito peppers with spicy ranch! Looking forward to this again. Oh and Billy's green sangrita is the bomb! Every thing was fresh, hot and tasty. But let me not forget to comment on the service... the bartender has a memory that is the envy of any wait staff! He never wrote down a thing and everything to include drinks arrived as ordered! He was friendly, very personable and extremely well versed in everything food or drink related!
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
I love Billy's! Great neighborhood spot The food is delicious, drinks are good and the service is always friendly.

Jenna L.

Yelp
I hate to say it but the last few times we have come here we felt like they are watering their liquor down or something. We were celebrating a birthday and had 5 flights of tequila between 3 of us. 15 shots plus two mixed drinks for me and my friend. We ordered appetizers of wings and queso fundido. We left 1.5 hours later as sober as we walked in. It's not like we wanted to be trashed but for $250 in alcohol....we did the math .
google avatar

CO C.

Yelp
We went here for dinner before a show. We wanted to love the place but it was just ok. The queso fundido looked fabulous but was oddly tasteless. The pork tacos were good but the burrito bowl salad had something in it that was very bitter. Every bite was so bitter that I gave up eating it. The margaritas were just ok too. They also add a service fee onto your bill without letting you know ahead of time. Glad we tried it but we won't be back.

Debbie B.

Yelp
I've been patronizing Billy's Inn for over 30 years. It started out as a neighborhood dive bar and I would go for steaks. Now it's more of a neighborhood hipster place. Everything I've ever ordered has been top notch and I would really like to recognize the overall consistency I've experienced. I have to give a shout out to the roasted chicken salad. For some reason, I can't get enough of that item...delicious!
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Always have a great time, delicious drinks, and yummy food when we come here. Great to see the addition of more outdoor seating. The atmosphere and servers are also casual-just a fun neighborhood joint!

Yelp
Bummer ...... $12 Breakfast Burrito $13 Chicken and waffles And the portion size had shrunk by at least 1/4 TOTAL BILL $50.00 4 Separate lines of Denver Tax And a 21% FEE -- Had no idea about the "Fee" until our bill was dropped off. Asked the waitress about it and was told that " livable wage " also she was telling us that the wait staff feels cheated out of the "tips" but of course they still put at the bottom of the bill what percentage that you call still tip ... I have been going to Billy's for 25+ years Last Saturday was our last visit.

Grace L.

Yelp
The food was good overall my families burgers were good, I found a piece of hair in my tacos and when I brought it up to our waiter she looked confused but took it off our tab which was nice of her. But at the end when we tipped, the sever looked pissed at the tip we gave him but they have to understand costumers tip off of the costumer service and it wasn't that good.
google avatar

Audrey N.

Yelp
What a great hidden gem! My sister who lives in Colorado took me. It was very cute snd eclectic inside. The food was excellent. I had mahi and shrimp tacos with cilantro rice and my sister ordered an avocado melt with a huge order of onion rings. Fast service. Our server, Chad, was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend stopping in for lunch. It's great!!
google avatar

Todd L.

Yelp
THIS PLACE CHARGES A 21% SURCHARGE that is not your servers tip. It goes to food costs and is dispersed amongst all employees regardless of their job. Our server was clear that extra was not required but that servers don't see much of the surcharge and it was not a regular server tip. We were not notified of any of it until I asked about our bill. MANAGEMENT: This is deception and makes people not want to return to your restaurants. Raise your menu prices and pay your employees a correct wage, like any other responsible business does. The server said that this policy is horrible for waitstaff and customers as servers either get left with minuscule tips (due to splitting with back of house) or the customer is pissed off that they need to cover the gap due to the policy. This used to be a neighborhood restaurant and now it's a scam with mediocre food run by a restaurant investment group. There are 100's of other places in the neighborhood that deserve your money more than a place like this that is hiding bad policy and management from their customers through huge fees that they try to make you think are your servers tip. If you go here, expect to either pay 41% in total "tips" or you'll be leaving your server short changed. After 41% fees and tip we paid $75 for mediocre food for 2 adults and a kid and didn't even order drinks. For that money, you could get food that's really good at most other places in the neighborhood. Edit: Kristin, thanks for the copy/paste response that you used on the other reviews. There was no card on the table unless it was under or behind something making it invisible. Also, the math doesn't work out. If a server usually makes ~20% in tips, they'd take home all of that at a normal place. If you take 21% and split it across roles, you just underpaid your server. Trust me, they're more disgruntled than I am. The fact that I paid 41% in service fees proves that you actually don't care about your customers. If you did, you would have offered to refund the service fee.

Yelp
Met up with my good friend Beth who frequents this place so we knew it would be good. I will share that the menu has a lot of Mexican food, they are known for their tacos. I had the mahi mahi tacos and C had a burger. Both were good. They also have Tater Tots!!
