The 38 Best Restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio | Eater

"Birdietown opened a few months ago and already has become the new darling of Lakewood’s Birdtown neighborhood. This two-level, 12,000-square-foot destination combines a restaurant, two bars, and 18 custom-built holes of indoor mini-golf. Banish thoughts of a noisy, kid-filled playpen as this is a bespoke destination built for adults. The cocktails are top-flight, and James Beard semifinalist chef Jill Vedaa oversees the gastropub menu, which is approachable but elevated, including the chef’s signature white bean puree and calamari with coconut glaze. Best for: Date night." - Douglas Trattner

We had an amazing experience at Birdietown! It was our first visit and all the staff was very kind, made us feel welcome, and explained everything thoroughly. We played the 9 holes of “the club course” (upstairs) as well as the 9 holes of “the lounge course” (downstairs) and both were great little courses that didn’t take too long to complete and were so much fun. Each area also had their own distinct vibes and you could feel the difference. The cocktails and food were all not only stunningly beautiful but also equally delicious. We definitely recommend the calamari - probably the best calamari we’ve had thanks to the coconut glaze. The “Golden Hour” espresso martini was also heavenly. The cherry on top was that the entire building was SO gorgeous, from top to bottom. No detail was left unfinished, from the lighting, to the artwork/photography, to the wallpaper, to the seating (which was also very comfortable). We will absolutely be back for many occasions to come - 10/10 experience.

Sat at the bar, and the drinks were delicious. The vibe was cool and it’s a great idea for a business. However, that’s where it stops. The service from the bartenders was awful on a SLOW afternoon. Tried to make eye contact with the bartenders and get their attention and was completely ignored — one of them left the area completely! Got up, stood at a different spot along the bar, and waited for 5-10 minutes while they finished their conversation with a bored employee before they noticed someone needed help. On a busy day, I get it. On a slow day with only two people? We won’t be back.

First time Visit Review - . First off the vibes are on point! Beautiful decor! Loved the entire place. . Parking is not great since most of the lot in the back is reserved for other nearby businesses. But there are a few spots in the middle of the lot not reserved. . Staff is very friendly! Not one bad interaction. . the BLT is phenomenal! The wagyu burger was also very good. I will note they need a new supplier for fries. Those are not great. . Golfing is fun and very challenging. Kinda pricey for $14 per adult per round. . We booked dinner at 6pm and first round at 7pm, then 2nd round at 7:30pm. This was an ideal way to do it. Me and wife were at dinner for only 45 minutes and were ready to golf. . Old reviews mention their check in process is clunky and well that's old info. It was easy. I highly recommend here for a date night or friends get together. . Almost forgot, there are some gluten free options on the menu.

The atmosphere was great, staff- super friendly, golfing- so much fun. However, the food!! Oh my, it was simply not good. We had the lamb meatballs and the baby back ribs that came with “potato salad”. The lamb was cooked badly and lacked serious flavor. My husband’s potato salad consisted of undercooked potatoes and a light mayo sauce?? We were extremely disappointed in the food but both we agreed we would come back for golfing and drinks.

We recently visited Birdietown Mini Golf and Lounge and were immediately charmed by its retro-classy atmosphere. The friendly staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Although we only sampled the fries during this visit, they were absolutely delicious. We’re excited to return soon for another round of mini golf and to explore more of the menu.

For the 'Gram, and a little bit of fun. The decor is impeccable from top to bottom, making this a great spot for photos. Drinks were well-executed, including the Dirty Bird I ordered (pictured), which was like a martini with pepperoncini and some other flavors in place of olive brine (not my favorite flavor, but well-done and drinkable). The food menu was uninteresting and variable in quality. The chicken wings and blackened shrimp were tasty, but pretty standard. The olive oil cake was dry as a bone and flavorless aside from the squash garnish. The mini golf holes were a lot of fun, and while the place was packed, we never felt like we were waiting long or too crammed into the very small golf area. Service was very good, but the fact that the tip options on the billing device STARTED at 20% is grossly off-putting. In all, a decent enough stop on a night out.

Fun and unique indoor mini golf, with a moody vintage design. The food was great, small but well thought out menu. Every item was prepared well and the service was prompt.

We went for the soft opening and absolutely loved it. The hostess, the bartenders and all the staff were amazing! The vibe is something we really want in Lakewood. We love our dive bars but this place is somewhere you can feel fancy, yet not pay a fancy price. The golf is fun and well thought out. It wasn’t cheesy and we really enjoyed it. We decided to stay and try the food and it was amazing. Everything from the salad to the Short Rib grilled cheese was excellent. We will be back.

Yelp
Birdietown was so so cute! Such a fun/active date night, girls night, birthday party, really anything!! It is pretttttty busy/crowded but good thing you have to make a reservation to tee off!! Everyone there is super friendly and helpful, including the people that are also golfing!! We had so much fun just talking to the other groups and cheering them on!! The course itself is so fun... we only played downstairs! If you want to play both upstairs and downstairs courses, you will need TWO RESERVATIONS!!! While we golfed we did enjoy some cocktails, the tee-d up & kissing in Fresno (which is basically a spicy margarita)!! Both so delicious! They sadly did not have enough room for us for dinner so we didn't get to try the food, but we will be back at this fun new place!!

Yelp
Birdietown Mini golf was such a cute place to go! The decor was really cute and we played 9 holes in the top floor. It was just my boyfriend and I and a group of 6 was ahead of us. We played through the course pretty quickly, and had to wait for the people in front of us more than a handful of times to start the next course. We didn't order drinks but the gal that checked us in was really friendly and explained the rules to us!

Yelp
I recently visited this spot and had a mixed experience. The drinks are good, definitely a highlight of the visit. However, the service at the bar could be quicker--it took a bit of time to get our drinks. We also tried the mini golf, which felt a bit overpriced for what you get. The place can get pretty busy, so be prepared for some crowds. Overall, it's a decent spot for drinks, but there are areas that could be improved. The ambiance is really good too btw. But since it gets really crowded it reduces the appeal of it.

Yelp
Met friends for dinner in Lakewood. Unique idea of indoor 18 hole mini golf. Parking behind restaurant helped. Very eye pleasing upon entering with great music vibe( a little too loud per my husband) Large bars on upper AND lower level. Excellent cocktail( Kissing in Fresno) Reserved a round of mini golf on great website that was very enjoyable. Decided to eat rather than play second round in basement. Excellent waitress Rachel was very helpful with making our selections. White bean dip was delish, fried chicken was on point along with red cabbage slaw with cornbread. Would definitely return for the lower 9 and drinks.

Yelp
As pretty much anyone in Cleveland area, I was itching to try this place out as it's gotten lots of buzz. It took a couple of weeks before so finally got reservations but even then it was 4 weeks out, which that part was fine. On the day of, I was excited to check it out and the scene itself was impressive from the minute you walk in. Lots too keep your eyes entertained from the beautiful chandelier that captures your attention when you walk in to the old school but hip choice of decor with a mix of greens, gold, black and wood. Immediately come in was a coat rack which for the volume of guest they get, it wasn't enough to accommodate the traffic but we managed to squeeze our coats in bc we didn't want to carry them with us. The check in for our T time was quick and easy, we arrived a bit early and they still allowed us to start. The course itself was on one half of the first floor but later we discovered they have one or two more below. No doubt a lot of thought was put into these courses as each hole offered a unique set up and an extra challenge to defeat. The holes itself are all pretty close together so we had to be very careful where we stepped and how hard we hit the ball. But they explained all that before they relinquished sticks in our care. We enjoyed and had lots of laughs with these holes. However, you only get to do 9 and it goes pretty fast. Each hole offers a small counter to place drinks and purse and a server comes around asking for any drink order so that part was nice. One we finished out 9 holes, we check in for dinner, again way ahead of our reservation time as the course only took about 20 min. We were seated pretty quickly and service from our waitress was great. We got a table near the bar so it was pretty loud but that's the natural environment of this place so it was fine. Menu was small but decent options, we ordered another round of drinks and they do have some creative, cute and tasty drinks. We got the calamari as an appetizer and it had a nice sauce to go with it. Our main meal were the mahi tacos and salmon dish. Smaller portions but we are not big on monster portions like they do at other restaurants so that was fine and it had a nice presentation. The food itself was just ok, my salmon was a bit on the salty side so I wasn't exactly static about it. Bathrooms are a different experience, very clean and nicely decorated but be ready for it to be an open area and unisex...the stalls itself have walls from floor to ceiling so you do get your privacy but sink areas are open and shared. No urinals for guys, all toilets for all genders. They do have more private family single stalls but only 1 or 2. It didn't bother me or my husband so we were fine with it. Price wise I did find it to be on the high side given the small portions and how quickly you go through the course so it's really paying for the ambiance of it all. One thing we did love was the Photo Booth that emails you cute pictures that you and your party can take in an old school booth. The printer part was broken and we didn't realize it until after it charged my card $7 but I didn't think it was worth the fuss to try and get my money back. Overall a decent experience, if it wasn't for my good being a bit salty and the quick round of golf that we hoped was longer...I would have given it 5 stars. I know the food was a little higher but honestly what isn't these days.

Yelp
A beautiful new spot with delicious cocktails and friendly bartenders. Loved the decor and tropical vibe. Cocktails are unique and pretty! Will definitely be back to golf. Ordered the Wagyu meatballs and fried pickles. The red sauce that the meatballs are served on is amazing!! Fried pickles were light and delicious.

Yelp
Great idea and so much fun! Came in maybe a week after they opened and really enjoyed it. Staff were all really nice. Drinks were good. It was cold out and snowing so the in door mini gold was perfect. Dinner was good. Have been reccomending to others ever since. Will go back forsure. Make sure to make a reservation for the golf and dinner!

Yelp
Loved the azalea! The espresso martini wasn't as sweet as I'm used to, but the tee'd up was pretty good. It reminded me of an Indian Lassi

Yelp
The vibe was good. The food was good. The people were nice and it was fun. Overall, I would recommend if you were going to pop over there with a small group. I really like the space and it was a good spot to meet up with friends, have a drink, and eat. Also great to have an indoor space to do something, especially during the Cleveland winter. However, I did find their booking site very hard to use. They also don't offer a good contact method if something does go wrong. I called twice and tried to contact them through the website with no luck. There's no way to leave a voicemail. I eventually was able to contact them through Instagram, but that was a huge hassle after trying so many other methods. I would probably not use them for something that I have to book in advance based on this experience.

Yelp
10/10 concept, vibe, decor, location. From the moment I walked in, I couldn't wait to come back. This place would be great for a date or a big group. The space is huge and even though it can feel tight with several mini golf holes, there is a ton of seating and even private rooms which is actually my favorite. BE SURE to make a reservation because that's how popular this place is. I virtually have nothing negative to say. Directly after I paid, I was prompted to offer feedback based on my experience which I gave. I've never seen a business welcome feedback in that way before. It was actually refreshing. Continue that! Parking situation is a little confusing in the back lot. I'll be back soon and will recommend!

Yelp
We had an incredible time at Birdietown!! They were efficient and kind. Their drinks and food were top notch and their mini golf course was super fun. We are excited to go back!

Yelp
A great way to spend a cold Cleveland day! Inventive drinks and old classics that you take with you while you play. There is also a waitress/waiter on the course to get refills. Upstairs is bright but a little cramped with the 9 holes and dining tables. The downstairs 9 was more spacious but darker and a different vibe. Both floors have bars too. Upstairs has more tables and downstairs lounge seating. The wings to start (not pictured) had just the right level of spice and came 6 to an order. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the short rib grilled cheese was delicious with a tomato jam. Drinks run 14-18$, apps 12-16$, entrees 17-20$.

Yelp
Amazing spot! We went for the soft opening and everything from the ambiance to the staff and food was perfect. I don't say this lightly. Everything was spot on fantastic. The putt putt was thought out and exceeded expectations. The food was phenomenal and every bartender, wait staff and hostess went out of their way to make sure we were taken care off. The ambiance was something we needed in lakewood. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
The mini-golf course (we played the upstairs 9) is really fun and well-designed, with interesting hole layouts and sturdy construction. A reservation (tee time) was necessary, which got us a 30-minute window of time in which to start. They asked we arrive 15 minutes ahead of that window, which means a wait time of 15-45 minutes before beginning to play; our actual wait was 23 minutes. Unfortunately, though, there is little room for standing while you wait, and all the tables around the bar area are marked as reserved, so it felt crowded and uncomfortable, as all the other golfers were also standing around. So we asked the bar staff if we could temporarily occupy a table, and were told it was fine; much better! Then, about ten minutes later, a very rude server approached us with big attitude, insisting the table was reserved and must remain open (we should go away). After explaining we had been given the go-ahead, this server dialed it up and became downright insulting, even suggesting we had over-indulged, threatening to "take care of it" (have us removed?). Mind you we'd been there all of 15 minutes, and hadn't yet had even half a beer on an early Saturday afternoon. Hopefully, that particular server will be on maternity leave before long, so you won't bump into her. All in all, given that this place is fairly pricey, with the way we were treated, we won't be back anytime soon; just not worth it.

Yelp
I think for the price you should be able to play all 18 holes. The drinks are good a bit pricey. The food is just okay to me. The grilled cheese could use more tomato Jam

Yelp
This review reflects on the entire presentation and not just food. The barmaid Taylor was fantastic. We had a couple of nice drinks before golf Golf was a different story. It was enjoyable, but we felt it could have been explained or better presented. We had no idea there was even a downstairs nine until we figured it out on our own. Next came sitting down for some food. Our waitress, Elaina? Was again, very good. We ordered some wings, meatballs, calamari and the white bean purée. The wings were the best out of the four. They were not hot. The calamari could also have been good, but it wasn't hot. The meatballs were cold, so we sent them back. They came back out of the microwave and they were still not good. Actually had them taken off the bill. Last was the white bean purée. Great idea, bad execution. Toast points were limp. Barely grilled on one side. It couldn't stand up to the purée. The accompanying mushrooms were ice cold and off putting. Based on that start, we made the call to go elsewhere for actual dinner. The three stars are for the service. $14 a person for 1/2 hour of put putt. It was kind of a let down. Overall, it's a fairly good idea, it's just not there yet.

Yelp
We enjoyed the atmosphere and had a fun time golfing. However, we suggest purse hooks for each mini golf stand, and a self serve water station. The bartenders definitely seemed annoyed with us for only ordering water after we ended golf. We felt the course holes were lack luster. But we had fun.

Tabatha D.

Yelp
Everything was great from the service to the food and overall experience! The vibe was a plus, such a nice interior and upbeat feel to it. We played downstairs in the lounge, got to try a drink from the bar (they have a spot to set your drinks down at each hole), and then we ate upstairs. Waygu burger and grilled cheese sandwich were amazing, the fries were crispy and salty! We all enjoyed the house ketchup. Highly recommend checking it out!

Stavii W.

Yelp
The whole place was exceptionally executed. The food tasted so amazing, you get a good quantity and it was fairly priced. The drinks were also above and beyond with a great taste! And the service was above and beyond. The mini golf was out of this world and so much fun! It is a whole experience. I will for sure be back!!

Chase J.

Yelp
Almost as expensive as real golf. Food was below average and pricey as well. Great atmosphere.
