Google
The food was pretty good. Would have loved a baked potato instead of mashed though. The ambience sucks. It was too dark to read the menu. I had to use a light on my phone. Kinda loud too. A little over priced for what you get in my opinion, but seems to be par for the area. Would definitely go back.

Google
Amazing food!! The Billy's BBQ sauce was absolutely divine. I got the smoke house burger with a side of fries not expecting too much. I asked for a medium rare and they delivered!!! 🔥🔥 The service was prompt and courteous. Great waiters and front of house employees. Caesar salad dressing was light, tangy and delicious. I only found the mirror wall to be a bit tacky but that's personal preference.

Average food with great service, decor could do with an update. We had just left the hatch after a terrible experience and so were very happy with Krista’s bright and bubbly service 🥰 Food was just ok. I had the pork chop and my husband the rib eye. My pork chop was moist and side well cooked, it just lacked a depth in flavor. My husbands rib eye was flattened and spiced, which was not to his taste. We both shared the crème brûlée for dessert which was very good, really liked the addition of fresh fruit and cream 💗 Decor was incredibly old and seats not that comfortable- could definitely do with an update.

Google
Good food, good service, good Sunday brunch menu and had a great view of the passerby’s coming in after a graduation. The pimento on the stuffed fried tomato stack was very flavorful. Our group also enjoyed the French toast, chicken and biscuits, steak and eggs, and the Bloody Mary bar. There were numerous separate dining areas that help to keep the noise level to a minimum. Street parking was non existent but the garage wasn’t too far away.

Google
The food is always great! The presentation is awesome! The service is consistently friendly and professional. Parking is ridiculous since it's downtown which is why I'm giving 4 stars. Once you actually get into the restaurant, you're in for a treat.

Google
We had a very nice experience at Billy's! We were celebrating our 30 th anniversary.. ..they treated us very well and they were very professional. We had the great Strawberry salad.. and crab cake appetizer.

Google
Outstanding crab cakes — best outside Maryland Ate at Billy’s and had one of the best crab cake experiences I’ve had anywhere. The crab cakes are absolutely phenomenal — packed with jumbo lump crab, minimal filler, perfectly seasoned, and cooked beautifully. Moist, rich, and letting the crab shine. Honestly, the best crab cakes I’ve had outside of Maryland, and better than many I’ve had in Maryland. Also had the Chilean sea bass and a local Virginia wine — everything was excellent — but the crab cakes stole the show. If you’re even considering them, order them. Worth every bite. We’ll definitely be back.

Google
I absolutely love this restaurant! The food was amazing and the service was excellent. I started with the wedge salad, then enjoyed the filet with potatoes and asparagus. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly! I don't live in the area but whenever I am back I'm definitely eating here again!

Yelp
First of all, I'm not sure if there's an event in the room past the wine vault but it is very noisy. Otherwise I would describe the vibe as lively. It's a lovely space. My glass of Sauvignon Blanc was fine, RRR really enjoyed his old fashioned. We've been eating lots of food so we split several dishes. First, the fried oysters, one dozen of them, with two sauces and all of that was delicious. We followed by splitting their shrimp and grits, perfect for us and a wonderful creamy choice. We didn't try much of their menu but the two dishes we did have were wonderful.

Yelp
Upscale dining in a relax atmosphere. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with selections. Beautiful setting and was able to fit us in without reservations but I would suggest getting one. The food was awesome. My short rib dish was perfect and super tender. Pork chop was done as requested. Overall, nice evening out and great food.

Yelp
Been here before and this was the worse service ever. No bread brought to table, waitress only came to table maybe a total of 5 times. We tried to order drinks but the food arrived before the drink was ever delivered. So we canceled the wine and beer. Manager tried to discount the total bill however when charges came through they were more than the signed receipt. I used to recommend this restaurant however I doubt I will now.

Yelp
On May 23, 2012 Billy's, as we know it today, re-opened after extensive renovations. For this reason this year Billy's is celebrating its 13th Anniversary. Ever since I moved to Roanoke and ate at Billy's for the very first time, it has been my favorite restaurant. Not only to dine on special occasions, but my philosophy has been that you can make any day special by dining at Billy's. Then why did I only give it 4 Stars on my last visit and review. I invite you to go back and read this review and view my photographs that accompany this review. I consider it one of my best reviews of a restaurant I have always loved in good times as well as in hard times. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. I made my reservation through Open Table requesting a table for four located in a bright area of the restaurant. Since it was for 6:15pm, I knew that at this early time, taking up a table for four would not be an inconvenience for the restaurant since it would not be full. The management was kind enough to assign me table 24, located in the center area next to the front window facing the historic Roanoke City Market Building; and when I arrived, the Host warmly greeted me and graciously escorted me to this table. However, when my server Steve found out that I would only be the one seated at that table, he almost drew a fit and asked me why I was seated at a table for four (being selfish and only thinking of his tip). I quickly answered back with: "I requested this table." He then went directly to the Host's station to speak with one of the managers at hand. And when he found out that I was writing a review of my dining experience at this restaurant, he immediately changed his attitude towards me and me being his customer at his table for four. My server Steve was very knowledgeable and did an excellent presentation of the specials of the day, the items on the menu, how I could add a lobster tail to a steak and make it a Surf and Turf. In fact, you can say he was a Master salesman, but what he didn't realize was that I not only had taught the Salesmanship course in a college years ago, but I had been the Business & Economics Division Head of the college years ago. He took my order. To start off with, I ordered a Raspberry Basil Mocktail and a 3 Bacon wrapped Scallops appetizer. My server pointed out that each scallop was $13. I gave him a look like for me an excellent dining experience was priceless, and he didn't need to be pointing out the prices of my order. Afterwards I would have a Caesar Salad, and for my main course I ordered an 8oz Filet Mignon medium rare with an enhancement of a Lobster Tail. I also ordered a Mushroom Demi sauce for my Filet and my Cheddar Smashed Potatoes to be Loaded. By now, he knew who he was dealing with, and didn't mind that I was seated at one of his 4 person tables. Besides, he had two 6 person tables next to mine that he had to deal with. I'll admit this, he did have style. Every item of my order was cooked to perfection and delivered at the right timing. And even the rolls with butter were fresh and arrived hot to my table. And you know that I judge a good restaurant by the quality and freshness of the bread and butter they serve. As the Grand Finale of my meal I ordered a Limoncello Cake at my server's suggestion and it was amazing. I had an extraordinary dining experience and I think I taught my server a lesson of how to treat his guests because you never know who they will be.

Yelp
Billy's is a great restaurant for steaks, whiskey and more! Whether you are alone, or with a party of 12, I am positive you will enjoy the experience.

Yelp
I was in town for a conference and read about Billy's, which was a short walk from my hotel. I heard that they prefer reservations but I was eating solo, so I headed in to the bar. It was a warm atmosphere and the bartenders were attentive and helpful. I started with one of their seasonal cocktails, which was delicious, then got a basket of rolls and my steak with a blue cheese crust, which was absolutely delicious. I then took their chocolate mousse cake to go to eat back in my hotel. I would absolutely come back when back in Roanoke!

Yelp
Distasteful experience! Hallway to the restroom smelled like puke. Hostess (brunette) was either stoned, or just not up to the task. She tended to someone who came in after us and was standing behind us in line. Not sure what that was all about. She didn't remember my wife checking in moments earlier. She seemed to have difficulty making one word utterances. The waitress was courteous and professional. She belongs in an upscale place. A man wearing a light colored shirt and patterned tie was bussing tables and serving food. I don't believe he had time to wash between handling dirty dishes and serving fresh food. (The manager perhaps? No situational awareness). The coffee was good. The salad was fresh. The potatoes, served with crab cakes, were quite salty. The lamb shank was flavorless. As we departed, a different hostess (blonde) was very helpful, giving us directions to the stairs to the Hotel Roanoke. Had the manager the wherewithall to inquire about our dining experience, you would not be reading this. Something for management to consider: The hostess is the first point of contact and sets the tone of the evening.

David V.

Yelp
Service is horrendous. Bartender and manager are awful. Food is average at best. I would avoid at all costs. Much better restaurants in Roanoke.

Yelp
I've been to Roanoke many times over the years and had always seen Billy's, but never stopped in until this most recent visit. It's a more upscale type establishment offering steaks and seafood. The menu has the typical items on it, but they do a decent job adding some interesting items, like their seafood platter and blackened Mahi. Service was decent and attentive. The food was pretty good! I loved the spice on the blackened Mahi and their wedge salad was also really good. Their calamari was actually freshly battered and fried, so it wasn't rubbery, hard, overly crusty, or bland. The sauce on it was pretty decent as well. Overall, a very nice experience was had by all - Definitely would return!

Yelp
Great prime rib Great brunch Pleasant staff Cool atmosphere The crab cakes are the bomb

Yelp
Food is wonderful. Service is great. Pricing is reasonable. The restaurant is nice cozy seating.

Yelp
Came here for a wedding party. Went upstairs to the 2nd floor I believe and had a banquet room. Was such an amazing area and restrooms on the same floor. Had their bloody marry and it was delicious! Also their brunch they offer for big parties was so delicious! Had gravy with fried chicken bacon and omg soo good! Definitely need to come back and try their regular menu. The service was amazing too we had our own server and bartender

Robin H.

Yelp
Disappointing Dinner with a group of 6. Dining room was at least 80 degrees since the blinds hadn't been closed. Everyone (save myself) ordered alcohol, so I had to ask 3 times, and finally my date a 4th time for sweetener for my tea. Friends said the oysters were good - which they opted for in lieu of paying $60 for 6 scallops a wedge salad with blue cheese was literally swimming in dressing - but maybe exacerbated by the hot dining room? Braised short ribs received high praise (a guest who's in the restaurant business indicated it's one of their best sellers). Sadly, I choose the cheese tortellini stroganoff. Needless to say, desert will be antacids

Yelp
The food was SO good! I went for lunch and throughly devoured my burger. I ordered fries as a side, and they were delicious. The restaurant was clean and well laid out. The ambivalence was hip and classic. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and try the grilled pimento sandwich that my colleague ordered and said was delicious

Tom D.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped going there several years ago. The food had dropped in quality and service was not that great. However, recently I went for a birthday party with family. Had the short ribs. Amazing! Service was great. Place was clean. Really really enjoyed it. I will go back.

Yelp
Reservations for Sunday brunch. Food was pretty good service was a little slow because it was so crowded. Cool place lots of rooms and tables. The fancy bacon app is not worth it. It just had blueberry jelly on it, kind of weird. Eggs Benedict was delicious.

Mike G.

Yelp
We were unreasonably refused service without any communication. 5 of us arrived excited to enjoy some good food and drinks and we were told it would be 30 minutes or so which was fine. We settled into a table in the bar area and ordered a round of drinks when the waiter came over. All seemed fine until the hostess or manager came to offer us an appetizer on the house for the delay. We were very thankful and were patient as it seemed fairly busy. After 30 minutes with no drinks we asked the waiter if our drinks were coming soon. He asked us if the manager had been to our table to "discuss the situation" and we informed him that we had been offered and received a free app. Next a hostess came to let us know that a table was about to be available and to close our bar tab. We had not received our drinks now after 45 minutes, and therefore we didn't have a tab. When we inquired about why we hadn't received our drinks yet, the bartender came over (we hadn't interacted with him at all until now) and he commented that our group seemed to have had too much to drink and that's why we hadn't been served. We were absolutely baffled by this as we had not been served at all. We left after being quiet, reserved, and thankful for the free app. We went to an Indian restaurant down the street which was wonderful. Still completely confused as to where the disconnect occurred. We are all professionals in our 50s, none of us were loud or unruly.

Robert B.

Yelp
Food hot and delicious, service spot on with request done quickly. The ambiance glows and the brunch is done well. Sunday brunch is a must.

Yelp
Wow. Wow wow. This meal was so amazing and the service was great. My filet was so delicious and cooked to perfection. The sauce with the scallops was phenomenal . Run don't walk to Billy's

Dene K.

Yelp
It was a lunch portion of Blackened Grouper. Not priced on the menu as it was the daily special, but price shouldn't matter and I didn't ask. It was okay, nice, not particularly flavorful but okay. It came with a side....I chose grilled asparagus. 4 spears. Thirty-three dollars? A side plate for bread or rolls, but none was offered. A three-dollar Coke. No refill offered. I tipped properly, but I won't return. Two stars, but five dollar signs. Nice place - quiet ambiance.

Yelp
My fiancé and I got into Roanoke late on a Friday night. We walked around the old town area and decided to eat at Billy's. It was completely dead, very quiet with just one or two parties. We were greeted, had the opportunity to sit anywhere, and our waiter was great. He recommended to us entrees and he did not steer us the wrong way. My fiancé also starts his tips high and deducts it by any opportunity of poor service. Let's just say, from the great recommendations to his friendly personality, the waiter got his full tip. He even came back and thanked us, especially for it being a slower night and said we made his day. I would definitely recommend coming back. We both had their steaks and enjoyed them very much.

Yelp
Consistently good food and good service. Try the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer. We will return (and have!)

Guillermo G.

Yelp
I had to admit I went to a steakhouse and didn't eat steak. I didn't plan on it to be that way. I just saw the photos for the lamb shank and deciddd to order it. It was a good choice (event he waitress said it was an excellent choice). The lamb was juicy and tender, and the sauce was tasty. It came over a bed of risotto, which was also very good. Service was overall good, although our server was a bit forgetful and the food did take a while. In the restaurant's defense, we were told the kitchen was backed up because in addition to regular Saturday dinner service they had lots of orders from people coming and going to the concert at the nearby park. Understandable. Still, the kitchen forgot two orders and made an extra one by mistake. Everything was made right with help of the manager. No worries. We went tot have a good time and we did.

Eric R.

Yelp
What went well? EVERYTHING!! Myself, wife and close friends in town for short stay in Roanoke while vacationing our way home from NC wedding. Quickly checked out menu at Billy's and decided to check out some other options since many were within walking distance. Jacob was at front desk and was so accommodating with restaurant info and local stuff to do. We quickly returned and were told the inner courtyard we preferred (gorgeous weather that night) was unavailable but were told to wait and they'd see what they could do. Enough preamble.... tried to order the fried green tomatoes with pimiento cheese for Appy and were told it was a lunch item and nighttime chef didn't know how to make it. They actually called the chef and were able to serve us. Delicious! Also shared blue cheese wedge salad which they kindly split for each couple. Entreé's were grilled salmon salad, mahi mahi, prime rib and I ordered the braised short rib. It was served with a spoon because it was so fall off the bone tender. All entrees on point. Waiter was great and accommodating...wish we lived closer to frequent this find more regularly. Just go and enjoy!!

Yelp
Walked through downtown in search of some great food and awesome atmosphere. We nailed it by sitting in the bar area. The bartender was amazing, the food was spot on and we couldn't have been happier.

Yelp
Came here for my anniversary lunch while running some errands in that area. This spot was recommended by a couple of people that live there . It didn't disappoint at all . Very welcoming staff. What the waitress didn't know , she didn't mind going to ask for me . The alcoholic drink that I got with Red Stag was so super delicious ! My first time having a French Drip & it was amazing ! Also suggest getting Flthe spicy crab and corn chowder !

Bradley._. G.

Yelp
The food is awesome! But we went for lunch but brunch was still being served so we had to have brunch, mind you it was around 1pm. But that was the only downside. I highly recommend the lobster Mac and cheese!

Ken S.

Yelp
Everything was excellent. I had the prime rib, which was connect perfectly as was the asparagus. The drinks were delicious. Katie's service was terrific. I will definitely be back

Yelp
Billy's let start with we got reservations because we knew about the parade. So we only had to wait maybe 5 mins from walking in the door. Great start. We were seated in a very Christmas/seasonally decorated. We were greeted by our server Jon who brought us water first. I order a beer and my gal a sweet tea. And we order our whole meal. We already looked at the menu. So it's was fast and easy. The server here are blessed with a great food runner. But I will say the server kinda " forgot about us" very after thought. Had to make eye contact just to get the table cleared and refills. We waited a while to clear the dinner plates bring the check and a Togo dessert. 20 or so mins from when we finished. To get the check. Kinda crazy. The food. The food was great. The steak was flavorful and the cheddar mash was yummy. Stop by if you want a special night. I do think this was a one off thing. I did notice one of Jon's tables seemed very needy. And kept taking pictures for them. But it's a true skill to balance tables in different areas in a restaurant. Please check them out.

Allen Q.

Yelp
Billy's was decent! We walked in for Sunday brunch and were able to be seated although the people after us weren't so lucky, so make sure to get a reservation. I had the sea breeze omelet, which was good. I liked the addition of corn but didn't really taste much of the crab that was added. The biscuit was good, but the prepackaged butter and jam feel hotel breakfast-like, and they were able to put the ketchup in a little dish. The potatoes were tasty, but the portion felt a little skimpy. Overall happy and would come back!
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
I have been here twice and had great experiences both times. I enjoyed the lamb chops, tuna wontons, crab cakes, mahi mahi, cajun alfredo, and butterfinger cheesecake. Service has been good both times and you can walk in without a reservation for weekday dinners.
google avatar

Gleicyane G.

Yelp
Charming place. Nice place for a date, but also good for big groups. We were a big group. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling too well when we came here, so I didn't eat any steak. I decided to order the rainbow trout. It had a toasted almond breading which was nice. It came with a risotto, which was also good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambiance Service was a little slow but it was a busy night Excellent food and beverages
google avatar

Yelp
We only had dessert but the service was fast, friendly and honest. And the Lemoncello cake and chocolate mousse cake were both delicious - light, airy, smooth and soooo yummy. Will definitely come back for a full meal.

Yelp
Delicious food and great atmosphere. The corn chowder and lamb shank are a must try. So many great options

Yelp
This restaurant is in a great location!! Downtown Roanoke is such a cool place and Billy's is in the heart of it all. The ambiance of Billy's is super cool. Right upon entering we were offered a Bloody Mary bar or the endless Mimosas!! I wish we had done that!! Instead we opted to just have a quick lunch. Unfortunately the food took 1 hour to come out!! After about 30 minutes we asked what was the wait and we were told the kitchen was backed up. It didn't make sense to us because clearly some people came in after us and were served before us. When the food eventually came out the candy bacon was not crispy so we couldn't eat it. My hamburger and fries were good and the eggs & toast were as expected but the bacon was once again soft and fatty. My daughter's eggs Benedict was cold with soggy biscuits. We couldn't exit fast enough. The only thing fast about the service was the check. I won't be going back to Billy's. If I do.... The only thing I'd order is the Blofdy Mary bar. It's self serve.
google avatar

Kelsey R.

Yelp
Amazing place! The owner was beyond kind and attentive to our table. The waiter, Caleb, was also so attentive and kind! I ordered crab cake sandwich and it was delicious. My sister got lamb lollipops which were also scrumptious. Mimosas were mostly champagne, which I love!! The atmosphere was lovely. Can't wait to go back again soon!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
I've been here several times and have always had a wonderful experience. Tonight... not so much. Our server was "hit & miss" and I had to flag her down just to get her attention to refill my friend's water. Never asked if we wanted appetizers... we were all seated by 7pm and it's now 8:15 and no food in sight.

Syringa A.

Yelp
VERY slow service but the food was amazing. i recommend the fries and the crème brûlée i had was the best one i've ever had.
google avatar

Tess A.

Yelp
The inside is well decorated, clean, and spacious. The food was relatively okay - definitely more on the pricey side for what they offer. We weren't super impressed by the flavor of our food but maybe we came on an off day.
google avatar

Glenda J.

Yelp
A bit disappointed. We went due to all the good reviews but something was obviously off on Christmas Eve (2023). Steaks and chicken we ordered were not cooked as order, chicken was flat out not good.

Yelp
The staff is nice and were able to seat us even though we were early. Billy's was on our list of restaurants to try so we decided to go for restaurant week and we're super glad we went instead of ordering their regular menu. We got the lemon pound cake martini and it tastes like a lemon pound cake! It's good. We ordered the pork belly and tuna wonton appetizer. The pork belly is slightly sweet. The pickled vegetables are good. The sauce is nice but it's a bit spicy for me. The tuna wontons were a let down because it's not really a wonton. It's more like a very deconstructed wonton. It's like they thought about how "Asian" could this dish and decided to put seaweed salad and sweet and spicy sauce on the plate. The sauce itself is good though. The pork chop is moist. The mashed was smooth and decent. The asparagus is good. The prime rib is okay. It came with cheddar smashed potatoes but my husband didn't want it because it has cheese on it. We were told we couldn't do substitutes for restaurant week so we asked to just remove it. Our server told us that he swapped the potatoes for risotto because the restaurant has really good risotto which was surprising because he didn't ask us if that was okay (it was fine). The risotto was bland and just tasted like heavy cream. When we got our desserts, we were expecting spoons for the cakes but there was none so we had to use our appetizer forks to eat them which was strange. The limoncello cake is good and refreshing and tastes like lemons. The chocolate cake itself was good but the ganache was a bit thick and made it taste like entenmann's. Overall, I wouldn't recommend unless it's something like restaurant week.

Yelp
Visited for my wife's birthday which is on Valentine's Day. Seating was prompt, actually before our reservation time of 7:45. Service was excellent and our waiter was very attentive. We visited Billy's as a splurge for the occasion, but at near $400 for 2 adults a 2 children it was a little steep in comparison to a steak dinner at an upscale chain steakhouse. I had one mixed drink @ $8 and a house Cabernet @ $17, so there wasn't an excessive alcohol bill associated with the overall cost. I asked if they could prepare my bone in ribeye to be "Pittsburgh style" and he assured me it could. When it came out it was actually less "char" than a normal steak. The waiter apologized for the cook and said they couldn't get the grill hot enough to do it Pittsburgh style. However.... It was a perfect medium rare. I was fine with that. Both Filet's were cooked perfectly and an excellent quality. My son's prime rib was tough and chewy. My ribeye was cooked well but tough like the prime rib. I've had much much better at Texas Roadhouse. Oh.... And when we agreed to have the truffle butter added to the steaks I didn't realize it was $10 for one pat of butter. $40 total for 4 pats of truffle butter. In the end ultimately.... When you visit an upscale local steakhouse, I'd expect everything to be better than normal. It was a great experience for us as a family but the quality wasn't on par with the cost associated.

Yelp
Went here last night with a large party. Staff was great, very accommodating. Waitress, Ashlyn was awesome, She had 20 people and kept up with all 20! I ordered the Filet, was cooked perfectly and had a great blackened type rub on the edges. It comes with the option to add lobster tails and crab cakes. I do not like seafood but other at the party order led it. Everyone enjoyed it. You also had the option to add bacon and cheese to your potatoes (who says no to that?). I would definitely eat here again! Only reason I don't give it 5 star is I only give 5 star to places that are one of a kind...so this 4* is the same as most people's 5*

Yelp
After an almost 2 hour shut down on I-81, I finally made it to my hotel which I'll Yelp separate on.... This time it's about FOOD! I was famished. Asked around, good local decent food. This was a suggestion. I have to say, Thank You All! The nice people in Hotel... who mentioned this place. No delivery but lucky me the hotel has a shuttle. I ordered the Salmon with cheddar smashed potatoes with medley. They asked how would I like it cooked. In all my times of ordering salmon I have never been asked that question before it caught me off guard but I was excited to say and I "as well done as you can make it"... lol now I'm in Virginia, I'm from Philly, I travel frequently enough to know... this place delivered all of thee above. Taste flavorportioncost filling... I could go on n on... basically I picked it up and btw I also last minute whim, got the blueberry cheesecake. Out of the park. I'm impressed. Thank you Billy!

Yelp
Great service the food is delicious and consistent. My wife loves the fish tacos, Queso Fundido is excellent. Of course the Classic burger is just that a classic!

Yelp
Food was good but very loud (Sunday evening) hard to converse. Never got bread on the table, and service was excruciatingly slow (~20 minutes to get dessert and coffee after meal). Won't be going back.
