Czech-Style Bistro Bohem Permanently Closes After 8 Years in Shaw - Eater DC

"Bistro Bohem, the Czech-style bar and cafe in Shaw, has permanently closed after eight years of business. It offered Czech and Central European dishes such as beef goulash, pork shanks, schnitzel sandwiches, pierogies, potato pancakes, and apple strudel. The bar also served Slivovitz and operated as a daytime cafe. It was opened by Prague native Jarek Mika with Czech chef Robin Jurek in 2012 and later taken over by Daniel Sidzina and his wife Vendula in 2016. Due to circumstances beyond their control, it was no longer feasible to remain open, despite having tried to make it work during the pandemic by providing curbside pickup and patio dining." - Gabe Hiatt

This place is amazing. I got the mule, and old fashioned for drinks, both were great. Had the pierogi, borscht, and pickled brie for appetizers... borscht is next level. Had the duck for the main course, and was cooked to perfection. Tried the ghoulosh as well which was awesome. Highly recommend, and already planning to come back.

I had their Pierogi for an appetizer/dinner along with an old fashioned made with Becherovka, which is a liquor/bitter from the Czech Republic. Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Bistro Bohem. I went at around 7pm on a Friday and it wasn't too busy/loud. They had an amazing soundtrack playing in the background. Everything was prefect for just drinking and people watching.

Last week i visited Bistro Bohem. I am a celiac so I ordered Gluten free Hamburger. I must say that was the best burger i have eaten in my life! So delicious , tasty and even with gluten free bagel! The ingredients were fresh and combined into delicious final product. If you like bistros with home made meals, where it feels like home, this is the right place to eat :-) The style of bistro is cozy, feels warm and friendly. Also staff is very helpful and friendly, warm smile they give you feels great. If you are not sure what to eat, they navigate you trough the menu and help you to find the best choice for you. For drink bistro offers great variety of drinks, including cold tea and hot tea. My favorite is Mango tea, I love it. Definitely i want to come back and eat there again, and I highly recommend this bistro to everyone ! :-)

This place was recommended to me, and the atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. I did enjoy the food, however I wasn't completely blown away with it for some reason. It was cooked very well and the waitress was nice. I would go back again and see what else is on the menu; perhaps what I ordered just had too much bread/carby-food.

This place reminds me of my family's cooking! Authentic and delicious, I highly recommend going for dinner. If you are Czech or have ever been, this is the only place I've seen with Becherovka! I've never had a bad meal here and the service is great. Slightly smaller menu than with the previous owner so I do miss the other authentic options but still plenty of great choices!

All Czech people behind the bar/servicing the tables when I went. Good coffee, made me a Melange with the steamy creamy. Cutlet with waffles outranks the chicken and waffles for me!! Great experience.

Had a great early Saturday morning brunch here with a friend. I had the BLT on eggy toast which was really good and filling. My friend had the Moravian Cmunda and it was delicious! Espresso and coffee were just right. Service was excellent and they have small throw blankets on the seats near the windows if you get chilly during a winter visit :)
