19 of Montreal’s Best Bars for Live Music | Eater Montreal

"Focused on live rock and blues bands every night of the week, this bar’s one of the older venues in town. Having been in business since 1975, it’s been the site of album launches of big Quebecois musical acts like Marjo and Éric Lapointe, a legacy that lives on with musical acts both local and visiting from across the province and country as well as abroad. Catch a show while drinking classic cocktails, wine, beers on tap, and more — no food’s available, however." - JP Karwacki

I only had a couple of drinks, but it was a pleasant experience. The live music was great, featuring 80s and 90s rock and roll. The mini-concert was $10, but it was worth it. Overall, it was a good experience.

One of my favourite places in Montreal. Great music. Perfect old school blues bar vibe. The music is always good. Normally drop in a few times when I’m in the city. I’ve worked in the industry for a long time and I have to give a special shout out to carol who is one of the best bouncers/doormenI’ve ever seen. Really great at dealing with customers. He’s an absolute pro

A Night of Authentic Blues at Bistro à Jojo I had an amazing experience at Bistro à Jojo last night! The ambiance was warm and inviting, the kind of place where you can truly feel the soul of the music. The live blues performance was incredible, raw, emotional, and full of energy. What stood out the most was the owner. You can see his passion for the music in every detail of the place. He doesn’t just run the club; he lives the blues and shares that joy with everyone. His enthusiasm made the night even more special. If you’re looking for a spot to enjoy real blues music in an intimate and vibrant setting, Bistro à Jojo is the place to be!

We had such a wonderful time here! We were lucky enough to be in town to see the David Segreti Band and boy, what a show! Such amazing talent. A big thank you to the great staff. I would love to come back next time I am in town ❤️

November 2024. On my first and third night in Montreal, Canada I went to this bar, I was expecting to play some jazz but instead I got some nice classic rock jams and I really enjoyed it like nobody else The drinks are good, specially the beer and more the special beer jug which is good to share. I sat at a good table, I listened to 1960s and 1970s rock songs which were covers of songs made famous by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top, and I danced a lot and sang. The staff was nice, specially Naomi, a lovely blonde bartender who gave me a five star service and she was super friendly. Note: some nights you have to pay for a cover specially in the weekends, so there’s a need to check that out before going to this bar. This place is so far my number one rock music bar in the whole world, and personally if you love oldies and you like traveling, drinking and make new friends, this is the place for you!

Google
A wonderful place to hang out and listen to live music. The band rocked in every sense of the word. The drinks are relatively well priced and there's a $10 cover (who does a cover anymore these days but since the band was so good they can be forgiven) at the entrance. Whenever I'm back in Montreal, this will definitely be a place to visit again

Yelp
If you're going to succeed at having a successful live music joint, you need to improve. First: dim the lights yo! Nobody can relax in bright lights!!! Duh... Second: Get rid of 4 tables and 20 CHAIRS! What needs to be clear is that you could never fill all those chairs because the space can't fit them!! You have such an over abundance of these things that the humans trying to enjoy themselves instead feel cramped and exposed! How do you not already recognize this as a problem?? I'll never come back to this sad attempt at "live music".

Yelp
Barely gave us a shot of glenlivit as a drink, not a very nice female bartender. Asked me To top her more then I was going to.

Yelp
Good service, great music with Sabrina. Drinks were cold. No food here but they allow you to bring food in.

Yelp
Live music daily - Great! I was surprised to find a New Orleans-inspired blues joint in the heart of downtown Montreal. The place has a true "pub" feel - it's a hangout type of place. The beer selection is adequate but I was disappointed there wasn't much for IPAs on tap. They do have a full bar selection for cocktails. Bring a couple of friends (not a huge group because it is rather small) and chill to the music.

Yelp
My BF and I were in search of some live music and found this little gem. Enjoyed some acoustic music and a few drinks. The service was not very attentive. I had to go to the bar myself to get another round. Dimly lit and slightly romantic environment. Almost felt like I was in a bar in Nashville or even a pub in Ireland. I'd go back for more music! No cover was also a plus!

Yelp
Honestly if I had a higher rating, I would give it to this place. Amazing life music. Had a magnificent time!

Yelp
Loved it! We were there on a Saturday night from about 8pm-12:30am. Felt like old Montreal. Just a little brick below ground bar. Open to the street. Playing great live Blues music. Place was packed and the crowd was right into the music. Cheering, clapping and singing along. The service was fast and friendly. Bathrooms were clean. Bartenders were fun loving, pouring alcohol on the bar, lighting up the bar with flames. Great experience for our first night in Montreal. Highly recommended! FYI. Doesn't get really packed until around 11pm. So for good seats go a bit early. They do charge a cover charge at that approx time. Before that they didn't ask us. Beers were standard choices, nothing unique about beer or spirits choices. Beers are about 7$ before 8pm. Everything goes up 1$ at 8pm.

Yelp
I was very excited to go to this bar! I heard so many great things about it and I wanted to experience a true local music scene; I'm an American visiting Montreal for the first time. I looked up the upcoming blues/rock show and made sure I had just enough for the $10 cover. Since I was driving back to the States the next day I made sure to have exactly enough so I wouldn't have to go to an ATM again and end up with surplus cash before leaving the country. I arrived around 8:45pm and was greeted by an attentive bartender and friendly locals that were excited to talk to me about this place. Their free 4-9pm regular acoustic show is solid. I'm giving this a low rating because when it came around to collect the cover for the featured 10:30pm show, I was told I had to pay $12 for a "coat check fee." This is stated nowhere on the website. I pulled up the website and pointed out the $10; and was repeatedly told I still had to pay the extra $2 for "coat check" even though I was content to hold my coat or to even put it in my bag. I'm not sure if this was a purposeful act because they don't want Americans at this bar, or maybe they REALLY wanted those extra $2...I ended up leaving because I just didn't feel like taking out the extra $24.50 for that "coat check" fee. I dislike establishments that make up rules to charge more money to their customers or to discriminate against specific people. So unfortunately I am posting a public PSA on this place.

Yelp
The drum beat and tight bass attracted my attention from far away while strolling around the Quartier latin. 10$ to get in...great cold beer ! Worthy place for Blues lovers. A trio was performing to my delight. Cozy atmosphere. ..and driiink awaayy!!! Anyone knows the name of the group playing Friday night Sept. 11 ? Great band. Wow

Yelp
We came here to chill out after a big brunch in the late afternoons and even though the place wasn't rocking yet, you know the atmosphere was going to get a lot better once the night time comes and the live band starts rocking some classic blues and rock & roll. The place is really nice with open front, pitchers are reasonably priced and location is really convenient. It's definitely clean and just classy and nice place to hang out with the guys or take a hot chick to chill with. We stayed here for a few hours before we left and definitely one of the better bars we visited of all the places we went in Montreal. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
We were in Montreal for one night and in need of some good live music. It was a Tuesday night and we didn't think it was going to be possible until we stumbled upon this place! The music was great and we got to hang with the band during their short break. The drinks were reasonably priced and the acoustics were good. We were very happy with Bistro a Jojo.

Yelp
Bistro a Jojo first caught my attention by advertising live blues - something a bit out of step on St Denis. Initially planning to walk past, I ended up being lured in by the guitar and vocals of Pastel, whose amazing voice kept me buying pints at Jojo's longer than I would have otherwise. If you want great service, amazing food or a fantastic beer selection, choose one of the other options nearby. If you're in it for a unique music experience with a little Québécois music history, make sure not to miss Jojo's.

Yelp
Awesome Blues/Rock bar in the Latin Quarter. Hit it three times while there. The 2 piece band played rock and mixed it with some French music by Les Colocs. Nice change of pace. Cold local beer. Montreal would has good local beer! And not Molson, but Boreal and others.

Yelp
What a fun blues place ! It was a casual find and it is situated perfectly near the berri uqam metro. Cozy and intimate with live bands rocking some wonderful blues music . Throughly enjoyed the vibe and an even more enjoyable crowd in their 30's and over. Slightly weak cocktails but hey grab a beer and chill here. I wish I had more time here but the couple of hours spent was totally memorable!

Yelp
Spent my last night of Montreal holiday here and loved it! The band, Unkle Groove was amazing, bluesy rock. Good service. very cozy atmosphere, great for blues. I was expecting to hear straight blues music from the name and it definitely was more on the rock side, but since i like that, i wasn't upset.

Yelp
Was there on thursday with a friend it is a small lovely place. Band and music (blues/rock) were great service is good prices are good. Bad things are that they do not have many beer choices (mostly brown which I don't like) and bodyguard have some problems with English speakers. But will go there again..

Yelp
Worth visiting...we saw a guitarist who was competent...and a female singer who was entertaining...wouldn't call it a hardcore blues club...but entertainment is entertainment...no food...but drinks are good...

Yelp
Awful. Music was not blues but bad garage band rock. Doesn't start until 10.30pm even on weeknights which is not necessarily bad but strange. Most clubs are on their 2nd or 3rd set by then. I was put off by the nickel and diming. They make you check your coat and charge $2 for it. Meanwhile, we saw several people who hadn't checked their coats. We were told at the door that we could put our cover on the tab and pay w/ credit card. After we got some beers at the bar and sat at a table , the waitress said she has to collect the cover in cash. I explained we were told differently at the door. Didn't matter, we had to pay in cash. We had no more Canadian cash and didn't want to exchange for more just to pay a cover. And they are the only place in Montreal that I went that week that didn't take US dollars. We finished our beer over the first and only "song" we heard, and left. $8 for a tap beer BTW is a bit expensive. Felt like we were being fleeced from the moment we walked in.
