Where to Pick U-Pick Apples at Farms and Apple Orchards in the North Georgia Mountains - Eater Atlanta

"Less than two hours from Atlanta, the apples at Reece Family Orchards are crisp and ready for picking. With over 20 different varieties ripening during September and October, there are always apples to pick throughout the fall. Grab a few bags to load up on U-pick apples in the orchard. Weekend trips to the farm include activities like milking cows, a petting zoo, shooting apples from an apple cannon, and even pig races. Check out the U-pick schedule and calendar of apples available in the orchards." - Robbie Medwed

This place is superb. Their apples are delicious. I would recommend this place for a weekend family trip. They have many varieties of apples to suit your tastes and needs. Ample parking, restrooms and diner, a shop full of fresh produce, snacks and drinks, other entertainment activities as well regardless of age group are among the things to expect here. You need to buy a ticket depending on weekend or week days you are visiting. And then again tickets prices are based on the activities you want to do. Their petting farm was the best thing that caught my interest. Also on that particular day there was a nice antique car show too. It was free 😊

Google
Had the best time at this farm! They have a petting zoo with lots of animals and various activities for kids. We enjoyed picking apples for the first time and would definitely come back. There is even a apple market with much more than apples! Try the apple fritters, they're delicious!

Google
Kind of confusing but an enjoyable experience! First time apple picker here so we naturally pulled into the parking area. Walked in, loads of people there, was going to get into a line to ask about the apple picking and noticed the sample lady was much more accessible to speak to. So I enjoyed a few samples and asked how to picked and she directed me to go across the street and would be able to be taken care of there. Now granted she did say if I wanted to do the extras like the kid activities I'd have to go ahead and pay for that in the main building I was in with a cashier. I didn't need that, so I crossed the street hike up the hill, being from Florida I'm not used to incline walking lol, so I get to the top, winded, and see a small register set up under an open barn type cover. Bag sizes and amount were listed and I opted for the $20 bag, way more than I needed and should have gotten the $10 bag, live and learn. The young lady at the register also informed me of an $8 admission charge that came with a paper bracelet. Paid a total of $28 and change to start my first apple picking experience and I'd do it again. All the gala apples were picked, but there were plenty of other apples and I filled my bag. They have an interactive map you can scan in near the register that shows you where you are on the map and what apples are in the orchard. After picking my fill I went back across the street to unload my apple in the car and walked back into the main building. I wasn't going to leave without trying the apple cider (YUMMY!), an apple cider donut (small but good), and a fried apple fritter (not overly sweet, and I enjoyed it the most). I will definitely need to come back next season, but will remember to go ahead and park across the street. Fun for the whole family.

Google
On our way to the Bigfoot Museum, I saw some road signs/mini-billboards advertising hard cider. That just happens to be a gluten-free free alternative for me, so we decided to stop in. We were hungry and hoping for lunch and a beverage of the adult nature. The place has picnic tables, but they do not serve food. You are welcome to bring your own, though, and enjoy live music and their cider. The lady assisting us was super nice, and even let me try a taste of the apple pie hard cider. Some may have come home with us.

Google
What a fantastic experience! We spent several hours exploring and picking from a surprising variety of apples—I had no idea there were so many kinds to choose from. The orchard was expansive, with an abundance of apples to pick throughout. A tractor ride took us right into the fields, adding a fun touch to the day. There was also a market with even more apples, delicious desserts, and other unique items. It was a perfect way to spend quality time with friends and family!

Google
We came with the wildwood group & we all had the most wonderful morning. Sam was our activity guide & she was so incredible with the kids. We loved exploring the orchards, the petting zoo, and the playground areas. After our tour we visited the shop and came home with a car full of delicious treats. I highly recommend the whole experience & we are coming back next year!

Google
We always come here to buy Apple seconds for canning and cabbages etc in October/November. The fried pie prices were killer this year at $4 a pie so that was a bummer even with inflation all around. Always better to come on a weekday or early morning if you want to beat the crowd. It’s a madhouse in there midday.

Google
BJReece Orchards is a fun filled experience for the whole family. Apart from Apple picking, the place has lot of other events kids love and learn, Farm tubing, Patting zoo, pig race, and wagon ride are fun for even adults. We picked Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp and Rome Beauty. The prices are on little higher side $13 per person and bag starting from $10 for mini bag (12-13 apples). Plenty of parking, and sitting spaces. Overall, must visit once.

Yelp
First time. Voodoo food truck lobster roll, coleslaw, chips for $29 pricey to me, but unique dressing was impressive. Unsure where storefront is. Growlers first time filled pricey, $15 refills. Pretty tree and bar area/tables for inside seating.

Yelp
My friend and I were out in the area and tried this place out. They have plenty of parking and they have food trucks in case you want some food. They have set flights you pick from for your tasting. I wish you could mix and match. The cider was good. You can buy most of them in a growler I wish more came in cans. Overall good cider and location.

Yelp
My family & I make it a thing to attempt to visit each orchard in north Georgia. This orchard holds a special spot because they are dog friendly. We love bringing our dogs here for a walk in the orchard. We buy a bag for apply picking but the true joy is seeing our dogs have fun exploring nature with us. When it comes to the bakery section of the orchard there are good & bad things. First the good: they are super organized. Much like Chick-fil-A they had people taking orders while you waited in line so that you took your "order number" and picked up your food when you paid. It went so much faster. Secondly, they have an open kitchen so you can actually see them cook and bake the food. Now for the not so good: the fried apple pie was almost inedible. I wish I had seen them unwrapped before I bought 6. They were so greasy and soggy crust. The apple filling almost tasted like fermented apples or alcoholic in a way. The crust was very salty, crumbly, and tasted like maybe it was fried in grease that was used for meat. I'm wondering if the oil was too cold or the pot was overcrowded during cooking. The 5 apple fritters weren't fully cooked and didn't have apples in them. Just a couple of shreds that might have been apple? That being said, the apples themselves, the atmosphere and the fact that they are dog friendly will keep us coming back. We will just skip the bakery and stick to the fruit and vegetables.

Yelp
This place is truly amazing. I'll first talk about how the apple orchard is very organized, and there is clear signage to help you figure out what to do. They even tell you which apples are ready to be picked and eaten. There are also signs that clearly mark which apples are aware. If you go during the weekday, some of the attractions aren't open because they don't have the staff to do everything. But on the weekends, it is both more crowded, but there are more things to do. I would probably suggest going on the weekends if you wanted to the full experience, but if you just go up to pick apples and shop in their gift shop, you should probably go on the weekdays because There were barely any people here. Every staff member is very nice. They would answer all of our questions and made sure that we knew exactly what we were getting into. The gift shop was equally as amazing and I ended up purchasing some jams as well as some pastries. I can't stay away from a sweet treat The environment was very nice and very scenic. I really enjoyed my time. This is very much a fall activity for me, so maybe I'll go back sometime later in the year but probably will just make this a yearly tradition.

Yelp
Can't wait to come back next year! I am currently coring my apples for pie. My fav is the apple cider peach Slushie. If you have time get some live music and cider across the street. We also took home another 6 pack of cider so we can have some all fall. A fun weekend outing!

Yelp
This apple orchard pales in size to its more famous sister down the road, Mercier Orchards but I found its wares more delicious and appealing. Their hard cider is less sweet and the sweet potato and pecan hand pies were delicious. I also bought a glass jar of cider and peach jalapeño jelly that was delectable. Use your debit card or bring cash to avoid paying credit card fees.

Yelp
We decided to come here to do some apple picking because I've never done that. I heard Crimson Crisp was delicious, so I decided to pick those! It was packed today!! So I couldn't really enjoy much besides the apple picking. There's tons and tons of acreage of different types of apples. I will say, as fun as dressing up for fall to take some photos sounds, you really do get a workout in if you go down further to where the crimson crisp apples were. So I would advise dressing appropriately. Almost as if you're going to hike. I wish I could have gone in the market! I opened the door and it was packed to the point that people could barely move so I said no thanks. It was nice but a bit overwhelming.

Yelp
Absolutely love B.J. Reece's orchard and farm stand. The entire family has fun here. Picking apples in the orchard, with different fun activities (corn bath, apple cannon, petting zoo to name a few), the farm stand has apples for those that don't want to pick themselves, and produce products from jams to pickled veggies, and everything in between. Apple pies, fritters, donuts, ciders, the works! We come every year from coastal Georgia
google avatar

Yelp
We've been coming here for 3 years and I love it. All sorts of delicious apples. Plenty of side activities. Milk the cow, go in the petting zoo, watch the pig races, go on a wagon ride. There's stuff for everyone!!!! The retail store has great fresh veggies, jams, sauces, ciders, donuts and amazing fried pies.

Yelp
Love the market here! Variety of apples, honey, produce, baked goods, and etc! Upset that it took this long to go to an Orchard as I thought I would be chased by bees so missed out until now though we haven't actually been apple picking. I wish BJ Reece had a separate charge for just going inside the Orchard as it is super pricey for a photo op that we wanted as it offers lot of activities for kiddos. However we wouldn't be doing any of the activities so definitely not worth it for us. On our first haul, we picked up September Wonders and Shizuka! Shizuka is more crisp and unsweet but you can glaze honey over it and it is amazing! September Wonders are small but sweet apples! Can't wait to go back for more! Also loved their honey, apple cider, and fried apple pie! Food wise, I wasn't a huge fan and we went over to R&A where they have better options~ Oh and don't forget boiled peanuts! Overall, worth the drive out and would recommend going super early to beat the crowd! Also Pet friendly except for the Market! Lastly, make sure you double check your purchased item! Was super upset to find out that my apple crisps were missing when I got home.

Yelp
BJ Reece has a fantastic orchard and it's definitely fun and family friendly. There are lots of things to do here other than picking apples and it is worth the trip to Ellijay! Plus the apple selection is phenomenal and they're good!! I'm going back this weekend for more apple picking!!

Yelp
$200 for 5 people entrance fee and 3 half peck bags. We love BJ Reece and have been visiting every year for at least 10 years. The experience is a part of our Fall tradition. It is getting expensive, but we treat it as an amusement park. My "kids" are high school and out of college so much of our allure to this orchard has a nostalgic connection. We love the hayride, the new petting zoo (we like how the animals are in pens now versus free range running all over the place), the apple cannon ($5 for three apples), the market's fresh donuts and apple pies, picking apples (more for the walk and pictures), the slide (yes, we all still slid down), the frightened pig races, and the corn maze and scavenger hunt. The memories we've shared at BJ's have made our Fall time memorable. We join this with a trip to Amicalola Falls and Burt's Pumpkin Patch to make a complete trip. BJ's now has a new restaurant to add to their repertoire of activities with wine tasting and great ciders. I simply love this place!

Yelp
I stopped in on Tuesday on my way back home looking for some dinner supplies. The exterior is very nice and well cared for, and the inside is clean, organized and spacious. It is brand new so they are still stocking things, but they had a very fun selection of snacks, fruits, canned goods, and pies!!!! They have public bathrooms out back and also a few large picnic benches so that you can enjoy your treats. The woman at the cashier stand was very friendly and I felt welcomed the minute I walked in.

Yelp
Love this place!!! So many fried pies to choose from. Apples galore!! Where to start... the staff are all so friendly and helpful. They are quick with the pie lines too. I got an apple cider donut, was nice and fluffy. I also got a pecan fried pie. Yum! It was nice that you could buy single apples to try first. Well, we went back again the next day and bought bags of the apples. So good!!! Ludacrisp and Ruby Rush are my decided favs!!! Grabbed some pork rinds too, can't wait to try those. Must see if you are in the area!!

Yelp
Did not go this year but tried a new place instead. Leaving this review to say "that was a mistake and we'll be back to BJ Reece next year" Oh but we did go to the Cider Tasting Room - review to come
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Best hand pies in the area. We tried several places and none of them were close to the hand pies at BJ Reece's.

Brian H.

Yelp
Very crowded and had difficulty arriving to the Orchards but that speaks to the popularity of fall apples. Great place and wonderful business. They move product and people which you have to appreciate. I really love their variety of apples and products. I am a particular fan of the Pink Lady.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite stops in Ellijay. We learned about it at a wine tasting down the street and we are so happy we stopped. Note, there are two buildings across the street from each other. This review is on the ORCHARD STORE we did not go in the cider store. First thing to notice is in the parking lot. There is a small pipe barely extruding from the wall to the left of the entrance and you may see a bee or two around it. It connects to a beehive inside, but you should take a look because it is really cool. Service, good lord I thought I was family. They treated us like long lost cousins and at one point I thought they were going to have me sign adoption papers for my kids. Sadly, I think my kids would have stayed with them, because they had so much fun. They have a really good cross section of items, apples, apple cider, fried pies, fresh produce, rubs and seasoning mixes to give you a small sample. We had so much fun interacting with the staff and they guided us to some of the stores specialties. What we tried: Potatoes - needed potatoes for a roast I was cooking. These were fresh and delicious, plus it saved me a trip to Ingles. Onions - same as potatoes, good. Honey - wow, really good, plus the cool bee thing. Fried Blueberry Pie - fresh, warm and good. Fried Coconut Pie - OMG, this is AMAZING. Like a coconut crème pie in a miniature. (All their fried pies were really good.) Mint Jelly - my wife loves mint jelly, she opened this one in the car. Really cool spot, so stop in and take your time.

Yelp
Since moving to the great state of GA, I've been doing my best to try out the classic experiences that I'm told a Georgian should enjoy. Apple picking in the fall, now that's one of the biggest ones. Every year, the tourists in Ellijay descend upon these storied orchards with an intensity that really doesn't have much of a rival. It gets ultra busy, so my advice is to make your visit to the area outside of the traditional peak of the apple harvest. The festival is great and everything, but if you really want to enjoy the constellation of area farms, pay your visit a few weeks before others do. That being said, Reece is a super spot, and really fun for a visit with the kids. It's not like there aren't many choices here. The local farms really lay it out in a friendly way for the family day trippers. Among other farms, Reece is distinguished by the jawdropping views from the top of the hill. There are much worse ways to spend an afternoon, crunching on an apple and watching God's country roll on endlessly into the distance. They offer, of course, lots of activities for your tired munchkins (petting zoo!). Like other farms, the picking itself is pretty simple. You (1) pay a fee for a sack of varying sizes and (2) they set you loose amongst the trees. The farm store is very spacious and friendly, with the usual fare on offer. Reading other reviews, I probably missed an opportunity to get one of their hand pies, which are made in a tremendous array of fillings. My mistake, apparently. They've got lots of other stuff, from hot sauces to jellies to all kinds of what-have-you. A few things to keep in mind: (1) If you are picking on the hill (the portion of the farm south of route 52), there are not really a lot of convenient pass-through paths between the rows of trees, between which are strung guide wires. Your grandmother will not be able to climb between these wires. It's a working farm, so just keep that in mind when bringing infirm or otherwise vulnerable folks. (2) They do their best with outdoor bathrooms, but like usual, it's best to go before you leave. Not like my kids ever do, but it bears repeating.

Yelp
We've come here a couple times in the past, but missed last year when they raised their prices. It's a bit of a sticker shock, but they're dog friendly and we had our pooch so we stayed. Apple picking is merely the bait to get you in the door; in fact, you pay extra now to leave with a bag of apples (assuming you find some still on the tree). You're literally paying the gate fee to ride the rides, so maybe it's better to think of it as an amusement park. Next year we'll leave the dog at home and explore other options. 72$ for 3 of us and 3 half peck bags.
google avatar

Arpita B.

Yelp
I have never been apple picking and this was a great initiation to the same. Located in Elijay, GA the farm is 1.5 hours out of the city. There are several other farms(apple picking, pumpkin, sunflower farms) so hoping amongst farms is not hard. However, we had so much fun at BJs that we didn't have time for another farm. Despite the ongoing pandemic I was shocked to see the large number of fellow Atlantans at the farm. Masks were needed everywhere indoors but not mandatory. The apple picking area was massive and I loved walking about and selecting apples of my choice. You purchase the bags and fill it with as many apples as you can and there is no shortage! Overall: a great fall experience
google avatar

Yelp
We had a fun time this past weekend at BJ Reece's enjoying everything in the outdoors from apple picking, wagon rides, pig races to seeing the farm animals and sliding down the large pipe slide. We just made some killer apple crisp. Last year we visited neighboring Hillcrest Farm. The difference between both farms is as follows: at RJ Reece you have activities on both sides of the highway and need to pay a la cart for additional activities such as pony rides, trampolines, a maze scavenger hunt, but you get apple bags for each entrant and the price is a little lower. Hill Crests entrance fee is steeper but includes some of the a la cart activities, but doesn't include a bag to pick and keep apples you can fit in your bag. Each of the farms have their own general store where you can get everything from local honey to apple fritters, doughnuts, and of course all the apple cider you can dream of. BJ Reece had some very unique activities like learning to milking a cow and some very unique long horn bulls. We had a wonderful time.

Chesley F.

Yelp
We went today on a field trip with our homeschool group. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed it. Some of the extra activities are only open on the weekend due to staffing we were told. So weekends are probably the best time to go if you want to do all the extra activities. We had a great time though for sure I would still recommend going during the week anyway if your fine with some of the activities being unavailable. My son enjoyed the corn pit and the tunnel slides.

Yelp
Headed to BJ Reece yesterday with some friends. They opened at 1p and we left Atlanta around 1145a on a Sunday. Traffic was smooth sailing until we got to SR 52. With there being so many attractions on one street, it made arriving a nightmare. So I'd you're coming from the city, I'd suggest leaving 2.5 hours early. Give yourself time to drive, park, and stand in line. Lines were long. There are quite a few things to do and with kids, it's very easy to want to get the largest package. DONT! You want have time to do it all and they know it! It's like going to a buffet and thinking you'll eat all of the food and get full after the salad. The lines in the market, which is where everyone wants to go to buy desserts and coders will eat up your whole trip. If you go with others, I'd suggest taking turns standing in line so that you can shop and save your spot. - CARRY CASH if you plan to eat at the food trucks outside. - Bringing some hand wipes and tissue would be helpful in the bathrooms bc they ran out of both. - if you have a wagon, you'd be happy you did. Trying to carry everything across two orchards can be a bit much. - when going through the orchards, save yourself a trip and go to the very end of the rows go get through. There are NO walkways to cross in between the rows of apples until you get near the GOLDEN DELICIOUS and ARKANSAS BLACK APPLES. We ended up doing a ninja course climbing over and under wires to get around. There were 15 of us and 9 of the 16 were kids (3 under 2). Don't be like us. - Don't try to be cute and wear your good clothes. You'll wish you hadn't. - Trucks and SUVS are best when parking in the U PICK 2 lot. Very easy to get stuck or stalled. - The slushies are delicious. The desserts are AWFUL.. awfully good!! Thank me later!! I'll definitely go back, but will make time to drink and shop.

Yelp
We had so much fun at BJ Reece Orchard. We enjoyed picking apples, the wagon ride, the zoo, and the slides. I'm gluten free and had the apple-strawberry slush and fudge. My family enjoyed the fried pies.
google avatar

Clarice L.

Yelp
It was absolutely wonderful. They had a wide variety of everything to choose from from popcorn to honey to hot sauce to syrup, and they had amazing pastries and hot food. It was simply to die for and my kids had a blast.

Yelp
Amazing spot! Lots of apples, fun for everyone. Staff are very kind & accommodating. It does get hot. We got there early -around 10:30 and still had a wait to pay to go in so keep that in mind. We were pleasantly surprised how delicious the September wonder apples were! My kids loved the petting farm. We all devoured our hand pies from the market. We also purchased cider donuts, jams, salsa, & peanut brittle. My kids really enjoyed the wagon ride around the entire property. We will definitely be back next year!

Yelp
You can spend a pretty good day with kids during apple picking season with plenty to do. One might expect a quaint north GA country experience but instead it's more like experiencing the great apple industrial complex. The setting is pretty, but it's not cheap. Considering their money making season is limited I get it but you also may leave feeling a bit gauged. We paid $18 to fill a medium bag and another $20 for the basic rides and entry red bracelet (they have a a few levels of bracelets and benefits). There were huge crowds the day we came and it took about 15 minutes to drive our last mile as a result. Once you're there the parking lot is huge and there are two separate sides of the road with orchards and other attractions/markets to explore. Our kids enjoyed the large "pillow trampoline," the giant tractor ride that loops the orchard to get from point A to point B and the smaller tractor ride with the cow cabooses. We saw a pig race and played on the nearby tires. We also visited the petting zoo and the apple themed market. The outdoor lunch cafe features the typical sort of fried fast food/hamburger offerings you'd expect but just a heads up that it's cash only. The food is fine but nothing special. We also paid $5 extra to try the tube slide which was fun but it was unclear what we were paying for- I overheard several customers arguing with the young teenage staff about whether that got them one ride, three rides, or unlimited rides because the signs lacked detail. The corn maze, which we did not do, is similarly not included in the red wristband price. Many rows of apple trees were pretty picked off but given the crowds this isn't surprising and if you are willing to walk a little further out, there were plenty of other apples left. I tried many delicious apples but I did struggle to find more than a few of the same varieties. I understand the featured varieties and pick areas vary day to day (I'm assuming to manage supply). I think the food situation could be better managed with the crowds and it would be nice to have more real bathrooms (and not just outhouses) considering the pricing. The staff was courteous and it was a fun overall experience but I'm guessing for most people, not worth doing more than once a year. We took some delicious apple cider donuts to go and we are looking forward to trying some interesting looking jams and salsa at home.

Yelp
This place is always amazing when we go. The only reason for four stars is that they are always overly crowded. They always have an abundant amount of food varieties in their little shop. Love this place though.

Cindy M.

Yelp
We have been coming here for 15 years and it has always been our favorite of the Orchards. But...last two year they keep changing and prices have skyrocketed. You use to be able to pick apples and only pay $2.00 plus cost of bag of apples you choose. Now you have to pay for everything, even if you don't care to do the other stuff. For a family, it is outrageous! They also use to let you take a picture in Orchard for only the $2.00. Now you can't even take a picture for tradition with out paying through the nose. Just not worth it anymore. It's ashame when you have a good thing and then expect your loyal customers to pay for all your changes, when you were obviously doing fine before.
google avatar

Caroline U.

Yelp
We usually go once a year and we go early in the day. As in, we are some of the first folks to get there. It has gotten more expensive recently, but that's everywhere now.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
We started coming here 18 years ago when our youngest was a baby and while we are thrilled that this place is a success we won't go back. Husband and I just wanted to pick apples but we had to pay $13pp just to get into the orchard- they have packages that include various rides and activities and too bad if you just want to pick apples. We chose the $20 for a half-pack of apples option and it is is a good thing we like Pink Lady because that was all they had despite having 4 others listed on the board. The market was absolute mayhem with no one easing traffic flow, creating lines, etc. and the prices are ridiculous. We bought apple fritters and apple hand pies and they were incredibly greasy and flavorless and we threw them away after 2 bites. Try to find a smaller orchard for a better and cheaper time.

Yelp
We had a really great time here. We live in Atlanta and so the drive was about an hour and a half. It's located in Ellijay. When you get closer to the Apple orchards, there's a couple of orchards close to each other, there is traffic. I recommend you get there earlier. We went there Sunday, they open at 1 PM we got there about 245. It was already packed! about a mile and a half out it takes about 20 minutes to get there because of traffic so make sure you get there in plenty of time. They have tons of parking spots and they also have parking on the grass. no one is organizing the traffic parking on the grass, it's sort of free-for-all so just be aware of this it can get weird! and be careful not to park somewhere where people can box you in because that seem to happen this weekend a couple of cars got box down because people weren't thinking when they parked :/ this particular orchard is one of the bigger ones and they have things on either side of the road including parking. You also have to wait in line to get tickets and it can get very sunny and hot! there are a variety of ticket options ranging from five dollars a person to about $30 a person. I think buying just a bag for apples is about five bucks. They also have extra things that come with tickets including pig racing, wagon ride and a few other things. Additional activities cost some money but it's not super expensive. It's a great place to bring children and there's tons of kids. The orchard is pretty big. Most of the best apple picking, at least for this season, is in the back of the orchard! also in the back there's pig racing and a corn maze for the kids. You may have to pay extra for the corn maze (upon initial entry when you buy all the tickets). When you get up to front to buy tickets they'll explain everything to you. The ticket line can move fairly fast depending upon how many people they have at the front. We parked on the side with the pig races. On the other side there's a huge store with tons of apples that you can buy along with the jams, jellies, candy, popcorn, fresh vegetables and tons of pumpkins etc. it's also packed! they also sell food like fried apple pies and pastries. On the same side as the store there is a Apple Canon, a slide and a petting farm. I'm not sure which one of these costs extra. I think they have apple orchards on that side too but we did not pick apples from this side. This was my first apple picking experience and I really loved it. I will say it was warm because you are in the sun a lot- the orchards aren't shaded. it can get packed full of people so I recommend getting there early. You probably need about 4 to 6 hours there may be more if you have more kids. It was just the two of us, no children, and we got there around 2:45 and left when they closed around six... and we felt like we could have stayed longer. lots of walking and some hills, wear comfy shoes! as far as restrooms are concerned there's Porta potty's on one side and on the other side there's real restrooms but I'm not sure any of them are super clean. i didn't use any of them so i can't be sure. Most of the activities and stuff are external so people aren't exhibiting Covid precautions. In the store however not many people are wearing masks and they're not limiting the number of people. Just FYI

Yelp
Bj Reece is always such a treat! My family and I go every year, and we definitely weren't going to miss out on it this year because of covid! We wore our masks and still had a great time! We went in late September and it seemed like a lot of the favorite apples were already gone. So I suggest going right at the beginning of the season to make sure you get a good pick of everything! The apples we picked were so crispy and delicious that it almost makes you wonder why they don't taste like that in the stores lol I suggest bringing a wagon if you want to pick a lot of apples (those bags get heavy pretty fast). Once we had our fill of picking apples and activities we went to the little shop on site. 10/10 would recommend trying the pie, donuts, and jams! We had a blast and can't wait to go next year!

Yelp
Nice local orchard. People are always nice. I usually buy the seconds as you get a variety and who cares if you get the perfect Apple.

Yelp
The side that we bought wristbands on let me and my oldest daughter, who didnt have wristbands, go in with the 3 youngest just as long as we didn't do the activities. But when we got to the other side of the road, which is where they had the petting farm, and the cow milk. My youngest daughter, only 6, was looking forward to that for weeks... well, when we got up to the wristband check place they told me that I could not go in with my children. So my 11 year old and her friend also 11 years old, took my youngest daughter in to see stuff. We drove over 7.5 hours to get here. I missed my baby milking her first moo moo. Cows are her favorite!! Its just frustrating that one side stay yeah yall be ok to be with them. But not the other side wasn't. I worked so hard for my babies so they can have fun. As I am writing this, I am standing here at the fence with a broken heart just waiting for my kids to come back out and realizing I will never be going back. They are also so so unorganized here!! No maps, no clear markings on where to go. And the help around don't even know the correct information to questions.

Yelp
I've been to Elijay several times and always wanted to do the u-pick thing at the apple orchards, and we got a chance to do so today. It was a great experience and is well organized. Many of the apples trees are bare and have rotten findings, and I think that was frost-related. Otherwise, the experience was great. You've got to search for good ones and you must check out the Farm Market with the bakery, local ciders, farm-fresh veggies, and other delicious treats. The people here are really nice. Kids will love the animals on the farm and kid-friendly recreational activities. The entire family can have fun at B.J. Reece's. I strongly recommend it for a delight fall romantic or family-oriented experience. We loved it.

Yelp
Family fun! Great place for family with little kids. They have so much activities. We came during apple season, but to our disappointment the apples had all dropped due to some prior temperatures drop. Despite no apple picking, the kids loved petting farm animals, milking the cow, and walking through the small corn maze. My favorite are the pork grind and apple slushy at the market, very tasty. I'm not a fan of apple nor apple juice, but after the fresh apple slushy, I'm a converted fan.

Yelp
Showed up Labor Day and all of the golden delicious trees were already picked. Very few apples were on the trees. Bought 2 bags to fill and were only able to fill one bag. Asked if we could exchange the empty bag for apples from the store, got a hard NO, so donated the bag to a person coming in. Quite disappointed. The orchards are picked for the store and leftovers left on the trees for U-Pick.. no guarantees that you will find good apples.

Yelp
Such a cool, cute little spot and soooo much fresh produce and beautiful tasty treats to go! We just missed the U-Pick season, unfortunately but there was still PLENTY of big, beautiful apples to choose from. I initially walked in looking for some direction, see what's recommended, if we could still view the orchards and the only poor girl working the counter was inundated with patrons. Aside from that, all in all great experience! The apple cider slushees are AMAZING!

Yelp
Our go-to apple orchard for apple picking season! They also have a ton of foods for sale inside. It's definitely a hike for some of the apples, but worth it. And they allow dogs which is a plus!

Yelp
It is a tradition for me to bring my kids here each year to pick apples. They LOVE it. I love it. The orchards themselves are expansive, with lots of options for picking if you go early enough. I think Mercier is more beautiful in landscape, so that is my fave if just going with adults, but BJ Reece is my pick with kids. There is a lot to do for kids, though I find everything a bit pricey. The petting zoo had several empty cages when we went, but we still paid the full price. It is pricey, but you are paying for the experience, I guess. I really like going on the hayride to the orchard on side #2, but my kids love the big slide and petting zoo on side #1. I do wish that everything was just all together. We usually end up just picking one side or the other based on time and crowds. Be sure to check the website before you go to find out what is available. For example I visited on a Friday and saw that many of the family fun options were not open (fine by me since they are expensive anyway). We will go back year after year.

Yelp
My family and I come here every fall for apple picking. It's a wonderful place to pick apples and make a day out of it. They have plenty of different types of apples where you pay for a bag, and then can fill it up. They also have a hayride, one of those trampoline jumping things for children, petting zoo, and a fair sized barn shack thing where you can buy already picked apple, jams, apple cider, and food you can order. This year, I was so disappointed from the lack of COVID precautions. Maybe one or two of the workers in the shop were wearing masks, they didn't seem to sanitizing or cleaning any surfaces, and the entire place was crazy crowded. I really enjoyed the apple picking part, since it was outdoors and away from other people, but the inside of the shop definitely needs work.

Yelp
i wanted so much to enjoy this experience. Our family was traveling with grandparents and children in strollers. The parking almost required a 4-wheel drive, if you were not lucky enough for a limited close space. Once we entered, we were excited to Apple pick. We purchased our tickets which included a petting zoo (very crowded) and some other random activities. We just wanted to pick so we had to pay extra for a bag to fill. we soon realized that there were NO APPLES close by left. You would have to hike another 40 mins to the very back to find maybe a couple. Not happening for toddlers in a stroller or for the elderly with extremely steep inclines. So we left, we got nothing for the money and felt cheated. I was told on the exit No refunds. Not even a credit for inside use. You would be better off to just walk in the store and purchase them.

Yelp
We visited today for the second year in a row. Almost skipped due to recent reviews, but the other orchard didn't allow apple picking on Mondays. The price depends on the activities you want to do, so if you're just apple picking it's not terribly expensive. We had to walk a bit for good apples but we found them. The weather was nice, and it wasn't too crowded. Sure there was a long line at the store for fried pies, but it's so worth it. Yum! Would've been five stars except the bags for apples were flimsy and the handles kept snapping. Other than that, it was a perfect visit.

Yelp
I had a great time apple picking here. I stopped by on Labor Day. The line wasn't too bad, but pro tip: if you are picking with out kids or if you just want apples, go across the street to the other orchard. There was no wait and there were plenty of apples within reach. I picked a peck of delicious apples: Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and a couple other varieties. I definitely recommend it. It would be great for a fun family weekend.

Yelp
Omg. This was my first time apple picking at an orchard. I was over the moon excited. This place is popular so they were definitely busy. Everyone is pretty good at wearing masks. It's very populated when waiting in line but when you get to the actual orchard section, everyone is separated. This orchard has 2 sides. The 2nd location is across the street. The side with animal petting, etc, had only 2 types of apples. Whereas the one across the street had about 6 different kinds of apples. Inside the market, they sell baked goods like pies, apple cider donuts, ciders etc. they have different kinds of cider besides old fashioned. I got peach and old fashioned because you can't go wrong. And oh baby. Drink it cold or warm her up, it screams fall and I'm here for it. They also have a mini snack stand where they sell sodas and hotdogs. Parking can be tricky here. It's tight and you might also have to park on the side of the road. But because everyone is coming in and out all day, sure enough, you should be able to find a spot.

Yelp
My first impression was completely disgusted as I needed to take my toddler to the restroom and every single facility was flooded! The porta potty was the cleanest option. Thankfully I did see a worker mopping and cleaning as we were leaving but just a heads up! Before we left I even had my toddler use our own potty that we bring on car rides so we didn't have to venture back into their facilities. The rest of our day here was wonderful! The petting zoo is definitely immersive and tons of baby animals to pet for toddlers and kids. There's an awesome slide and apple cannon! The trees had plenty of apples (although there did seem to be a lot of litter (maybe add more trash cans in the orchard). There's also a wagon ride which we didn't take but sounded fun. The store had everything you might want at an orchard from cider to ice cream, fresh produce, jams, and hot food as well! We would definitely come back!

Yelp
Fun apple picking spots. Lots to do. Gets very busy in the afternoon. The market was way too busy when we went in so we were able to snag some food to take home but couldn't get near the apple pie. I wish there were some food options inside but all in all, it was fun.
