10 Biggest Food Happenings In Singapore In 2018

"However, it is only in 2018 that this tongue-numbing Sichuan dish has finally taken Singapore by storm, becoming as ubiquitous as chicken rice or fishball noodles in foodcourts and hawker centres all across the island, even sparking off mala-inspired dishes in more upmarket restaurants like Sichuan-Western Birds Of A Feather." - Rachel Tan

"To experience creative, tongue-tingling Sichuan fare over excellent cocktails or coffee, sidle into the vibe-y setting of this restored shophouse. The expansive dining room is decorated like a garden, with lots of greenery growing between tables and hanging from the ceiling. By night, the space takes on a lounge-y appeal. Expect to be surrounded by a young crowd that folds into the hip setting with minimal effort." - Annette Tan

Exceptional fusion dining experience with good service. We ordered “Birds Garden” and Braised Pork Belly. The salad dish includes broccoli, asparagus, potato with lime sauce. Braised pork belly is beautifully decorated, with crispy claypot rice, truffle and tasted real delicious.

First I want to highlight the exceptional service of the team at Birds of a Feather. I had a large group booking and they were proactive and communicative. Also had a last minute change and they were very understanding in accommodating our changes. Really enjoyed the food which was a creative fusion of flavours, familiar yet refreshing. Each dish was well executed. Personal favourites were the pork dumpling and the Chicken in the Chillies. Also got the lunch sets which were good value for money, with large portions. Would highly recommend.

Not the first time visit. The menu offers an interesting fusion twist on Sichuan flavors. What really stood out was the atmosphere, perfect for both casual dates or small gatherings. Service was warm and attentive throughout.

We had a fantastic dining experience here, trying the sharing menu for two and enjoying every dish. The standout for us was the Homestyle Braised Pork Belly. It was rich, flavorful, and absolutely satisfying. Despite the busy lunch crowd, the ambiance remained cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The service was attentive and efficient, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for delicious food, a great atmosphere, and excellent service. We’ll definitely be back!

Loved the place at the first sight. first time trying Sichuan influenced in singapore😶 Went for a catch up with a friend. Staff was great specially there was one who was very polite, helpful and kind. Love the cozy ambiance and their food. Their food tasted really fresh and authentic and I didn’t know I can try this cool spiciness from chinese food. We ordered set lunch and loved Yu Xiang Eggplant soba.

The lunch deal is worth it. Decent sized portions. The yam noodles were especially unique. Very chewy. The mahpo tofu is highly recommended. The fruit tea was really refreshing.

Decided to try this place for mother’s day. The dishes here, or at least the ones I’ve ordered were a hit or miss for me. My favourite dish would be Crab & Avocado Brushetta ($18), nothing too heavy and I liked how they incorporate crab together with guac. Yu Xiang Eggplant Soba ($18) was a tad bit salty for my liking. This was the only dish we didn’t finish 🫠 Find the Chickens in the Chillies ($19) was pretty good 🌶️ The spices were fragrant and chicken pieces were fried to perfection. They used cashews, which I thought didn’t have that satisfying crisp compared to peanuts… Tried out the Homestyle Braised Pork Belly ($63) everyone raved about. It was ok, nothing amazing. The table found it too greasy and overwhelmingly rich after a few spoons. The taste of truffle wasn’t very prominent in this dish. But you can taste lots and lots of kale 😂 Yammy duck ($28) was my least favourite. This dish is probably an acquired taste, you’ll appreciate this if you like foie gras. I thought the yam didn’t go very well with the duck confit. In terms of texture, the yam was very slimy, and the duck confit wasn’t crispy enough. I’d skip this dish 100%. Got a osmanthus cocktail ($26) too. Overall service was good. Servers were all very helpful when recommending dishes, taking pictures, and explaining the different components of the dish. Ambience was good too, though I didn’t really like seating as there were no lights above us which made our surroundings pretty dark. Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Google
Worst restaurant I have ever been to. The restaurant wants to give an impression of high-end Asian fusion food. Yet the fact is neither the flavor nor the service is up to the standard of the price you paid. Eggplant is stale and dry; duck soup is weirdly seasoned; and the dessert is sour and bitter. And worst of all is the service - the waiters are slow and arrogant. AVOID THIS PLACE!!

Yelp
Six of us, we were there to try out the chope voucher. Food was yummy, mostly fusion food (Sichuan/western). Not exactly for those with special dietary restrictions, but staff were quick to recommend dishes with options/adjustments. Good hospitality and great ambience - sufficient space between tables.

Yelp
Excellent Sichuan based fusion restaurant in the hip and happening Amoy street area. The place is much bigger than what it looks from outside and the decor is extremely nice. Great service all round too. We had the chili chicken, crab tartare and pan gyoza to start off with along with couple of glasses of wine. Food is really good. Had the oriental Bolognese and basque cheesecake to finish. Good food and good drinks with great service and ambience. Definitely a place you can revisit.

Yelp
When I first went to Singapore last spring, I discovered this restaurant during quarantine through my Instagram explore page, and decided I must try it. It was one of the first restaurants I went to out of quarantine. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and classy. The food was expensive, but most dishes were fine. Probably not somewhere I would eat extensively at again, but would go to enjoy a cocktail and something light. We ate: One Night in Chengdu ($49): Delicious and beautiful cocktail, very well garnished, but much smaller than it photographs. Worth a try since a moutai cocktail is unique, but I would say their other cocktails are better value and equally yummy. Baked Eggplant with Fried Mantou ($16): The fried mantou was so delicious, eggplant good too. Find the Chicken in the Chilis ($17): This is a classic, must-order at every Sichuan restaurant, and I thought this name was hilarious. Well-executed here & reasonably priced. Hot & Sour Chazuke ($30): This is definitely not something I would have ordered if I came here by myself. I enjoyed it more than I expected to, but the soup was pretty sour. Two Way Braised Tofu ($25): Their take on mapo tofu. Sour and the beef taste was quite strong. Did not enjoy and would not order again. Cheesecake: Good, but frustratingly standard with the sparse fruit and caramel.

Yelp
Finally made time for dinner on a Saturday at this Sichuan-Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant, supposedly hipster cool at Amoy Street. It's trendy, but not sophisticated, smooth trendy like... Potato Head, or Burnt Ends (I'm in no way endorsing the food at these restaurants, just saying about the trendy factor). Fluffy cloud lamps kind of appeal to kids more... Dinner for two, an alcoholic beverage (average), two starters and three mains totaled $145+. Not quite worth it. Cold octopus starter -- passable. Not great. Ma la ebi (prawn) instead of chicken -- nice kick, but not quite sure if it worked with those crunchy baby prawns. Main of roast vegetables was very pretty, and not bad, and the star of the dinner was the famed fusion angel hair pasta "bolognese" with a Sichuan twist. That was the only good thing about dinner. The last dish of duck was.. poor. Will only return for the pasta.

Yelp
This is a very modern twist to Sichuan cuisine. It isn't authentic but the nuances of Sichuan elements are well balanced with modern techniques and produce. The space is a lovely hideout in the otherwise sterile CBD area. But this experience comes at a price. The portion is on the smaller side for the pricing they are charging. Apart from that it's a lovely meal.

Yelp
Great food, get the "Find the Chicken in the Chillies"! It's spicy though. Good trendy place for dinner with a friend or a date.
