"Bix is an old-school restaurant where you wouldn’t bat an eye if you saw Francis Ford Coppola talking through movie scripts with his team, and a couple in mink coats signing divorce papers. There’s live jazz every night. Ordering a martini is a requirement. And even though the food at Bix can only very loosely be described as “good,” we love this classic institution dearly. What the swanky two-story American spot in Jackson Square lacks in mind-blowing food it makes up for a hundred times over in character. The Art Deco-style dining room is like time-traveling to a 1930s supper club, even though Bix only opened in 1988. Waitstaff in buttoned-up vests will drop off free bread rolls with the flourish of John Turturro in Mr. Deeds, and sneak you an order of succotash on the house. The piano and cello duo is set up under a large painting of a lovestruck butler (the very same one that inspired this David Arquette short film). And there’s a mural of a lively dance floor that spans the length of the bar, which is more stocked than a fraternity house basement. Slide into a seat to admire the martini glasses chilling atop a huge mound of shaved ice, or mysteriously sip on a negroni like a disgraced heir plotting an elaborate jewelry heist. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Like we said, the decidedly solid food is not the reason you eat at Bix. The caesar comes out soggy, and the shrimp cocktail is more or less forgettable. Heartier mains, like a grilled pork chop and seared duck breast with summer squash, are decent, although nothing to write home about. But somehow, we don’t mind. We don’t come to Bix for a perfectly cooked burger or the best steak tartare in the city. We come to soak in the white tablecloth vibes, drink boulevardiers in a ridiculous and lovable space, and romanticize life while a cellist in a tie serenades us. On all those fronts, Bix delivers. Food Rundown Caesar We’re sorry to report that this caesar is soggy. But enough jazz and strong martinis will make anything taste better. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Classic Shrimp Cocktail Exactly what you’d expect from a shrimp cocktail. Nothing more, nothing less. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Black Truffle Cheese Burger We’re not sure exactly what compelled Bix to serve this burger open-faced, with only one side of crustless seeded wheat bread and a slab of grilled onion on top. But the confusing dish at least makes for pretty good table conversation as you try to figure it out. The patty has a weirdly gummy consistency. You can skip this. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Grilled Duroc Pork Chop The slightest bit dry, but one of the better entrée options on the menu. What tops it changes seasonally, so you might get nectarine chunks one night and slow-roasted tomatoes the next." - Julia Chen

Since things apparently have changed at this location; I thought I better put a review of how things actually work here in practice for check-in. The only receiving doors are docks 22, 23, and 24. You go to door B, put your paperwork in the nearest slot to the top (from the top down it's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8). Sign the driver check in; go back to your truck and wait in line for one of the docks to open up. Once you see one of the above mentioned doors open up, (and your next in line), open your doors and back into the dock; then once you're all backed in, run back into the office sign your paperwork with your name and phone number, as well as the dock door that you're backed into, and make a notation of the dock door on the driver sign in, go back to your truck and wait to be unloaded. Presently, I'm waiting in line, but I'm told they will bring the paperwork out once they are done unloading you.

There rudeness and bitterness and harassment. The produce team loves to judge instead of working. Dont work here. Had to quit because its effecting my mental health.

I don't post a lot of work stuff, but I have to say that generally speaking working with food vendors is a royal pain! However, there is a major exception and that is Bix Produce. They are AMAZING!!! Every restaurant that has them gets a representative that is assigned to help them, like a personal concierge. Those people seem to be extraordinarily gifted at customer service and have a knack for overall likability. The lady at my last restaurant (Michelle) was nothing short of extraordinary. The gentleman that is now my representative (Doug) in my new position showed up to introduce himself before we had even opened our doors for customers. Since then he has helped me out a few times as I have learned to navigate an ordering system that is quite different than what I was used to before and been so pleasant every step of the way. They have also been extremely responsive and proactive with any issues that have arisen with orders. On more than one occasion I have gotten text messages from my representative telling me that something was missing on my order before I had even had a chance to check for myself. Usually they would start by apologizing and saying that if we needed it that day they would have it out on a truck as soon as possible. If we didn't need it that day we were able to just order it for the next day and they would give us a credit back. Honestly, there is no company that I would recommend more highly for anyone going into any type of professional food service that requires any sort of produce.

I deliver and pick up here every day. The staff is friendly and professional. The door to the receiving department is at the far end of the dock, past the garbage compactor. Sign in, leave your bills and wait for a phone call or someone to come out to your truck and direct you to a door. There is a button for a buzzer, I tap it once to let them know I'm there, don't expect them to come running though, they're probably working on another load. Turn around time for an OTR is about 2 hours. Timing depends on how many trucks show up before you. Make sure you chock your tires. They focus on this, rightly so as they don't have dock locks. Stay safe, drivers! Edit: the current location is in Little Canada( since fall of 2020), much better parking situation than the previous location on La'Orient Street in St Paul. Edit#2: dock locks being installed on some doors. Still using some chocks though.
