Bistro d’Azur is amazing! From the food to the service to the ambience and everything in between it was exceptional! The cuisine is fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. It was a fabulous dining experience and we cannot wait to go back! While everything we had was an instant favorite, the lobster crepe is fantastic- highly recommend!

Our friends brought us here on Saturday and treated us to a wedding anniversary dinner. We were a party of five. We were given complementary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. I’m vegetarian and the food was excellent. There is prefix dinner with either two options or three options. I chose the two. My salad was huge. My entrée was eggplant with a saffron rice. It was amazing. It’s BYOB. And that’s absolutely fine because we brought our wine in our champagne and other drink drinks. They were so attentive. The staff was wonderful and I believe we overstayed which I’m truly sorry about that. But we were having such a great time there. I definitely recommend them. We would definitely go again and again and again. There is food for everyone. I had my own vegetarian menu which had amazing selections. I have never been to a place where there was so much to choose from. We really love it!!! Five stars and more. Parking in street parking. And I think there’s one handicap space across the street.

Just had an amazing dinner at the newly owned Bistro D’Azur in West Orange and had to share! The new owners (who are dear friends of ours ❤️) are doing an incredible job — the food was absolutely delicious, the service was top-notch, and the whole place has such a warm, welcoming vibe. Whether you're planning a cozy date night or bringing the whole family for a special dinner, this spot really hits the mark. The ambiance is elegant without being stuffy, and every dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. So proud of Helen and Philip!!❤️ Definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area!

July 20th 2025 update, photos added- Trying to convey how phenomenal this restaurant and team - shoutout to Isabelle and Fernando! - without worrying a whole novel here. Visited again, this time on a Sunday evening. Was fortunate to have coincided with the special escargot amuse-bouche gift. Perfectly tender and buttery with hint of sweetness. Standout features along the dishes on the 5 course chef's tasting menu: •Fruits de mer: the most succulent fresh seafood melange with spike of acidity in the dressing •Spring risotto: unique flavor dimension with the Fava beans; the most satisfying chew on the risotto grains •Watermelon and feta with serrano ham, beautifully arranged as a rosette, and arugula: perfect summer sweet-salty balanced refresher •Grilled octopus: resplendent with accompanying hummus spread, spices, and micro-diced vegetables •Golden tilefish: shatteringly crispy skin with tender flaking flesh on the fish, special blend of warm toasted boots on the sauce •Fluke with browned butter: amazing sear and al dente texture on the fish, crispy fried Fava beans nicely contrasting •Venison rib chop: UTTER MAGIC, mind-bendingly tender magenta colored rib chop •Duck breast: exquisite foie gras wild rice with lavender honey sauced and rhubarb complementing juicy duck breast with torched crisp skin •Chocolate ganache cake with a darling lemon custard mini vol au vent and fruit garnishes Tremendous thanks to Chef Richard Krug, a veritable maestro of tastes and textures. Such a pleasure to have had the chance to meet him in person! From May 14th 2025- Absolument fantastique. If any restaurant in NJ were to be michelin star rated, this would be. Massimo welcome us early, Rain (Reign?) took great care of us through the chef's 5-course tasting menu. Every dish was a kaleidoscope of flavors, textures, and color. •Spring risotto with grains impossibly flavorful from the savory mushrooms and creamy from the marscapone •Grilled octopus stunningly tender with earthy herbal hummus and a refreshing spike of acid •NJ fluke beurre noisette with perfectly seared crush and flaking tender flesh •Scallop with cinnamon reduction delightfully innovative •Lamb chop done to medium rare perfection •Duck breast bearing a uniquely seasoned crust paired with roasted vegetables •Chocolate ganache and fruits make for a perfect bite

This place is great! Really attentive and kind front of house staff. Super generous portions! We did the chef’s 5 course sampling menu — it was incredible! The meal was paced really well, and the presentation was awesome. The ambience of the restaurant was relaxing and truly felt like a local fine dining experience. I highly recommend Bistro d’Azur and will be going back!

An unforgettable private event experience! My wife and I attended a private event here and were blown away by every aspect. The atmosphere was stunning, elegant, warm, and thoughtfully decorated to create a truly special setting. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, making sure every guest felt welcomed and well taken care of. What stood out even more was the owners personally checking in with guests throughout the event, it was a thoughtful touch that showed how much pride they take in their restaurant. The food was absolutely phenomenal served fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From start to finish, it was an exceptional experience. Highly recommend this venue for any special occasion and already looking forward to coming back!!

We came on a cold day in January, but the menu and service were enough to keep us warm! We considered hosting an event here, and although we ended up going with a slightly larger space, the staff and atmosphere here were a definite plus. We sampled a few dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Bistro d'Azur just hosted a very lovely 30-person brunch for our 95-year-old Mother. The restaurant looked beautiful - elegant yet comfortable. The food was delicious, and the multi-course nature of the menu meant the dishes kept coming - and coming - to our guests delight. It was fun to have such a large variety of choices starting with a cold table of appetizers, meats, cheeses, crudite, hummus, babaghanousch, and more. Once we were seated, dishes were served beginning with breakfast favorites (brioche french toast, omelettes, croquettes monsieur, potatoes, bacon...then a segue to lunch...roast chicken, loup de mer, steak and fresh berry crepes...then we managed to squeeze in modest servings of lemon meringue, chocolate truffles, chocolate covered strawberries and brie with apple compote (are you hungry yet?). Isabelle, our gracious host was on top of all details, from cueing us when it was time for speeches, to handling guest's random requests. Mosimo was excellent at the bar handling the drinks we brought and keeping up with the Mimosa orders. Their colleagues did a great job serving. It was the perfect setting for a great celebration. And of course our Mother was thrilled, surrounded by her loved ones enjoying themselves. Several weeks on, we are still receiving complements for a special and memorable party. FYI, we looked at several restaurants in the area and we chose Bistro d'Azur for the ambience and food quality. As it turned out the cost was less than other fine dining establishments, with the added bonus of copious amounts of food and having the restaurant to ourselves. We are grateful to Bistro d'Azur for helping us fête in style and recommend it to others planning their own special festivities!

Yelp
Bistro d'Azur is my go to for a somewhat upscale yet easily approachable dinner. Food is consistently very good. Service is nice and friendly and they are BYOB. Good thing they rotate some of their dishes but so far kept our favorites in place. And the $69 of peak pre fix is an amazing deal!

Yelp
We visited Bistro d'Azur to celebrate our anniversary and we are so glad we did. We were brought 2 complimentary glasses of champagne which were light and crisp and such a sweet gesture. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and felt spacious. We opted for the 3 course pairing which allowed us to try numerous dishes. We started with the lobster crepe, butternut squash and mushroom risotto, octopus, and mussels. My favorite by far was the octopus. We were hesitant to order the octopus because we have had our fair share of chewy octopus but our server ensured us that this octopus was tender and one of the signature dishes of the restaurant. Boy was he right!! This was probably the best octopus dish I've had. It was indeed tender and had a great balance of flavor. My fiancé loved the risotto because it was hearty and warm. I enjoyed it as well. The lobster crepe was good but needed maybe a tiny bit of salt and the mussels were under seasoned. The saffron brother was light but needed a little more flavor. We added fresh lemon juice to the broth and that definitely helped, in addition to the roasted garlic chunks that were found throughout the broth. For entrees, we chose the scallops and duck breast. The duck breast was perfection!! It was cooked beautifully with a flavorful, crispy skin. My fiancé loved his scallops which were buttery and tender. We ended our night with cognac cake which was delicious as well. We had an amazing meal at Bistro d'Azur and service was top notch. We look forward to visiting again in the near future. To the team at Bistro d'Azur, merci beaucoup for a memorable anniversary meal!

Yelp
Their dishes showcase real skill! The restaurant stands out for its appearance. The staff provides excellent assistance and clearly values what they offer. The cuisine here truly stands out. This place deserves more buzz!

Yelp
First time here for us, 62nd birthday for me. They seated us & provided complimentary glasses of champagne. We chose the 5 course Chefs tasting menu and we enjoyed. Everything was delicious, plated beautifully. Grilled octopus and venison were superior. My gf's fish (NJ fluke) was so well seasoned and cooked amazingly that I'm still thinking about it. How do you cook such a delicate fish to be crispy (w/o skin) on top and be so moist & tender below? Wow, compliments to the chef and staff. The ambiance is warm and peaceful, the decor is beautiful and tables are spacious. Many stars rated for me, kudos to the staff and owner.

Yelp
Delicious French food. Excellent service Close by to Short Hills Mall Byob Decent prices and generous portions - we even had leftovers. Need I say more? We came here for a special occasion dinner after I researched restaurants in the area on good old yelp - still much more reliable than a google rating for restaurants and possibly for other stuff too. The restaurant only offered a prefixe menu and the selection was limited. Of the prefixe menu we had the seared foie gras, fruit de mer, salmon tartare, octopus, roasted lamb rib chops, and lobster crepe. Everything was out of the park good. All of the dishes came with tastefully selected accompaniments such as the leek and mushrooms with the amazing lobster crepe, which was my favorite dish. I guess it's better to do a few things excellent than have an expansive list of mediocre offerings. The presentation was very nice too even though the portions are thankfully bigger than the typical foo foo French place. This is a small cozy bistro with very warm service and a nice environment that made me feel like I was on vacation at a resort somewhere. It was a great meal and I will definitely come back here.

Yelp
Surprised by the reviews. Food is good overall, but not special. Didn't love my venison (they said rare, but wow, it was bloody), but accept I may have ordered poorly. Mussels, octopus, lamb, all looked tasty. But bigger issue was we sat at 7:00, ordered as soon as the waiter came....entrees came out at 9:10. It's BYO, not like we were lingering and enjoying cocktails. Sooo slow. More 3.5 star but the staff were very nice.

Bob C.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant.... Intimate and unpretentious. Reliably good food. BYOB. Been going here for a few years... a local treasure.

Suzannah C.

Yelp
Seriously, one of the best meals I've had. Period. And I've had a lot of good meals. Exceptional flavors, combinations, and cooked to perfection. The prix fix menu offered so many options - hard to choose. Oh, and the atmosphere is lovely - both comfortable and tasteful. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Amazing food, service and ambience. We sat outside. Our waiter was very attentive. Food was great. They even made my child a pasta since he wouldn't eat anything off the children's menu. They noticed it was a special occasion and celebrated appropriately.

Yelp
We had a Christmas eve dinner at Bistro D'azur. There was a special Christmas menu, and it was absolutely fantastic! My kids opted for the filet mignon, and my wife and I had swordfish. I grew up in France, and although I'm not a foodie, I know good french food when I taste it - this was VERY good french food! The mood was great and the music was french (obviously). highly Recommended!

Yelp
This year, I decided to order Thanksgiving dinner from a restaurant rather than cooking. After some online research, the decided to give Bistro d'Azur a chance, and I'm very glad that I did. Advanced ordering was easy and clear and I was given a curbside pick up timeslot for thanksgiving morning. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu was flexible, allowing customers to select preferred side dishes. When I got home, everything was packaged neatly and thoughtfully. The food was extremely fresh and will please even the most discerning palate. Some thoughts on what I ordered: Half Turkey- Exceptional and perfectly cooked. Precisely carved for convenience. It was extremely succulent, moist, and tender. I have never had breast meat this tender. I thought the seasoning was perfect, not too overly herbed. The accompanying jus was very good too. Beet salad- really nice. Came with red and yellow beets, beet purée, walnuts, and some goat cheese fritters that I reheated in the air fryer. It came with a very tasty, sweet vinaigrette. Creamed spinach- generous portion, classic. Glazed carrots- good, proper baby carrots Foie gras stuffing- delicious, had celery and onion. Portion was on the small side, but understandable for this type of dish. Pommes purée with jus- creamy and perfect Chocolate torte- delicious, tasted ever so slightly boozy in a good way. Came with a bit of fresh fruit and a delicious candied orange peel. Apple tatin - definitely good, but not my favorite of the meal. This one I think had some textural changes due to carry out so it was slightly soggy. I was honestly very impressed with this meal. A bit of a splurge, but actually pretty reasonable for the amount of food, effort, and skill that went into this meal! A few photos attached. Dark Chocolate Torte Foie Gras Tarte Tatin

Yelp
Six stars, seven stars! Absolutely some of the best meals I've had in this country! Menu isn't that broad, but everything from salads to entrees is always memorably fantastic. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the hostess and the staff are warm and accomodating. It's our go-to for special occasions, or just a very nice meal. BYO. Hope I don't start a run on the place, but it's absolutely a find in NNJ. Can't say enough great things!

Yelp
Wow the food here is so good! So happy we tried it again- add to your special occasion list! They now have a 2 and 3 dish prize fix. Appetizers Lobster crepe- yummm!!! Beet salad - good Scallops - refreshing Risotto - omg this is downright amazing! They have really reinvented and improved this dish! Mains Black bass- sooo delicious!! Yasss! Steak- very good!

Superb french cuisine. Felt like I was dining in the south of France. Beautiful ambience and the waitstaff were very attentive. The lobster crepe was wonderful.

Yelp
My husband and I finally got the vaccine so we decided to GO BIG and get back out to one of our pre-Covid faves - Bistro. I can't believe what an incredible job they have done with what was once such a non-descript little noodle bar. I really can close my eyes and pretend I'm on vacation. We started with the lobster crepes. They were just as incredible as I remember them. I savored every bite. We followed up with the lamb. It did not disappoint. We had brought our own wine. It was awesome to have it served with dinner. Mary and Tom, the owners - who we have met before, were dining nearby that night. I love a restaurant full of joy and happy chatter. It's been so long since we've been around people! We even enjoyed a good laugh with Tom when he stopped by to welcome us back. I can't believe he remembered us! So classy. It made us feel so special. We will definitely be back soon. Highly recommend this cozy couture delicious spot!

Yelp
Chef Krug and his crew took great care of us and served a fantastic dinner! Great food and atmosphere was so nice! Highly recommended

Yelp
TLDR- proteins under salted; skip dessert; fois gras bread pudding and fois gras appetizer excellent. We started our meal with a warm focaccia bread basked, that came with an olive tapenade, olive oil and butter. It was delicious. We had the following- Lobster crepe: excellent creamy sauce with flavorful mushrooms and perfect soft crepe. The lobster had some tiny little shell pieces but was still very good. Fois gras special ($9 supplement) - perfectly cooked fois gras and a shareable portion, with a delicious strawberry rhubarb sauce and some tiny bread cubes Lamb rib chops- Perfectly cooked but the mustard was heavy and could be a little overwhelming. Could benefit from some salt. Duck special (from daily specials)- duck confit salad with figs, apples, goat cheese and greens was tasty but there wasn't very much duck confit and it wasn't the best I have had, however the salad was composed well and all of the components were tasty together - an overall cohesive dish. The second course of the special was lavender duck breast with the most delicious and soft bread pudding w fois gras inside. The bread pudding was the star of the plate. The duck itself was lacking salt. Dessert- Flourless chocolate cake with coffee ice cream: The best part of this dessert was the candied orange peel, followed by the ice cream and then the sauce on the plate, and last the chocolate cake. It was nothing special, the salt helped break up the dense sweetness. Perhaps it could use more salt. Creme brûlée: it was a standard, tasty dish. The consistency was pretty runny but it wasn't a bad thing, just more runny than you may be used to.

Yelp
Phenomenal service and fresh delicious food. This is an excellent local gem that doesn't get much press and I don't understand why?! Everything about this place is very intentional from the design that is great for acoustics where you can actually have a conversation no matter how crowded the restaurant is; to the food. I wish they published their menus so that you know what options are available before arriving to the restaurant. I get that it's based on fresh ingredients and what's available so they can keep it fresh.

Yelp
Dining at Bistro D'Azur, under the experienced CIA alumni's, Master Chef Rich Krug, is a first class experience in "haut cuisine". The staff is also trained and executes the optimal support, to ensure that you are comfortable and accommodated for the culinary creativity that You will appreciate and remember well after dessert! Some may say this doesn't come cheap. Consistent quality of this level, in today's market, can certainly cost a lot more, making the value/appreciation level of this venue well worth it. The Lobster/Mushroom Crepe is a signature app that should not be missed. The grilled octopus paired with chickpeas and hummus is texturally tasty. The special Tuna Niçoise salad was fresh, beautiful and delicious. The mushroom risotto was truly amazing! The duck confit salad was good, but had only a small portion of duck, so was less exciting. The signature Lamb Chops with cous cous, veggies and the magically delicious Chemboulah is a must try. The special Venison entree was the best we've ever had and perfectly delicious! The flourless chocolate cake with coffee or (if available) cappuccino gelato is the recommended dessert choice. As a BYOB it allows for a more affordable first class dining experience. Don't miss this amazing culinary treat! It is worth a try!

Yelp
As a lover of French food, I have returned to this place now 4 times. They had me at the first. The lovely dining room puts you at ease and creates a cozy space within which to enjoy delectable fare. The staff is very helpful and attentive without being overbearing, from the wait staff, bus boys, hosts and owners, it's clear they are glad to have us over. My favorite apps are the foie gras which I call ahead for, the lobster crepe featuring chunks of the stuff, the duck confit salad and of course the seafood plate. The grilled octopus was delish. The paella is rich, the bouillabaisse is so flavorful, while the lamb chops and the NY strip steak were nice and juicy. Next I will try the fish. The obligatory crème brûlée dessert is on the menu along with some chocolate delights and a fruit medley. This place has earned my respect and my return business. Without being a presumptuous copy cat, The owners have recreated a delightful and realistic French dining experience right here in northern NJ, equaling the cuisines Francaises of the big city, and at liquidation prices, compared to the greats in Manhattan. They also offer a nice selection of local wines and mocktails. You must try it for a proper French dining experience and a nice evening out.
google avatar

Ghozt R.

Yelp
This was a very good dining experience and great service. We came for Mothers Day which served a 2 Course Prix-fixe menu with a tasteful selection. I will be back with my better half to impress her with a fancy french dish. Just a tip- they serve a small selection of wine, no cocktails or beer. They do serve "mocktails" as long as you provide your own liqueur. Another TIP- please try the BOURBON Cake or Creme Brulee ! WOW!

Priya P.

Yelp
Great first try here, warm service and good fresh food. Want to try it again soon and hope it will be a reliable go to.

Yelp
I wanna say the place is very pretty, who design the place really payed attention to very single details, even the flowers are natural. The hosts was very friendly and the server was very kindly too, I love the meal and really recommend. The chef came and talk to us showing really good care. I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I was really excited about this place after raving reviews.Came to celebrate my wedding anniversary here. The decor is nice and service is decent, but the food itself was just simply plain, and the drink I got was tasteless (seemed like just a regular sparkling water instead of some non-alcoholic cocktail). The prices not with it. Not coming back.

Yelp
I am always looking for new and interesting restaurants (especially French/Mediterranean ) to try in hopes that they become one of the new "favorites". After reading a nice review in the NJ Monthly, I figured we would try Bistro d' Azur. The restaurant interior is beautifully done in hues of blue. It has a certain sense of sophistication, warmth and that French Riviera feel. I loved the layout which allowed for quiet, spacious dining. The service was attentive and thorough. We started with their assortment of bread which was baked in house and worthy of a few repeats. Appetizers: Grilled Octopus-chickpeas, celery, olives Nicoise Roasted Beets Salad-baked goat cheese, arugula, fennel, radish, orange vinaigrette Lobster Crepe- chardonnay butter, melted leeks, mushrooms Foraged Mushroom Risotto-mushrooms, butternut squash, mascarpone, Parmigiano Reggiano All the appetizers were excellent. The crepe had a good amount of lobster. However, the risotto stole the show. It was creamy and simply delicious. We could have had a triple portion since it was so good and a bit on the small side. Entrees: Roasted Lamb Rib Chops-chermoula, pearl couscous, squash, dried fruit, almond Skate fish "Spanikorizo"-orzo, spinach, feta, dill, tomato cinnamon reduction Roasted Venison Loin- pomme puree, Brussel sprouts, glazed carrots, juniper glace Monk fish-braised fennel, leeks, potato, mussels, bouillabaisse reduction, rouille, crostini Again all the dishes were excellent, perfectly cooked and beautifully executed. The bouillabaisse had great layers of flavor and depth. Dessert: Creme Brulee-fresh berry, tuile Gateau de Cognac-cognac glaze, cinnamon whipped cream, fresh berries Lemon Meringue-vanilla crumble, creme anglais, Brulee Loved them all. The lemon meringue was served in a bowl. It's a deconstructed version of the classic pie but was leveled up a notch. Bistor d' Azur took us back to our recent trip to the French Riviera and reminded us of the delicious, and eclectic cuisine of that region. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will certainly be coming back to this gem.

Yelp
Great addition to town. Good looking space that transports you to the Mediterranean upon entering. Lots of flavor on the menu, the rich seared foie gras is a good start. And the strip steak has a nice twist done with a red peppercorn au poivre sauce.
google avatar

Imani L.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! I honestly can't believe it's in south orange because I don't know of many French restaurants in the area. The service was top notch for example, my coat was checked and politely taken off ny shoulders/leaving was brought to me and politely put back on me. The menu is prix fixe (not sure if it changes each week) and gives patrons options between 2-3 course meals. I, of course did the 3- course haha. We started with the chilled seafood, followed by the grilled octopus, and ended with the duck breast. The food was so delicious and cooked to perfection! I cannot rave more about the experience I had. From the pleasant server to the zero proof cocktails, I just LOVED it. I mean what restaurant has zero proof cocktails presented to customers in such an aesthetically pleasing way? I've never experienced that and it made me want to try them all. I hope to try this place again, if in the area, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Delicious food, excellent service and very cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend. Very attentive staff !

Yelp
Amazing food and our top choice in south orange! We haven't had a bad experience or even "off" night over the past several years of going here. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Can't say enough about the service. I've been to some very high end places and the service at Bistro d'Azur rivals all them. There are enough food reviews here, so I'll just say everything I had was done to perfection. I took my wife and 2 year old for Mother's Day. Our baby was not feeling well but the staff was so accommodating. This was our first time so I wasn't sure what to expect. In the end my wife was very happy and asked if we could go back again some time. Thank you to all the staff for assisting with the home run!
google avatar

Frank V.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service with great atmosphere. I can't recommend this place enough. From the lobster crepes to the amazing deserts- I can't wait to go back. That fact that it's BYOB (although they present and serve the drinks so we'll you don't feel like you even brought it) makes it even more fun while keeping cost down. If you haven't tried it- don't wait.
google avatar

Heidi C.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I had duck, spaetzle and red cabbage. My husband had the seabass with some roast clams. It was wonderful. I am definitely coming back.

Yelp
For a special night out. This restaurant is truly unique. The menu offers several delicious and beautifully prepared items. It's BYOB (which I love.) The dining room is elegant: beautifully decorated, relaxed, comfortable. And the service?.... It is as good as it comes. In my opinion, Bistro d'Azur sets the high standard. You and your guests are going to remember this culinary experience.
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere, so glad to have this top notch restaurant in South Orange! Prices are a little high for the area but totally worth it for the quality lof the meal, plus it's BYOB you aren't paying for marked up wine. The meal started with a selection of fresh breads and rolls, alongside salted butter, rosemary infused olive oil, and kalamata olive tapenade. We had the lobster crepe and octopus starters. The crepes were rich and creamy, and the octopus was perfectly tender with a nice char. The strip steak entree was perfection - correctly cooked medium rare meat, and incredible garlicky spinach with mushrooms and potatoes on the side. The scallops were also delicious and tender, and were served over a "paella" with chorizo, escargot, and chicken confit. Portions were good too- we were both full by the end if the meal. Can't wait to go back!

Melody S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Everything is stellar, this is literally an experience. We did the tasting menu and did 5 courses for $69. Seafood is perfect, risotto is perfect- the duck is something you don't see on many menus and was incredible. Tonight they had venison which literally melted in my mouth Scallops perfectly seared, and then a lemon dessert and a chocolate ganache. You absolutely can not beat this for the price.
google avatar

Nancy M.

Yelp
Can't believe this excellent place is in my neighborhood. The exterior is deceiving- it's a culinary adventure and the vibe is elegant. Staff is warm and welcoming- all the quality without the attitude! If you haven't been, you're missing out. The tapas/tasting experience is A+

Yelp
Another great meal with exceptional service. Bistro d'Azur is my new favorite restaurant in the South Orange/Maplewood area.

Yelp
Amazing! Went here for our wedding anniversary. I am VERY particular about restaurants, but it hit every note perfectly. Ambience, music, attentive but not intrusive staff, and of course the food! High quality ingredients cooked to perfection with great flavor combinations. Classic foods but not overly fussy. My favorite things were lobster crepe, special venison and crème brûlée!

Alex B.

Yelp
Bad experience and not quite sure why. Heard wonderful things about the restaurant. Rolled up around 6:30-7pm on Saturday, before the busy crowd. Did not have the a reservation but restaurant was fairly empty aside for a few seated tables. We were dressed business casual and asked for table of 2 and the disinterested hostess paused for a moment and then asked us to wait a moment so that she could accommodate us. After a moment, she came back with a hard "no" she has nothing at all, despite our seeing otherwise. We then said fine, we know that we don't have a reservation so more than happy to sit at the bar for just drinks/appetizers. She again said no the bar is also unavailable despite a couple already sitting at the far end of the bar. Apparently they are selective on who they allow to patronize their establishment in the year 2022. Insane and totally unacceptable. Will not go back and I hope that others avoid this restaurant as well.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! We were sun kissed with an outside reservation at 5. My 14 year old had the lobster crepe appetizer and the NY Strip and he loves it. It was my first time having foie gras and boy did it take me back to other enjoyable first times:) it was that good!!! My wife had the lamb chops (pictured) and she loved it. The decor is lovely and so are the servers.

Yelp
It's true that we didn't have to leave the state other than our county for a taste of Mediterranean cuisine located in South Orange combining French and Mediterranean flavors with modern flare. This establishment pays homage to the culture of Southern France with fresh ingredients from local farms around NJ to express the flavors of Côte d'Azur. They're currently in nominations for 2021 best French restaurant in NJ according to NJ monthly magazine. Reservation was easily made through their website for 630pm indoor dining. This bistro also offers outdoor dining weather permitting and takeout. Parking was available on the street and after 530pm one doesn't have to feed the meter. When we arrived, there were some patrons enjoying their meal. My partner, our friends and I were whisked to our table after checking the computer. Social distancing was enforced as the capacity was only 24 patrons inside and tables were nicely separated. The indoor decor was spectacular with the eye popping color azur at the table, the walls and ceiling taking one to the French Riviera with the French music playing throughout the establishment. Our servers were Caroline and Marshall who read out the special. Complimentary homemade bread was brought out with accompanying dipping sauces. These came out warm and smelled delicious. They were so good we had to ask for seconds. The menu consisted of prix fixe meal consisting of 2 (one appetizer and one entree) at $65 or 3 (2 appetizers and one entree) at $79. We chose the 2 and started off with appetizers. They were Roasted Beet Salad (baked goat cheese, shaved fennel, greens, walnuts, sunflower balsamic vinaigrette), Fruit de Mer salad (shrimp, calamari, scallop, octopus, red onion, celery, fresh lemon, herb oil), Lobster Crêpes (leeks, mushroom, chardonnay butter) and scallop dish. These were delicious and no complaints. As an entree, we ordered Roasted Lamb Rib Chops with chermoulah, pearl cous cous, squash, dried fruit and pistachio, Seared NY Strip Steak with Spinach, foraged mushrooms, garlic confit, parsley pesto with frites and Shakshuka (Baked eggplant, tomato, summer vegetables, chickpeas, feta foraged mushrooms, fresh egg.) The food came out hot. At least 2 liked their meal, but the ones who had the steaks were disappointed. The meat didn't taste like steak as advertised. It seems that their dish had flavor piled on top of another to hide the taste. The sautéed spinach came with garlic but also mushroom. Plain fries would have been sufficient but added cheese and then a mayonnaise type dipping sauce. We were hoping to meet up with the chef after he came by to the table next to us but never came out to the floor while we were there. In summary, the warm bread - two thumbs up, the appetizers were delicious, the decor was awesome and it's BYOB. It's unlikely we'll be back.

Yelp
Bistro D'azur is simply the best in class for this part of New Jersey. Great for special occasions and intimate dinners, it offers the best combination of intimate, low key and elegant. The food is extraordinary, and the service sublime. From the bread at the table to the delicious desserts -- have the cheese course! -- you'll leave very satisfied, and the hosts, Mary and Tom, the hosts, will treat you like family-- family with all the warmth and none of the recriminations, so maybe better than family! My husband had the fish, and I had the lamb. Simply delicious. We'll absolutely be back.

Yelp
OMG! What a jewel! The food is so good here, you get the feeling that the chefs are having the time of their creative lives! Colorful, unique, charming (think edible velvety flowers, crisp nuts and seeds, organic vegetables, exotic cheeses, etc) details in the ingredients...you can just see the chefs shopping at markets, delighted by whatever fresh, daily, in-season goodies might be available and gathering them up for our consumption. And then just simple, masterful implementation of classics, such as Creme Brûlée. I took Hans here for a little Mommy-Son time and a French-Asian family sat next to us speaking French the whole time so it felt like we had actually flown to France for dinner. Beautiful decor and lovely staff. #ouioui #oohlala #bonappetit #jadore https://www.bistrodazur.com

Yelp
Sad to post such a mediocre review; however having been here at least 1/2 dozen times in the past 3 years, our party of 4 did not leave as happy customers this week. While service is always wonderful - the portions, food prep and flavor were sorely lacking. We are not big eaters, that said, portions - especially the appetizers, were teeny - the risotto maybe 2 large tablespoons! The lobster crepe - always a favorite - now half the size. The meals - were also a disappointment... the 2 lamb ribs - relatively thin, were served so raw that we had to send back to the kitchen; upon return, while a touch less rare - were still undercooked. The ahi-ish tuna was uneventful and lacked any presentation. It appeared as a slab of tuna from a fish store placed on a platter. After a few bites, I realized it sat on a small bed, a very small bed of beets (maybe 6 or 7 little bite size pieces.) The tuna lacked any seasoning, flavor, garnish - and other than a typical tuna texture, had little flavor. The dessert - while wonderful and the most expressive of everything we ate that evening - was not sufficient to offset our disappointment. I hope this was just a one-off experience.

Yelp
A new addition to the South Orange dining scene. Set on a rather sleepy block, the dining room is a lovely mix of Mediterranean rainbow of colors and an inviting setting. Their dishes offer a new flavor to the area. Desserts were lovely and quite enjoyable. Our only hesitation was that each dish had rosemary rather present which can be overwhelming - from the olive oil to the lobster crepe and paella. The lighting is heavy but once adjusted it gave the room a lovely glow. We visited in their first weeks from opening so we realize a few things were being worked on and we look forward to another visit.

Yelp
It's a fine establishment and generally very good. Unfortunately our last visit did not live up to expectations. For one, they automatically added 22% gratuity - that % is bold and not appreciated. Adding 18-20% is norm and 22% is even rare in NYC. That's uncalled for. Secondly, we found the dishes. Appetizer and Entrée very salty. After a few bites the salt dominated the taste and it becomes difficult to enjoy the food. Service was good. But given the high gratuity added combined with sub par tasting food, it will take some time for us to return. At least until the memory of salt washes away.
