Where to Eat Barbecue in Ann Arbor - Eater Detroit

"Beer and barbecue go well together and downtown Ypsilanti’s Red Rock has wide varieties of both. The menu features dozens of sandwiches and entrees and over 35 craft beers and ciders on tap and in bottles. The burnt ends, tips of brisket smoked twice and topped with jalapeños, are a terrific way to start a meal." - John Reyes

The Boulder sandwich was very good. I opted to add pimento cheese. I do feel for the price however, it should come with fries, or a side. I tried the original bbq sauce and the South Carolina sauce, both were good. The service was good. I wouldn’t normally get a burger at a barbecue place, but I might try the smash burger next time. Would recommend.

We were so happy to see this place reopen. We desperately wanted to love it, but just couldn't. The service was poor. The brisket and pulled pork were great. The ribs were just ok. The "Garbage Fries" were fantastic. They were the best part of the meal although a bit over priced for how small the portion was. The BBQ sauces were lacking. The $4 for a can of coke was ridiculous. They charge what most other BBQ places charge but they don't give you any sides with it. We will wait a few months and give it another try. Hopefully our results will be better.

Red Rock was AMAZING! I'm from NC and this was the best BBQ that I've had this far north! The brisket burnt ends were so good, they didn't need sauce. Speaking of sauces... The Carolina and South Carolina sauces were on point with authentic flavor of the regions. My personal favorite was the Sweet Hot sauce, it was the perfect balance of heat to sweet. We got the brussel sprouts and Mac and Cheese and both were out of this world! The M&C especially! It was awesome! Served in small cask iron skillets. Saved the best for last... The smoked wings were THE BEST! I am super picky about my wings and these were the most crispy smoked wings I've ever had! Amazing!

Very nice upscale BBQ establishment. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. We ordered lots of different choices and shared with one another. Everything was very tasty and I was very pleased with the Mac and cheese, I saw it was on the menu as a stand alone meal and they pulled it off. The prices didn't break the bank either. Ribs, brisket and pulled pork were all nicely done....I'm coming back to try the chicken!!

Great staff. The burnt ends were good, but the portion was very small for nearly $11. Cornbread muffins were excellent! Mac and cheese is not what it used to be (this style is served everywhere) which is what made Red Rock unique is now gone. Bummer, going to westside from now on. 😪 Update: The Mac and cheese is back!

We had the Yipsi pulled chicken sandwich. Our waitress Jo was very accommodating when we asked to share it. She had the chef cut it in half- each half on a separate tray. And our cross cut waffle fries in a basket and just enough coleslaw to accent the meal rather than overwhelm. There were several BBQ sauces to try- all of them were good. Now for the reason for sharing the sandwich.... Cheesecake! I had the Turtle and my BF had the Blueberry both were very tasty and we were comfortably full. Jo was excellent- welcoming -efficient- suggested that we would like the cheesecake and she was right!

Red Rock is my favorite restaurant in Ypsilanti. I can't think of a single thing they could improve on. I love the brick, the beautiful bar, the great whiskey selection, the service, and the food. They have burnt ends! The delicious, fatty and crispy end pieces of a beautiful brisket. They also have the best Brussels sprouts I have ever had, they are made with a bacon sauce and Parmesan cheese. The service is great and so are the happy hour prices.

It's back to Red Rock (from Bitter truth) same owner. Very fair main menu prices but I'm a happy hour person. If you want a relaxed comfortable place for happy hour, this is it. The Garbage Fries are amazing. $9 cocktail are great too. Happy hour is everyday 3-6 plus a night happy hour Friday and Saturday after 9.
