Unfortunately, our experience at this French restaurant was quite disappointing. It took over an hour for our food to arrive, and when it finally did, the quality was far below expectations. The chicken had a bitter taste, the pasta was undercooked, and even the bread served at the beginning was burnt. After our meal was served, the server never came back to check on us or ask how things were, so we couldn’t even request anything else. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, I wouldn’t recommend this place.😞

I recently visited a French restaurant in Soho with friends, and it was such a delightful experience. We enjoyed Aperol Spritz, and I ordered the Coq au Vin, which was absolutely delicious. The dish featured tender chicken with sautéed mushrooms and a rich, wine-based sauce. The portion size was generous, too. We sat at one of the small outdoor tables, and it truly felt like the best weather day of the year. The evening breeze paired with a great meal perfectly captured the spirit of Soho. Stumbling upon this place was definitely the highlight of the day. I absolutely love Soho!

Google
Waiter Angelo was a delight, and staff in general is excellent and attentive. Food is delicious, large portions and good price. The squash soup was some of the best, and the steak au poivre was cooked perfectly and the sauce is the best part. Quiet enough for a busy restaurant to enjoy dinner. Earned some extra points and will return for allowing a food delivery worker to use their restroom who was denied next door—caring staff.

My friend and I stopped at Bistro Les Amis because she was craving onion soup. We were delighted by it. The soup ($16.00) was good, the environment good, and the attention very cordial. I added just a few pictures, including one of my soup after I started it. Visit this place, you will enjoy it.

One of my favorite go-to restaurants in New York. Not pretentious, not over the top. Just great food and service

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last night at the restaurant. It didn’t disappoint us. We had a corner table and able to sit side by side (this made it easy for sharing the delicious food) with candlelight behind us. It was dimly lit and some smooth jazz playing in the background. The noise level was perfect and we were able to have a conversation without having to yell. Vibes were romantic. Apps: Foie gras, steak tartare, and jumbo shrimp Entrees: braised lamb shank and duck Rankings 1) Lamb shank 2) Duck (my boyfriend said the foie gras) 3) foie gras 4) steak tartare 5) shrimp I paired my apps with the veratini and my entree with the oyster bay Pinot noir. The lamb shank fell off the bone. I loved the cherry mixed in the wild rice in my duck dish. It was cooked perfectly at medium rare. The foie gras mixed with Concord grapes and poached apple paired nicely with fatty liver. The tartare was presented beautifully, it had the perfect amount of mustard. The shrimp was refreshing and cleaned our palate. We wholeheartedly enjoyed every bite of every dish and worth visiting again.

Came here because I was craving French onion soup and was told this restaurant is known for it. We came in around 8pm on a Wednesday night and were able to get seated without a reservation. The French onion soup was great and so were the service and vibe of this place. I will be back for more soup :)

Google
Nice French bistro. I suggest the outside tables so you can catch all the night life passing by. The rib eye was a weekend special and it was really good, just partially over cooked it. I suggest the frisse salad also.

Yelp
I must have walked past this place hundreds of times assuming it was a tourist trap. I was wrong. 28 years in business at a prominent corner in SoHo says something. This place is the real deal and I'm glad we finally tried it. They have a great happy hour, plenty of al fresco dining tables perfect for people watching, an inviting interior, great food, and a friendly staff. We have a winner!

Yelp
I used to go here a lot when I worked in the area (over 7 years ago) and this was my first time back post-pandemic. NYC changes a lot over time but this place keeps on going because it is that good. Charming ambiance. Excellent and kind service. Small but great wine list and amazing food at reasonable prices for the area (i.e not $80-100 an entree). I have a gluten allergy so appreciate that everything is labeled and most of the menu is available.

Yelp
Food was very delicious. Cappuccino was perfection. Omelette was really good and soft, mushrooms cooked to perfection. Croissant French toast was the best thing I've ever eaten!! French onion soup was also really good. My husband really liked it. We finished it to the last drop. Best part was my dog could join our brunch
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in only for dessert and my gosh the blueberry crumble pie totally blew us away. I'm not a huge blueberry person but the consistency was smooth and the flavors were delicious. The ice cream scoop on top is the perfect texture and amount. We also had the tiramisu and a coffee which were awesome but the crumble was on an entirely different level. The tiramisu had a berry sauce on the side. I can't speak to the food but I would definitely come back to give it a try and to eat the pie again. The establishment is very cute in a prime location and everyone was very nice and called us beautiful.

Yelp
Solid French bistro. Excellent service from Angelo. Onion soup was perfect. Moules/frites also good. A little small on the size but great seasoning. Quiet ambiance. Will return.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now with a big group. They were fabulous about accommodating us both times. It's more of a neighborhood haunt feel, which I love love love! Wish I had a place in my neighborhood like this! Food is delicious-have had the fried gnocchi, French dip, calamari and dessert (love the profiteroles and lava cake). Friends have had crab cakes, burger and coq au vin and chicken paillard and have loved it. Reasonable and delicious wines. The service is always gracious and they take care of you. While I don't live in the neighborhood this is becoming my go-to in Soho for a lovely time with good food

Yelp
Despite the incredibly tight seating and a bit of a service lag toward the end of the night, Bistro Les Amis is a quintessential NYC French bistro. The menu is expansive with no corners cut. The portions are large, plated well, and prepared with care. The prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Been a few years so I figure it was time for an update. French onion soup remains fantastic, genuinely one of the best I've had (melted Gruyère is the best part). Tried the duck, which I overall enjoyed but thought the flavors could've meshed together better; rice was also a touch undercooked. Dessert menu had a good selection of items but execution could've been better. The texture on the blueberry crumble was a bit weird and thought it lacked a bit of flavor (granted blueberries are out of season right now). I also didn't like the texture on the apple tart, found it very mushy, but flavor-wise thought the tartness balanced the sweetness very well. Chocolate lava cake was okay, I've had better elsewhere. That being said, service was great and I appreciated how friendly and attentive our waiter was.

Yelp
The staff were super helpful and made incredible suggestions. The place was cute small and quite French... as it can be in nyc lol. The food and wine pairing was perfectly chosen and cooked! To be there on a Saturday the meals didn't take long... I'm coming back for that lobster grilled cheese!

Noga M.

Yelp
This food is not edible at all. Yeah it's in hart of Soho, but doesn't it mean anything. Dry old bread that heated up , frozen butter oh well, it's not even French. Little more attention for that food I had Nicoise salad how you can make it so so bad I don't understand. I don't recommend it at all. The first salad was the same not edible. French fries disgusting. Charges so much for food its not worth it. We ask the table next to us. how is your food? They say i will give it 3 from 10 the same thing as i give them. Dont go there........

Yelp
It's always a bit of a trip when you go into a place and watch the owner greet every other table (in a restaurant with maybe 6 patrons) and even stop by their table to check in multiple times, but avoid yours for the full hour plus of your visit. Stopped in for their happy hour. Had a perfectly adequate Aperol spritz and half dozen oysters, about half of which were gritty. The bread was warm and crusty, and the chilled gazpacho was chunky and flavorful. Would have been a cute little hole-in-the-wall find, if not for the microaggressions.

Yelp
Decent place for French food and other types of dishes. I can't say that this place has the most authentic French food but it does the job. We walked in on a Friday night and got seated outside. The inside is nice and cozy and ambient so I wish we could have sat there but we didn't have reservations so we were ok. The outside space is pretty spacious so we weee able to spread out. We were a party of 4 so we ordered several items. We have some prix fixe menu items and then I got the duck breast. Another individual got the steak frites. I got my duck breast medium and it did not disappoint. It was delicious that I legit thought about ordering another entree but I held back to save room for dessert. Among the other dishes on the table, there were steak frites, mussels, salmon and also split pea soup and salad. All of the entrees were delicious and hit the spot. The desserts were also very rich, fruitful and flavorful. The sorbets were fruity and not too sweet. The chocolate lava cake was rich and the ice cream helped balance the dish out. All in all this was a good experience to get some sort of French cuisine though I think the scope of the menu was a little too broad...but regardless, I'll still probably return here again to try out some other entrees like the lobster risotto.

Yelp
Great restaurant with really good happy hour deals. Their aperol spritz is great, service is good, and lots of outdoor seating. I got oysters, which I'm not a big fan of, but their food otherwise is really good.

Yelp
Was able to do a walk-in for one, outdoors on a beautiful sunny day in New York. The service was quick and food was good. Exactly what you would expect at the very reasonable value. Got the chicken paillard which was served quickly with fries. Washed it down with a Les Amis cocktail and people watched for an hour. Can't get any better!

Yelp
Has dinner at Bistro Les Amis on a busy Saturday evening but they managed the crowd well. We started with the Foie Gras and the Onion Soup. The Foie Gras was absolutely wonderful and the Onion Soup was good though after reading some of the other review had expected a little more (the broth was a little thin). The Duck Breast entree though was excellent - nicely prepared and presented. We also were very impressed with the Profiteroles for dessert. Our server Ben was very personable and helpful. Overall, great quaint bistro to have a nice meal.

Yelp
Had the poutine during happy hour, it was good. Their selection of dessert cocktails is amazing, which is a happy surprise for someone like me who absolutely loves a grasshopper or a White Russian. My server/bartender was very accommodating. Great place to chill out and people watch in the middle of the day.

Yelp
There's a scene in Julie and Julia, Meryl Streep and Amy Adam's great film, and Julie is cooking Beef Bourguignon and sets the timer for 2 1/2 hours, falls asleep and burns the stew! Yikes! So devastated she calls out sick the next day. Well... if Julie needed to order a Beef Bourguignon quick, Bistro Le Amis would be the place to call. I've dined here numerous times and cannot tell you why there has been no review? Quelle diastre! Le Amis is a really good brasserie where you can dine on escargot for an appetizer or a Croque Monsieur. There are also delicious pastas like linguini with scallops and shrimp in a garlic sauce. The salads range from Caesar to Beet to Arugula. I've dined on the above but tonight my friend and I chose to dine differently. First, we ordered the Escargot in a puff pastry in garlic. I have never tried escargot thus my first time: they tasted like small mushrooms in a pastry pie shell. Actually, not so bad! The garlic sauce with parsley was decadent and delicious. Then we both let our inner Julia Child's select our entrees: Rochelle ate the Beef Bourguignon: decadent and elegant beef stew with big chunks of beef braised in red wine and beef stock sitting on a bed of pasta with carrots, mushrooms and potatoes. She loved it! I chose Coq Au Vin: braised chicken served in a rich red wine sauce with pearl onions, mushrooms, carrots and the creamiest mashed potatoes. It was delicious! Julia would have consumed the whole dish as I did! There were dinner specials like Lobster Frilled Cheese and Chicken Cordon Bleu as well as many other dishes to choose from. The Happy Hour from 3:30-6:30 pm featured mostly $13 drinks like Aperol Spritz, Margaritas and French Martini. There definitely were "happy" patrons at the bar tonight! The food has been consistently good pre and post pandemic which shows how resilient Le Amis is. I had to take one star off, sorry to say, due to one staff member coughing with no mask. As Julia Child and you yourself might say: Bon Appetit!

Yelp
Cute French bistro in Soho but the last time I was here I got the steak frites and the steak was raw, even though I had asked for it to be cooked medium. Staff was very kind though. I would try coming back one day!

Yelp
We have been to Bistro Les Amis on a few different occasions. It's a great staple for when we want something solid and would like to go out for dinner last minute as they have a good amount of seating. I personally enjoy going in the summer when they have outdoor seating and the chairs and tables mimic the classic French bistro style tables. We have ordered the gnocchi a few times. It's interesting because it's actually fried and then covered in pesto. I'm used to (and prefer) boiled but my dinner mates like it. The French onion soup is loaded with cheese and onions. The French dip sandwich is pretty good, I just wish there were onions on the actual sandwich. On the dinner menu we really love the escargot in the puff pastry. We always get that and steak tartar. We will be back!

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch because it looked very promising. The night before we saw "Piaf -The Show" so à French Bistro seemed perfect. The ambiance is appealing with a nice bar and typical line up of small tables along the wall. We began with an Aperol Spritz. I watched the je bartender make it and I could see it was all wrong. Mostly Prosecco club soda with a splash of Aperol. Very watered down. We split the scrambled eggs with chives which was on the menu. Only when the order arrived there were no chives. I mentioned this to the waiter who checked with the kitchen and came back say "they were out of chives." It was strange since there were only 3 tables and it was only about 12:30. I finished with a latte which was hot - that's the best thing I can say about the food. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this establishment.

Alden K.

Yelp
The crab cakes app($18). It came with greens and slaw. The slaw was almost flavorless, but actually paired excellently with the crab cakes. It is crab cakes, plural. But full disclosure, they were very small. But wow, they were tasty. The sauce that came with it had a nice little kick. Really a delicious appetizer. I might order it again as my lunch. But it might be better as an app for 1 or 2 people. My wife ordered the duck confit sandwich. The egg came out over easy and spilled everywhere. I imagine some people might want to specify over medium or whatever they prefer. But my wife enjoyed it over easy. I don't think she would have liked it any other way. She said she loved the sandwich. The free crusty bread was really delicious. Overall excellent experience.

Yelp
Nice ambience and good service. The food however, unfortunately was just pretty good. I mean it's good, but nothing very special i want to come back again..

Yelp
Great little Soho find! Friendly service, good food, fun outdoor seating. We didn't have reservations and were graciously received by the excellent staff. Picky menu special requests were no problem!

Yelp
Absolutely a wonderful restaurant to spend time with friends and adult family members. Good food and great memories.

Yelp
One of the most pleasant dining experiences in SoHo. The service was incredible, the food was tasty and filling, and the drinks were beautiful. I ordered the aperol spritz which was made to perfection, the hanger steak and potatoes which was cooked perfectly. I wish I had a picture of the steak or drinks but I devoured them so quickly! We ordered flan and tiramisu for dessert. Flan had more of a gelatin than a creamy texture but had the most beautiful sauce. Service was incredible, everyone was so accommodating. The restaurant itself is splendid.

Mollye R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious neighborhood spot. Love coming here with friends or on a date. Recommend the burger or the Nicoise.

Yelp
Delicious!! Everything was so good!! Try the french dip, so yummy!! The caesar salad with chicken~ mmmm. So fresh! Their bread and butter--wowza. Great service!!

Yelp
Came for date night and ordered the Foie Gras, Ravioli and the Duck Breast. I enjoyed the duck breast but thought the ravioli was a bit bland. Food was good but the space was tight. Definitely felt like a family owned business. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff.

Yelp
I have been put on a bunch of projects at work where I am so lost and confused about what I am doing. Many of the things I am working on is a bit above my pay grade and I have been stressed out about it for while. Whenever I get imposter syndrome so intense like this, I usually reach out to my mentor/friend to get his thoughts on things. He doesn't really like it, but he never says no? I had a hair appointment in Soho so I asked him to pick a place around the salon. He chose this place and I met up with him with my bomb new hair. He didn't comment on my hair so I was a bit annoyed, but we got over it. Haha I looked over the brunch menu here so many times and could not decide what I wanted. Yelp was a bit misleading because a lot of the food posted were not on the menu anymore (not you yelpers' fault). I was planning on getting the fried gnocchi, but while I was deciding on food, I ate three large chunks of bread that they brought out. By the way, the bread is spectacular! Their butter could be a bit better, but wow! My friend didn't want to eat so much carbs so I ate the entire thing and even asked them to pack some with my leftovers. They so graciously did. I ended up getting the yellow fin tuna Niçoise salad and it was made very well. You can definitely tell that the tuna was very fresh! The drinks here are very weak and I would not suggest to be honest, but the bread. I cannot get enough of it!

Yelp
One of the best French onion soup and escargot that I ever had. Lamb shank fell of the bone and melted in your mouth. Duck breast and lobster risotto were outstanding.

Yelp
We spontaneously stopped by this restaurant for dinner and since we're still COVID cautious, stopped by this restaurant since we saw that they had outdoor seating available. It was a rainy Wednesday evening and were able to be seated right away as there was no one else outside for outdoor dining. We ordered the mushroom soup as an appetizer and it went quite well with the complimentary bread and butter. The bread and butter were super yummy! I'm a fan of the bread being slightly crispy on the outside with a light and almost airy inside. The soup was definitely tasty and was even tastier in the cold and rainy weather. It had a strong taste of garlic and wasn't on the creamy side, so if you're not a fan of garlic, I wouldn't recommend it. Next, we ordered the cassoulet and roasted muscovy duck breast for entrees. If you're going with someone and like to share dishes, I would recommend these two. The flavor profiles are very different from one another but both tasted pretty good. My duck breast was cooked perfectly--I ordered it to be medium and the sweet glaze that went with it with the couscous underneath was delicious! The cassoulet was on the salty side and the beans and sausage that went into the dish definitely elevated it. It's served in a mini dutch oven and was very very tasty. A pretty solid French restaurant that I would frequent again whenever I'm craving French food! Helpful that it has outdoor seating with heat lamps available.
google avatar

Mary P.

Yelp
I've always admired the outdoor seating down spring street and this place caught my eye several times but I was never in the mood for eating until today. I thoroughly enjoyed the rare January outdoor experience here. When NYC decides to follow up freezing temps with a balmy 60s you'd better believe people want to eat outside. The meal starts with a crusty bread and butter. I had steak frites which were satisfying but not mind blowing. My friends blackened salmon on greens were far better in flavor but I still enjoyed steak and fries like my basic meat and potato loving self required. The server was pretty attentive despite us being tucked on the side of the restaurant. I'd come back again to try a pasta meal. The servings are very generous indeed.

Bobby H.

Yelp
Super underrated. Friendliest staff, food is amazing. Authentic French bistro vibes and option to sit outside on a sunny day.

Happy N.

Yelp
I just love love love this place. It's quite unassuming and fuss-free but once you're inside and order your first drink, you're immediately moved to if not Paris, then NYC rendition of it from a long time ago, when things were simple, service was prompt and allergies were nonexistent. The food is classic and lovely, the options abundant and waiters are simply the best - good ol' NYC school.

Yelp
Do not waist your money and time here... You can find so many better restaurants than here in NYC. 1. Owner is so rude and horrible, he curses at the customer. 2. Dirty water with black particles 3. Service is super slow. Takes 25mins to get a glass of water. 4. They charge you 20% mandatory tip without any notice. We were group of 2 people. Can't believe this restaurant has 4 stars...
google avatar

Hyeyoon J.

Yelp
I wish I could give a 0 star. Owner, bartender, and server are so rude. I went there with a friend during happy hour and ordered a moscow mule, a cucumber rosemary martini, and a chocolate molten cake. We got the water, and both of us had black dust in it. We politely asked them for another glass of water. But we had to wait almost 30 minutes for water, drinks, and dessert. We didn't really complain about it since the other customers who came after us got water and drinks faster. Upon getting our drink in 30 minutes, my Moscow Mule did not taste of alcohol. It tasted like tap water with lime juice. Thus, I politely requested the server to make my drink a bit stronger since I felt it was too light. We didn't get the water until then. Owner suddenly appeared and began screaming at us, and said you ordered happy hour why are you complaining. After he yelled at us, I got my drink and the water, but the water still contained black dust, so we weren't able to drink it. I asked for the check and they charged me 20% of the tip. Didn't even informed to us. When more than six people visit a restaurant, does the restaurant automatically charge gratitude? There were only 2 of us and the restaurant charged 20%. Due to the rude service, I went back to the restaurant and told them I couldn't pay the 20% tip. I suddenly heard owner yell at me, saying you ordered happy hour, so I must charge you 20%, and he started cursing at me, and complaining about the drink I ordered earlier. I told him that because of your attitude, I can't give you 20%. He literally threw the pen at me after yelling and cursing, rescinding my payment. Why do you have happy hour if you want mandatory 20% of the tip? Please avoid this place!!!

Christine V.

Yelp
we brought a group of six in lunch earlier this week and couldn't have been happier with the food or service. the warmed goat cheese salad was incredible and everyone loved their entrees. we also enjoyed a couple bottles of terrific champagne. a wonderful experience - thank you for having us!
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick Cappuccino and a Gazpacho. Hot and humid day deserves some nice chilled soup. It came out, and it's more like cold watery salsa. This has onion skins and othe inedible parts. Where's the creaminess, the flavor. This us horrible. We were going to order more, but after tasting this, there's no way we'd try anything else.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Great place. Super friendly service. The quinoa n lake salad was good. The curry chicken tasted a little sour, not sure if it was spoiled? Or supposed to taste sour? The linguine w meat sauce was excellent! Pasta perfectly al dente. The steak sandwich was a little bland, I guess that's why they serve it with a sauce in the side. Aperol spritz was refreshing but $14 bc we were too early fur happy hour. They have Sunday happy hour 2:30 -6pm. It's a great soho spot to eat, n people watch.
google avatar

Angelina Z.

Yelp
I came here once before in 2018 and the dinner was excellent. This time seeing it wasn't the case, everything felt rushed, they brought all the courses at the same time and there were no space on the table, as the table was served a glass was knocked over. The food was uneatable, except for the French onion soup which is not easy to mess up. The French fires were dry and burned. Muscles smelled bad, the texture was strange, overall as a muscle lover this was my worse experience. The steak we ordered as medium came in as rare. The lobster grilled cheese was awful.
google avatar

D. W.

Yelp
Just needed a place to sit and refuel for the rest of the day. Very good food and the service was excellent. Bread and butter to start is always nice and it got better from there. Just what we needed to walk another 5,000 steps.

Christine H.

Yelp
Bland food, crowded space but speedy and friendly service. Perhaps because I'm french, I couldn't connect to this americanized version of French bistro food. The cassoulet was greasy and lacked flavor, the blueberry crumble was totally bland and gelatine like. There has to be better french bistro food in NYC for the price. Not going back.
google avatar

Glayde M.

Yelp
My husband and I stumbled on it for over ten years ago when this what used to be an amazing French restaurant for many years. We live in Michigan and once year come to NY to visit. We always made a point to have a meal at the awesome, used to be, little find. For two and a half years, because of the pandemic we could not come. Tonight, I finally made it back and to my extreme disappointment we found a very different place than the one we grew so fond of over the years. The menu is no longer French. It's a mix of Italian, American and a few French little things to sustain its name. We are so hurt to have lost our fondest place to a what I don't know what to describe this restaurant. For sure it isn't a French one. So, lower your expectations before you get a gut punch as we did. Very heart broken!

Dee D.

Yelp
I loved their stuff years ago. I can't feel the same about it now. The bread is still wonderful though, warm, pillowy soft, and crusty of the outside. Ordered French onion soup, steak frites, and lamb rack. The soup is just okay. Nice and cheesy but the soup itself felt like it was missing something. The steak was very chewy. Low grade. It was also under seasoned. The lamb rack was tasty, but it was very blue. Highlight of the meal really was the house bread.

Kenneth L.

Yelp
The food was good to excellent. Prices high to outrageous. It is NYC, but I'm not sure the added price of going to NYC (esp. after adding in parking/tolls/headaches) is worth leaving NJ for. Places just as good here, at much more reasonable prices....especially drinks.
