Yelp
I am always looking for new and interesting restaurants (especially French/Mediterranean ) to try in hopes that they become one of the new "favorites". After reading a nice review in the NJ Monthly, I figured we would try Bistro d' Azur. The restaurant interior is beautifully done in hues of blue. It has a certain sense of sophistication, warmth and that French Riviera feel. I loved the layout which allowed for quiet, spacious dining.
The service was attentive and thorough.
We started with their assortment of bread which was baked in house and worthy of a few repeats.
Appetizers:
Grilled Octopus-chickpeas, celery, olives Nicoise
Roasted Beets Salad-baked goat cheese, arugula, fennel, radish, orange vinaigrette
Lobster Crepe- chardonnay butter, melted leeks, mushrooms
Foraged Mushroom Risotto-mushrooms, butternut squash, mascarpone, Parmigiano Reggiano
All the appetizers were excellent. The crepe had a good amount of lobster. However, the risotto stole the show. It was creamy and simply delicious. We could have had a triple portion since it was so good and a bit on the small side.
Entrees:
Roasted Lamb Rib Chops-chermoula, pearl couscous, squash, dried fruit, almond
Skate fish "Spanikorizo"-orzo, spinach, feta, dill, tomato cinnamon reduction
Roasted Venison Loin- pomme puree, Brussel sprouts, glazed carrots, juniper glace
Monk fish-braised fennel, leeks, potato, mussels, bouillabaisse reduction, rouille, crostini
Again all the dishes were excellent, perfectly cooked and beautifully executed. The bouillabaisse had great layers of flavor and depth.
Dessert:
Creme Brulee-fresh berry, tuile
Gateau de Cognac-cognac glaze, cinnamon whipped cream, fresh berries
Lemon Meringue-vanilla crumble, creme anglais, Brulee
Loved them all. The lemon meringue was served in a bowl. It's a deconstructed version of the classic pie but was leveled up a notch.
Bistor d' Azur took us back to our recent trip to the French Riviera and reminded us of the delicious, and eclectic cuisine of that region. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will certainly be coming back to this gem.
