After having been recommended a visit to Bistrot Mi'ro by several people, I now understand why.
It's a fairly small restaurant (about 11 tables) in Borgerhout, next to the Town Hall and its recently repaved square. Everything on the menu is in a way familiar, but altered to such an extent you can't help but wonder how it'll be prepared and served. Envious and curious glances to other people's plates are a common sight. The appetizers all have a southern-European vibe to them, and I highly recommend the arancini and bikini.
As far as the menu goes, if there's four of you, you'd be able to try everything. Sadly there were only two of us, but I can attest for the exquisite plates we had. The iberico croquettes were very reminiscent of trips to Spain, but better. The coquilles perfectly prepared. The vol-au-vent simply delightful (and the side of fries a pleasant surprise). A roulade of poulet-noir on a savoy puree had me almost clean the plate by hand and face. As you can see the courses sound familiar and 'easy' in a way, but rest assured, you will still be surprised.
As for the wines: the wine menu is varied, so it's hard to go wrong. The desserts were highly enjoyable too. Definitely coming back here in the next few months.
