The Latest Chicago Restaurant Openings, Summer 2023 | Eater Chicago

"A suburban outpost of a longtime Lincoln Park sports bar known for highly regarded Buffalo wings smothered in sauce, with a menu that largely mirrors the original neighborhood location." - Naomi Waxman

Google
Fantastic family-friendly sports bar with friendly staff, great service, and delicious food at a reasonable price. All burgers and sandwiches come with a side and the fry options are plentiful--regular or curly, offered in a variety of flavors. The wings are big and also have a variety of flavors. We liked the honey BBQ. And the sandwiches and burgers are huge. They have the best white bean chili and chicken tortilla soup. Definitely something for everyone!

I have eaten at their Lincoln Park location and was excited they opened in downtown Arlington Heights. We went in a Monday night and were seated immediately. We asked about their Daily Specials and the server was somewhat confused and were different than what was listed on their website. Started with their 5.00 margarita which was very good. They are known for their wings so I had to have them again. They are a little pricey in my opinion but their Birds Nest Hot Sauce is the bomb. So flavorful and just the right amount of spice. Wings were tender and juicy. If you are looking for a casual eatery with good drinks and comfort foods,Birds Nest is definitely worth trying out.

Delicious Food! Great Atmosphere! We had the chicken chili nachos, wings and the drunken buffalo sandwich. The chicken is delicious and juicy. Highly recommend the garlic fries- perfect amount of flavor. We will be back!

We had an afternoon meet up with high school buddies. This place was awesome. Large table for all of us. Server from the bar was always checking on us. Wings were damn good. Fries were also excellent. I can’t wait to go back. Many TVs to watch big games etc. what a nice place in downtown Arlington heights.

We had a group come out and was told that they have some of the best wings around, so of course we ventured out to Bird's Nest. We sat at a high top table (which I'm not a fan of) but that's what they had, so be it. They have a really nice menu and a ton of drinks. I opted for an Arnold Palmer, while some of our crew indulged in the beer special. Something with Coors. I ordered a basket of 10 wings with the honey bbq sauce. They come with celery (not carrots) and blue cheese dressing or ranch. I opted for ranch (again, who likes moldy food). The wings are quite meaty and juicy. They're quite big and worth the price. They are very good and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. They do not come with any sides, so you have to order one separately. I ordered the regular fries and asked for ranch on the side. They serve a big basket of fries that can easily be shared by at least three-to-four people. Not knowing this, several of us ordered fries and left them when we finished the meal. They have an extensive menu. Lots of apps, several salads, pizza, wraps, and sandwiches. They may be known for their wings, but they certainly have something for everyone. It will be worth returning and checking out the rest of the menu.

Google
Horrible place!! They are so rude and always always mess up your order. No wonder they are always empty. I asked for extra dressing for our Ceasar salads, paid extra for it! $1.70 for two extra little cups and they didn't even put it in the bag. I called and they hung up on me before I could say anything. AND the two little cups they did give me were not Ceasar, they were ranch. Also ordered a Chicken Basil Panni but it had no basil sauce! Never can get an order right!! Do not go here, plenty of other places to choose from for a meal.

Google
These wings are the real deal and just as good as their Chicago location. Next time I will ask for more sauce, but they were cooked to perfection and the flavor was killer. The service was great too; quick, attentive, and genuinely friendly. If you're in Arlington Heights, this is a must go.

Google
One thing I didn't like is we had a group of about 12 people and they put it all on one bill. We did end up sitting outside because the the place is on the smaller side and was packed on a Friday night. and we had a large group that did not make reservations. Many of us have never been there before on a couple people wanted to go try it out. It's a sports bar and had lots of TVs inside so people who wanted to watch sports could even see it from outside, and the front of the building has large Windows that open, so we still felt like we were part of the restaurant. As far as the food most of it was really good the pulled pork was a little spicy for my taste. They did have large portions. The server was great considering she had to run all over the restaurant and then come outside too.

Yelp
This is a newer location in Arlington Heights. On a Monday evening, it was not very crowded. They had a $5 Margarita special! Even though wings are their specialty, I opted for the grilled chicken sandwich, minus the bun! The chicken was tender and grilled to perfection. Topped with lettuce and tomato. Others tried their wraps and was not disappointed. The sandwiches came with a side, a choice of regular or curly fries. This is a casual, neighborhood bar with a decent selection of drinks and food.

Larry R.

Yelp
Way too noisy and overpriced. If you don't mind a raucous sports bar vibe, this might be your place. Not for me after two tries

Yelp
Spent an afternoon for lunch with family there. Really impressed with our food selection. The wings are perfectly done. Crispy outside and tender inside. Plenty of chicken to feast on. The cheeseburger and steak tacos were spot on. The waitress was such a pro handling many tables without missing a beat. I also enjoyed the music selection. The women's bathroom is very neat and tidy. Pricing is normal. Glad that a Bird's Nest is nearby.

Yelp
Great wings. Fun bar atmosphere. We came in on a Sunday and sat ourselves. Service was quick. It was about $18 for 10 wings. I'll definitely be back

Yelp
Birds Nest has the best wings. Hands down. They are always super crispy and fresh. They have a few different sauce options to try, but I would say they have fewer sauces then most other local spots. Service has always been very nice too. They also have several games you can play- darts, pinball. Definitely a sports bar vibe!

Yelp
Went to the Birds Nest in AH for the first time after being a long time fan of the Lincoln park location and was so happy I did. I was worried the wings wouldn't live up to the OG location but they definitely did and do an overall awesome job keeping the food quality consistent with the other location. They know people who are long time fans of Birds nest might not be able to frequent the city as often so it's great they built a suburban location that is also a bit more family friendly. The service was great- our waiter constantly checked in on us and even made me a cherry coke even though they don't have it on tap. We got the wings, Cajun fries, nachos, and southwest salad. Everything was really good except for the nachos which were just meh. Will definitely be going back on the regular!

Yelp
The FAMOUS wings are the sloppy kind, not crispy and able to handle a sauce of your choice. They're the kind of un-finished/slimy skin kind. The hottest sauce they have is just not hot, unless you're a person who is sensitive to spicy hot. Anyone who likes their wings crispy and spicey is in for disappointment. And get this, they had NO wet naps for customers eating sticky stuff. A wing joint with no towelettes! A grocery is right down the street. You're out of a product, send a staffer over there and get back with them immediately. The two ladies in our group were pissed. Our table had one order of wings, a burger, a pork sandwich and a pizza. The wings, see above. Just flat out not good. The pizza was ordered extra crispy. It plated with the cheese not even thoroughly melted and no browning at all on the cheese. Our friend ate maybe three small pieces and left the rest. No to go. My burger was pretty well loaded up with "extras $" however nothing could cover up the blandness. The only positive comment I can make is it was "tall". Thick slices of bun and a big fat onion ring. Tragic. And the pork sandwich, 5 out of 10. And as a "take the cake", I ordered a whiskey on the rocks. The bill came and the drink was $8.00 + $1.00 for ice. Seriously? Why don't ya just charge $9.00? A very cheesy work practice unlike the pizza! And as regards your management tape reconciliation; ice is a very difficult product to inventory. A LOT of shrink :-) So why would it be G/L'd and a line item to begin with. And any two couples that would like to split the check 2 and 2; forget about it! The server did the split the check after giving us a hassle about it and made it seem like a favor. A final final, thought that is; the room had a weird odor; kinda like a bar drainage issue. Couldn't tell where it was actually coming from. It needs looking into. There is no way anyone in the room didn't smell it.... This joint has far too much competition within spitting distance to operate like this. It was a "two and done" for two of us, "one and done" for the other couple.

Yelp
I was excited that a location opened in the suburbs so that I didn't have to drive in the city but man was I disappointed... Once you walk in, there's a sign that says "please seat yourself" so its basically a free for all. No organization at all. People were fighting & arguing over tables as they opened up. Mind you the place is pretty small and its incredibly loud inside. There should really be a list hanging somewhere so there can be some sort of organization. Also staff did not acknowledge the group of ppl waiting by the door at all.. The food was very average and not worth waiting for. I was impressed the food came out in 15 min considering how busy they were. Majority of the wings were dry, hard, and with little meat on them. Wing flavors are limited too. The sides we got were good though, just very greasy. I will say this looks like a fun place to watch sports and hangout if you're lucky enough to grab a seat. The community seems to enjoy it alot but there is room for improvement.

Yelp
Good food, nice sports bar ambiance. We had the wings - buffalo, honey mustard and teriyaki bbq. The buffalo was by far the best. Teriyaki bbq was a bit meh. Breaded mushrooms were the best I've ever had. Service was good. Took a while for the food to come out (about 45 minutes) but it was 730pm on a Friday night.

Yelp
We traveled from Chgo not far but were really excited to try it . The bartender was really nice and attentive and I had a chicken BLT sandwich, which was pretty good went back on Saturday to take my husband and show him the place and we walked in and proceeded to get sat, and it took over 10 minutes to get greeted at the table I've been in the industry over 20 years so i'm the first person to give you a break After a while a young girl walked up to us, handed us menus and pointed to the scan bar .....uh. Ok? after sitting there another 10 minutes my husband and I looked at each other and said OK I guess we order on the scan bar? which I attempted and it was only to view the menu, which I didn't understand because she just handed me my menu Again, it was busy ....so I get it .....and we waited and we waited... My husband finally flagged down what we assume is the manager to which he went behind the bar and asked her to come over and take our order nobody was in the weeds. They were just too busy on their phones. I don't know if she didn't want to take any tables outside of.her bar rail ? But she was definitely not interested in coming back after dropping off water. The mgr? was nice enough to make our drinks At this point, I would've rather ordered on a scan bar because she seemed really disinterested and bothered by the fact that we wanted to place an order Big mistake i'm a 40-50% tipper for good service Our appetizer came out, and I had to walk up to the Greet Stand and ask the manager for some silverware because we had none to use with our spinach dip I then ordered the BLT sandwich which I asked if I could get it on a chicken breast that was crispy this time versus the grilled I wanted to try it a little bit differently which I was told no problem. Since I saw you have a buffalo chicken breast sandwich that was available I figured easy Peezy. Just a little modified The food came out timely your food runner is a rockstar. He can carry probably 7 to 10 items at a time so bravo to him & no tray he has mastered it. Upon receiving my sandwich, it turns out instead of a breaded chicken breast. I got what look like kids, chicken, tender dinosaurs on my sandwich, ? which was really a huge disappointment that being said, with a combination of terrible service, and nobody really caring about their job, we probably won't be back. I watched your greeter on her phone for literally over an hour, as well as your bartender and your server They are young, but clearly haven't been trained well. Good service brings great money. call me old Fashioned but they could be picking up glasses, refilling waters, grabbing refills for your servers. If they are too busy to get to it there's always something to be done sadly I'm truly disappointed and probably won't be back and I'm really sad to write this review because I don't really like to do this, but what a huge disappointment it's like you have teenage girls running it and they're more concerned with their phones than their service which is a huge mistake. You can make a lot of money with great service instead of being more interested in your phone The topper was my kids dinosaur like tenders on my sandwich. Unfortunately I won't be back. The wings are pretty good, but not enough to bring me back to this We still tipped 20% because that's just who we are but you would've made a lot more money. If you just felt like being a little bit attentive to our table maybe it comes with age but service is number one in this industry and your staff is more interested in their phones than their guests We live in an amazing city with loads of options. Even in that area there are over 20 restaurants you can better spend your money at. And feel like you had a great time and welcome We all work hard for our money. We should feel like we are appreciated when spending it at your establishment Food: 3/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5 Recommended dishes Chicken Wings

Yelp
Kinda like a sports bar but it's better than one. Their Bird Nest beer by Spiteful Brewing is really good, likewise for the onion rings. Service was top notch.

Adam R.

Yelp
Good food, excellent customer service for our carry-out order. They are SO NICE! Very friendly young woman had our food all packed and ready. She made sure everything was there and cared about the service they provide.

Yelp
I really like Bird's Nest , great place to go to watch football in the fall. I'm a big fan of the wings - they are pretty good and have good flavor options - most of the time I have had them they are cooked pretty well and the curly fries are a must as well!
google avatar

William N.

Yelp
Been here a few times. They have good wings but the place smells like a hospice. Maybe open up the windows in the morning because it smells like dead people.
google avatar

Cristel M.

Yelp
I'm excited to have a new option in downtown Arlington Heights! Bird's Nest has a sports bar atmosphere, with several TVs. It was louder in there than I expected, but the food was good and so was the service. It's also open late, which is great. Because I'm not a huge sports fan, I'll probably avoid this place on game days, but will definitely return for lunch or dinner on quieter days.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
Have heard about these legendary wings for many years and I'm so glad they finally opened up in downtown Arlington Heights! Lots of tables, bar seating and TV's all around. There's even a Golden Tee game too. The wings here are the highlight of course, my wife and I got the famous bird's nest hot sauce and honey bbq wings. They definitely lived up to the hype! Plenty of street parking and the service was excellent. Will def be back to try the other flavors and other menu items!

James P.

Yelp
Food is tasty, particularly the chicken based fare, although all the menu items are winners. Atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable, easy, relaxing. A bit like a sports bar with TV's about, however not as noisy.
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
Was charged $15 over the tip I wrote in on the receipt. Had to issue an adjustment with my bank; I don't know what the bartender's issue was. Always take photos of your receipts!

Dave 3.

Yelp
Growing up, I always wanted to have a place like Cheers. This is it, job well done by the business owner and all staff/bartenders. Food is good too, not just the wings, which are great.
google avatar

Machew N.

Yelp
We ordered takeout for the game. Wings were a very nice size, piping hot and loaded with sauce. Garlic Fries were a nice change of pace. Their burger was excellent. Tasted fresh. Greeted promptly to take order. No wait. Place seemed good for game day and or family night. We opted for take out this time. Will be back !
google avatar

Yelp
Chicken was fried a little hard and need more seasoning... pizza was decent and price was fair.

Yelp
The service was good. The food was nice - I love wings. Lots of TVs, which is always a plus. Came here for the 1st time a couple Fridays ago and it was a fiasco with the open seating - as anticipated by other reviews. Sat at the bar for a beer at first to hawk a spot. It is known to be cutthroat with seating as many people told us. The bartender was super friendly. Solid choices for beers on tap. I am not hating on the business for the set up of the seating - I am sure they are concentrating their efforts and labor $ elsewhere, but I intentionally try to avoid these types of shenanigans. The server was also friendly and good. Wings were good, as advertised. Nice sauce and texture. Not remarkable, but definitely good. Nice business to step in for the old Denton House, which they have a picture of it by the entrance. Overall - solid place.

Bryn D.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I always love it. The garlic fries are insanely good and so is the hummus, which I believe is house made. We also like the pesto chicken sandwich. The service has been very friendly every time and the place has such a cozy mood. I'm so glad they're in our neighborhood! Great place to watch a game or unwind with friends or the person you love.

Yelp
Went there for lunch to try the wings as I heard they were suppose to be some of the best. I ordered 10 wings with teriyaki sauce. I was not impressed. Very salty and hard to bit into. Also tried the chicken chili. I could only take a couple of bites. Not good at all. Service was so so. I know this is a sports bar but I feel they could do little bit better on the food. I probably won't be going back.

Yelp
I do think in terms of bone-in wings, this place might have the best in town....a bit pricey tho. Worth it? Yes, but not to the point where I would go every week. One big problem with this place is their "seat yourself" style. Went on a Friday around 5:30pm, the place was packed bc March Madness games were starting in 30 mins. There was a group that entered minutes after me and the lady in their group happened to see a table get up before I saw, she raced to grab the table, I even mentioned to 2 guys in the group that I had been waiting before them, they just said "oh" and then took the table anyways. I was pretty frustrated. I asked the main server how are customers supposed to verify who was first and who gets the next table. I didn't get a clear answer. So from then on I had to greet every new customer walking in by telling them "I have the next table" which is just uncomfortable and unwelcoming to people walking in. Keep in mind, there is not a large waiting area, there's no hallway where you can line up. You just enter and stand bunched up with the crowd. I get that you don't want to pay a host to seat people but if you have a restaurant that fills up with people waiting you should have a better system in place than it being a free for all. I do want to mention the staff has been friendly both times I have gone in. Just really don't care for their seat yourself style.

April G.

Yelp
Pros: good service, good wings & kid friendly. Good spot with friends lots of TVs. Good fries! Cons: our actual meals were awful. Like barely Edible awful. For the first time in my life I did not take home leftovers. It's hard to mess up a Buffalo chicken wrap and this thing was so gross. My husband's sandwich was a C- as well. If (big if) we come back it'll only be for the wings and a beer.

Dani W.

Yelp
The wings were fried too hard, and the sauce on the wings are too sweet. Hopefully they will get better over time.

Yelp
Go to Cortland's Garage. Don't waste your time at Bird's Nest. Not only is the food mediocre at best, but the owner is an absolute jerk. We were so excited to see a new restaurant opening in town, and attempted to give this place an open minded try twice. The first time we were forgotten at a table for over 35 minutes before being served dull middling food. The second time around, I was rudely snapped at by the owner for not being able to immediately produce my ID after being seated (by him) at the bar around noon for lunch. We had walked there without full wallets, were not ordering drinks & would have been happy to move to a table if I had even had time to process the situation. I absolutely understand needing to follow certain procedures, particularly as a new business. I guess, despite being a teacher - not a food service employee - I was supposed to just know what all of these procedures were upon entering for a lunch sandwich, as well as being able to read his mind. I was publicly scolded & told that I was not showing respect for his liquor license for not immediately understanding what he was trying to say as he abrasively snapped at me "you can not be in this establishment without being 21". I am 33, my fiancé had his ID, and there was a 12 year old child sitting at the table behind me. Yet, in my confusion.. the owner continued to berate me, using aggressive body language & tone before eventually saying "I SAID, it's fine ma'am" (TAKE NOTE IL Liquor Control Commission, it seems he was willing to serve me at the bar without my ID). I, however, was not fine patronizing a business where I was treated that way. We left. I was nearly in tears, which I have now channeled into well deserved disgust for this review. I can not recommend strongly enough that you DO NOT try it out, I will be saying the same to all of my friends & family. We can only hope that they don't last long & another establishment more in keeping with the friendly neighborhood vibes of AH takes it's place.

Christophe R.

Yelp
Update: I just attended the women's NCAA Basketball Championship here. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious. Sound: They played sound at a decent volume for the game which was a nice change since the NCAA Football Playoffs. However they only play sound once the game tips and cut the sound immediately after the final horn. No pre/post game interview or trophy presentation. They switched the game off before the handshake line was even complete to Bull Riding. Again, seems life staff cares more about music playing instead of sports. Not sure who the bartender is that has a beard with gray hairs but he's not friendly at all. He was rude the first time I was there and he was even worse this time around. Think the Owner should get rid of this guy...

Yelp
Tried Bird's Nest for the first time. I'm a wing nut so my standards are high. We went on a Wednesday at around 5 and it was about half full of diners. After a little wait, our orders were taken, onion rings, regular wings, Italian beef and fries. My son thought the order was taking a bit, but I get orders with chicken sometimes take longer. He enjoyed his beef, gave it a 4/5. The fries were ok, tasty. The onion rings although tasty, were cold. They're beer battered, but must've have been sitting by an open door. The wings are fried and sauced. They were decent, but not OMG. I'd get the same flavor, but less sauce next time. They were meaty though. The blue cheese sauce tasted right out of a bottle. Not to my liking, sorry. The place will be nice for game, but it's pretty sparse, lots of TV's. I'll give it another go.

Matt G.

Yelp
This is a really great place to bring family or go to watch sports. I had the pesto chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The waitress was really nice and for a Wednesday night it was pretty busy. They had a $3 cheeseburger special which is super reasonable.

Yelp
Arrived early on a Saturday evening. Busy and LOUD. Seat yourself and share a long high top with 2-3 other couples concept made for quick seating (even as it added to the noise). Service was immediate and on point. Bar refills were quick and courteous. Had onion rings as appetizer. Hot and fresh made (vs Sisco industrial frozen). Spilt 20 wings with my spouse (house hot and honey BBQ). Very large, cooked perfectly and moist, served piping hot as well. Good flavor on the sauces. Good beer list, both on tap and in bottles. Cons: not as "wow" as we were hoping for, and presented similar in taste to many other establishments in the area (Gatsby's, Sports Page, Peggy's). Sadly, no comparison to double fried Buffalo NY wings, but worth the $1.5 per wings as one can find in good food taverns in the Midwest. PS, celery stickers were fresh but needed more deveining and the blue cheese (while tasty) ran a little thin for my liking.

Yelp
Fantastic wings! It does get very busy and loud. People had kids there but it isn't necessarily little kid friendly. Great spot to watch football! Will be repeat customers

Dave K.

Yelp
They did a great job with this build out, feels much bigger inside than it actually is. Love that it's steps from the train. Great location, great Wings + best sports bar atmosphere in downtown AH!

Rick P.

Yelp
Birds nest is a great bar/hole in the wall with outstanding wings. Also has a great variety of beer!

Janet S.

Yelp
Great wings, service and ambiance. The house house is a bit different from a different location I've tried, but still good.

John D.

Yelp
Good wings, but don't go with less than 2 people or you won't be allowed to sit at the tables along the back wall. They should accommodate whomever arrives regardless of the table size.

Tony D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere to watch a game, from great sound system to all of the televisions, you cant go wrong. Very friendly bartenders make you feel welcome and keep your glass full. The wings are as advertised, best in all of Chicagoland.

Jeff B.

Yelp
The "manager" "owner" with the glasses looks like he hasn't showered in a week. Delivering food with not even knowing who ordered food. Auctioned off food and scoffed at other requests which was plates and silverware and portrayed that the business was more important than service and making us as the paying guest important. We felt that we were an inconvenience to them. I also was looking for the bathroom and walked toward the kitchen and saw that all of the chicken wings are sat in a sink. I would not eat here.

Yelp
This a great, laidback addition to the area. I appreciate the many affordable menu options and specials. Margarita Mondays...! It may have been as inexpensive as $5 a margarita. I felt comfortable bringing in my kids for an early dinner; I'm sure the scene is more adult during games or later.

Yelp
EXTREMELY LOUD! It was literally impossible to have a conversation with my family due to excessive noise. Excellent chicken wings and our server was attentive and prompt.

Yelp
Food is mid at best but the vibes are really good. Fun place to get drinks but the food just feels like it is all frozen

Yelp
The chicken wings exceeded our expectation's. Service was so friendly and attentive. Televisions were all around the restaurant. Great place to watch sports. What a wonderful addition to the Arlington Heights restaurants. Definitely be back.

Yelp
Ok..... this place was really hyped up. Not trying to be mean but feels like your in a strip mall bar. Wings I was super disappointed in. Came out super hot but comparable to something you could get at TGIF. Don't be back. However hope they succeed. Just not for

Yelp
Needs sound proofing. Couldn't stand how loud it was. Pub grub was good. Waiter (Will) was terrific.

Yelp
Tryed this new location in Arlington heights. Food was not good. Went to watch a bears Packers game. The owner was wearing a Packers jerzy. She was rude. Didn't give a Crap about her customers. She was the only person in the bar wearing a Packers shirt and hat . I would not care if it was a customer but why would the owner wear a Packers shirt when they are playing the bears. The food is below average. Cortlands garage is better food and friendly staff. Just around the corner.
