We came for Construction Tyme and had so much fun. The Construction Tyme tickets include the rest of the summer kid’s activities. The excavator and construction equipment were obviously a big hit, and the Corn Crib was a surprising close second. Who knew that sitting in dried corn kernels would be such a hit with kids, but it was!

19SEPT.2024 My first time here and this is a well maintained place. So many great prepared dishes, quick, healthy eats, wines, cheese, baked chips, dips, soups, etc. Wonderful selection of local wines, fresh, local produce, variety of nuts, dried fruits, deli meats, poultry, beef, fruit trays, jams, jellies, vegetables, and pot pies. A quaint little garden mart and homemade ice cream shop (on the outer left side of the Far Market)with a nice selection of flavors to choose from. So many great foods, veggies, and meals to choose from. All the employees are so polite and helpful. Great day to shop and look around.

Google
Love the farm market! Lots of great local selections and eccentric items. We preorder pies during the holidays but plenty of baked treats and breads year round. The ice cream stand / creamery is worth the stop alone!

Google
If I could give this place 13/10 stars I would. My family and I spent many many summers in Stoney Creek, each night accompanied by a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie from Bishops. Fast forward 30 something years later, I requested a strawberry rhubarb pie for my birthday (tomorrow).. not only did I receive one but they set aside one specifically for me. I drove two hours today to be greeted by some of the nicest staff, and the most delicious pie. Thank you for making my birthday weekend so amazing!

Google
We stopped in for a few groceries. The store is well organized and well stocked. They have quite a bit of fresh food as well as other items available. The store was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. They also had a pumpkin patch so you could get your holiday pumpkin. Also they have a nice area with seating, wine etc, and a food truck. It’s conveniently located as it’s close to I-95 and is on the Boston Post Road.

After you eat the apple here, then you will realize what's called a real apple. It really is a great farm with amazing staff. The kids' activity area is a very good addition; my kids really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave. Thanks to all the staff for your wonderful support. I would visit often.

Google
Bishop Market’s smoothies are fine. They have a good variety of flavors and the texture is pleasant. They are not the most intense or memorable, but they are a decent option if you feel like something different or refreshing.

Google
We love the ice cream here and the prices are reasonable. Today we tried a fall special- apple crisp aches. Not what we were expecting but delicious. We thought the nachos would be thin crispy slices of apple but they were waffle cone pieces.

Yelp
A spacious market that sells pretty much everything. There is a large variety of produce. The parking lot has many spots! There is an ice creamery on the side - highly recommend trying some! We tried the blueberry and the jam in the ice cream was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Love going to a full service farm stand. We bought fresh peaches, brussel sprouts, blueberries and a fresh loaf of bread. I was tempted by the apple cider donuts, and the smell of freshly made waffle cones by the ice cream shop. As I was trying to locate cash registers the staff was pleasant and cashiers were friendly.

Yelp
Last Saturday I happened by Bishops Orchards after a many year absence! Glad I did! Produce couldn't have looked fresher! Also quite tasty! The staff is still polite and informative! Its ambiance and display is clean and fresh looking. The Maine Apple Sage sausages made for a wonderful breakfast with scrambled cheesy eggs! The only disappointment was the Korean Spicey ribs. That was missing the spice element and was rather bland! Kind of disappointed! Otherwise, it was a home run!

Yelp
Back in December, we celebrated one of my college friend's weddings. We stayed at the Airbnb, started reading a bunch of information and seen pictures on the walls. Then realized we were staying at the original home! From there, we found down the road was the Bishop's Orchards Guilford Farm Market and Winery. From the apple pie, cold apple cider, apple cider donuts - everything was delicious. The next time we are in Connecticut, we will visit again.

Yelp
Bishop's Orchards in Guilford has grown and prospered with time. It used to be a small but great kept secret place to find fabulous produce for years. They have streamlined their operation and now provide a phenomenal selection of all kinds of fresh and prepared foods. The apples this year are especially amazing and quite possibly the most delicious ever. I was very impressed with both the service and the selection. It is no longer a secret as the place was busier than Grand Central Station in New York.

Yelp
The service and food was wonderful.I love how they had the Dubai milk shake.I highly recommend fr his place to anyone and it's kid friendly

Yelp
My husband and I like to try new wineries in CT and have the CT wine trail passports (you get them stamped at the preselected wineries). We decided to visit Bishop's Orchard Winery (as it shows in our passport booklet) even though it was farther away for us than some others. It took about an hour to get there (with traffic). Upon arrival, we see nothing resembling a winery (or grapevines!) so we stopped and asked an employee, who told us to go to the back of the store (YES, we learned that Bishop's really is a farm market-grocery store with an ice cream shop). We assumed a door in the back would lead us outside, or to some area where we could relax and sample wines. When we got to the back, we saw a 10ft (?) long ledge that was a "bar", but only a sticky note on said ledge stating that someone would be back in 15 minutes (great customer service right off the bat - NOT). We perused the menu and saw no wines made from grapes...we asked another employee where the seating area was and he said that there wasn't any. You could get a tasting flight of fruit wines but it was done at this wooden slab/counter, STANDING. Not at all a vineyard experience, let alone a winery experience. I've been to about 100 wineries/vineyards (Napa/Sonoma/Long Island/upstate NY and CT) and NOTHING was worse/more disappointing than this. We googled wineries close by and found one only 10 minutes away (interestingly NOT included in the Ct Wine passport) and decided to try it and it was adorable; the wines were mostly pleasant as well. Located up a hill with pretty views, stone patio (some parts were covered for heat/rain protection), a charming indoor seating area and a terrific balcony jutting away from the building with limited seating but awesome views! Peach trees on premises as well as grapevines! A big hurray for an almost bummer of a day with our experience at Bishop's. Unless you want overpriced "gourmet" food from their store - steer clear of the BISHOP'S "winery"...! PS: also spoke to customer service (2 teenaged girls who blandly and lamely proffered an apology, but we couldn't be mad at them) ; our wrath is that Bishop's is misrepresenting their space and offerings; and CT WINE PASSPORT and CT WINE COUNTRY are allowing this deceitful practice. If contemplating wine along the shoreline, try Rose Winery in North Branford!

Yelp
Finally got around to check out bishops orchards. It's been on my list for a year now. I HAD to try their blitz and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered their pumpkin pie blitz it was so yummy with actual pie pieces. Would definitely be back. Parking is easy with a large parking lot in the back. Super easy to order dessert at the stall outside.

Yelp
Great people, the fresh fruit was amazing and the fresh cider!! The hard cider was ok but the fresh cider made it up for it. Love seating outdoor and getting food not only from the food trucks but also from the market. Will come back here for sure. This is so easy stop from the Interstate

Yelp
Don't miss their apple cider. It's excellent with lots of fiber on the bottom. They have a supermarket inside and a lot of baked goods fruits, vegetables. There's ice cream, too. There's a gardening store outside. Service was good. There's a lot of parking, and you can go to the orchard, too. I highly recommend the cider!

Yelp
The blueberry crops ate SOOO good this year!! Second time coming to pick your own blueberries. Everyone is very nice, 1 quart of blueberries is the smallest size and there is more than enough!

Yelp
Recommended: Definitely! A delightful find. Overall: A wonderful expansion of a beloved spot, offering great food, drinks, and live music in an exceptionally family-friendly setting. Snapshot: Food: 4/5 Drink: 4/5 Vibe: 5/5 Service: 5/5 ‍‍ Family-Friendly: 5/5 Highlights: -Perfect For: A family day out with a mix of food, drinks, and entertainment -Don't Miss: The live music! -Bonus Tip: Great for families - plenty of space for strollers and play pens for little ones. All The Details: The Red Barn at Bishop's Orchards is a fantastic new addition to a place I've cherished since my college days. This amazing tent setup with food, drinks, and live music is a real game-changer. It's exceptionally family-friendly; we easily brought our stroller up to the table, and there was ample room for our daughter to run around and enjoy looking at the animals. I noticed several families cleverly bringing play pens for their babies to enjoy the outdoors while they relaxed with drinks and music - a genius idea! The staff, as always at Bishop's, were lovely and accommodating. The drink selection was pretty good, though beer choices were somewhat limited. It's great to see that they offer their own house beverages and some non-alcoholic options too. The biggest surprise was the quality of the food. The pork bun was reasonably priced and surprisingly tasty. While it's not five-star dining, the solid food options, fine beverages, and the abundance of space to enjoy the outdoors and live music make this one of my new favorite spots in the state. It might not be a hidden gem since it seems quite popular, but it's certainly a place we'll be returning to 100%.

Yelp
Summer is the best time to enjoy ice cream and the cones here with ice cream are a must try. The service here is very good as attendants will personally take your order, and close the window until they completely serve you your ice cream. The attendants are very polite as they explain scoops and waffle options to you before your purchase. The ice cream options are numerous to choose from and fit your sweet palette.

Yelp
Great all rounder; from the pastries to the wine/ liquor selection. Great place for events and provides for a great venue as well.

Yelp
I grew up in CT yet somehow only just discovered Bishop's while coming back home to visit family--and now it's a must stop every time my husband and I go back to NYC. The farm market is like a foodie playground! Of course the fruit itself is outstanding; I'm still dreaming of the teeny tiny super sweet raspberries we positively inhaled two pints of. But also, having grown up around orchards I know many of these markets do not really make their own products -- however all of the Bishop's branded items (and there are LOTS) ARE made with their own fruits and all natural ingredients. Their cider is delicious, as are their fruit-rich bbq sauces (the cherry bbq sauce is chock full of real cherry chunks and our new go-to for bbq'd chicken). The Bishop's winery products are all unique flavors you won't see elsewhere and again just taste like real fruit (love the apple currant wine especially. My husband just designated the berry blend hard cider "the best cider ever." The market also has a wide selection of really good prepared foods of all sorts (hello, edible cookie dough) as well as products from local purveyors (a mozzarella from West Haven was a recent favorite). And after shopping the market, it's only natural to pop around its corner for ice cream from the Bishop's Creamery -- super rich as only homemade ice cream can be, of course, but worth the splurge for any of the inventive flavors (and props to the scooper who layered two of them for the entirety of a waffle cone -- technique I don't think I've ever seen before ).

Yelp
Cute spot. Reasonable prices and portions were nice. Friends all got different flavors and all were happy

Melissa L.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious. They have a small outdoor patio right next to the creamery- it's clean and pleasant to relax and eat your delicious ice cream Treats. Definitely try the apple cider donut blizzard- it's worth it

Yelp
We took the grandkids to the Bishop's Orchards fall activity center - it is in the same spot as the apple picking. It was fun for them, although for the price, really not all that much to do. Ended up paying $58 to get in (3 kids, 2 adults plus an extra $2 per person weekend upcharge) - Yes, adults have to pay even though it is mandatory you go in with the kids. We kept them busy for about a hour. Did not do the apple picking. It was $25 for a small bag - I would've had to get 3 of them!!! I remember when you picked and they weighed what you picked. Lol, how the times are changing!!!

Michelle W.

Yelp
In the area, so we had to stop by on the way home! Long line but good service! This Sundae did not disappoint!

Yelp
Our absolute favorite family spot for the fall! We drive here almost every weekend, rain or shine, to enjoy the beautiful outdoors...picking apples, picnic lunches, great children's activities, and wide open spaces. The workers here are all super friendly and actually happy, adding the cherry on top!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun and beautiful day picking apples and tasting wine with friends! It's a shame that the season is starting to end so it was slim pickings but we made the best of it! My only complaint was that the website didn't explicitly mention that pets were not welcome. We brought along our friend's new puppy, and our friend was unable to pick as a result because she couldn't bring the puppy along. Luckily, the puppy was welcome everywhere else other than the store! Will definitely be back for all the fruit (and the tasty wine) next year!

Yelp
Love shopping here when in town over the grocery stores. Star off for the high prices and limited variety on some things
google avatar

Mayra R.

Yelp
They have the cutest set up for fall activities. They did move the pumpkin patch to their new England rd. Pick your own location.
google avatar

MICHELE M.

Yelp
Came on a weekday and it was uneventful. Nice grocery selection, fresh fruit, but pricey. Those in Jersey might be reminded of Fairway shops. Did not quite get the sense of "homemade" from the bakery. Pricier but I think part of what you pay for is charm. I'm sure it's a ton of fun on weekends of during fruit picking events.

Annette A.

Yelp
Took grandchildren to pick your own/fall activity center. The price was outrageous! $25 for an 8 qt. bag of apples plus a "general admission" per person of $2 for 6 of us for a total of $12. Paid $40 for combo ticket for 2 grandsons and $30 for 2 adult combo tickets. One parent helped their son and the other walked around taking pics at $15 ea. (we were unable to join in order to avoid addt'l $30 adult combo fee for 2 and watched from afar leaving early frustrated). Bottom line, it cost 6 people $107 to enter!! That should not happen in today's economical struggles! Shocked that Bishop's charges these high fees for children/family to share what should be an enjoyable experience with family. We will not return next year!

Yelp
Bishops is a highly recommended location for both locals and tourists. The reality is if you are looking for average groceries or regular shopping there are better choices like Big Y or stop and shop. That being said Bishops has some of the best apple cider and apple cider donuts for sweet tooth's! They do trivia nights all through Thursday evenings during summer until end of Oct. additionally they have a run of musical talents who come play every Friday and Saturday night. Evenings make great meeting spots, date locations, or just relaxing time. Ice cream is also worth a shot but they have stiff competition for that with Ashley's.
google avatar

Dawn L.

Yelp
I love all of there prepared meals produce as well as ice cream. Everything is fresh lots of employees to ask anything . A little pricey but we are in guilford and you get what you pay for so it's ok.

Cathy C.

Yelp
I like shopping here but they must have new people cooking. The chicken cutlets are too salty. I used to buy the chicken cranberry and walnut but that even taste different.

Yelp
Bishop's Orchard's Farm Market & Winery is a gourmet market and craft winery that opened in Guilford, Connecticut in 1957. The orchard and farm was founded by Walter Goodrich Bishop in 1871. His son Burton Walter Bishop later joined the business. The first commercial Orchard was set out in 1909 and more were added in the coming decades. Crops grown on the property include apples, peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, beans and other vegetables. Burton passed away in 1942, but when the business was officially incorporated in 1957, it was named B.W. Bishop & Sons. In 1974, the business purchased Tollgate Orchards in Northford. It is now known as Bishop's Orchards Northford Farm. In 2005, Bishop's opened their own winery on the premises. All wines are produced using fruits that are grown in the orchards. I've been visiting Bishop's Orchards for as long as I can remember. My parents used to take me when I was a small boy and now I take my own son. It's a family ritual to go there in the Autumn for apple picking or pumpkin picking and then heading to the farm market afterwards. On my most recent visit, I took my son to the Pumpkin Patch to get some carving pumpkins, sugar pumpkins, decorative gourds and cornstalks for our Halloween display at home. We then took a trip inside the farm market and got some Apple Cider Donut Holes (to make some Apple Cider Mimosas for brunch), Apple Cider Donut Holes, Sapphire Swirl (a blend of their Blue Raspberry Sherbert and Vanilla Ice Cream), Butternut Squash & Apple Soup, and other seasonal favorites. My son loved the donut holes! In addition to their fruit wines, Bishop's also makes a few varieties of hard cider. Visiting Bishop's Orchards is an October tradition for my family. We'll continue to do so for years to come!
google avatar

Jean S.

Yelp
Usually love all the pies, but I got the pumpkin last weekend and it's like rubber! Dont know what they used making it but you literally can cut a piece and flap it around. Nasty. They are definitely also on the pricey side.
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
I love supporting this locally owned business when I buy my groceries, and their Little Red Bar(n) is a family friendly outdoor dining spot with live music. The kids can run around in the field while adults enjoy some drinks and snacks or dinner from the rotating food trucks.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Came here on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! The ice cream was really fresh and they had a great variety of flavors. We had a great time browsing the market and took home some of the fudge, which is some of the best I've had! I definitely want to come back and pick my own fruit, have a tasting at the winery, or visit the Little Red Barn.
google avatar

Sabrina A.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to pick blueberries and strawberries! They're not crowded like other spots in the area and plenty of areas to pick from so you don't have to go searching for fruit. Conveniently located near Guilford high school with plenty of signage so you can't miss it! We look forward to coming here every year!
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
Great market, loaded with an abundance of produce, meats, fresh baked goods, prepared entrees and so much more! If you're traveling on 95 in this neck of the woods you need to stop by. It's just minutes off the highway
google avatar

Sho R.

Yelp
They give a good quantity of ice cream. I was their only for the ice cream, though I ended up buying something from their store, and went to pick apple in their farm, which was 2 miles away from the store. Camp coffee and black raspberry were good flavors of ice cream. Pistachio ice cream had a good number of whole pistachio, but flavor was little lesser than I would like.
google avatar

Arthur L.

Yelp
Taking our family up to Bishop's to pick apples is an annual tradition for us. We'll have 3 generations happily picking the current crop of apples. And don't forget to save some time to visit their store. It seems to get bigger every year!

Chelsea M.

Yelp
The food we had was delicious! The service was fast and the girls working the window were sweet and helpful! The vibes and ambiance was super homey and peaceful! We also had a chance to meet Brad and he was super nice as well! Visiting from Texas, we were super excited to be there and the vibes and treats did not disappoint!

Yelp
After seeing the new sign saying now serving breakfast sandwiches, I couldn't wait to go. Well, I stood in line to order for almost 25 minutes( there were only 2 people ordering ahead of me). I debated whether to leave or not. But I stayed. I ordered and after waiting for one bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for a 1/2 hour, I inquired if they ran out of eggs. They said no. I had to be somewhere 10 minutes earlier. I waited 10 more minutes, no sandwich. I said please cancel my order as now I'm 20 minutes late to where I had to be. They ignored me, another 15 minutes, still no sandwich. I pleaded to get my money back as I still have no sandwich and the people who ordered ahead of me are still waiting too. I asked again, please cancel my order and give me my money back. No positive response! What happened to"the customer is always right"? FInally after waiting another 10 minutes I went inside to customer service to try to get my money back. Hallelujah! My sandwich is ready. I run to the ca with it to get to where I am now 50 minutes late. I open the aluminum foil wrapping and take a bite, it's dripping all over the place. The egg was not even the slightest bit cooked. It was awful! I should have walked away right in the beginning, when I was waiting to put my order in. I will never step foot in Bishop's again. I usually go once a week. Never again! For those of you who want a egg sandwich, I beg you to get up for work 2 hours early if you plan on going to Bishop's.

Yelp
Bishop's market has very good high quality produce. Some of it is grown on their farm while a lot of it is not. I've always been impressed and pleased with the quality and the selection. Their meat selection is also very good, but it is on the expensive side. Their apple cider is also the best that I've had. The taste is perfectly sweet and crisp. I am not a big fan of their premade take home foods. Most of what I've bought is just ok but not worth the price. The only exception, in my opinion, is their soup. Their soups are flavorful and definitely taste homemade. They are too a bit expensive though.
google avatar

Johnny N.

Yelp
Yep, as I expected, put that apple brandy on a meter.... 157 proof.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Adorable Market. Local food from farmers around. The produce is very fresh and tasty. Eating local is SO important for surrounding communities and even your own health. Lots of fun specialty foods and vg/gf treats!
google avatar

Jan R.

Yelp
I love this place. I frequently travel to New York as I have a daughter and her family that lives there. I always like to stop here for their incredibly fresh and beautiful produce and their fine prepared foods. They also have a wine bar with their own wines made with an apple base. Lovely for any occasion. I pick some up for Thanksgiving dinner and it was well received. They also have an outside area with greenery and plants and in the season wreaths and more. Nice place for a day trip.
google avatar

Ana B.

Yelp
This is a lovely place to spend a fall day in. It is a beautiful orchard with lots to see and do. Here you can apple pick, pumpkin pick, get food, wine or beer from the food trucks, as well as enjoy delicious, endless flavors of ice cream. There are also sweet llamas for your viewing pleasure. There is a little grocery store that has everything you may need, including wine, as expected it is a little costly, but it's handy if you're planning to enjoy an impromptu picnic you'll find it all here, and a lovely spot to take in the fall scenery. You can certainly also come here in the summer too for blueberry picking, but I think the fall has more to offer.

Yelp
We are traveling and the festive look of this shop pulled us in. We were thrilled, like kids in a candy store, looking at all the unique items they have to offer. Most things look like small batch products and the apple cider doughnuts are a MUST. Everything we bought TASTED GREAT! Happy with the purchases made. Unfortunately our experience was abruptly and negatively impacted by the staff. As we were looking to be rung up, there was one young women on a till and no other lanes seamed to be manned. The customer in front of us forgot their wallet and we were in no rush, happy to be there in fact, just enjoying the evening and excited to try some new foods. There were 3 young employees gathered at the bagging area talking and giggling, it was the end of their shift (5:50pm) and I totally wasn't bothered by this. I wasn't bothered by this. That is. until another employee, walked up to the till next to the line we were in. My mother asked him "are you open?" and received no response from the boy but we watched as a women walked into the line and was being rung up so we changed lines. The girls and the end of the till were laughing their heads off, CLEARLY MOCKING my mother for asking the question. I hear "are you open" in a patronizing voice "hahaha" being completely and blatantly mocked by these girls who had no idea why the question was asked, and it wasn't about them! My mother didn't hear and that's the only reason I didn't say something right there, I didn't want her mood to be ruined along with mine. Needless to say our happiness turned into frustration and irritation and we left the store. Customer service is LACKING. Keep your comments to yourself, especially in front of guests.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE stopping in at Bishop's throughout the year. Their apples are always some of the best for making apple pie and apple pie jam, everyone in my family who have had my jam now rave about how delicious the apples taste. The store is really cute, I love the train that runs around throughout, I totally have to remember to bring my dad here sometime. Their veggie chips that they make are incredible as well, they're almost like candy they're so good. Everything here is super delicious and fresh, and my husband is now also a fan of their apple cider donuts.
google avatar

Emma K.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to stop when traveling on 95. The cider at the start of the season has great flavor, with a tartness that's perfect for mulling. I picked up jugs of apple cider to share and a six pack of donuts which will be lucky to last the week. I love their spiced apple butter, perfect for a crisp fall day on home made French toast.
google avatar

Yelp
Biggest and best farm market in Connecticut, laid out and priced so that you can do a full grocery trip if you're feeling mildly deluxe. They grow some of their own fruits and vegetables, and they also import produce so you can have basics year round (the difference is always labeled). This is the place to show up for fiddleheads and ramps (in season) if you don't want to forage your own. Other than produce, Bishop's is outstanding for cider donuts, pie, the little energy-bar-type snack chunks on the wall to your left as you pass produce, and non-grape wines. You can always get local brown eggs, laid right down the road, and local beef. The ice cream is better than supermarket brands, not quite as rich as Ashley's. They do soups and pre-fab dinners, too. It's a very good place to buy New England-y things like apple butter and maple-glazed popcorn. Some summer days, there is a mini-Van Wilgen's garden shop outside. There's also a G-gauge rail line running around above your head.

Yelp
This is a day trip destination. Not only do they have their winery tasting bar with a delicious array of grape and fruit wines, with a very nice bartender to boot, they have a grocery store with local and organic foods. Their bakery smells so delicious I physically stopped to find something to bring home, which was completely unplanned. (In the end, I found a soft M&M and chocolate chip cookie to fortify me for the ride home) In some ways it's a bit like Stew Lenard's in that there is something to see everywhere - above the cashiers they have a toy train, their banana display is topped with a stuffed monkey, and they have a fruit-based rocking horse. Outside has their creamery with plenty of seating.

Yelp
They have a nice assortment of various foods as a grocery store. Prices are a bit higher than your average grocery store. They also offer various amenities like the Barn which does live music and food trucks in evenings. An ice cream kiosk that closes at 9pm sharp (I say that because we were waiting to long and they closed on us at 9:01). It's a nice local hang and they offer rv parking for travelers.
