Conveniently tucked inside the Marriott Union Square, this is a nice amenity. I used my $25 daily credit (credited from the $25 daily resort fee) to get carry out. The first night I enjoyed the angus burger and upgraded to Parmesan truffle fries. The burger was alright and the fries hot and fresh. The second night was a lighter dinner with the crab and corn chowder, bread and butter, and a slice of New York cheese cake. The chowder was ok- just needed a pinch of seasoning to take it to the next level. Ronald provided friendly service. The Warriors game was playing on the TV for guests to watch.

(read to the bottom especially if you're also staying in the hotel!) Maybe it's because I've spent the past three weeks here, but I've really enjoyed this spot. Julia, Jay, and Thomas are excellent barkeeps with fascinating backgrounds -- just ask, they're happy to chat if the bar isn't too busy. Maybe grab a "gold rush" too (pictured), especially if you want to try a surprising and fresh take on an old fashioned. The barkeeps and the staff are all extremely friendly and have been with the restaurant for decades. (Ken is particularly dextrous!) The food is great too, if you're looking for a bite to eat. My go-tos are the wings (both flavors are great, but I'm team sweet chili), the tartrate, and the salmon, depending on what I'm feeling. Of course, you can always ask the staff for recommendations, they've all been with the establishment for so long! For the hotel patrons, this is an excellent place to stop by every night for a barside ritual. After all, you're already obliged to pay for the **DAILY** $25 hotel credit, so remember to tip up to $25 (or higher!) if you haven't used your credit yet, and get an amazing time in return.

Loved their cheese sampler. Lovely atmosphere and servers.

Excellent hotel bar. Big, relaxed, quiet with good food, a very friendly bartender and even power outlets for charging. Great spot to sit and work on a Saturday evening.

The sausage rigatoni was surprisingly delicious and the pasta was al dente. The bartender was extremely friendly and attentive.

This is a review on policy and service. I will never dine here again and I will absolutely never recommend anyone go to this restaurant again. There’s a hundred places to eat in the immediate area. Don’t waste your time with wait staff that lacks basic problem solving and communication skills. Might as well be talking to a robot. I live in the neighborhood just above this restaurant/hotel and I also work with companies in the immediate Union Sqaure Area. I interface with a lot of tourists and host people visiting for business within my own industry. For years I have recommended this restaurant to many people visiting and for small meetings etc. All this being said I have been here many, many times. A few nights ago I casually stopped by to have a quick bite and go over some paperwork. Upon entering and being seated I was told there was a $20 min - no problem... I ordered a few things from the waiter Ken, who then proceeded to tell me that I’d need to provide a credit card to open a tab or provide him with my room number. I told him I wasn’t staying I. The hotel and I only had cash on me at the time, no cards, I let him know I’d be paying cash..(I was seated at a small table far from the bar, not ordering any alcohol). I let Ken know that I didn’t need a tab and I could pay him right then with cash. He said he couldn’t do that, he said the policy was that he must secure a credit card or have a room number. I repeated that I could pay upfront and again he said the card is needed to verify a $50 hold that would be returned to the card a few days later. Ken was very rude and dismissive. It became a very uncomfortable back and forth in which I was essentially being told I couldn’t eat there without a $50 credit card security deposit (to sit in a hotel lobby restaurant).... I understand some businesses operate primarily on CC now, no problem (indicate that). However, to require patrons to secure a $50 credit card deposit to order food even after payment... is not something I have ever heard of. This isn’t a reservation at a nice restaurant, it’s basically a casual bite in a hotel lobby. If credit cards for whatever reason are necessary for a hold just to eat there, that should be indicated before entering the restaurant, just like the signs they had up for the $20 minimum per person. I asked to speak to the manager Robert. Robert did apologize but indicated this was a requirement during conferences. (The restaurant was not even to a 50% capacity at this time, around 9:30pm)

Sometimes it's nice to have a quiet bar to chill with friends and have a good conversation. This spot was ideal for an evening of relaxed conversation and good drinks.

Yelp
Hotel food basically. The service was great and the food was quite fast! They just forgot my utensils so you really need to remind them for that. I had food for the morning buffet as well and usually they would serve us drinks, but in the end no one came to me.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised with this hotel restaurant. Salmon and steak was perfectly done. Mashed potatoes were good and roasted veggies were a little overdone but it didn't ruin my meal. Everything needed a pinch of salt but so worth it. The staff was attentive and friendly (after they figured out we were actual guests ) so conveniently located in the lobby area. I would eat here every night but I'm a first timer to the city by the bay and had to see it in all its glory.

Yelp
This restaurant is located on the main floor of the San Francisco Marriott Union Square where I stayed for a week, so I dined here a few times out of convenience. Plus, the food was really good! My first time here I ordered a salad with grilled salmon. The salmon was lightly seasoned either salt and pepper and was juicy. I had the fried pickles which were also a nice treat. On a separate occasion my co-worker and I had cocktails and appetizers (truffle fries & salt&pepper edamame). Those were really good! I also ordered a club sandwich for take out that was great as well. The service was quick. When I dined by myself, I sat at the bar. When I was with my colleague, I sat at the tables and found the chairs uncomfortably low. The seats were comfortable and great for sitting back to relax, but not ideal for dining.

Yelp
This is basically a hotel lobby bar/restaurant. Food was mid and not challenging, and the prices reflected that. (Which is what a hotel restaurant should be.) The setting was also bland. But the service was surprising and quirky. They could not split the bill for each diner. They wanted to charge our cards when we ordered and before the food came out. It was like they are afraid of dine-and-dashers. Plus, they could not split the bill three ways, which seems standard for places with people on expense accounts (like a hotel restaurant).

Yelp
For where it's located and how much it costs, the portions are quite generous. I ordered a burger late in the evening while staying at the Marriott as I vehemently despise driving around Los Angeles at night, and was greeted with a decently sized burger with a full helping of fries. Give Bin 480 a try if you're staying here - the staff are extremely polite and the ambiance is very laid back.

Yelp
Lovely little upscale bar at the bottom Marriott SF (downtown until square) hotel -- great place to stop by if meeting a friend or secret rendezvous for drinks/snack. Lots of cocktails to choose from whether you are going business casual or bar hopping. Bonus: the rooms (ahem yes!)!are spacious, modern and sexy with city views all around. Why not take your date for a little private adventure before going out on the town. Cheers

Yelp
Conveniently located in Marriott lobby, laid back atmosphere easy to eat alone or with group. Also lots of TVs for viewing. Kind and prompt wait staff. Also a great place to stop in for just a drink. Nice basic food menu salad is great and they have a nice hearty soup on the menu too.

Yelp
A solid hotel bar. Went there for a glass of wine with a friend while staying at the Marriott Union Square. Friendly bartender who recommended a great wine, Newton 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. On the expensive side, but a good recommendation. Solid choice for a glass of wine in a modern décor and top-notch bartenders.

Yelp
Food is good. However the waiters would only come to me the days I had my white coworkers with me. Horrible service.

Yelp
Lovely late night dinner at this restaurant. After spending most of my day on a plane, I was absolutely famished. I wasn't sure how much energy I had to walk around the city and find something I wanted to eat. This place seemed like the path of least resistance, given that it's located on the lobby level of my hotel. I sat down and Steve greeted me warmly right away. He was an absolute pleasure to chat with and really made me feel welcome. I sipped a delectable Terrazas Alto de Plata chardonnay while I scanned the menu. Although I'd already had a sandwich for lunch (I eat a lot of sandwiches on the road, apparently) the turkey club with avocado looked really good, so I decided to order that. I was not prepared for what Steve with bring me from the kitchen. This sandwich was a massive, double-decker construction that would definitely require two hands to eat. Maybe three. And it was goooooood! So good! As hungry as I was, I barely got through half of it. It came with fries, which I managed to finish, but I definitely had enough left over for a pretty good lunch the next day. The restaurant itself is beautiful, located in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel. It has a modern and sophisticated look: lots of the white space, clean lines and soft white and blue lighting. It's an inviting space for dinner, after-work drinks, or just to get out of the room for a while.

Yelp
The Gold Rush is simply the best damn mixed bourbon drink I've had. I had one made "smooth" recommended by bartender extraordinaire, Julia. This definitely was the highlight of my day!

Yelp
We stopped in twice during a visit to SF, once for a late dinner and once for midday drinks. The menu was pretty good for dinner and they made a pretty good set of tacos and the exact kind of burger and fries I needed when we went in. The service was really good too - a lot of places in the area we'd gone to on the trip didn't offer that great of service, I'd guess because they knew a lot of their customers wouldn't be back anytime soon. The team at the 480 was really great both times we visited, and we were very warmly welcomed back when we came in the second time. When we returned we were were lucky enough to get two Gold Rushes made specifically by Julia herself and they were fantastic! It was easily the best cocktail I've had in months. Make sure to ask for one of Julia's manhattans/Gold Rush. This thing is so good it needs to be patented.

Yelp
Bin 480 was a good spot to hang out at for a few if you just happen to be in the area. The service was welcoming at first, then became standoffish when I ordered a plain salad that had to be re-made. I'd asked for a mocktail and there also seemed to be confusion about what that meant, however both items were quite tasty and filling, if not overpriced for what I received. It's also a very comfortable space with clean bathrooms that don't need a key card, and plugs next to the tables, so I worked for a bit prior to my appointment. All in all Bin 480 gets 4 stars.

Yelp
We are currently staying here at the Marriott, and decided to try Bin 480 for a quick dinner. The waiter (older Asian man) was great, but the food was very basic and bland. If we stay here in the future, I would just eat outside the hotel.

Yelp
I saw a million reviews talking about Julia's Manhattan so I came in based on that alone. Julia made me a Manhattan and let me tell you... It. Was. Delicious. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
Love the service and the drinks here! Kenny (the server) and Steve (the bartender) always makes my experience great here. This review is specifically for the drinks and the service. They always make me feel welcome and the drinks never disappoint me. For the recent visit, I forgot what the drink was caller, but Steve mentioned it was a twist on manhattan, and it was fantastic. Kenny on the other hand made me feel comfortable as well when he welcomed me at the bar. Definitely my go to bar when I crave for cocktails with a laid back atmosphere.

Yelp
We came in to celebrate a work milestone and to try out Julia's Manhattan aka the Brooklyn. It did not disappoint! So tasty and delicious. Wish she (and this drink) were available at all Marriotts (and everywhere else). Made for a great experience and great evening! Thanks Julia for the fabulous drinks and wonderful service. We will be back again every time we are in San Fran.

Yelp
Just called the Marriott to ask what time Bin 480 opens for lunch and he said that they don't open today, Friday, but opens tomorrow morning at 10 am. Go figure...I'm looking at the Yelp page and there's a running clock that says it opens in 30 minutes. Someone needs to fix this wrong information.

David M.

Yelp
This place was actually pretty solid for a Marriott bar/restaurant. The burger and fries were tasty, and my drink was well made. The bartender was friendly and attentive, which is a rarity in hotel bars. The ambiance was nothing to write home about, but it was an amusing mix of fancy restaurant + sports bar tvs. Overall, pretty solid if you're looking for a meal or drink but don't want to leave the hotel!

Val M.

Yelp
Bartender Julia mixed the perfect "Gold Rush" cocktail for me. It is customizable, and the "strong" version hits the bill for me!

Yelp
I popped in for lunch shielding my face behind gigantic sunglasses while wearing a dress way too tight for daytime to meet my parter in crime for lunch. I love places that serve lunch with a full bar. I like to see how the imbibe list works with the bites. Never take that for granted because all restaurants do not pay that close attention to detail. I like places that make the effort to pay attention to that detail. We started with cocktails. I love cocktails for lunch. Then we moved on to a delicious beet salad. I ordered an Arugula and Truffle pizza - something I normally wouldn't order because I do not like it - but it paired beautifully with the bottle of wine we chose. The service was excellent. I felt so happy to be here. Dessert? We had that upstairs in our suite. ::ahem::

Yelp
We arrived at our hotel late night, was so hungry, glad they still served food at the lobby restaurant and Lounge. I liked the trendy decor and cozy seatings. The menu is good, tapas and small plates, along with house cocktails, extensive wine list and beer selections. We chose to sit at a booth, our waitress was so fast, I ordered The antioxidant ($12) specialty cocktail, it's pomegranate liqueur, veev acai spirit, fresh lemon juice, very refreshing and tasty! We ordered mixed olives ($4) and clam chowder ($7) to start, loved the crostini to go with it, so crispy. The olives were amazing, salty but very delicious! I had Dungeness crab melt ($14), brioche, truffled pecorino, little gem salad, green goddess dressing: the crab meat was so yummy, very flavorful, liked it a lot! Didn't like the salad, the dress was too creamy and tasted bad. Hubby had duart salmon ($20), fingerling potato, Bloomsdale spinach, sweet 100 potatoes, white peach BBQ sauce, the potatoes in there were tasty, the salmon was tender, great with the sauce. Very good late night dinner, light but still flavorful. Our waitress was so nice, very attentive and friendly. I came back to the lounge to have a few drinks with my friends the next day, the couches were very intimate and cozy, we had good conversation over mimosas, beer and Herb garden gimlet ($12) specialty cocktail, it's charbay green tea vodka, fresh basil, freshly squeezed lime juice, it was tasty and sweet. I really liked the relaxing atmosphere of this hotel lobby lounge, it's a great hang our place before or after the tours in the city!

Yelp
Was really hungry so looked for a place close. Should have walked further. Normally I'd say you can't really screw up a steak. But this one just tasted burnt on the outside... Didn't seem to be seasoned at all. The green beans were totally overcooked to the point they seemed like they were from a can. The mashed potatoes were ok... A couple of big lumps but was seasoned and creamy otherwise. There also was a miscommunication on the doness of my steak. This really wasn't up to the usually standard of a restaurant in a Marriott. Seems like others had a good experience at happy hour... Try that as opposed to dinner...
google avatar

N A.

Yelp
This is a bar cafe inside the Marriott hotel in Union Square. I choose to go there because when I need to unwind I prefer it to regular bars who don't have the air conditioning, comfort or offer bites of food. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable given it's inside a nicer hotel.
google avatar

Kathleen A.

Yelp
I don't typically eat at hotel restaurants because they can have spotty service and food, especially in high tourist destinations. I am happy to say that bin 480 is nothing like the hotel restaurants I have been to in the past. I came here with a friend for a drink during happy hour. We sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly and inviting. We enjoyed our drinks so much that we ended up staying for dinner. We had some of the specialty martinis and each was tasty. We shared the trio of fries to start. Ticket time was slow but the drinks were good so we did not mind. The fries were delicious. Truffle fries, basic fries and sweet potato fries. Each type was good in its own way. I would have liked to see the ketchup paired with the basic fry spruced up a bit. It tasted like Heinz. Next up was the prosciutto and artichoke pizza (I think...I know it had these ingredients). It was tasty and perfect for sharing. If you are in the area and are looking for a happy hour destination- stop by bin 480. The happy hour deals are decent, the drinks are good and the food is tasty.

Yelp
Didn't want to venture out for a beer, so I decided to hit up the bar downstairs. I was craving some brew on tap, so I was kinda disappointed that there was no tap to be found. Theres a decent selection of bottled beer, so that saved this review from going down to a 2 star. $9 for a bottle is pricey, but then again, this is the City so paying above average for items such as bottled beer is expected.

Dana R.

Yelp
I'm truly a bourbon drinker and I've had many cocktails that were bourbon base. Today, I experienced the best I've every had. Julia's " The Gold Rush" is fantastic and opens the palate to an unbelievable experience. Get one or two like I had . It'll change your life!!
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
At the lobby bar, Julia claimed to make the best Manhattan IN THE WORLD. As a bourbon fanatic, naturally I was skeptical. However, she delivered! Perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too strong. Just what the doctor ordered. Come see her!
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Uniquely comfortable, low-key place to hang out for way too long to waste time or get work done. The food and the ambience is made right for business or relaxing. Drinks are way, way overpriced btw. A finger of a shot of Fernet is $12, two to three times the standard price. No beer on draught. Only recommendable if corporate was paying your bill without question.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
This place was yummy...we were greeted by Julia in the bar who helped us select a very special Manhattan of her own recipe. The Gold Rush did not disappoint! Staying at the Marriott so appreciate a good hotel lounge

Yelp
Inside the newly renovated Marriott Union Square is bin 480. It's not your typical hotel bar, as it's pretty spacious with booths and tables throughout. Interior has lovely decor, and offers a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe, even with the many tvs in the bar area. The A's and Giants as well as several college football games were on when I stopped here for a friend's birthday outing last Friday night. This was stop #2 of the birthday bar crawl, so we decided to imbibe and nosh. Surprisingly, the bar was not uber crowded, which was just fine by us. Anywho, the food menu is pretty extensive with apps and entrees at reasonable prices, and their alcohol selection is vast with many wines and spirits. They even have specialty cocktails, so check out the drink menu or ask a server. We ordered: 1) Prosciutto and artichoke pizza with carmelized onion and brie) - Can you say Oh Mylanta? This was my first experience with brie on pizza, and Wowie! Absolutely delish with hearty pieces of artichokes and ample carmelized onions. 2) Sweet potato fries with Chipotle ketchup - Sweet and perfectly fried potato perfection. Love the spicy kick to the ketchup! Yay for Chipotle! *My beverage of choice was the Pinot Prosecco, (Villa Granda, Italy), which was essentially a bubbly rose. It was lovely and refreshing and enjoyed it so much that I had 2 rounds. Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. She answered all of our questions about the drinks, the bar itself, and if they had a Happy Hour. Speaking of HH, she gave us a menu, and I took the liberty of copying it for reference: **Fall AKA SF Summer $4.80 at 480 (4-6pm 7 days/ week through November 2009)* Everything listed below is $4.80 - Prosciutto and artichoke pizza (carmelized onion and local brie) - Wild mushroom pizza (mozzarella and truffled arugula) - Parmesan and truffle french fries - Sweet potato fries (chipotle ketchup) - Fritto misto - calamari, green beans, fennel, red onions, spicy tomato sauce - Clam chowder - sourdough crostini DRINKS: Pinot prosecco, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Bordeaux, Malbec, Shiraz, Corona, Peroni with Bud Light and Coors Light even cheaper at $4 'people watch - cable cars and crowds passing by eat - food from 11-11 - small plates and entrees imbibe - 30 wines by the glass celebrate - communal tables, sofas, roomy booths** I will definitely return to this bar to take advantage of their Happy Hour specials. Gotta love the recession prices, eh? This newly renovated hotel and bar is awesome and worth checking out especially with the great food and drink selection, as well as the attentive and friendly service. Don't be deterred since this is a high touristy area, being Union Square and all. Be friendly and answer their questions, and could lead to a lively discussion. Tourists do like to make friends with locals. Trust me as I speak from experience. :0 Cheers!!

Christina B.

Yelp
Julia, the bar tender is amazing!! She offered to make my husband her signature bourbon cocktail and it was incredible!!!

Yelp
WMM( Worth my money) 5 out of 5! Situated inside the Marriott hotel. Had a Manhattan here at Bin 480 and it's official Julia makes the best Manhattan in the city. I know those are big words but you have to try it to believe it.

Yelp
Found this place randomly because a friend was in town and I wanted to try out a new place. This review is for happy hour: +Great location - inside the Union Square Mariott, just a block or two away from the park with the SF heart statues and Christmas tree + ice rink! +Mango Margarita - tasted great! +Flight of fries - wow, great deal for just $12 - regular fries, sweet potato fries, parmesan and truffle fries +Great service! There weren't that many patrons on a Friday night. I suppose it's mostly hotel guests that come here. You can sit at the bar or one of the tables by the large screen. Friday was the Stanford vs. UCLA game, so it was nice to be able to watch it while eating and drinking.

Yelp
I ordered a Manhattan and a the bartender suggested I try their specialty Brooklyn version. By far the best manhattan I've ever had. Great tasting drinks and a very friendly staff. Thank You Julia

Yelp
Peroni and Stella bottles at HH prices? Sweet potato fries, pizzas, calamari and sliders? I met two cousins I haven't seen in almost a year and this place worked out fine for us. We sat in a huge couch / booth in the corner, talked loudly and stuffed our bellies with good food and drink. I liked that the service was quick and polite, but they didn't push too much on you. They definitely want you to run a bill, but it wasn't obvious like other HH joints. Also, it wasn't too crowded here and you could actually talk (to yell) and it was all good. The bathrooms were also super clean. I'm a fan.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick look and see based on the nice reviews thus far. Pleasantly surprised to find this rather large lounge area in the Marriott of all places. Tones of browns and organges filled the space with built in televisions perfectly situated for sports/news viewing. Waitress started warm then chilled with time. I believe it may have initiated when she asked us what we'd like to drink, exactly the same time we were being seated. Perhaps my reply set it off, "We'll start with waters then order some wine after we get a chance." We ordered a prosciutto and artichoke pizza that was tasty once we added salt. We both had red wines that were okay. My French Cabernet Sauvignon got better with time and unfortunately the last sip was the best. Not a bad place to come for decent happy hour and energize before heading out for more shopping.

Yelp
This review is less for the Bin480 itself and more for Julia. Julia the bartender who delivers the. Greatest. Manhattans. In. The. World. Smokey. Decadent. Alluring. Pick your adjective that implies a hypnotic experience for your taste buds and she's done it. Don't believe me? Go try it. Go try it, find yourself reborn and screaming as you swing from vine to vine, striking your chest in exclamation as you re-discover what it means to love again. Julia, my hat is off to you. You truly do make the greatest Manhattan.

Yelp
I just stumbled upon this place last night to grab a couple of quick drinks and was very happy with my experience. Julia, the bartender, was very attentive and personable. I will definitely be returning soon. Thank you, Julia!

Yelp
Al-right. Can't complain about the location nor the atmosphere of the bar. But their HH that everyone is raving about is really just alright. 2 cocktail specials and 4 bites, 2 of which are pizza and 1 is fries. So not really fun things to snack on, cause eating both pizza AND fries is a little too much of the good. Fries are tasty, but you can't really go wrong with fries. Their "aioli" tastes like straight-up butter. Probably won't be back unless, for sure odd reason, I have friends/family staying at Marriott (which is very unlikely, as I'm not a big fan of Marriott to say the least).

Yelp
Weird, it was one of the few places still open in the area. It was a Monday, so maybe thats why, but I would think that more bars would be open. I actually dig this place. Its a super chill bar, its not loud, you can hold a conversation without screaming. The seating is pretty plush. We had a circular booth with tall white vinyl seating. Prices are a little higher, but you're in a hotel, so if you take that into consideration, its about right. You will see lots of out of towners and lots of people on business, so the people watching will be hit/miss. Had the cheesecake as well. And it was decent enough for a hotel.

Yelp
Vert tasty food at a reasonable price - not typical for a restaurant in a hotel in my opinion. They had specials for October which was presented as a separate menu (a nod to octobetfest). The only downside was the lack of lighting for me. Our seats were in between the bar and the TV, but you can see from my pics that it was a low light level. It's mood lighting which is fine for the vibe they are going for I just wanted more light for my pictures. Service was great and fast - both drinks from the bar and the food from the kitchen. They have a good variety of appetizers and main dishes. We had the hummus with pita chips (so good) along with the shrimp and pork fried rice to start. The fried rice was so yummy with lots of shrimp and big pork pieces. We had the pork sliders for my main course (3 sliders) and the corned beef from the October menu. The only kicker is that it was a corned beef sandwich - not clear on the menu. Definitely would eat there again - good value and tasty food.
