The 26 Best Restaurants in Anchorage, Alaska | Eater

"This tiny storefront tucked into the back side of a sleepy downtown strip mall lights up in the mornings with a menu of sweet and savory homemade biscuit breakfasts, including breakfast sandwiches and Benedicts. Gluten-free breakfast scrambles are available as well, with a cup of the excellent coffee. Limited indoor and outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome." - Julia O'Malley

Google
Incredibly tasty brunch/breakfast! Wife had the American Pie with a side of scrambled eggs and she loved it. I had the Heartbreaker and it was delicious! Nice selection of hot sauces to accompany any palate. Reminds me of cool cafes and restaurants in the Ludlow section of Clifton near the University of Cincinnati’s campus.

Home made biscuits and eggs cooked to perfection. On top of all that the coffee is just about the best I've ever had, period. Very rare to get a doppio shot that tastes flavorful with out being bitter in any way. The boos be boppin, and the staff is genuinely nice. The style of biscuits might not float everyone's boat but the fact that they are home made and cooked with love is enough to get my return visits.

Google
The biscuits here were delicious. I had the La Bamba, which had green chiles and jalapenos, and was just the right level of spiciness balanced out with the sausage gravy. The location is a bit weird; it’s on the lower level of an old mall building and the interior stairways are blocked off, so you have to walk around to the loading dock area off of 3rd Street to find the main entrance. Seating is dispersed in the old mall hallways and on outdoor picnic tables by the loading dock. However it is well worth hunting down to enjoy the delicious biscuit meals! This place was very crowded and popular, but the staff were friendly and efficient, and I thought gave terrific service!

Google
Oh my gosh, this little establishment was absolutely fantabulous. We were going to our car in a parking lot after doing a little shopping on Main Street. There was a small strip of buildings adjacent to the parking lot and all we could see was the word biscuit… we had been talking about getting a good biscuit as soon as we arrived to Anchorage well this place is A++. The service was excellent. The décor was so inviting friendly and colorful. The staff was soooooo sweet and accommodating!! We loved every part of this BISCUIT CLUB… and did I mention… the BISCUITS…. awesome !!!!! my only disappointment was I did not get a T-shirt because there were none left in my size.☹️ but that just let me know for sure this place is great!!!

Discovered this hidden gem thanks to a good friend’s recommendation—and I’m so glad I did! Heads up: Google Maps sends you to the wrong spot—it’s actually on the opposite side of Third Street, so keep your eyes peeled. The menu has a great variety, including plenty of vegetarian options, which is always a plus. When you walk in, you place your order and then head over to a cozy seating area across the main space. I grabbed an egg and cheese biscuit to go, and wow—what a treat. The biscuit was freshly baked that morning, and the eggs were cooked over-easy right in front of me. Simple, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back to try more!

Google
I was really excited to go here for the first time. I immediately enjoyed the cute space as well as the fact that they sold Alaskan made products. The prices were very reasonable. The service was fast but not welcoming, in fact a little rude. The hallway in which the seating was located was quite chilly. The coffee was great! The food came quickly and was delicious! I had a biscuit sandwich and I did really enjoy it.

Google
First time here and it's a hole in the wall kind of place. The address on Google says 4th, but signs tell you to walk outside down the stairs to backside where they take orders. But leaving went up elevator and door on the 4th Ave was open, so going in can use elevator, walk past the tables to where the café is set up. They've used old hallway space and set up tables. So that's the environment. I got Benny and the Jets, and hubby got heartbreaker. When they came it looked like... That's it. But we couldn't finish either one, they were very tasty and filling. So if you're hungry this is good comfort food

Google
This place serves coffee and biscuit-centric food, see the name. They also have soda by the can and bottled water. Located on the vack lower level of a strip mall-ish city block, they can be a bit difficult to find from the main touristy area, but thankfully, there was. Small sign on the front of the building directing us around back. There is inside seating and picnic benches out under the overhang if you'd like some fresh air. Decent view of a pay parking lot and the water to the north. The food was hot and good, I recommend the biscuits and gravy.

Yelp
If you are in Anchorage, I highly recommend this shop for breakfast! They come in a variety from sweet to savory biscuits. The coffee is also nicely made and refreshing. This is a small spot located behind the main building. The servers were super nice and I highly recommend trying their coffees. I believe I got the apple butter biscuit and I have been craving this ever since.

Yelp
Got a London fog with a shot of espresso--probably the best once I've ever had. The line can get long (a testament to the top-notch drinks here) but the wait is by no means monotonous. The small service area is full of stickers, trinkets, and unique merchandise that makes the time fly by. The colors are a treat to drink in on their own. Aside from the decor, the ambiance of the larger seating area is bright and colorful (a perfect social area or workspace). Outside of the service area, the space is quieter and spacious while still maintaining the eccentric feel. It's rare to find a cafe which renders headphones obsolete, but Biscuitclub treats the ears with 90s/00s grunge and rap hits.

Yelp
We found Biscuitclub a bit difficult to find due to online directions showing it at the front of the 4th Avenue Market Place building. Instead, it's located on the bottom floor of the building, in the rear. To reach it, take the stairs on the exterior left side of the building. I think Biscuitclub took over the entire bottom floor. There's plenty of seating inside and out and the smell of meat cooking on the flat top penetrates the entire area. This is a counter service establishment and everything is cooked fresh to order. It took about 20 minutes for our food to arrive. AK Biscuit ($22) - This meal comes with two biscuits, both very good drop biscuits, fluffy and super moist inside. The biscuits aren't cooked that evenly between batches, so one biscuit has a much more caramelized golden brown top, giving it a great crunchy crust on top, while the other biscuit is a bit lighter in color with less of a crust. Still, both have crunchy bottoms and the insides are very moist. There's good flavor in the dough, not too soapy from alkalinity and not too much of the baking soda taste. The biscuits are covered with a thick sausage gravy that's spiced well and has tons of dried herbs mixed in. It's kind of sweet, almost as if it's sweetened with a bit of maple syrup. Two eggs, cooked to our choice on the flat top, grace the top of this dish. We went with over medium, which has a mostly runny yolk that's set only a bit. There are spicy hot links, cubed and fried, and cubed ham as additional protein, and caramelized onions to add more sweetness. Overall, very high quality biscuit, combined with a tasty gravy. (5/5) Reindeer Sausage ($4.50) - The reindeer sausage has only a tiny bit of gamey flavor - perhaps this sausage is still mostly pork or beef? It's kind of like a grocery store bought sausage in texture, so it's finer and more emulsified than a homemade sausage with a snappy casing. It's cubed and fried on the flat top to perfection. Each little piece has a side that is crispy charred. It's a nice sausage that would probably work well in gravy. I grew up eating biscuits in the South, and I can say that Biscuitclub really serves some very solid drop biscuits. I was very surprised at the quality, especially given that it's located in Anchorage, not exactly the bastion of Southern cooking. This is a definite visit any time I'm in Anchorage. Bathrooms - Two large rooms with multiple stalls.

Yelp
The inside small cozy. You see everything right when you walk in. The coffee making the ordering the delivering the cooking!! BOSS LADY ON THE GRILL LIKE ITS NOTHING. Orders were going in and out! Loved it! Love her!! The team behind the counter were so swift and in the groove. Biscuit was soft and buttery. I wish I got another one w my loco motion! I like gravy so I like it SMOTHERED in gravy. And it was perfect. Salty, peppery. Eggs cooked to my likings!

Yelp
Took some time to find, so for those looking at where the pin is, go east to the yellow stairs, then turn right and it's on the right. Awesome first experience, basically said I can make any combination of biscuits (fresh made), meats and eggs. I think there was gravy to be had as well, but not my journey today. Service was prompt and welcoming, and plenty of seating (oddly in the hall, but was still nice). Very clean, to include restrooms. Foot was outstanding. I was thinking about the biscuits all day after. My buddy got the bullet coffee, which he greatly enjoyed. I will be coming back next trip up!

Yelp
Biscuits were so yummy! Got here in a Friday morning and was pretty busy. Line out the door but moved relatively quick. Once we ordered it was a short wait for the food but to be expected with as many people that were there. It's quirky and cute inside where you order and love the vibe. The seating area is pretty plain but found enough seats for our group. Food was delish, great flavors and spice. I love the menu item names...unique and clever.

Yelp
It is so delicious and these biscuits will stick to your ribs all day! The flavors of the different toppings are complex and satisfying. Their coffee kicks butt too. Staff is chill and very nice. There are fresh flowers on the tables are such a nice authentic touch. This is such a cool spot, I wish I lived in Anchorage. Don't let the plain industrial outside fool you, go to this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Great biscuits but the compelling thing was the reindeer patty sausage. That was compelling, I lived 3000+ miles away and would honestly consider going back just for that. So wonderful. Nice people too. Good coffee.

Yelp
Posting this review a few months after my visit, but the few things I remember: - Blaring 90s R&B music playing - it was my vibe but I could see it not being someone else's - Super nice, fun ladies at the counter - Having to look up and read the small-print menu from afar hurt my neck and my eyes. I hope y'all will consider printing menus - Seating in the hallway is a cool concept - I love all variations of biscuits & gravy and am grateful a place like this exists in Anchorage

Yelp
La bamba was really good. Would definitely order again. American pie was ok, would probably get a different sweet biscuit if I went back.

Yelp
Amazing food and service at the Biscuitclub in Anchorage! It's a music themed menus and I always get the Benny (& The Jett's)! Eggs are delicious along with the Biscuit and gravy with bacon on top is my choice! Coffee selections are great and the Sludge Cup for me has the right amount of expresso shots to wake me up. The seating at the restaurant looks like you're in a hallway but it really works. Staff is Great and it's my go to place in Anchorage when I come to town. Try it out!!

Yelp
'Ello Chaps, Biscuitclub is a quaint little breakfast joint in the heart of downtown Anchorage. I love the vibe of this place and the fact it's local. The access point is on W 3rd Avenue, flip side of the main downtown street. The "dining area" seems to be in the hallway of an abandoned office building. They seem to make the best of it. The food was good, although our sandwich oddly didn't come with everything on it it was supposed to (no egg) but no complaints. There are vegetarian options, even the gravy. It's a cool vibe and good food. Overall I give Biscuitclub 4 Stars out of 5.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
It's not very often that a company will make me eat my words, but Biscuit Club has done exactly that. After the lull during summer, they've been great at keeping veggie options stocked up, and the ladies there always make us feel so incredibly welcome. 10/10, appreciate you guys!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
For something so simple everything was so good. We had the biscuits and gravy and the BEC and every bite had us waking more. The main area where you order is a cool little spot with awesome bright colors and fun signs. Everyone who was working there was so fun and friendly. If there is time to go back on this trip for breakfast we will be there in a heartbeat.

Yelp
When I tell you this is the hangover cure of my dreams, I am serious. My fiancé and I could not get over how delicious this was. This spot felt like more of a locals place and less touristy like Snow City, which was super nice! The servers were wonderful and efficient. I love this place and can't wait to come back next time I am in town. Chef's kiss!!!

Yelp
Delicious coffee, and one of the best biscuits you'll ever have with homemade strawberry jam Great ambience and just a wonderful staff

Yelp
As a pilot, I've tasted my way through countless variations of biscuits and gravy across North America. Let me tell you, the Benny (and the Jets) at The Biscuit Club in Anchorage may just take the crown as the best I've ever had. The biscuit itself was perfection--golden and flaky on the outside, with a tender, buttery interior that practically melts in your mouth. They know what they're doing here because the balance of textures was spot on. But the real magic? The Benny-style toppings. A rich, velvety hollandaise sauce smothered perfectly poached eggs, adding a luxurious twist to the classic Southern staple. The accompanying gravy was a standout--creamy, peppery, and packed with depth. Everything about this dish was a masterclass in comfort food. The portions were generous (without veering into overwhelming territory), and the flavors were so satisfying that I found myself wishing I could bring some back on my next flight. If you're in Anchorage and want a breakfast that sets the bar sky-high (pun intended), you owe it to yourself to stop by The Biscuit Club. It's more than worth the trip--even for a seasoned traveler like me.

Yelp
Holy cow it was delicious. Ordered the la bamba. I had heard from others how good this place was and didn't think too much of it. But then I ordered this la bamba biscuit, and just absolutely impressed. Really fresh and the flavor and texture was super good. Highly recommend.

Yelp
AMAZING food!!! Biscuits are perfect! Got the Sammy scrambled with sausage! The cheese was melted/fried to match the perfect egg. The Straight Up was tasty and again perfect-not crumbly or hard. Gravy wasn't too spicy. The Jammin was a crispy biscuit with honey. Wow! Simple but so great! Coffee is serve yourself. Tasted good. But they have lots of specialty coffees also. Seating is funky and relaxed. It was hard to find-not on the main street-yes, walk around towards the water into a huge parking lot with a big dumpster and you'll be able to 'pan for gold' when you find this awesome place!!!
google avatar

Jackie F.

Yelp
Great people working and I love the vibe/googly eyes! I also loved my dirty chai and their biscuits are amazing- excited to try more of their menu when I come back! If you aren't familiar with the building they are in they are on the downstairs floor of the building and there is parking around back that is straight away to them. I ended up parking upstairs and had to go around but I was happy to burn a few of the calories I was willing if partaking in! I wish I had gotten a picture of the food- but I didn't even think about it- the counter pictures I took were just to show my kiddo
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic biscuit La Bamba: cooked perfectly, held up to the chorizo egg gravy that is placed on top of it! And the biscuits and gravy just like grandma's! I'd go back just for a biscuit!!! The service Great the Gurlzz Very Kind & on top of it!
google avatar

Hannah A.

Yelp
This is the cutest little shop! Kinda hard to find but well worth the adventure! I got the Jammin' biscuit with the strawberry jam and it was so squishy and crispy at the same time! The staff was friendly and the service was very speedy!

Yelp
This place was INCREDIBLE. I'll say one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Thats saying a lot and breakfast is typically easy to do so it's hard to find one that stands out. This STANDS OUT! I'm from Florida so I've never been here and wanted to try what many were raving about and i'm so glad I did. The young lady at the front was so helpful as they have a wild menu...i didn't know what I wanted so she asked questions and made up a perfect meal! Here's what I had: Biscuit Sandwich with grilled cheese (which they fry first to make it crispy) on an over easy egg with AK Reindeer Sausage. This brought a tear to my eye it was so good. I almost ate the paper plate they served it in. I recommend this place 100xs over!! The price was surprisingly low ($12.50) for the sandwich and a reg cup of coffee. I would have gladly paid more it was so good.
google avatar

Anne L.

Yelp
BL: I'd come back! It's quaint, well priced, and delish! Entrance is facing 3rd Ave, near the parking lot... Yes, the blue building that mostly looks empty. Homemade biscuit and gravy with variety of toppings. La Bamba is "spicy" (slight kick but not crazy). Taste overall is very good but the biscuit really made a difference! The edges were a little bit thinner and crispy so I'm excited to go back to order just a biscuit sandwich (without gravy) just to see how it tastes on its own! Kaladi coffee menu available! You order and pay and find yourself a seat in the hallway and they'll bring it out to you when ready. We busted our own tables after... The minor downside that made me cringe a little was everything was disposable :/ Can't say the portion is huge but it is definitely satisfying and the price is good!
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
The food and coffee we had was amazing. We just got off our flight and were starving. The wonderful chefs at Biscuitclub were there to bring us back to health and prepare the best breakfast I've had in a long time. The biscuits and coffee were the right amount of portions. Anytime I'm back in Anchorage, I'll definitely make this my top priority.

Wendy W.

Yelp
What a great find. This place was amazing... I had the make it easy biscuit and they were short staffed but so attentive

Yelp
Couldn't recommend this place enough. Saw the reviews here and asked some locals who mentioned it was new, but made sure to tell all of the locals just how good this place is and its well deserved. From the coffee, to the fun names of the dishes, to incredible service, this place has everything. Starting with a silver bullet coffee, decided to go with the Loco (Moco) Motion: mic drop biscuit with eggs, spam, gravy, rice and nori. WOW. The biscuits are fluffy a substantial, the perfect base for all those delicious toppings. The best thing here though was the American Pie: apple butter, cheddar, on top of the flat top with the biscuit and fresh whipped cream. O. M. G. Shared things amongst my dining companions and everyone was so over the moon. I couldn't get over just how good the biscuits here are and just how simple their menu is but full of everything you could want. Come hungry, leave stuffed and very caffienated.

Yelp
Super cool and fun vibes inside! Had a coffee and a sweet biscuit. It was perfectly buttery and so tasty.

Jessica P.

Yelp
I came here on a weekday morning and didn't know what to anticipate as far as the wait. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long. Order and the staff will bring the food out to you. The food came out pretty quickly. Customer service: The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Costs: not bad for a quick breakfast but may also depend on what you order. Take it easy ($10) - the biscuits and gravy with egg on top was okay. It was a little bit on the bland side, it may have helped to add some type of meat to it. I probably wouldn't order it again. Sausage biscuit ($8) - the sausage biscuit was really food just how it looked..would recommend this over sausage & gravy.

Yelp
I ordered Benny and Hot Blood to-go from Biscuitclub. The food was delicious and the service was friendly even for a takeout order! The place has a cute vibe, though I opted for takeout to skip paying for parking lol . Definitely worth a visit or takeout for a great breakfast or brunch.

Yelp
Super solid food! All the meals are centered around their awesome biscuits and it did not disappoint. The ambiance was a bit different but the food was great so definitely worth trying!

Yelp
Best Biscuit in a Blizzard (try saying that quickly) The ubiquitous biscuit has been with us for hundreds of years in all sorts of soft, hard and water repellent forms. With the common availability of baking soda around 170 years ago, flour biscuits became the leavened delights that we all enjoy making at home. For my travels, the standard hotel breakfast, while filling, never indulges my search for another culinary adventure. So finding a great biscuit place that is worth a seasoned hotel guest trek out in a snowstorm, has to be tasty. That place is the 'Biscuit Club' in downtown Anchorage Alaska. Coming in from the cold, that warm moist air packed with the smells of baking biscuits took the chill off my nose. The culinary team wasn't shy about giving an obvious out of towner a friendly Alaskan "Good Morning". I say obvious since my "I am a tourist" appearance was highlighted wearing a double filled down jacket, extreme cold wool turtleneck underlayer, knit wool cap, lined pants, padded hiking smart wool socks and ankle high snow boots while the Biscuit club team were wearing sleeveless cotton tank tops. After going over the entire biscuit selection and consultation with the team, 'Hot Blooded' was the path to a new taste adventure. Starting from the bottom up with a mic dropped flower biscuit covered in a flowing light tan sausage gravy, topped with a diced Louisiana hot link and garnished with chopped jalapenos, bacon (Canadian and sausage options), graded cheese and chopped greens. There was also a red seasoning that gave it just enough of that sprinkled salty twang that every breakfast benefits from. First, a great biscuit without being too salty or having an over-leavened center. And it was not soaking in butter, which for me is the telltale sign when trying to mask an average baked good. Browned on top just enough on top to keep it firm as the egg and gravy flowed over it. The gravy flavors were complementary to the overall taste pallet without trying to overpower the hot links. The eggs and gravy taste with the biscuit texture is a definite winner. Yes jalapenos and hot links are spicy hot but this combo had enough kick in the pants to get your soul ready to wander around in the snow storm (blizzard to my Southern California mindset) to see more of the 2024 Fur Rondy. There are many other biscuit breakfast menu items, so check the Biscuit Club website for the current list. And for all (like me) that need a sweet treat with their Biscuit Club Alaskan Bulletproof espresso, there are biscuits with jam, honey, and Nutella. I had rice and marshmallow bars to go. Reminded me of coming home from elementary school. The interior has a large seating area that is very colorful and comfortable. Even on mornings when the outside is going to be -1F. Yikes. Definitely was worth the trek there. Website: https://biscuitclubak.com/

Yelp
Super dope and tasty hole in the basement highly recommend for a brunch meal bring your friends and family that visit anchorage here, much better than most popular places.

Yelp
First time eating here and we were pleasantly surprised! The menu looked good on Yelp, so we decided to try it and we are glad we did! We will return! Simple, fresh, delicious. Quiet environment, in the downstairs portion of the 4th Avenue Mall; at least that's we have always known it as. Service was quick & staff very pleasant.

Yelp
I don't like biscuits normally. I was surprised to like these. I went because my husband likes biscuits and gravy. It was a nice surprise.
google avatar

Yelp
Biscuitclub is one of my favorite breakfast spots in town. The food is always hot and fresh, and the staff is friendly (but busy!). I love to get an extra biscuit with jam, as a little treat. This spot can be hard to find, but it's on the backside of the Sunshine Mall, so park in the parking lot and not the street. Know ahead of time that you WILL WAIT in a line, but the food is worth it. Take the time to chat with your neighbors, decide what you're ordering, browse the items they have for purchase, or just sit on your phone. Once you have your food, don't miss the fridge with a variety of hot sauces, and either take your biscuits home to eat or grab a seat at a picnic table in the hall. Then enjoy.

Ashlynn M.

Yelp
Delish! We stopped by Biscuitclub as a last minute breakfast choice & was not disappointed! When we arrived, the line was out the door, but we only stood in like for less than ten minutes. Friendly staff, cute spot, yummy food!
google avatar

Yelp
Who doesn't love a fresh baked biscuit?!!! A little tricky finding this place. Address says 4th street but go down 3rd street and enter there. Small "hole in the wall" place with great food! I came right when they opened to avoid the crowd. Ordered "LA BAMBA" which is a biscuit covered in sausage gravy with some chorizo, eggs, jalapeños, green chilies, and cheddar cheese. It all blended together nicely and was delicious. Next time I might order a second biscuit PLAIN to go with it because I really enjoyed the made from scratch goodness. Limited menu but if you like biscuits this place is a winner!

Crystal K.

Yelp
Great coffee, great breakfast - need I say more? Very friendly staff, fun, quirky ambiance, super creative biscuit breakfasts all music themed. I was very impressed with the coffee, too. Prepare to pay for parking out front, but apps make it easy and it's worth the few bucks for a top tier breakfast.
google avatar

Grant T.

Yelp
Go. Go today but try to get there before 9:30. Amazing food. Awesome staff with great service and in a cool spot. If you're parked on the street and not in a big parking lot, you're on the wrong side. Find it off 3rd

Yelp
Sorry no pictures. 1st time here and have always heard great things. I had the egg and cheese breakfast biscuit. So soft and so good. I also had a lavender latte. They made that perfectly too. I don't recalled what the others got and consumed but it was gone just a quickly and my sandwich, so the long shot is they like there's also.

PennytheBaker

Yelp
I feel like we would've loved this little place, but when we arrived 1/2 hour early on a Sunday morning I stuck my head in the door to ask a simple question and received an exasperated sigh and eye roll from the person behind the counter. We left. Sorry
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Simple and easy. A variety of biscuits and a coffee shop. Nothing too fancy. This place is hidden on the lower level of the blue marketplace building. The entrance is around the north side off the parking lot. They have a variety of biscuits and gravy or biscuits and jam plus a full coffee shop. There's a little bit of seating inside or it's easy to take away too.
google avatar

Bruce C.

Yelp
Fantastic biscuits and biscuit sandwiches at an incredible price. Went there for brunch with full intention on going back when we came through Anchorage again. Plans did not allow that to happen; however, thinking ahead, I bought extra biscuits for our freezer. (Too bad it is so tiny I could only get three.) We stretched those out as long as we could as toasted goodness. Funny thing is, I'm supposed to eat gluten-free. The upset stomach was WORTH EVERY BITE! Now, how can I get Biscuit Club biscuits in my hometown. Hmmm. Also cannot fail to applaud customer service, FANTASTIC! You have to GO TO Biscuit Club. Your stomach and wallet will thank you!

Yelp
First of all the music when we got there was really cool just playing a very nice mix of music The food was spectacular exceeded all I expected And the coffee was served with a smile !!!

Yelp
Bar none the best meal I had in Houston. Jenn was so kind during our service and offered wonderful recommendations for the menu and Anchorage. It was very homey inside.

Yelp
I am not sure why I took so long to review this place, but this is one of my favorites in Anchorage! The biscuit items I always get are flavorful and savory. This is a unique place downtown, sort of a hidden gem. If you do visit, expect to sit in a hallway filled with tables, since the restaurant doesn't have a typical dining room. The Sammy Cooke, biscuit sandwich with an easy egg, grilled cheddar, and bacon is absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Great breakfast spot in Anchorage! Amazing staff and we enjoyed taking to the people in line around us. You know a place is great when the locals are regulars.
