Biryani Osawa

This was my first time trying biryani, and it exceeded all expectations. From the very first bite, I was impressed by how deeply the flavor of the mutton had infused into the rice. The spices are layered beautifully, and as you keep eating, different notes continue to emerge. It’s a very well-executed biryani. The restaurant is counter-style, creating a calm environment where you can really focus on the food. The spicy sauce and raita pair perfectly with the biryani and add great balance to the meal. The spiced vanilla bean ice cream was a memorable finish, and the iced cola—served with very little ice—was surprisingly satisfying and complemented the meal well. An excellent place even for someone new to biryani, and definitely a spot I would return to.

As expected, the Biryani was very good, and most likely best we've ever had. We had the mutton biryani for Saturday lunch. While reservations are required, it wasn't overly difficult to make, but you do have to book when the window opens (which was midnight JST). What we really appreciated was not only how passionate the owner was about his craft, but how down to earth and humble he was. We brought our children with us, and he took special effort to take care of them and provide them lassi to help with some of the spiciness. We had a great time. Thank you!

I have had biryani hundreds of times in many countries and this is the best biryani I have ever had. It was super flavorful and aromatic. Just the right level of heat. Fresh and light. Not greasy. It came out exactly at noon steaming hot from the pot. The chef is Japanese but learned to make biryani in Pakistan. I got it with an ice cold coke and a scoop of vanilla ace cream after. This guy needs a Michelin star.

Biryani perfection in a modern Japanese counter-style setting. I booked the first lunch service and was allowed in early to see the cooking process. Chef Osawa greeted us and explained ‘his’ Biryani (also in English) The background, the process, the way he would like us to enjoy eating his version of biryani. It was Mutton Biryani day. You have a choice of regular or full size serving (no extra cost). I opted for regular. From the first bite to the last, it was just WOW! The dish packed a punch of flavours. The spices were not overpowering and there was an option to add more chili oil. The dish was served with a side of raita which added a creaminess to the dish. The chef recommended to order their slightly frozen Coca Cola, but to drink it after finishing the dish. Perfect match. The meal ended with his vanilla ice-cream with cinnamon. The mutton biryani was sensational, had it for takeaway and couldn’t believe this japan and a Japanese chef

We had the chicken biryani when we went over for lunch. Pretty tasty biryani and loved the restaurant concept. Like a chefs table but with only one dish being served. The coke served about 2/3 into the meal was the perfect complement to the spicy dish.

As an Indian American I was interested in biryani Osawa as I was on my honeymoon in Tokyo Japan. This place blew my mind. Easily on par or better than any biryani spot in the states or in India. Truly elite Indian cuisine and attention to detail and perfection

We love curry and I found this restaurant on the Michelin site. Unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked during our time in Tokyo. However we were able to order a takeaway. On the evening concerned a chicken biryani was being prepared. Our chicken biryani was absolutely superb. The style and atmosphere of this small basement restaurant with an open kitchen also seemed great when we picked-up our food. This was the best meal so far of our trip to Japan. I would love to return in order to repeat the experience or to try their mutton biryani.
