Bistro de Lafare

The bistro was recommended to us by our hosts, Patricia and Maarten. A very good recommendation. We had very refined food for a small village bistro. Everything was elegant and well cooked, and the Baume de Venise AOC red wine selection was just to our taste. I highly recommend you to try this family bistro. It is also very suitable for families with children.

Super tasty food! One of the owners is Portuguese makes delicious specialties. Many options on their menu. Service was also top notch, especially for French standards.

I came here with a group a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the Dorade and my husband ordered the pasta with pesto. This is where it went very wrong. The waiter insisted that the pasta with pesto was only for cyclists looking to refuel and he needed to order something more expensive from the menu. This was deeply embarrassing. He ordered this plain dish as he is recieving radiotherapy treatment for his cancer, but we were forced to explain this to be 'permitted' to order this meal. This is not mentioned on the menu and is completely unreasonable, regardless. After ordering, we waited over an hour for our food to come. Whilst eating, a few people mentioned the smell of fish that had expired. It turned out to be my Dorade. I was already feeling very uncomfortable due to the way my husband had been treated that I decided not to send it back, and just left the fish once I realised it was off. A really disappointing experience overall.

We happened upon this bistro almost by mistake. The food here though is totally serious and wonderful. We can highly recommend it. We had a pork chop that was outstanding and the ratatouille was probably the best we ever had. The house wine, at least the red, was a terrific value by the pitcher.

This is a 3, not a 4.5 in my opinion. Unseasoned food. Fries were good. Burger was ok, but the tuna was not... Coffee was terrible, but wine was fine. Hit and miss but not the level expected.

Tucked away off the main road but worth a detour. Good choice of drinks and very acceptable options on menu. Salads are large! Shaded seating both in and out.

We enjoyed a really good meal at this bistro de pays. The menu du jour was excellent value and the food was high quality. Warm, friendly service from the staff.
