We came here to try some ćevapi in somun, and the food itself was good — no complaints there. However, a few things happened that really affected the overall experience.
When we arrived, there were two waiters and the place wasn’t crowded at all — only three tables were occupied. After waiting for about 7–8 minutes with no one coming to take our order, we went inside to ask if we needed to order there or if someone would take orders outside. We were told that someone would come shortly. It was then that we noticed why no waiter was attending to the tables — an argument between the staff was taking place inside, right in front of guests.
We didn’t take this too personally and decided to wait. A couple of minutes later, a waiter came and took our order, which arrived quickly — in about 4–5 minutes.
About five minutes after the food was served, the same waiter came over and asked if we would be paying by cash or card. We said card, and he left. But then, just a minute or two later — while we were still eating, literally with food in our mouths and half our plates still full — he came back with the card terminal and told us we needed to pay now.
We were stunned. In all my years of dining out, I’ve never experienced being asked to pay in the middle of a meal. It was rude, unprofessional, and completely ruined the atmosphere. When we told him we were still eating, he simply said he had to do it, showing no care or understanding.
This level of unprofessional behavior, combined with news reports about food poisoning incidents at this same restaurant, just reinforces why many people avoid Bistro Dolac. Unfortunately, our experience confirmed that it lacks both professionalism and respect toward guests.
Would I recommend it?
No — there are much better places to enjoy ćevapi in Zagreb
