Our visit to Biolea was nothing short of extraordinary — a truly unforgettable experience that gave us a deep appreciation for the artistry and dedication behind high-quality olive oil production.
The tour itself was both fascinating and educational. We were guided through the entire process, from the cultivation of the olive trees to the traditional stone milling and cold-pressing techniques that make Biolea’s extra virgin olive oil so special. It was eye-opening to see just how much care, precision, and tradition go into creating each bottle. You really come away with a profound respect for the product and the people behind it.
Our guide, Yoiula, was absolutely fantastic. She spoke excellent English and was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about olive oil and the Biolea philosophy. Her warm and welcoming personality made the tour feel very personal and engaging — she had a real gift for storytelling, and her enthusiasm was contagious. We all felt incredibly well looked after and appreciated her genuine hospitality.
After the tour and tasting, we enjoyed a delicious, leisurely lunch under the olive trees, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Cretan countryside. A soft, warm breeze drifted through the branches, and the views across the hills and valleys were simply stunning — it felt like something out of a dream. The food was exceptional, made with fresh, local ingredients (including their own olive oil, of course), and paired perfectly with the surroundings.
It was one of those rare experiences where you find yourself saying “wow” over and over, trying to imprint every detail into your memory. We all agreed it was a highlight of our trip — peaceful, beautiful, and deeply inspiring.
Naturally, we couldn’t leave without taking some of that incredible olive oil home with us — both for ourselves and as gifts for family and friends. It’s the kind of product you wish you could have access to all year round. We only wish it were available in New Zealand, as we would love to continue enjoying and sharing it back home.
We wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the region. Whether you’re a foodie, a lover of nature, or simply curious about how something as humble as olive oil can be elevated into a work of art, Biolea is an absolute must-visit.
