Yelp
After walking around Plaza Mexico with my mom, sister, and fiancée for a couple of hours, we developed quite an appetite and we were looking for a unique and, of course, delicious dinner option. While detached from the main plaza shopping area, this restaurant caught our eye because 1) it's birria and 2) my mom is from Jalisco. Other birria spots that we've visited in the last couple years have all been beef birria so we were pleased that this place offered Jalisco-style goat birria (chivo/a)!
With a little more than an hour left before closing time, the restaurant was relatively empty, which meant that we were seated and served almost immediately. The staff was very friendly and provided great insight into the food options (especially the difference between birria order sizes).
We ordered two full orders of birria, two birria quesadillas (corn/maíz tortillas), and horchata to drink. The horchata was very good, but make sure you stir before every sip (pro tip). The quesadillas were delicious (don't forget the onions, cilantro, and lime). And the birria orders were plenty to share and still have leftovers for the next morning (we made birria machaca con huevos--so fire!). Oh yeah, and the handmade tortillas (flour) were on point!
All in all, a great experience with great food! The only negative aspect (and the reason that I've docked a star) was that they cleaned the tortilla-making equipment well before closing time and we were given lackluster tortillas for our second round. I've worked retail and in the food service industry so I understand the desire to clean early and leave early, but it definitely puts a damper on the customer-side of the experience.
