Bistrobar Berlin

We reserved the place for my my birthday since I love love gorgeous bistros . We walked in with seven people and our coats were taken from us . On the first mark the hostess was already surprised like why were we there , then we were seated in a gorgeous setting . When we were given the menu a bunch of us wanted to eat the set menu and they 5 surprise courses . And the bunch of us wanted the order steak and other things but the were pushy about the courses and we all ended us ordering it . The first course was steak tartare with mustard ice-cream , the second course was something similar to ceviche , the third was insane between the two lettuce like leave shell they stuffed it with cheese and walnuts , I didn’t know what to say while my friends got steak tartare with radish mayo and bonito flakes . I was absolutely flabbergasted. The fourth course was baked duck breast with fois gras mousse and jus , this was the best course and then we ended it with the dessert . I got myself a cherry daiquiri to drink but the free bread was the best part . Overall was the experience really amazing no , was it wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t want to eat here as a group again . Maybe as a date , yes . The owner was really cool dude , with whom we had a nice conversation , will visit again for the vibes and the drinks .

Great dinner again. We always trust the chef choosing the 4-course chef's menu, and we are never disappointed.

Made a reservation, noted gluten and dairy as dietary restrictions. The reservation i made was for inside of the restaurant, instead we were placed right next to the street, so every car and bus passing, was inches from us and our food. Okay, fine. As we were seated, the server brought a menu in Dutch with notations, things that are non-compliant marked with an X, things that can be made to accommodate marked with an A, and things without a mark that are compliant. And the same menu in English. Great start. We made the selections, i specifically reiterated to the server one of the things I'm ordering needs to be altered to accommodate the restrictions. After some wait, the food arrived. Placed in front of me was, from what i could tell, the original dish. I asked if there's gluten in these crackers, the server didn't know. Go ask please. Sure enough, the crackers had gluten in them. When we ask you to accommodate dietary restrictions, do you think we're playing?!?! Do we think we do this for fun?!?! I don't know if the server didn't relay this to the kitchen or the kitchen didn't care but that's just reckless and dangerous. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant. The food was meh. The spare ribs were okay but the sauces that went with them my dining partner didn't like very much. I ordered the razor clam salad which was tiny, which i can forgive, but all you could taste was garlic. And then there were the mashed baby potatoes. Not mashed, just 4 or 5 of them, tiny, cooked and cut in half, with some lettuce added, some egg white, some i assume canned olives and then drowned in a sauce that was essentially mayonnaise. So every bit was a spoonful of mayonnaise. Just no. It wasn't cheap either but I'll gladly pay for a good meal. This was not that. Food was borderline atrocious and the service was just plain bad. What a letdown.

Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant! For the same price you can get better quality at so many other places. It took 3,5 hours for us to eat since the dishes from the 5 course menu were taking each 25min to come and were cold. They also forgot our wine twice so we couldn’t really have a dish and a wine together. It wasn’t really busy inside so i can’t even say they were just under pressure.

Me and my partner went for the 5 course chefs meal on Christmas, which we mostly enjoyed. All the courses were good, or at least successfully executed with a clear concept, except for the dessert course which we found lacking. It was pumpkin ice cream served with chocolate, which was nice and novel, but it was not that satisfying especially as all other courses were quite interesting. Service was also mostly excellent, except for the waitress assigned to our table who appeared quite uninterested, possibly as we are rather young, but the general treatment came across as patronising, which kind of ruined an otherwise good experience. To make matters worse, we had to wait for course 2 before we got any kind or beverage, which I would have otherwise not minded as it was a busy night, but the negligent treatment made it sting a bit. Love the food, was unfortunate to have a waitress who’d rather have stayed home :(

The food was okay, small bites for small dinner, but the reason that we will not come again is the unfriendly service and we were visiting from Germany so we don’t speak Dutch and it was a surprise to us that we couldn’t communicate in English with the waitress. Also those small bites came after 55 minutes. Not a pleasant experience.

Quite disappointed from our stay in the restaurant yesterday. Of course it was not all bad, the food was okay (not as good as some other places we have been to for the price), but good. My friend had a lot of dietary restrictions that they followed, so that was good and well appreciated. Two times I waited for my wine - one time for ~15 minutes another time for ~10 minutes. Not only that but I had to almost beg for a server to come take my order - which I am not used to in a restaurant like this, especially for the wine. The one I waited 15 minutes for we got for free after I complained, so that was also good. The one thing that was the most disappointing on my side was that it was my birthday, my friend had written down for them to bring a candle with our desert, they did not do that. When we asked (surprise ruined), the waiter said the dietary restrictions of my friend were so many they must have missed the candle request (which was on top of everything). Using my friend’s dietary restrictions was not the best way to get out of this situation, they could have for example brought out a candle for us or at least could have wished me happy birthday and apologised. Also, we got the 5 course menu and none of the waiters seemed like they really knew what was in the food, a lot of “ummm” and “aaa”, maybe because of the language barrier, but still.

Been here twice before, first for just drinks and the second time for food. Most recently, got food and drinks and it was just as incredible as I remember. The macaroons were delicious, the Seabass delectable, and flat iron steak out of this world. So glad they’re recognized by Michelin and can’t wait to return!

My personal favorite was the mackerel. The wine list could use a little work, but nothing was offensive. The atmosphere could also be a bit more gezellig. Regardless, this is definitely one of the best restaurants in Nijmegen. Note: I tried to take my father here the following week and the host was extremely rude and unhelpful. Hopefully someone was just having a bad day.
