The Barbecue Spot That’s Giving Back | Eater

"This Northern Nevada barbecue restaurant draws crowds for award-winning, sauce-slicked, smoky ribs that are slow-cooked to perfection, alongside other standouts like a pastrami sandwich made with pork (not beef), shrimp and grits smothered in a Louisiana cream sauce, smoked barbecue chicken, hand-ground burgers, and owner Jay Rathmann’s signature chili. Open nearly 40 years, the operation balances day-to-day quality with deep community commitment: every summer Friday the team hauls their smoker to Reno’s Food Truck Friday, supplying the truck and food while culinary students from local high schools and Truckee Meadows Community College run the kitchen under Rathmann’s mentorship, with proceeds supporting culinary education and the ACF High Sierra Chefs Association. The restaurant has a history of feeding frontline workers in crises—during Nevada’s 2021 fires they prepared and packed thousands of meals (gravy and biscuits, pork loin, mashed potatoes) for firefighters—and was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Intuit QuickBooks and Mailchimp Small Business Hero Program to expand support for student training and supplies. Rathmann credits a strong team of employees for keeping quality high and enabling the charitable and educational initiatives that have become central to the business’s identity." - Kate Dingwall

Smelled great as I pulled up so I cant tell you how disappointed I am in this place. Mac was alright but they have a funky cheese sauce. Seemed like they tried to do something fancy with it but missed the mark. The hotlink looked and tasted like a Zenner link they got from the grocery. Edible but I expected more than that. The ribs were Chewy with not a lot of flavor. Then there was the brisket which has no seasoning to it and was totally dry. Now I know why they ask "what sauce do you want on your meat"? I want none on the meat I want it beside so I can dip as I want not smothered to cover up the lack of quality. Sad that the best thing on the plate was the frys. They were fresh and really tasty. They need to work on everything else Update: After the response from BJs I needed to add here that I talk to my server when she asked how my meal was I told her it wasn't good at all. She turned and said ok and walked away. So again I say. This is very possibly one of the worst bbq meals I have had. Ever. I cant belive that the place was so busy. I guess reno has no idea what bbq is supposed to taste like. Also notice the second picture. That shows you how much I left on my plate.

My friends and I are constantly on the hunt for delicious barbecue brisket. After visits to many other local restaurants, we happened upon BJ's. I asked for dry, lean beef brisket. What I received was the slimiest brisket imagined. I tried to eat a few bites, but it felt gross and tasted dull. While our server did bring another portion that was better, she also brought me the wrong sides. Overall, the service was satisfactory, the atmosphere was busy, and most of the food was not to my liking... except for the barbecue baked beans, which were probably the best I've had in a very long time.

Google
Pretty good local BBQ joint with nofrill and friendly service. It's popular with locals and the ribs are tasty. I chose the hot sauce and it's not spicy at all. The ribs are moist and tender so no complaints there. I'm glad they have the option to order ribs only with no sides because I typically don't care for the sides in most BBQ places. The price is decent. The place looks like a decent BBQ place with a large parking lot. The atmosphere is lively even on a Tuesday night because of the locals. Tuesday is the tri tip day but I couldn't try it because I really can't stuff anymore food after 7 ribs. The service is fairly friendly with prompt ordering and water refill so absolutely no complaints there. Overall it's a great choice if you fancy BBQ especially if you are coming from CA like I am.

From Texas so this was a very different style of BBQ for us. BJ's love using SUGAR on/in their food??? Brisket was dry, hot sausage was hot 🔥 the beef ribs were good. I would give BJ"s 3.5 on food.

Google
I really wanted to like this place, because my husband likes coming here for ribs, but I left feeling ripped off and frustrated. I ordered a BBQ chicken plate and paid $17 for what looked like scraps. I got one small leg, and the tiniest thigh I’ve ever seen—definitely not worth the price. To make it worse, the plate looked like someone had already taken food out of it. It was thrown together carelessly, with barely enough meat to count as a full meal. Won’t be returning.

Google
the food was absolutely amazing, flavorful and clearly made with care. I would have easily given five stars based on the food alone. however, the atmosphere was off during my visit. I was seated near what looked to be where the cooks make the food. where a group of younger girls, including a very young blonde and a few brunettes, were gathered in one big group. They kept leaning into or table that separates us from them because of how cramped it was. what really stuck out was how openly they spoke about their coworkers in a very negative way. making it nearly impossible not to overhear their conversation. it was uncomfortable to hear such harsh comments being said in a public setting. it dint take away from the food, but it did affect the overall vibe. Hopefully just a off moment, but worth noting if you're looking for a more relaxed and welcoming dining experience.

Google
Stopped here for some bbq and was not disappointed! Great portions, the meat was delicious and the sides were so good! And the cornbread was amazing! Would definitely come here again!

Yelp
Amazing food! Had the brisket with mac and cheese and dirty rice--everything was absolutely delicious. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the sides were perfectly seasoned, and the whole meal hit the spot. This place is a great little hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint with tons of character. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area! Food was delivered fast with a smile!

Yelp
in a parking lot with random/homeless which was noticed outside, be aware of safety the restaurant was clean great service from the staff food togo was great, ordered the bbq feast with 1/2 pork ribs, 1/2 beef brisket, 1/2 bbq chicken with 2 sides macaroni and cheese and bbq beans pork ribs were great, flavor, and not dry beef brisket was moist and soft bbq chicken was soft, not dry, and tender it includes 2 sides which I selected macaroni and cheese with bbq beans the macaroni was light in flavor bbq beans were great I like how their bbq sauces are warm and thin, so its not super thick and dry great bbq, will be back for more in the near future!

Yelp
This place almost nailed it, and we'd definitely come back - but there were a few hiccups that kept it from being a perfect BBQ experience. Let's start with the good: the food is legit. The brisket was juicy and full of flavor, ribs were tender with just the right smoky bark, and the portions? Absolutely generous. Our table feasted on everything from BBQ fries loaded with meat and cheese to classic plates with mac & cheese, baked beans, cornbread, and potato salad. Everyone left full and happy in the food department. But the ordering situation was a bit of a mess. We were handed brunch menus at 1:45pm, placed our orders right around 2pm, and then the server came back to say brunch had ended. Two of us had to completely reorder - and while the lunch/dinner menu was way more exciting, others at our table were stuck with what they originally picked and would've liked the chance to switch too. Service was friendly but could have been more organized with communication - especially since it clearly impacted our meal decisions. Drinks were cold, the vibe was casual and lively, and we appreciated the fun Cajun specials they advertise (we'll be back for that seafood boil!). If they can tighten up the front-of-house logistics, this could easily be a five-star BBQ spot. As it stands, 3.5 stars for great food, solid drinks, and a slightly fumbled guest experience.

Yelp
We moved here recently from norther California. We LOVE bbq. This place was decent. The food was just good. Service was wonderful, we really liked the honesty of the waitress when we asked questions. Ambiance is cute. My daughter loved the signs on the walls and random figures around the place. Just wasn't super impressed by the food.

Yelp
I dropped by BJ's Nevada Barbecue to get their Wednesday Weekday Special: 3 BBQ Beef Ribs platter. As soon as walked up to the restaurant, the mouth-watering aroma of BBQ filled the air and as I walked through the door, I was warmly greeted by their hostess/cashier. I placed my order and didn't have to wait long until receiving my to-go order. The food was plentiful, aside from the ribs I also received 2 side items: dirty rice and potato salad plus a cornbread muffin. All the food tasted good, I especially liked the cornbread and the dirty rice. I also got a container of bourbon bbq sauce and it had a pretty strong bourbon taste. Overall, this was great initial visit: the staff were super-nice, the food was tasty, good portions and decent price. I look forward to coming back and trying the other items on their menu.

Yelp
BJs BBQ in Sparks smelled like smokey barbecue heaven when we walked in. I think they have the best corned beef hash in town. (Tied with The Stone House, maybe) Even the tiny applesauce is great. The grits are amazing! Lightning fast service with a smile.

Yelp
I actually tried BJ's at a Yelp event and was blown away. The ribs and sides they provided were excellent. Decided to try their actual restaurant and wasn't disappointed. I tried the tritip sandwich with was good. Personally, I wasn't impressed with the bbq sauce, but I'll give it another shot. The meat was well cooked and good. I enjoyed the sides, especially the sweet potato crunch! Try this if you like enjoy sweets. Really enjoyed the restaurant setting and environment. Felt right at home for a western style restaurant. The server was friendly but slow to take our order. I don't think this reflects the restaurant as much as it does the situation/server. I'd definitely try BJ's again and would recommend to friends.

Yelp
Fantastic Experience from Start to Finish! This was our first time here, and we had a great experience from beginning to end. We arrived on a Friday at dinner time with a group of six adults and two children. Despite the busy hour, we were seated within five minutes, and our food arrived in about 15--impressive! The service was excellent--friendly, efficient, and attentive. The portions were huge, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. It's definitely a lively and noisy place, but the fun and welcoming atmosphere made it all part of the experience. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We were told about the updated brunch menu and it did not disappoint! We were seated promptly and had the friendliest server! She had excellent recommendations for the cocktail menu, as well as the type of bbq sauce would be best for my brisket. We were tucked into a corner and the atmosphere was lively, without being overwhelming. We enjoyed the jalapeño cocktail and strawberry mimosas and definitely plan to visit again real soon!

Yelp
Loved the food! We tried the tri-tip, ribs and bbq chicken. This was the second time we tried the ribs and I still think they are the best thing on the menu. The sides were just as tasty, beans, Mac and cheese and sweet potato crunch. The sweet potato crunch is like a mashed sweet potato with nuts. Service was pretty good and everyone was very laid back. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy and smells perfectly of bbq :)

Yelp
We were so excited for some hometown barbecue as we decided on BJ's Barbecue on Victorian. We were greeted and seated cheerfully. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was clean but unusually cold. My wife and I both ordered the barbecue combo with two meats. She got the brisket and pulled pork and I stopped on the brisket and pork ribs. Even though BJ's has competed in the Best of The West Rib Cook off these ribs were ordinary and a bit dry. My brisket was cut from the point not the flat. It was cut with the grain and not crosscut. There was also no pink smoke ring and not much flavor. The waitress was kind enough to bring another cut but it was the same as before. Very disappointing because they have done well in the past. The barbecue beans were the star for me. I recommend adding the hot Bbq sauce to them. The cheddar grits and the sweet potato crunch were delicious. Pass on the Cole Slaw as it was drowned in mayonnaise. The cornbread was served cold. BJ's you missed the mark this time.

Yelp
We came for an early dinner and were seated at a table in the bar which was full of employees laughing and gossiping, probably should have asked for a booth in the dining room, but whatever. We ordered the bad ass fries. The chili was almost sweet and the fries were cold and sprinkled with unmelted cheese. A quick pop under the broiler would have made so much better. The brisket was tasty, and not too fatty. We also had the western bacon cheddar burger. It was good. The onion rings could use some seasoning to the batter. They were kind of bland. Burger itself was good and huge! The corn bread was kind of boring. Need to add some cheese or green chilis to make it a little more exciting. The service was excellent. The Jack honey and lemonade cocktail was delicious!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. They were playing country music which I'm not sure they usually do but it was very annoying as someone that hates country. I ordered the breakfast meat & eggs with a sausage patty and a cinnamon roll. We had a very nice younger waitress. The cinnamon roll was delicious and warm - very filling on its own. The sausage patty was supposedly "fresh" per the menu but it was hard to cut through and tasted like it had been sitting in the back of a freezer and microwaved too long. The eggs were decent and the country potatoes were on the softer side. I've been here before for lunch/dinner and the BBQ, salads, sandwiches, fries and brownie explosion are all really good. It was just a miss for breakfast this day. The cinnamon roll carried hard however, so I got one to go as well.

Yelp
I mean c'mon look at all this deliciousness!!! You still get some of the best food for your buck! You will never go hungry or leave hungry! Always satisfying and very gratifying!!! Bacon Bloody has got some real good flavors and you need to come try it!! Breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will be sooooo happy you came!!!

Yelp
I'm a bit confused with the way my Brisket was served, I may be wrong but brisket is to be sliced against the grain not with the grain. It was serve to me with my ribs on to like the cook was trying to hide it , the flavor was good but the brisket was tough and hard to chew. Not one of my better experiences at BJ's
google avatar

Danada M.

Yelp
This should be an update to my previous review, although I don't see my previous review. I came back this morning at 10:45 am to sample the country gravy and order a BBLT sandwich. I couldn't order the sandwich until lunch begins at 11am. So I ordered a mashed potatoes and country gravy to tide me over. But I also couldn't order mashed potatoes till 11am. So I asked for a country gravy sample. It was ok but I won't come back specifically by 11:45 to get it, because I'm told it is breakfast only and they toss it by 12noon. Basically, you can order breakfast OR lunch between 11am and noon. Keeping in mind that it sounds like you better be early enough that they've SERVED up your breakfast only items BEFORE noon. I realize the necessity for a schedule but I feel like tossing the country gravy at exactly noon might be a bit rigid. (:-) The BBLT claims to have DOUBLE PEPPER BACON and it's a fair claim. There's lots of bacon. And it is peppery. I can still taste the pepper on my tongue. It's also thick sliced. It definitely has a different flavor from traditional bacon. I like it. The coleslaw tastes like typical restaurant coleslaw. The service here is great. The menu is varied. My next trip I might try one of their interesting baked potato meals. If you find this review useful please vote!

Yelp
Just want to hit on the Excellent Service we always get here! Kelly is a SuperStar! The food is Always Excellent here but you know this! But when people can make you feel comfortable and at ease and like you are the only one that matters this is a real special trait! Thanks!

Yelp
Came by during the lunch rush for a lunch meeting with two co-workers. I throughly enjoyed the food and we were served and paid within the hour - which is all you can ask for a lunch service! I got the pulled pork, grits, coleslaw, cornbread, and brisket with medium BBQ sauce. i could've gone a lot spicier on the BBQ sauce, but the meats were tender and juicy. Portions were great and I took home half for dinner! The space screams BBQ Pit in the south, which I appreciate. They don't try to be fancy or over the top - instead they are exactly what they promise and it is absolutely delicious.

Yelp
Craving bbq, then you must go to BJ's Nevada Barbeque. I ordered the slab of ribs bbq meal with 2 sides (sweet potato crunch and Mac and cheese) and cornbread. My order was ready upon my arrival to the restaurant. I could already smell the smokiness through the bag and couldn't wait to get home to dig in. Smelled delicious. The ribs had the perfect smokiness to them, meaty and tender. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, and the sweet potato crunch was so delicious and comforting, the perfect sweetness. Yum! Everything was delicious. Definitely satisfied my bbq craving.

Yelp
Honest food review: Not your traditional breakfast, but one you'll love to share or take on alone! 5/5 -Jay does it right! BBQ is one of those things that takes time, patience, hard work, and I've known Jays Craft with BJ's BBQ since they used to cater our high school fundraiser and most recently when they catered a friends wedding. DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!!! -Bomb Ass (Brisket upgrade) 5/5 Not your traditional breakfast, but let me take you on a food adventure that will get your mouth watering! Upgrade from pulled pork to a Brisket that melts in your mouth... as you savor the runny yolk with a side of hot bbq, mixed with a creamy soothing texture of sour cream that gets emulsified and makes this a breakfast adventure... the flavors combine and hit you with a refreshing scallion flavor that now combines fries with everything! Be warned... the fries are not crispy like you'd expect... but... it works so well... I'm sure you can ask for your fries to be "well done" but why!?!? You get a light fluffy texture that rivers your mouth with flavor as everything combines for a delicious bite. The brisket is a must when you order this for breakfast as the combined flavors make this a perfect breakfast date meal for you to share, or... conquer on your own. You pick your battle, this one will come kickin!!! This is one of Sparks hole in the walls that is known for bringing some of the best flavors to our beautiful Northern Nevada!

Yelp
Sad to say I waited over 3 years to go to BJ's ..... to be fair I've had their ribs and sauces at the rib cook off a couple times before but my first visit to their restaurant in Sparks was really good! Pork Ribs were tender and delicious, tried the medium and spicy BBQ sauces and both were good. They have a nice house special-kick ass fries, basically loaded fries with cheese ,sour cream, green onions and pulled pork with BBQ sauce on top. Kick Ass fries were very good and filling with a healthy pile of pork so if you order some consider splitting a plate or sandwich with your friend or significant other, good flavor, I added a little salt to the fries because I believe they are served plain so you can salt to taste which is perfect. Side salads were very tasty, fresh house made ranch with nice greens served in a chilled bowl! And last but certainly not least the cornbread was excellent, definitely the gourmet version made with white cake batter that makes a lighter sweeter cornbread that tastes bit like an old fashioned donut , well done ! Service was great, our waiter was helpful at recommending specials etc and overall we had a very pleasant dinner. We will definitely be back with family and friends very soon!!

Yelp
I would give negative stars if I could. We went for dinner as a group of 6 people in their 30s. The server as well as the manager were beyond rude. We were constantly targeted when someone was even tasting someone else's drink and asked multiple times to show our IDs. They refused to accept a foreign passport as a valid ID which even airports accept. When we were asking questions, the server told us " I have had enough" and stormed off, As a loyal and frequent patron for this location for over 5 years, it was the first time we were treated this way and definitely never going back there ever again.
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING!!!! My absolute favorite is the kick ass fries! So bomb! Staff is very friendly and the environment was great! But loud if you wanna have conversations so expect that if you plan to have a get together for a meal here. Loved the food and service!

Yelp
Food is always good. Wait time very, so plan ahead. Also great for a group. Our family of 10 enjoys this restaurant

Yelp
Definitely some solid bbq! If you ever come here, the standouts are the ribs, brisket, and cornbread. We had a big party and they were able to accommodate us easily. We got one of their loaded fries, onion rings, fried cheese, a seafood boil, a family platter, and a rack of ribs. Enough to feed 11 and more. I would probably skip the seafood boil next time.

Yelp
Dined in for a late lunch or early dinner. Home of the kickass fries and finger licking good BBQ. Rose was our server and was great. She was busy but still took great care of us. My last few visits were spaced over the last five years, but only two were sit downs for breakfast, and the remaining were to pick up to go for dinner. Say yes to their cinnamon rolls if they have them. They sell fairly quickly! We're more healthy conscience these days, so we only visit for a BBQ fix and all of their homemade comfort foods. Their cajun seafood boil is their Saturday special and looked appetizing, but we came in for BBQ and cornbread. We ordered: beef brisket, hot links, ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and mash potatoes with gravy, cheddar grits, and Cole slaw and bbq beans. We ordered an apple crisp for dessert. Spacious dining rooms with plenty of tables for any size party. They offer booths off to the side as well. It's a great space. Their portions aren't as big as I remember, but I get it with our inflation rates these days. The apple crisp was better after tye vanilla ice cream melted and softened the crisps a bit. Support local on your next outing! Bjs BBQ is great for catering, too! Thank you for another great meal and I'll see you for our next BBQ fix.
google avatar

Edward R.

Yelp
So the Good, Portion size was insane, so many fries and pulled pork. The service was quick and food was out in no time. The decor was fun and clean tables. Bbq sauce was a mild, and it had good flavor without being too much. The bad, just the kick ass fries section doesn't come with a side. The Ugly, fries were on the cool side for coming out as fast as they did. I also got the BBQ beans as a side and way to overpowered on flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been going to BJ's for 35 years! I think they have one of the best breakfasts in town. The mimosas are only $5.99. Kristy has been my server for years and I will only sit in her section! She is not only my server but my friend!! She knows how to treat her customers with outstanding service! If your meal is not right she will ensure you leave happy. Thank Kristy for all you do at BJ's BBQ.

Yelp
Went here while in Reno The young lady who answered the phone was very kind. Lily was our server and she knew all the menu items and gave great recommendations. I had the meatloaf never had BBQ meatloaf it was great! Everything my party ordered was very tasty and the service was great. Portions were okay expect for the fries they were a lot! Nice looking place. If I'm ever back in Reno/Sparks I'll go there
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Ordered takeout and the person on the phone was super kind! Unfortunately, the food was meh. The mild bbq sauce is nothing special, I could make better bbq chicken myself. My partner said the pork wasn't great either. The Mac and cornbread were good. I might come back and try the brisket.

Yelp
I was asked to send in my receipt, which I did. It clearly shows that I gave a 25% tip and there was an additional gratuity added to it. 8 months later I've heard nothing at all from the company. Again, we had great service and great food but when I drive by I think about this. All they had to do when they seated us is to say we add a gratuity when you have this many people. Fine. I understand. I just didn't see it. It wasn't communicated to me and I ended up paying a very large tip, part of which I intended to and part I did not.

Yelp
Picked up takeout today. Favorite cinnamon roll and pepper bacon 8 piece platter. Lady at the cashier desk very friendly, took care of everything. Ambiance is very much like good old fashioned dinner.

Yelp
Good food, great service. Always a pleasant stop when we travel. Looking forward to next time.

Brently G.

Yelp
We was told it was one of the best spots for bbq in town by locals... was not at all it's a waist of money. The chicken was dry and the mac and cheese was terrible. The seafood boil was overcooked shrimp and clams along with the mussels were all mushy and just plain out nasty. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone
google avatar

Conrado M.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great ambience. From the minute we walked in Alyse, the hostess, was friendly, nice and took our name. After a couple of minutes Launi, walked over with a friendly smile and walked us to our booth. Cameron, our food server, came over and asked if we needed drinks. He explained all the various types of dishes. Cameron was great and he checked on us throughout our meal. BJs has the best barbecue (Pulled pork, brisquet, chicken and short ribs), potato salad, beans and corn bread, in Sparks and Reno. Can't wait to come back. This definitely is a five star restaurant. Thanks

Amanda G.

Yelp
Why did you have to mess with the weekend breakfast menu. I don't want bbq, I want Sunshine Eggs and now I can't get them on the weekends when I am off work. Waitress said you all didn't want to have to cook all the breakfast and lunch orders so you did Brunch. Sounds like I won't be coming here very often. BJ's you can do better!!
google avatar

A.L. G.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I was there last. My wife and I had been making plans to stop in when in town and we finally were able to do so this week. I had been really looking forward to getting a dish of Shrimp and Grits. I went with that dish, and had the staff put a couple of over easy eggs on top (special request!!!) and man that meal was darn good! Too much food to finish at one sitting, so styro to go! (Both meals actually!) My wife ordered a combo plate that included ribs, brisket, beans and apple crisp. Now that apple crisp side dish is nothing short of heaven! Awesome! Never had an apple better than like that before! The restaurant itself is pretty laid back. We were there at 3 or so. The waitress was very attentive and a sweet person! She has a great personality too and she was there when we needed her, not there when we did not. We will return soon!

Yelp
I just want to be clear. This is my favorite restaurant in the valley. The owner is an incredible person, actually cares about his employees. I don't know him, but I saw him on the news during Covid and he forever ingrained to me as one of his customers. They have the best breakfast anywhere here, aside from their amazing barbecue. Best pancakes on the planet...but Two things, the first is the peppered bacon that makes that breakfast so special, it does not translate to a BLT. I got a BLT yesterday, it came with a piece of lettuce and two scraggly pieces of tomato, jampacked with bacon so thick you can't bite through it. My middle name is bacon, and this is the first time in my life I've ever complained about bacon, but it must be said. I am suggesting that you up the vegetables, and get thinner bacon for the BLTs. Maybe not even peppered bacon, like hickory bacon. Anyway, this is my favorite place in the world, I'm not beating on you, I'm trying to help make the customer experience better. I did not leave yesterday happy. Which was the first time that has ever happened. And the way I think about these things is this. If I had that experience and thought, I am not alone. Others have felt the same way probably and just never spoke up. Or maybe they have I haven't gone through every review. The other reason I'm not happy is their to go containers. Styrofoam is over. That crap causes cancer, especially when you put hot food in it. It melts. I would gladly pay a quarter more for my meal to have a corrugated cardboard container. It's such a great restaurant that cares so much about their employees, I think it's time to throw a little care back toward the people you're giving food to. I was gonna bring my wife the beef rib lunch special yesterday, but I'm not getting food in that crap. Styrofoam likely causes cancer and DNA damage to our bodies, please don't be part of that. I will still continue to eat lunch here at least once a month for the rest of my life. Just probably not the BLT.

Yelp
BJ's BBQfor great bbq, Yes! BJ's BBQ for breakfast- absolutely! A great breakfast menu that has great options, eggs, pancakes, omelettes and much more. I chose the BJ's style Benedict and it was wonderful. Two eggs topped with shaved ham and hollandaise sauce atop two buttermilk biscuits. You can get a side of cheesy grits, home fries or fresh fruit- I loved the home fries. Sat at the counter and was quickly greeted and hot coffee was poured. It was a little busy but this didn't prevent the food from getting to us promptly. Very homey feeling restaurant and quality staff. Well worth a try.

Yelp
I've ordered rueben sandwiches all over the world and this was surprisingly bad for a Barbecue restaurant. The corned beef was fatty, just a whisper of sourkraut and no mustard. For $18 I expected a lot more beef than four thin slices. I won't return.

Yelp
As soon as the door opened you knew you were in the right place....the bar be que aroma burst through. Our group of 14 was seated after waiting about 5 minutes. The server was very accommodating, with the help of a new server starting that evening. The pulled pork sandwich was tender and delicious, the sweet potato crisp was good, sweet iced tea was very good, everyone ordered something different and everwas pleased. Cute decor, clean redtrooms Would definitely dine here again.

Yelp
Decent bbq, the taste is pretty good but their brisket sandwich had so many pieces of fat still in it. I get it, a brisket has some fat on it, but biting into huge fat globs kind of ruined it for me.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Great onion rings. Potato salad, bbq beans, sweet potato crunch and cheesy grits were so good. The pulled pork was so good, I want to try the other meats, but won't. The service is great. Lilly was our waitress and was attentive without being obnoxious. Ambiance is perfect for the style of restaurant. Definitely a must try again.

Yelp
Food was good but very overpriced. Service was great. I'm sure tariffs had nothing to do with the cost per meal.

Yelp
This restaurant is and always will be my favorite breakfast place in town. Everything is made from scratch. The bacon is cured and peppered onsite. The brisket is corned, cured, and ground into hash onsite. This place is very, very unique and unlike anything else in town. All of this is served up in a very fun environment reminiscent of some of my favorite little spots in Louisiana with service to match. Ask to sit in Kristie's section to have great southern food served to you by a genuine belle of the Bluegrass. You won't forget it.

Yelp
Back in Reno stopped by for the first time which was a great experience. Place was very busy which was great to see, food tasted good plus it was out right away, and we had great service she was on top of things. Get out and enjoy some local BBQ!
