A star in Melbourne. From the moment we walked in we felt a warm welcome. Though booked it was very easy to change and choose our seating and just felt welcome and immersed in a real French 🇫🇷 experience. A stand out was the service.. everything flowed impeccably, from the decanter of the wine to the spacing of the meals .. and the mains were to die for… honestly the best beef (cheek) bourguignon I have ever tasted and the Bordelaise Sauce on the eye fillet was sensational. Upon settling the bill there was no pressure for a tip though it was gladly given.. 10/10

Love this restaurant. Amazingly good food & wine - great staff. Our waiter , Max, was so lovely. The Eye fillet steak is just unbelievably perfect! Cooked to perfection 😘

Stunning place next to a theater (you will pass by when you use the bathroom on the 2F), interior very French, dark wood, soft lighting, look at the ceiling and a vintage huge poster in the dining room! Foods selection is good!

Bistrot d’Orsay is a study in enduring French bistro tradition, executed with quiet confidence. The room, dark timber, mosaic floors, and soft lighting sets the tone: classic, assured, and gently romantic. The menu resists trends, instead perfecting staples. Duck à l’orange arrives crisp-skinned and lacquered in a citrus sauce that’s neither cloying nor timid. Escargots, bubbling in garlic and parsley butter, deliver pure indulgence. Onion soup is textbook: deeply caramelised, rich with stock, and capped with a golden, blistered crust of gruyère. Service is polished but unobtrusive, and the cellar favours French varietals with just enough breadth. Bistrot d’Orsay isn’t chasing headlines, it’s simply doing things properly.

Google
A great French restaurant. Must book as it's a very small restaurant that fills up quickly. Food is amazing and cannot be faulted at all. Highly recommend this restaurant for a Romantic dinner for two.

Yelp
Bistrot d'Orsay is a cozy French bistro feel likely cherished by theatre patrons given its location. You can find a half a chicken and steak with frites. I ordered the schnitzel which was ok. Service was friendly. If you are a fan of the French bistro restaurant then this would appeal to you. Certainly it is handsomely designed and appears to have loyal followers, but I would rate the food more average.

Yelp
On Collins Street it is hard to choose a place for lunch or dinner with the extensive list of bars, cafes and restaurants. Bistrot d'Orsay sits next to the Athenaeum Theatre and is well worth stopping at for lunch or dinner. From the moment you enter the restaurant, to the point when you haul yourself to your feet after eating beautiful European cuisine, the staff are fabulous. Friendly and confident they look after your experience without hovering and intruding on your experience. The restaurant favours a mix of French and Mediterranean flavours. Smooth crème brûlée and fresh pasta make it the perfect destination for a filling and enjoyable meal. The last time I went I had bouillabaisse and twice cooked duck leg with sweet potato and celeriac puree, sautéed silverbeet and roasted pear jus. Both were exceptional. Like all classic bistros there is a set lunch menu available: 2 courses and a glass of premium wine for only $35 dollars. Great value for money for a lunch meeting or date, the set menu boasts some wonderful dishes like a classic French onion soup, and orecchiette with asparagus, pea, ricotta and mint. Bistrot D'Orsay delivers on many levels and has all the necessary parts to make a fabulous restaurant and a satisfying meal.

Yelp
Okay, so Bistrot D'Orsay is the kind of place your nanna will love. She will strain through her glasses to admire the painted trompe l'oeil ceilings and be chuffed that it's just a few short steps away from the Athenaeum Theatre, and across the street from the Regent Theatre, so she won't be late to her Tuesday matinee. But there's a lot for the non-nanna to like about Bistrot D'Orsay, too. Namely, the best crème brulee in Melbourne. I've been stopping by D'Orsay for a late night coffee and dessert for years now, and the crème brulee has never failed me. It's light, creamy and sweet, and takes just one firm sharp tap to crack the top. Oh how I love the sound of the brulee breaking! If you fancy a whole meal at D'Orsay you'll find the mains as equally delicious. The French/Italian menu has all the classics that both you and nanna will love - boeuf bourgiugnon, seafood linguini and a juicy lamb shoulder to name a few, and the execution is always perfect. At lunchtime D'Orsay features a set menu of two courses and a glass of wine for $85, however if you do the math it's not the best bang for your buck. I say go the a la carte, and skip the entrée in favour of dessert.

Yelp
This is a lovely place to have a quick wine before a bit of comedy or theatre. It is off to the side of the Athenaeum theatre and very convenient for pre show drinks. The interior is warm and inviting and has an upmarket feeling. We enjoyed a lovely red and white wine both at $11 a glass and sat in window on stools people watching as the comedy crowds went past. I will come back again to try some food that I saw streaming from the kitchen at the back.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. I can't fault this place in any way. Incredible food, amazing wines and beautiful service. Just a gem. Wonderful old world European vibe. Will come back when in Australia again!

Yelp
C'est magnifique! Goat's cheese soufflé, crumbed calamari followed by seafood bouillabaisse and eye fillet, finished off with the pear tartine and almond ice cream ( an absolute must). All this complimented by a beautiful wine selection from a comprehensive list. I can't fault the service - friendly, polite and attentive, and the atmosphere took me back to the restaurants tucked away in the back streets behind Luxembourg Gardens, Paris. Bistro D'orsay is also over the road from the bright lights of the theatre on Collins st which gives it an added Moulin Rouge touch. This was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. Do yourself a favour and go.

Yelp
I like going to a French restaurant alone, ordering a plate of dessert and a cup of coffee/tea. I had Frangipane today!! It was sweet and tasty:)

Yelp
staying across the road at Westin Melb. Dinner time with colleagues. We all ordered mains. Food came quickly. Slow braised beef cheeks were hearty and satisfying. Price in low $30s. Colleagues had gnocchi and sea food stew. Enjoyed the Parisian atmosphere. Parking may be difficult to come by if not staying or working around the area.

Yelp
Great Location and indoor decorations. The menu includes a wide variety of selections. I tried the traditional Bouillabaisse which was really good, fresh, and tasty. The service was excellent too. Overall, it was a great experience though i won't be considering going back soon for lunch.

Yelp
Better places to grab a drink in Melbourne but location is perfect for a quick drink before going next door to the athenaeum theatre. They have a pretty good wine list and drinks- the food looks pretty good too if your getting pre show tummy rumbles. Small table seating, some inside and Some at the bar so don't bring a huge group because you won't fit. Not the cheapest place to get a drink but cute cost and frenchy.

Yelp
This place looks the part like something off a Parisian sidestreet. The express lunch is good value at $35, although nothing outstanding. The duck confit was quite nice although could have used a sauce for the duck, the bean and vegetable base was original and different but again not outstanding. The beef was excellent but at $41.50 was a small portion. We also tried the creme brulee and the orange and walnut cake - again nothing outstanding especially considering the price. Would rather go to PM24 or France Soir - same prices and better food.

Yelp
The atmosphere of this place was absolutely amazing. All of the staff give off a fantastic vibe and were diligent throughout the entire evening. They made sure our order went through quickly as we were booked in for a show at the regent theatre. Even though it was a quaint menu, it did offer great variety. I had the goats cheese soufflé as an entrée which was spectacular I must say. As a main I had the duck which was beautiful and cooked perfect. The only disappointment of the evening was the desert. I had the pear tartan which was just a touch too sweet. The person I was with ordered a pineapple dish which was covered in extremely bitter sherbet which ruined the dish. Otherwise the night was fantastic I must say. I will be back next time I'm in Melbourne.
