Where to Find Sweet, Creamy Cannoli in D.C. | Eater DC

"One of the newest cannoli contenders in town comes from self-taught baker Nicole Liberatore and her New Jersey-born husband, Dominick, who send out sweets from their Annandale ghost kitchen. Bisnonna, which means “great grandmother” in Italian, makes a whopping 10 types of memorable cannoli from scratch. A floral and herby Dubrovnik conjures tastes of a favorite Croatian vacation, while their honeymoon inspires a Thai coffee variety with freshly ground cardamom. And D.C.’s women-owned Marvelous Marj Cocktails spikes a spring option with limoncello. Order online for pickup or delivery only." - Tierney Plumb

Outstanding desserts and customer service! We loved the Cannolis the Tiramisu and the Rainbow Cake slices. My wife and kids loved the cannolis for mothers day. Im a big fan of thr traditional flavors with a spin on them and they did a great job. Next time I need to get the raspberry tiramisu. The owner was really friendly. We'll be back!

Nicole’s little bakery is an absolute hidden gem! My groom and I both come from Italian families and knew we wanted Italian pastries at our wedding in Orange, VA, but we were doubtful that we would find anything in the area. A friend discovered Bisnonna on Instagram and we were so excited when we saw all our favorite Italian pastries we ate growing up on her website. We were then absolutely elated when Nicole said they would deliver to Orange, VA on our wedding weekend, which happened to be Easter weekend! The pastries were beyond a huge hit! Not only were they absolutely delicious but they were beautifully displayed. So many of our family and friends ran over to tell us how amazing the pastries were and wanted to know where we found these outside of New York. We could not recommend Bisnonna more and we definitely plan on making Bisnonna an anniversary tradition (if not much more!). Thank you again Bisnonna for helping to make our wedding day so special and so personalized to us!!

Google
We drove from Arlington and waited over an hour to try their cannolis and I was disappointed. I can't recommend this bakery if you're looking for guaranteed good cannolis, since the day I went the cannolis weren't it. The shells for the 4 we ordered were all overcooked and had a weird chewy texture. They are also extremely overpriced at $4 a mini cannoli. The classic also does not come with chocolate chips though the description in the shop lists it. I've had better stateside cannoli in NJ and Boston. Cannoli can't compare to that of Italy. Update: don't you love it when businesses reply to responses and instead of actually responding to any of the points they invalidate the review?

We legitimately have driven 45 minutes from Greenbelt, MD to pick up the most amazing Italian pastries from Bisnonna. I'm from Long Island, NY so I grew up with good Italian bakery treats at every family holiday event, and these are better than anything I remember from growing up. Everything we've gotten from Bisnonna Bakeshop is absolutely delicious, and we also appreciate all the beautiful attention to detail in how they package and present everything. Yesterday was my birthday and instead of birthday cake, we got birthday cannolis and sfogliatella from the Easter menu and it was heaven. If we didn't live so far away (and loathe driving to VA...) we'd be there every week...!

My taste in Italian deserts is quite limited and honestly I love what Bisnonna has on offer, my wife however grew up with Italian deserts and will eat nothing else in this area but Bisnonna Bakeshop! I think we have become their best customer as my wife just can’t get enough! (And neither can I!) The cannolis are simply divine and they are always coming up with new unique and decadent flavors! They have pop ups on Saturdays and if they had more I would easily be 20 pounds heavier!

Google
I have been coming to Nicole since I was picking up cannolis in a parking lot. The shop and product selection has grown since then without an impact on quality. I am from NJ and have been spoiled by really great Italian desserts. Nicole brings a little slice of this to Northern Virginia. Some of our favorites are the rainbow and lemon ricotta cookies, the cannoli cake, and her seasonal items which are always ridiculous. To add to the great products, she is so so kind. I love visiting the shop. Highly highly recommend.

Google
I heard about Bisnonna from my father and had been waiting to give them a try but I never had the opportunity to get my order in in advance. Fast-forward several months and my brother stumbled upon their bakery at Tysons. They were almost completely sold out but still had a few pistachio cannolis, which he brought by. The cannolis definitely lived up to the expectations. The shell was perfect, crispy and just right in terms of thickness. The filling was delicious, creaming and smooth. If you're looking for a standout cannoli look no further

Google
The absolute BEST cannolis in the DMV!!! All of them are fabulous - I specifically love the Classic, Pistachio and Black Sesame cannolis. Love how Nicole has some fun, seasonal flavors as well! The best part of the whole experience is that the cannolis are filled to order so the shell remains deliciously crisp. They are definitely priced for the quality you get, I taste REAL ricotta in the filling and its so delicious! I've had the pleasure of trying her cannoli cake and that is also amazing. You won't be dissapointed!

Yelp
I stopped in for cannolipalooza and so glad I did! The staff was very friendly. I ordered 6 cannolis and a thumbprint cookie. The thyme almond thumbprint cookie was definitely the star. Wow! I want more! Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for sweet treats.

Yelp
My fiancé and I stopped into this dessert spot on June 7th to try after finding it on yelp! We went into hoping to get the sampler pack as he absolutely is obsessed with Cannoli's. Upon walking in we were greeted immediately after we informed her it was our first time her she gave background information on the business (this is actually 3 different bakeries in one!). We told her we were looking for the cannoli's which she informed us there were only 3 (maybe 4) options today as to reduce waste they don't keep a large stock of items in the bakery and majority of their business comes from online orders (We now know what to do!). We understand not wanting to waste though as it drives up business prices and just overall ends up being wasted in the trash. So we selected 2 of their take home kits which come with multiple cannoli's in each and then in the fridge by the checkout they have the fillings in premeasured bags. We also saw some pride sliced cake that we took to try. Overall everything tasted great and we will definitely be back. Out of the regular cannoli and the banana pudding one. The banana pudding is definitely the winner! The pride sliced cake was also good and most and whatever that flavor was OMG i would eat a ton of.

Yelp
Holy Cannoli! My best friend served a cannoli birthday cake at a party and my socks were BLOWN OFF by how good this cake was... and I'm not even that big of a cake person. The slices were extra, extra big and STACKED with layers of cinnamon-vanilla pound cake, cannoli filling, chocolate chips, with buttercream and EVEN MORE cannoli on top. My friends are all Italian and they said this was one of the best versions of cannoli they had ever had. I am not Italian and this was one of the best cakes I've ever had, periodt. I just checked Bisonna's website and it looks like they have tons of Italian cookies and goodies that would be perfect to gift around the holidays. Can't wait to check them out again soon.

Yelp
I ordered the cookie box for my husband's birthday and I'm so glad I did. These cookies were amazing. We are suckers for good Italian cookies. My favorite were the pine nut ones, I'm not sure what they're called. We will definitely be coming back for cannolis.

Yelp
Heard great things about Bisnonna Bake shop, and as an Italian/American from NY, I feel like I've missing out on all the great pastries that I've grown up with and love. I was at the Fairfax City Fall Festival today, and was excited to see that they would be there! So I made a B-Line to their tent and checked out their wares. I ordered cannolis, pignoli cookies(almond cookies with pignoli nuts) and sfogliatelles (lobster tails). I was transported back to NY and filled with delicious memories of dessert at my family table on a Sunday afternoon! If you're craving some delicious Italian desserts, or if you want to take a stroll down memory lane, you have to try Bisnonna Bakery! mangia e divertiti (eat up and enjoy)

Yelp
Bisnonna provided the most beautiful and delicious assortment of Italian desserts for our wedding. I loved them, and our guests raved about them, especially the pistachio cannoli and Italian rainbow cookies. I had a specific vision in mind of a table overflowing with gorgeous Italian cookies and Bisnonna helped us achieve that, even with our venue being outside their delivery range, by helping us with packaging and transport consultation. I'm obsessed with the results and can't wait to come back and order desserts here on the regular!

Yelp
Went back for cannolipalooza and it was unbelievably delicious. The individual tiramisu was fantastic as well. Definitely will need to order again!

Yelp
Ordered a cake and some cannoli for my husband's birthday. The cake was tasty- not too dense and full of flavor. Maybe would have liked slightly fewer apples but all around a well formed tasty cake! The cannoli were very good. I like that the shells were separate so we could fill the creme when we were ready to eat. Very happy to find an Italian bakery! Look forward to trying other baked goods soon! Especially the newly added cannoli cake!

Yelp
Yes and yes! The Yelp Fam points us towards the right direction, once again. Located in Tyson's Corner Center on the lower level (across Barnes and Noble). This bakeshop is a cannoli lovers dream. Seating is available and everything is super clean, neat, and organized. The owner is kind, welcoming, and down to earth. It was so nice meeting her! She makes beautiful and delicious works of art. Our goodies were neatly wrapped. Every single thing we ordered was on point. It was all so fresh, flavorful, made with quality ingredients, perfect consistency, and presented beautifully. The cannolis are incredibly easy to eat, which is very dangerous. The shell is light and crisp. The fillings are smooth, creamy, flavorful, not overly sweet. Just perfect! I'm so glad we got a chance to visit.

Yelp
I've had my eye on Bisnonna Bakeshop for a while. It sounded so good that I wanted to try them ASAP. However...in the beginning, they didn't have a fixed location. Thus, I was pleased to see that they have one in Tysons Corner. This past Saturday, I went looking for them. My thought was that they had a kiosk outside Barnes and Noble. Seeing no such kiosk, I was about to give up. When I turned around to leave, I found them. They have a spot outside the former location of Gordon Biersch. Not really a shop per se but a fenced off area, complete with 2 gates and some display cases. I was there around 4 p.m. and it was clear that they were starting to run out of items. There were still 4 cannolis left, so I ordered 2 of them. I like the way they do the cannolis---they don't fill them until your order them. I asked for vanilla filling. It turned out to be vanilla with chocolate chips, which was fine. Looking around, I spotted some slices of cake for sale. The cake was an olive oil one with apples and a maple frosting, so I added that to the order. The clerk who filled my order was very friendly and patient. One thing I didn't care for that much --- After you scan your CC, a screen pops up asking how much you want to tip. The clerk, without prompting, said I didn't have to leave a tip. But...how could I not? So, I left 15%. The whole thing was kind of awkward. I'm just sayin'... As for the goodies --- We had the cannolis later in the evening. I had refrigerated them for a few hours. They held up very well. The shell stayed in tact while eating it, which we appreciated. We both wished that they had amped up the filling as it seemed to have very little flavor. On the positive side, we were glad that they didn't go heavy on the chocolate chips. The next night we shared the slice of cake. My husband said he thought the cake had an almost fruit cake texture. I agreed but said it wasn't as dense as a fruit cake. The apple pieces were quite noticeable and added nice flavor. The maple frosting had a delicate flavor, which we both liked. Sometimes maple flavoring can be a bit too much. This wasn't the case here. We would definitely visit them again. Hopefully, we can try more of their offerings. It's nice to see more bakeries coming to the area.

Yelp
Bisnonna Bakeshop is hands-down the best Italian pastry shop in the region! It is so hard to find pastries of this quality outside the NY-NJ area, but Nicole has brought them to us in the DMV Her menu features items that are not found elsewhere, and it is easy to tell that they are crafted with the best ingredients and baked with care. Bisnonna's pastries are reminiscent of the Italian desserts from my childhood, and usually taste even better than what I remember!

Yelp
TLDR: Five stars because so many cannolis out there are awful and these are actually good, but maybe 4 stars because there's room for improvement. My usual cannoli place opened in 1921, and my family has gone there ever since. I'm the 4th (maybe 5th?) generation to ride or die with them, but ordering cannoli to be shipped to VA, while perfectly fine, is pretty expensive. So I appreciate that just like my regular place, Bisnonna doesn't fill the shells in advance and will give you piping bags for a to go order. What drew me here are the flavor options. My usual place is full on traditional. Their pastry certificates dating to the 1890s and issued in Italy prior to immigrating to the US are on the wall. They make perfect Italian sweets, exactly as they always did, so they don't really branch out in flavor. I'm... mixed but generally pretty positive with my Bisnonna experience. Cannoli Shells: Some of the shells tasted kind of strongly of the oil they are fried in, and it overpowered the filling. This was unexpected because other shells of the same flavor did not. I've never had the shells at my usual place taste like oil, but I'll make concessions to get a local cannoli. Classic Ricotta: Per usual I hated the chocolate in the filling, which is a good sign. Means it was done right and the right amount. (Hating the chocolate is a ME thing, not a problem with how it's made). The ricotta part was good. If I wanted just a few traditional cannolis without a 6 hour round trip drive, or shipping costs, I definitely order here. If they could do a special order without the chocolate? Yes please. Pistachio: Was... good? I want to say good. It was very strange because I'm not used to it, but I liked it. In fact, I'm gonna order it for my mom to try. I couldn't tell if the flavor came off a bit artificial or not, but that's a line walked on everything pistachio flavored, including ice creams and gelato. Still, I'm ordering it again so that says something. Limoncello: The cannoli I most looked forward to. Not bad, but maybe not one I'd try again. I think it was more to do with the texture of the filling being different from the others, which may be a matter of citrus causing a textural change. Top marks though for packaging, and for color coating which filling goes with which shell. I'm looking forward to trying other flavors soon, and getting my mom's opinion.

Yelp
I ordered a box full of rainbow cookies to give to friends around Christmas. Shipping was fast, and the owner is very responsive! More importantly the cookies are FANTASTIC! I've been searching for real Italian rainbow cookies and usually only find mass produced disappointment. Not here! These were fresh and delicious. I will definitely be a repeat customer next time I want to treat myself and my friends. Also looking forward to trying more of their offerings

Yelp
Great Italian Bakery! I no longer have to drive to Vaccaro's in Baltimore for my pignolis and cannolis. I can get great ones right here in Fairfax. The owner is charming, and she is proud of her product (as well she should be). Give it a try, you will be glad you did. Addictive!

Laura F.

Yelp
Bisnonna provided cannoli and biscotti for our wedding, and they were a huge hit, especially for my very-Italian family who has strong opinions on Italian desserts. It was by far the tastiest bite at our wedding! We've loved their food so much that since the wedding, we've had desserts from Bisnonna for our first wedding anniversary, baby shower, and baby's baptism and they impress every single time. I'm pretty sure they'll be providing desserts for every one of our major family celebrations from now on! Their flavors and quality never miss and Nicole is a dream to work with when we've had larger catering orders.

Yelp
I recently moved to Fairfax and was searching for good Italian food. I stumbled across Bisnonna in a Northern Virginia mag article, found them on IG, and saw that they were having a pop-up the next day. The various pastries I purchased were unbelievably good. The limoncello cannoli's were a perfect mix of sweet ricotta, lemon, and crisp shells, which they filled to order. The Italian rainbow cookies had just the right amount of almond flavor; the lemon ricotta cookies were splendid; but the star of the show was the single-serve cup of pistachio raspberry tiramisu. It may be the best dessert I have ever eaten; the creaminess, the perfect blend of raspberry, coffee, and rum. I cannot wait to purchase an entire tiramisu for Easter! I saw on their IG that they are perfecting their zeppole -sign me up! I look forward to tasting all of their creations!

Yelp
My wife and I placed an order on Jan 14th for Feb 13th, a pre valentines day treat. We ordered an order of Pistachio Cannoli and Thai Coffee Cannoli. We opted to have them filled instead of filling in a bag. While we enjoyed the flavors a lot, we wished we would not have them filled as the shells were a bit soft. I would place an order for a treat when people visit.

Yelp
As an Italian living in the US I'm so happy I've found bisnonna bakeshop and won't order Italian baked goods from anywhere else. Undoubtedly the most authentic cannoli I've found the US, the fluffiest cake I've ever tasted and a perfectly balanced tiramisu! Nicole is seriously talented and Dominick is always accommodating and on time for deliveries and pickup. Can't wait to try even more of their stuff!
google avatar

Mariya G.

Yelp
I found out about this bake shop through yelp and my husband and I decided to treat ourselves for Valentine's Day. I didn't realize at first that they didn't have a physical shop and they had a pop up for a while but now it's just a pick up. The pick up was very easy and quick. We preordered Thai coffee and pistachio cannolis but all their flavored sounded delicious. I will definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Delicious cannoli!they pipe the filling fresh and the shell is crisp and thick. I tried the beesting but there wasn't much honey or almond flavor in the shell or the filling though
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
I really wanted to give this place a higher rating because their Instagram looked so cute and delicious and they were kind and attentive when telling us a flavor we chose wasn't available that week. However, when we got our cannolis we quickly realized that, to us, they tasted bland. The only one we actually liked was the pistachio cannoli, but the original one did not taste very good at all to us and we ended up not eating the rest and just the pistachio ones. We did like the shells and thought they tasted really good for a cannoli shell. On the other hand, their pop up location is right by the B&N on the first floor which is super convenient since it's next to the parking lot you can just pop right in. We wish them the best with the rest of their pop up time!
google avatar

Yelp
Cannolis have a crunchy shell and are delicious! Filling added at pick up for optimal freshness. The rocky road booscotti, lemon tart and sfogiatelle were great as well.

Yelp
I have ordered Cannolis and cookies from Bisnonna and everything is always so fresh and delicious! Highly recommend this bakery!!

Yelp
Tried Bisnonna this summer and was so excited that they are popping up at Tysons 1 now. Have gotten there in the AM early and thank goodness I did; the line was already forming before mall opened! Used the pre-order system to make sure I got my goods before they sold out since they have gone so fast, and it was easy and convenient. You can even pull up right outside for curbside to avoid the mall parking. The cannoli is amazing- best I have ever had, but DO NOT sleep on the Pinenut (pignoli) cookies or biscotti. Love supporting small businesses and seeing them thrive with the big guys to the point of selling out in 2 hours...this is a hidden gem- so try them out, but be quick...Northern VA has discovered them and cannot get them fast enough!

Heather L.

Yelp
An amazing bakery! I worked with Nicole right before she took Family Leave and she was so sweet and helpful! We had a sampling of cookies- Italian rainbow, pignoli, cuccidati, pizzelle, strawberry leaf cookies, mini sfogliatelle, and probably a few others that I'm missing! All simply delectable and made to perfection! You can tell that the baking is made with passion and precision! This bakery is definitely worth the wait until they return in March 2023- you will not be disappointed!

Lizzy M.

Yelp
Been buying their cannoli and cookies since 2020! They are the best!! I also loved the pumpkin spice tiramisu that was a special this fall
google avatar

Lambrini V.

Yelp
Stopped by today so I could get some cannolis for my brothers birthday! I drove all the way from Leesburg to try this place and it did not disappoint. I got a variety of flavors but the pumpkin chai cannoli was my absolute favorite! Especially since it's pumpkin season right now! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I wish there was more! We stopped by yesterday to check out this out since I've followed Bisnonna on Instagram for the longest time and haven't had a chance to try it. So happy that there's now a storefront, congratulations! When we stopped by there was a limited selection of Cannoli's available so we only tried the classic. It was very good! I liked that it was not overly sweet. Can't wait to come back and try the other flavors I've been eye-ing!

Yelp
Stop looking for a quality Italian bakery in the DMV because you've found it! Nicole has done this area a much needed service by bringing the area a tier of Italian baked goods, usually reserved for small shops in New York and New Jersey. Nicole is a complete boss, running this small business with her family after moving from New Jersey. After trying her Italian cookies and cannolis, my wife and I new that we had to use Bisnonna for our wedding. Nicole is incredibly personable and professional and worked with us to come up with a menu that suited our exact needs. Her shop can tailor your order to your exact requirements: amount, flavors, delivery, set up, etc. During and after our wedding, our guests were absolutely raving about her cannolis. The shop keeps the staple flavors stocked, and also offers seasonal specialties. Whether you're looking to cater a large event, or want to bring something amazing over to a friends house, Bisnonna will have exactly what you're looking for and will have you coming back again and again.

Yelp
Wow, it's been awhile since I've left a yelp review, but these cannoli were so good!!! I don't normally like cannolis actually bc I've only had ones with dense fillings that were overly sweet. These are delicious - light, fluffy filling that's just lightly sweetened, a shell that's crispy crackly with just the right thickness to crunch into and melt into the filling. I can't wait to treat myself to some more so I can try other flavors. We had the chocolate, which was yummy and the Thai coffee, which had a nice, fragrant coffee flavor. We got one filled and two with separate filling. (Haven't tried the strawberry yet) It was very easy to snip the filling bag and squeeze it into the shell; I was even able to kind of swirl it around so it looked the website pictures. No picture here though bc they were so good, we ate it right away! Thanks Bisnonna!!

Marcrl L.

Yelp
Bisnonna Bakery has a delicious array of old style, true Italian desserts. Their cannolis are the best we've had. My 96 year old father says they taste like those he had as a kid. Everything they offer is fantastic ( their mini lemon ricotta cookies are a favorite for dessert at lunch) Dom and Nicole work hard to ensure everything is perfect looking and tasting.

Jen E.

Yelp
I purchased their Italian butter cookies today along with the Italian leaf cookies I normally buy. I love their leaf cookies and the butter cookies are the best I have ever had!!!!! They are phenomenal. I'm trying not to eat the whole bag today. I highly recommend you try them.

Brandy E.

Yelp
Hands down the best tiramisu ever! I surprised my husband with the tiramisu for his birthday. It's his favorite dessert and he now says he won't be able to eat it anywhere else and this is the only place we can get it from now. I ordered directly through their website and picked up the tiramisu -- Bisnonna had great communication throughout the whole process. We've also had their cannolis before and would highly recommend! Thanks for everything!

Erik L.

Yelp
Amazing. We ordered for Easter and enjoyed the spring collection of cannoli-- limoncello, classic Dubrovnik and baileys Irish cream. The shells were outstanding, crisp and delicious. The fillings were well portioned and magnificent! We ordered a cannoli cake that was a huge hit, orange blossom amaretti cookies that were soft and wonderful, and some of the best rainbow cookies we have ever found. A real gem of a bakery!

Yelp
One word... Mouth-watering!! (Okay maybe two) DELICIOUS!! Need a fix to settle your sweet tooth? Bisnonna. Just need a yummy treat to share with you and yourself? Bisnonna! Need a dessert for an upcoming social gathering? Bisnonna's got you! Let me start by saying wow, there's really nothing I've ever tasted quite like the things from the hardworking and passionate baker behind Bisnonna! She has her classics and she has her unique twists to her treats. I could list all the things I suggest trying, but then I realized I'd be listing the whole menu. Made to order and made with lots of love by her own hands! I'm always one to support the small family businesses and people following their dreams! With that said, BB will make your dreams come true with all their yummy treats! Hands down I promise you that anything ordered from this Bakeshop will never leave you second guessing... only leave you wanting more!!! Keep your eye out for their farmer's market appearances and join the email list to get updates! Visit their website for more info!! (Do it do it, you won't have any regrets!!)

Yelp
Fantastic treats! We met Nicole at the Taste of Annandale and had a difficult time deciding which of the many bakery items to try. We opted for a couple of the cannolis and they did not disappoint. The flavors were like nothing else I've had -- not too sweet and not too filling. They were on the lighter side of a typical cannoli but the flavors went above and beyond. I look forward to purchasing pies and cakes for future events with friends and family. Maybe Nicole would consider a treat of the month type club. Also, the treats look as good in person as they do in the photos. Great work Bisnonna Bakeshop!

Olive H.

Yelp
I can't eat gluten, so while Bisnonna is known for their cannoli and tiramisu and other gluten filled things that my friends and family can't stop talking about, I want to talk about the magic that is their gluten free offerings. The pignoli are so perfectly soft and chewy. Her incredible tarts can all be made gluten free. The panna cotta that has been available through her monthly boxes has been unreal and so smooth. Most importantly, Nicole's amaretti are the greatest cookies I have ever had in my life. Every single flavor is amazing. I eat them all day long when I have them, starting with dunking them in my coffee in the morning (the cinnamon is ideal for this), and ending with trying to pour the crumbs from the bag directly into my mouth by dinnertime. Nicole and the Bisnonna team put time and effort into making sure that their gluten free items are made with care, are celiac friendly, and are clearly marked. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for all her loyal gluten free customers next.

Yelp
I wanted to add a display of Italian cookies and cannoli for my daughter's wedding and happily sampled goodies from the area when I found Bisnonna Bakeshop on-line. They had all the cookies I remembered from my childhood in the Philadelphia area and the samples were delicious. The Italian Flag cookies had the right combo of sweetness and dark chocolate and the Pignoli had great almond flavor. The Lemon Ricotta cookies were a real find, not seen since my childhood. Best of all were the cannoli in classic flavors (my favorite has to be the ones dipped in pistachios), but the baker also adds a modern touch with flavors that are definitely new to the cannoli world. Try the Nutella cannoli. The baker arrived at the wedding venue and set up everything in a display that was like a magnet for the guests after dinner. Great service and great cookies.

Yelp
Oh. My. Gosh. I am from a large Sicilian family up north and have been devastated that there are no great Italian bakeries down in the DMV (stop trying to sell me on Officina. It's not happening). Saw Bisnonna on Yelp NOVA and immediately picked up an obscene amount of baked goods for one person. Tears in my eyes when her pizzelles rivaled those of my nonna! Her cannolis were perfect as well - husband said they were the best shells he's ever had, I appreciated the perfect amount of sweet (but not too sweet). I am beyond excited that I finally have a place to get my Italian bakery fix down here. I mean...we all had to gain our quarantine weight from something, right? Mine will be from these AMAZING sweets!

Yelp
I've wanted to try Bisnonna after searching for authentic Italian baked goods in the DMV area. We lived in Naples, Italy for several years and my son's favorite pastry is sfogliatelle so I was super happy to have found a bakery that offered it. This week my Italian mother-in-law was visiting from out-of-town so I ordered her favorite -- cannoli. I ordered Italian rainbow cookies as well, which are my personal favorite. Even though I was a couple of minutes late to pick up my order, Nicole was so nice and thanked me for emailing her an update. As far as the goodies, everything was fresh, well-packaged, and absolutely delicious!! This will be my go-to bakery and am happy to give Bisnonna my continued business. Can't wait to place another order!

Yelp
Have tried their cannoli. We bought it in the morning and ate it for dinner. The filling is very good, though the shell was not so correct - not as crispy as it should be, and lack of some flavor. It could because that we have it sitting in the bag for too long. Next time might try their stuff fresh it come across their pop up somewhere again.

Yelp
We have had Bisnonna's cannolis on several occasions and they're always delicious! When it was time to plan for our wedding, we knew we needed cannolis at our dessert table! They were a huge hit and all of our guests were raving about them! Bisnonna is the only place I'll get cannolis around here, everywhere else's cannolis are missing something.

Yelp
I have to do a new review! If you're not coming here you are missing out. The apple spice cake with the candied oranges is heavenly!

Yelp
These are the best cannolis you could find in NOVA. They're so amazing. From the shells, to the filling and the packaging, everything was done with so much care and love. I have the honor of knowing Nicole before she had her bakeshop and the first time I had her cannolis, I knew I ccould not have any other cannolis anywhere else. She pours her heart out when she makes them. Each shell is different based on the flavor of the filling. She even makes sure to include a note with instructions for you. If you have a chance, please try her bakeshop. I guarantee you will not regret it.

Yelp
There are quite a few "bakeries" in the DC area but NONE of them had goods that taste like they were made by your grandmother in her old school kitchen.....until Bisnonna came along! Everything is hand made with lots of love and if love had a taste, it would taste like Bisnonna. I have tried quite a few of their goodies and every single item is absolutely amazing. My personal favorites are the Nutella cannoli and the orange blossom amoretti cookies. YUM!!! What could be better than getting the best, authentic, Italian baked goods while supporting a small business?!

Yelp
I ordered the Amaretti cookies, and they were the BEST I have ever had. I recommend them 100000%. I would give 20 stars if I could.

Yelp
We're big fans of Bisnonna Bakeshop, especially the classic cannolis, GF orange blossom amaretti and almond biscotti (we make a point to never run out in our household - they've become a staple with our morning coffee). Everything is fresh & made by hand, and the seasonal ingredients brought into rotation are always so thoughtfully incorporated... very excited to try the lemon tart! Nicole, the owner, is so personable and takes so much pride in her business and connecting with her community. Our go to for any hosting & catering needs!

Yelp
Bisnonna Bakeshop is a true gem. We ordered desserts from Bisnonna this past weekend for a small Bridge tournament (six couples). The canolis were perfect- shells crisp and the filling not overly sweet. We tired six varieties of canolis and I can't begin to rank them as each seemed to be the best! Cookies were amazing. We ordered Pignolli, Ameretti and Kolache. The Kioache were indreadibly delicate with rich apricot OMG! The Pignolli and Ameretti were no less amazing. Part of me does not want to write this review as I'm afraid if they get too popular I won't be able to place an order. Bottom line: The bisnonna of these angels of the bakery must be be molto orgoglioso. A legitimate five stars.
