"This restaurant is well known in the local area for its simple yet gourmet Lyonnaise specialities: rosette sausage, hot saucisson, pike quenelles, etc. The Farina family's culinary skill is demonstrated on a daily basis, to a backdrop of attractive old-fashioned decor." - Michelin Inspector

I had a solo lunch here last week to taste the food. It was very, very good. Now I know where I will have a good pan-fried foie gras in Geneva ! Main course were scallops with artichokes which were very nicely done. I didn't have dessert because I was full already. The service was very warm, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was of old style French brasserie (they serve home cooking Lyonnaise food), very lively and pleasant during the day. Prices were reasonable given the food portion and quality of cooking and produce. I don't eat beef so I don't know whether their steaks would be good but considering the dishes I have tried, I am sure they would be good. This is going to be one of my favorite restaurants in Geneva from now on. It's unfortunate that I haven't found it earlier. One down side - they are not open on the weekends at all. Highly recommended for French, European food in a relaxing (not posh) vibe.

Been wanting to try this place for a long time. The asparagus soup was buttery and flavorful. The entrecote steak was tender and flavorful. Even the selection of bread they provided before the meal was really good. Service was good. However, when they were so busy with guests, it took a while to get the cheque.

A classic brasserie with a gorgeous ambience, lovely friendly service and exceptional food. The entrecote with fritte and pepper sauce was very good quality but the medallions of boeuf were even better so thank you to my wife for sharing! Starters and desserts were very generous servings and great quality. I can only highly recommend this delightful restaurant 😀

Came with some colleagues for dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was busy but had a wonderful ambiance! Service was excellent: attentive, quick and with a wry smile - reminded me of a friendly rural restaurant. Food is lyonnaise and excellent but good value. Booking essential judging by how busy it was on an early weekday.

A very typical brasserie in the heart of Geneva with excellent food and very, very friendly & professional service. The menu shows exactly what you expect from a traditional restaurant and all the atmosphere is authentic. Merci beaucoup & we will back for sure. And this time it will be sooner, as there’s hopefully no more virus involved. 🇨🇭😋

This place was AWESOME! We had a wonderful dinner here - enjoyed a great steak, delicious escargot, tasty homemade French onion soup and the wines to pair! Staff was so fun and made it a very pleasant date night! Google
A bustling lyonnaise style bistrot in the Pâquis area of Geneva. The decorations and tables were all in the classic style. The service was very welcoming and quick. If you are into steak, this is the place, go no further. From sirloin to fillet steak (Tournedos) and their famous beef wellington (call in advance for it), all are cooked to perfection. They have very good dishes of the day, but for this review, I stuck with the main menu. I had a terrine stuffed with morilles mushrooms to start off, followed by the Tournedos Rossini which comes with an indulgent pan-seared piece of foie gras and dauphinois potatoes as side. The accompanying sauce is both rich and luscious. I finished off with the desert of the day which consisted of a tasty chocolate and carmel tarte. All in all, I would highly recommend visiting this establishment with friends, family, business or even on your own. It is well worth the experience.

Yelp
One of our best dinners ever! The restaurant is small and cozy. The server was friendly and helpful. The food was outstandingly delicious. One of our favorites was beef with a foie gras top. We were really too full for dessert, but had to order when we saw them at a neighboring table. I especially loved the Floating Island! It's the first time I've had one in many years.

Yelp
Terrific restaurant. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Incredible wait staff , especially the hostess who couldn't be more helpful. Excellent presentation. More than adequate wine suggestions.

Yelp
Wandering in Geneva, I was able to get a walk-in for one on a Thursday evening. My lucky day. My martini order was perhaps overly particular, with the waiter retorting "we're not a New York City cocktail bar". After some discussion he said they'd give a try and the result was a terrific dry martini using a Swiss gin. A great start. The prix fixe was a score, I chose the well crafted salad and beef medallions, and added a glass of pinot. The desert was unecessary - I intially declined - but the oversize chocolate mousse won out. The waiter checked in many times throughout the meal. Not obtrusive, but friendly chats that are nice when dining alone. A wonderful guy. Laid back, friendly and delicious. I highly recommend.

Yelp
For our last evenings in Geneva, I craved a steak, preference French. How could I miss with a restaurant called "Red Beef Bistro"? He was booked that night and he would have to get back to me for the next night (my last!) The best things happen when it is unexpected. I stopped by at the end of their lunch service and he apologized for not getting back to me yet, but YES, we could come early that evening. BTW, at 15:00, there was not an empty seat. The bistro is a "Lyonnaise" restaurant, family owned for 34 years. Chalked up on the board was the statement "La Chasse!" (The Hunt!) In addition to the usual offerings was a full panoply of wild game: pheasant, venison, wild boar and more. What a wonderful meal we had, these fresh, wild meats prepared and served so beautiful and tasty. Service was impeccable and everything was priced so fairly. The kindness of the staff, not just to us, but to the numerous walk-ins and phone requests for a table we're so apologetic and gracious having to say "non désolé". This was our favorite meal of our holiday, which included quite a few Michelin ** meals. I'll have a steak when I get back to Los Angeles.

Yelp
Excellent service, food and drinks! The avocado appetizer was fantastic. We also loved the chateaubriande. For context, I'm Australian (mainly) and American and loved this place :)

Yelp
It's pretty pricey but worth it because the food was amazing and the portion was generous enough that it won't leave you hungry. We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation but since it was before dinner rush, we were seated right away with our choice of table (we picked outside). I ordered the beef steak which was mouth-watering tender and juicy, while my husband enjoyed the lobster souffle (it was one of their daily specials). The service was welcoming and helpful, which made our experience even more enjoyable.

Yelp
This bistro lived up to the hype. Delicious food, superb service disguised as if you were family, and delightful atmosphere. We had the wild boar filled with autumnal fruit delicacies and a great Bordeaux. Can not go wrong.

Yelp
If you are in Geneva, this is a MUST! Make a reservation... We saw folks turned away and we were there on a Monday night at 7:30pm. The service is excellent and the food is great. It was a cozy bistro with a great selection of food and drink. I got a local Gamay and Hubby got a local beer. Both were a great start to our meals. We each got a salad. I found out later I could have gotten a half order. I should have done that. The Lyonnaise salad was delicious... and a very large portion. The egg was cooked perfectly. For entrees, Hubby got the local perch and I got a local pike in a souffle. Mine was very decadent swimming in a buttery lobster sauce. Hubby's dish was delicious as well. The perch was shown to us in it's cooking pan, and then they lovingly served it on the plate. Fresh, buttery, delish! We were too full for dessert... so we walked back to our hotel's bar (The Leopard Room) for an after dinner drink. I would go back here again whenever I am in town.

Yelp
Great little bistro for cozy French food. Owner was there and served us! All the food is simple delicious and homey

Yelp
Piggy-backing off of Schahram's review below, the food was good on my end as well. I had the tajine de poulet, which had a nice flavorful broth, generous portions of potato, and chicken that fell easily off of the bone. No complaints here. Mine was even presented nicely. :-) It did have that distinct French bistro feel. It seemed like a nice place to have a casual business lunch, as long as you weren't sharing trade secrets or something as the tables were very close together. Service was fine, but may have gotten marginally better with the arrival of the French speaker in our party. Overall, definitely one of the better places I've been in Geneva, and while the rest of the menu isn't cheap, CHF19 for the plat du jour is a deal. **As I was waiting, the table next to me ordered what must have been the "carre d'agneau au gross sel" (rack of lamb with a lot of salt?). It looked a bit ridiculous, like a rack of lamb had been swallowed in an avalanche, but the lamb looked amazingly succulent once it was carved and placed on a dish.

Yelp
Absolutely avoid at all cost if you don't speak French. Restaurant seemed great so I walked about a mile from hotel to go only to not be seated in am empty restaurant . Surprisingly this only came about after I asked in English if there where any specials. All of a sudden they remembered I needed a reservation. Out of about 16 tables only 3 where occupied.

Dale C.

Yelp
Very friendly service and delicious food. We had the steak with fois gras and sirloin steak with bone marrow. I would have happily ordered and munched anything on the menu though. Highly recommended! Book in advance to avoid disappointment. I'll be coming back here next time I am in Geneva!

Yelp
Amazing food and even more amazing service! I had the fish souffle and the smoked salmon salad, simply wonderful! Waiters were funny and very friendly. Perfect dinner service. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Really the best steak I had in Switzerland. The waitress was so sweet and the portion were just right. Also restaurant was conveniently located across our hotel Eastwest in Geneva.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant but MAKE A RESERVATION if you are going for dinner I felt my fellow yelpers failed me when we showed up to this restaurant and were turned away because we didnt have a reservation. Nobody mentioned this on their reviews. We tried the next day, callling 8 hours ahead, and still no. So do it at least 24 hours in advanced. As we all know, Its hard to plan ahead when you are doing touristy things all day and dinner can be a spur of the moment thing. Another point is the restaurant is located in what looks to be the Red Light district of Geneva. A little seedy at night time, but pretty safe, just ignore the hookers on your way there and you'll be fine. This is an authentic place to go specially if you are looking to get away from the tourists traps surrounding the Cornavin area. Enjoy!

Yelp
I went to Bistrot du Boeuf Rouge with another Yelper, Yujin, today for lunch. I found this place online as one of the top restaurant in Geneva. The food was alright on my end, I had a Beef Steak with some Café Paris and some Rösti (Hash-brown for Americans). Atmosphere 5/5: I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It looked exactly like one of those french Bistrot you can find in France. Great atmosphere, small dining room and still a family run business for 21 years now. Food 3/5: A lot of different menus and choices but as I said earlier, I chose a medium-rare Beef Steak which was perfect because it was tender enough and not too chewy. The rösti is excellent but the plate looked kinda empty. Maybe the presentation of the food could have looked a little better. The Beef Steak was part of the Plat du Jour and was 19 CHF. A good price including a side salad and homemade dressing sauce. Service 4/5: Service was ALMOST perfect should I say with a waitress that really helped us throughout the different options for the day, some recommendation and stopped at couple times to make sure everything was alright. We just had to wait a little bit to pay at the end. I want to come back to try the Chateaubriand (min 2 persons) next time which is the signature dish at this location. Good food for the price. NB: Parking is really difficult for Lunch but Parking Les Alpes is couple blocks away (5min walk) from the restaurant.

Yelp
I wish they could be rated more thank five stars. The Steak I had was out of this work. I was stuffed after a few bites but could not stop. The waitress was so pleasant and she made a great recommendation on what to order. She was spot on and I wish I would have stopped here a lot sooner.

Yelp
Excelent! Really good service and the food is delicious you have to reserve a table because it is always crowded, but it is worth it

Yelp
It's funny that although the name of the restaurant would indicate their speciality is red meat, the best meal of the night was my wife's perch. Even a few days later, she is still talking about it. I ordered the beef tenderloin which was very good and cooked perfectly, however I sometimes forget that for the most part in Europe, adding salt and pepper or any seasoning to steak during cooking just doesnt happen and really comes across when eating. I added the table salt and pepper, however its not the same as the nice chunky salt and pepper you would receive at a traditional steakhouse. With all this being said the quality of food was good, the prices were fair for Geneva and the service was very good and attentive despite every table being full. I would recommend making reservations, as this establishment does mean it when they tell you that the tables are reserved. When we arrived there was only one table taken and we rolled our eyes when they said there were only 2 tables available. Within 20 minutes, every table was full.

Yelp
Best meals in Geneva - and I had two here. Steak, tripe, pike, perch - spectacular. Pork, duck pate. And possibly the friendliest staff. Go here!

Cyrus G.

Yelp
Truly superb food, efficient and friendly service. The menu is large for a bistro, with many daily specials. Lyonnaise dishes are distinctive and hearty, and here they are done so very well. Highly recommended.

Mike S.

Yelp
My wife & I had the best Chateaubriand (with bearnaise sauce) in the world here. Melt in your mouth incredible dish. Great, bustling atmosphere for dinner. Cozy space, incredible service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I had the fortune to be taken here for a business dinner. It is what is says on the tin - a french style bistro. It specialises in grilled meats and serves them tender, medium and coated in lovely sauce. Service with potato dauphinoise, ratatouille and some peas and carrots, this was a wonderful traditional meal. Probably the best I've had in Geneva. For pudding I had creme caramel which was delicious! The service was good, by typical old french style 'patron' and the atmosphere was great, very francophone. I would heartily recommend it, although it was quite pricy (by my Swindon UK standards!) - 36chf for the lamb I had and 45chf for the steak of my colleague, plus 10chf each for pudding, 8chf for salad starters.

Yelp
Ask for a place, not available but still many table empty? Ask if need reservation, do not answer. Lousy service, stay away this restaurant if you are not white. What a shame!

Adam C.

Yelp
Rillets de porc and then grilled veal. Accompanied by two glasses of Swiss wine. Everything was excellent and the service was charming. Highly recommended.

Kent F.

Yelp
All the reviews below were spot on. This is a great find... excellent food presented beautifully in a classic French Bistro setting. The Beef Tartar appetizer was ridiculously amazing. Tajine de Poulet - tender, flavorful, and delicious. Although we are American, our server was gracious and warm. My only regret was that I did not have enough room for desert!

T Z.

Yelp
Good food, great service, been here twice for business...will be back again! Wine list is fantastic...pick one can't go wrong.

Yelp
Came across this place in Jan 2012 whilst trying to find 'just the right place' for lunch with friends on their first visit to Geneva. We got the last table and were a little concerned that it was a tight squeeze and right next to the toilets... But the atmosphere and buzz made it seem worth risking. No regrets at all - neither posed any issue and were outweighed by the food, service & ambience. Clearly, proudly Suisse, this restaurant exceeded our expectations. Unfortunately I don't remember what we ate - but I blame that on the aperitifs and good wine that we sank during a 3 course lunch. Now we've located it again on Yelp, it's top of our 'to return to' list. Returned again Jan 2013 only to find that this wasn't the restaurant we'd loved & raved about! Walk 100 metres down the road to discover the fabulous L'Entrecote Couronnee! As good in 2013 as in 2012.
