Review: Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris’ Is Completely Lacking in Flavor - Eater

"The most egregious example, I think, takes place at the bistro where, unbeknownst to Emily, her potential new boyfriend Gabriel works as head chef. In a trope as well done as a Shake Shack patty, she sends her steak back, complaining it is undercooked." - Joshua David Stein

An unforgettable experience at Bistro V! From start to finish, everything about our visit was outstanding. The service was truly spectacular. We had some difficulty choosing the right drinks, and the staff went above and beyond to help us find the perfect pairing for our meal. Even after ordering, they gave us the flexibility to adjust our selection, which we really appreciated. The food was just as impressive. The starter with onion and rose was beautifully balanced and full of flavor, while the carrot purée with citrus and pomerade added a unique and refreshing twist. Another outstanding dish was the goat cheese with truffle, perfectly blended and served with a heavenly, foamy texture that made each bite feel special. Bistro V combines creative cuisine with warm, thoughtful service. Highly recommended. We’ll definitely be back! Disclaimer: My pictures do not do justice to the dishes.

Firstly, the service and ambiance was amazing. The waitress kindly and patiently explains and introduces you to the dish each time something new is served. As for the food, each dish was unique, delicious and well presented. You can tell that care and time went into preparing each of the dishes. Cannot recommend this place enough and you must visit if you are in Paris.

I love this place and owner. It’s not my first time. Everything was amazing, the service was kind (by the amazing owner), all dishes were so tasty, atmosphere was perfect, cosy, warm and pleasant. Can’t wait for my next visit in Bostro V!!!

6 course meal, you'll probably have to plan 1-2 hours here since it can take some time in between dishes. Budget around €80 per person (more if you get wine). I REALLY liked everything we got up to the dessert! The appetizers were so unique and refreshing, the entree of octopus and lamb were so tasty and the sauces accompanying were super fun! My only gripe is the desserts (which were very focused on being lightweight) were not really up my personal ally. But for the price (relative to other multi-course "fancy" meals), it's a very nice experience!

Edit to answer response: Very rude response from a business owner that pretty much sums up the attitude of this establishment, if a customer is not happy I believe you should do everything you can to remedy the situation instead of just saying “désolé”. The table next to me also complained about the dry lamb so I know for a fact I wasn’t the only one and I have since spoken to people that have also been to the restaurant in the past and had been fooled by these reviews and pictures. Truly the worst dining experience of my life. Don’t be deceived but the pictures and other reviews… this place will leave you disappointed. Even with the fork discount we felt truly scammed. The place is completely let go, as we walked in we weren’t given a table, sat ourselves down and the chair was broken. The waiter was kind but not trained and not suitable for this kind of restaurant. The place was so dirty and messy I can only imagine the kitchen. There is no atmosphere, it’s in-between two busy bars and isn’t in a nice place in Paris. Then the food…served on dirty plates and mismatching cutlery: dry lamb, cold and tasteless. For the wine the only option was one glass for €15 or bundles of wine for €60. The worst part is that this place is trying to be fancy and has a high price point… it’s truly scamming people as the service, food and atmosphere are not up to it.

It was a cosy friendly atmosphere restaurant. Since the moment we arrived we received very warm welcome from the workers there and spend one lovely evening. We had very clear and detailed explanations about every course we ate. Meanwhile they have various choice for wine selection. It’s a restaurant which makes seasonal menu course with a reasonable price. From appetizers to dessert, the taste of the food was progressive , i enjoyed a lot . The beef which cooked for 14 hours was absolute delicious, so did the fresh fish on the main course. The combination of blue cheese and dark chocolate was eye-catching , and they tasted surprisingly good. I’ll definitely be back again here someday.

If I could give this restaurant 1000 stars, I would! If you’re in Paris, you cannot miss it. The place is very cozy, well maintained and the service is excellent. Now, the food, it is heaven on earth. I was looking online for an authentic French restaurant and Bistro V was featured in an article of Michelin star restaurants, Bistro V being the only one without one and it exceeded my expectations. We got a menu paired with wine for every course and it was the best decision ever, it’s an experience you cannot miss. The owner was there and she was extremely friendly and helpful, she guided us through the menu and wines. While waiting for the menu, we got an entree that was definitely one of the most delicious this I’ve ever tried. I am definitely not a dessert person, but this one just made me want more. I know every time I come to Paris, I will definitely pay them a visit. Also, they have a rosemary infused rum that was spectacular, one of a kind! Thank you Bistro V, you made my stay in Paris 100% better! The world need more restaurants like this.

Google
Very nice and pleasant small restaurant. The menu is fixed and original full of flavour. Adapted for vegetarians and, if you do not get the option with meat, almost kosher.

Yelp
I had really high expectations after looking at reviews and pictures online. Unfortunately, the tasting menu they had when we went didn't measure up. It probably didn't help that I had one of the best meals of my life the night before. It also REALLY didn't help that when we walked in it smelled like urine. My wife told me that the stargazer lillies that were in the restaurant smell like that to some people. The first five courses were good, but not great. The final course, the sesame ice cream dessert was my favorite. Service was fantastic. We also loved the patio where we ate.

Yelp
A pretty good address ! The 3-course menu at €65 is a good deal. The dishes are well executed. The menu offers vegetarian options as well as 2 meat options and one or two fish options depending on the plat du jour. The ambiance is relaxed but elegant. The wine list has bottles and by the glass options. The by-the-glass option is covering Bordeaux, Bourgogne and the Rhône regions in red and white.

Yelp
There are not enough words to describe how incredible our dinner was at Bistro V. From the escargot and watermelon salad to the incredibly juicy duck breast chargrilled to perfection on lava stone, our experience here was nothing short of exquisite. Was the service slow? Maybe for some, but absolutely not if you knew that Julie is the only server for the entire little bistro; we didn't see her stop moving the entire night! She took really good care of us, even though we didn't have a reservation. And for that, we are thankful! The TLDR of this review is this: just eat here. Make a reservation already and dine here. If you're not sure what to get, Julie will absolutely let you know! I could write a 10-page essay on how amazing our dinner was here but it'll save you and I some time if you just ate here.

Yelp
Thank you so much to Julie and Benjamin for such an enjoyable experience! Genuinely had a great time conversing with the staff. Meal was well paced and delicious -- would recommend!

Yelp
We went here for our New Year's dinner. Being from New York, we were skeptical of a prix fixe menu since they're so overrated and overpriced in the city. But not so at Bistro V. Our meal was so outstanding. It was our best in both Paris and Bruges. It totally blew us away and the atmosphere of the place was exactly how we wanted to close our 2018 and usher in the new year: warm, inviting, unpretentious, delicious. We had the roasted Camembert cheese and baguette for an appetizer which was this little dish of heaven. Everything you want in cheese in Paris. Then we had the pumpkin risotto with roasted chestnuts, which I still dream about - creamy but light and crunchy and unique. Also had some kind of vanilla and raspberry meringue and ice cream dessert, which was so delicious, and a creamy cheese platter. I've been recommending this place to everyone since. This is a must go, a wonderful surprise. 5 stars!!!!!!!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to come here after seeing the reviews and it did not disappoint. In fact, this exceeded all expectations. Julie was amazing and made us feel at home. All of her recommendations including our wine pairing were perfect. The plating alone was absolutely beautiful. This has by far been our favorite meal in Paris. We will be talking about this for years to come, "Remember that steak and Tuna in Paris? Oh and that tartare!" I'm so full but I could force myself to eat more of the lemon cream. You can't go wrong with anything off this menu, it was all fantastic. Do not hesitate to make this your new favorite spot!

Yelp
Two nights ago I had the pleasure of dining at Bistro V. It was a lovely experience. My wife and I plus two of our friends cannot stop raving about how much we enjoyed the ambiance, food, and most of all the service we received from this local, traditional French restaurant. Currently I live in New York. I dine out regularly and I can truthfully say the food at Bistro V rivals anything I've eaten in NYC. It was the best meal we had in Paris. Yes the menu is small, but it still had something for everyone in our group. The owner was the only server working. She was incredibly sweet. She spoke fantastic English and described all of her menu items perfectly, cracking a few jokes along the way. We felt as if we were guests in her own home. She also made all of our drinks. When my friend requested a special Gin she did not have in stock, she walked to the liquor store close by and purchased a bottle so he could enjoy his favorite drink during our meal. Even if you are not staying within walking distance of this establishment during your trip to Paris, I highly recommend you find a way to visit Bistro V.

Yelp
Unexpected find when our reservations at Frenchie were messed up. The owner was very friendly. We had dinner with the wine pairing. Each course and wine paring was carefully crafted and selected and complemented each other perfectly. We were never rushed, giving us ample time to savor each course. I had duck breast that was cooked perfectly. The salmon ceviche was fresh and crisp. I did not care for the choice of cheese but that's only a choice, not that it was bad. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
It was a happy accident that brought us to Bistro V and it turned into a memorable experience. I opted for the Spring Rolls as a starter and they were flavorful even before adding the sweet chili sauce. For my main course I had the beef which came sliced with a delicious pepper corm sauce and roasted potatoes. For dessert I had the chocolate delight which turned out to be a perfect ending to the meal. We also took advantage of the wine pairing which added to the enjoyment of the evening, we will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I was very happy to have visited Bistro V. I was in a neighborhood I did not know well and spending a day and night in Paris before taking a train to my final destination in France. What a great find using Yelp for Bistro V. Currently, Bistro V have 5 stars, it may be more a 4 1/2 for me, ... and definitely worth a visit. This is the type of place that has a menu for the day. I love restaurants like this and you do not find them in the US. The menu when I was visiting was interesting and different. I ordered a fish on cabbage dish that was perfect (maybe it is a 5-star place!). The white wine I ordered with it was the perfect compliment. My server was super nice and super attentive. Her English was great and we had a good mix of French and English conversation. The ambiance in Bisto V was typical of a Paris bistro for this writer. During my stay there were some American tourists that walked in and then walked out after not liking the daily menu ... they really missed out. I was sad for them. I give Bistro V two thumbs up. I am glad Yelp had them written up so I could find it! Bon appetite!

Yelp
Amazing food and wine! The escargot was just the start of a wonderful meal. The duck was one of the best meals I have ever had. The service was great! As an American ordering can sometimes be difficult.... but not here! The staff was very helpful with helping us to find the best meals. I would definitely recommend coming here and having delicious French cuisine with a top notch dining experience!

Yelp
Delicious duck breast. Wow. It's always a gamble with duck breast because you never know if it'll be dry or not but this was amazing. Pouched egg appetizer was also a pleasant surprise. Oddly the place was empty on a Thursday night so no worries about waiting for a table. Decently priced and great service.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant was amazing. Julia was welcoming, warm and patient. All of her recommendations were spot-on, from the refreshing watermelon salad, to the most tender duck breasts known to man, all the way to the Camembert and wine for dessert (which was better than sex). I've only been in Paris for a week, but this is my favorite place by far. I can't wait for my family to visit, because this place is #1 on my list to visit.

Yelp
This restaurant is INCREDIBLE!!! I had the best cheese of my life... twice! Once was the appetizer - I had the camabert with truffle oil. The second was the dessert - I had the cheese plate. Both were delicious. I also had the duck with plantains and apricot and it was incredible. Also, we had wine. Great wine. Music is playing. I'm tipsy. Come here.

Yelp
My family had dinner here this evening on our first night in Paris, and wow the food did not disappoint! We chose Bistro V based on other reviews on multiple sites, and we loved it. We had the spring roll appetizer, the steak dish, the risotto with salmon and shrimp, the matcha cheesecake & the lava cake. The flavors were wonderful! Nice wine selection and friendly service too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I had the best birthday meal EVER here back in September. The food was incredible [I recommend the duck!]. I can't decide what was better, the food or service! Julia made my friends and me feel so special. We had a lengthy post-meal chat and had a chance to meet and thank the chef. I cannot recommend this place enough!! Thank you, Julia!!

Yelp
Saw a few great reviews so we dropped in - best meal in Paris! Casual, comfortable, friendly and Delicious!!! Julie interpreted the menu and made suggestions for food and wine that were exquisite. Dont miss dropping by Bistro V if u are in the neighborhood - or find a reason to be!

Yelp
My husband and I come here every time we visit Paris. It's one of those wonderful neighborhood places where you are welcomed like you're old friends. The food is amazing - always fresh, cooked perfectly, elegant, with wonderfully-crafted flavors and beautiful wine. Chef Alain is supremely talented, and Julie is one of the most wonderful, kind and welcoming people I've ever met. This is the perfect place to pass a long, delightful evening on your trip to Paris. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the wonderful Bistro V!

Yelp
Amazing! My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner and it was the perfect Parisian meal. Julia made us feel welcome and treated us like special guests. This was our most delicious dinner in Paris, highly recommend the price fixed option with the wine pairing. Prices were extremely low for value and experience. I feel like this is a place you could dress up or down depending on the occasion and feel comfortable.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals we had in Paris! The duck was exceptional and the cheese starter with chorizo, AMAZING! Followed by the service! the place was packed so I highly recommend a reservation. Although the restaurant was extremely busy the service was top of the line and best I've ever received in Europe! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Paris

Yelp
This corner bistro is heaven and Julie the owner makes you feel at home. This is Latin Quarter dinner and drink spot is the best. I speak little French and I went with my two boys and we all loved it. Truffle soup is heaven.

Yelp
Had one of the best meals of my life there! Our server spoke great English, was awesome, and brought us some amazing food. Next time I'm in Paris I'm going out of my way to return!

Yelp
Delicious! I loved, loved, loved the food, atmosphere, and service at this cute & cozy restaurant! The duck breast is cooked perfectly with crispy potatoes & sweet plantains. The baked camembert appetizer will make your evening extra special. Enjoy lots of conversation and great food!

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant !!!!! We have been in Paris for 7 days , this was by far the best meal we have had during our visit . I had the salmon and mango special and my partner had the duck . We both had different deserts and they were perfect !!!! We highly recommend this Bistro and you will be impressed if you visit here.
