Cash only... We had a great club sandwich, veggie burger, and grilled cheese. The food is basic but very well done. With $4 beers and wine, plus good food--it's hard to go wrong. We will absolutely be back.

Love it! It's a must stop for us every time we are up the mountain. Owners are the best. Chuck cooks the best burgers around and Heidi is always welcoming and gives phenomenal service. Chili is a staple too! It is a locals place and we love it for that. Slightly off the beaten path. Tons of character. And the beer IS COLD! The deck is open in the summer and the wood stove is kicking in the winter.

Used to come here as a kid for $1 pancakes. While they no longer have that, food is good and very well priced. Got the Pastrami dip and it was super cheesy! Wife got the garden melt, which she enjoyed. I got the coleslaw as my side which is different as its made with balsamic instead of mayo. Very cool. The owner Chuck and his staff were very nice, and service was top notch and quick.

Fantastic local place to get a bite! I come here a few times a year and always enjoy the food. Service is good as well. It's a small place so you're never far from your server. The Ruben is great, highly recommend.

Good sandwiches, fast service, just be aware that when they're busy they might not pick up the phone for your takeout order, just head down and they'll have your order ready in ten minutes or so.

I’ve eaten burgers from all over... and this is hands down the best burger I’ve ever had in my entire life! If you’re in the big bear area please do yourself a favor and visit this gem! Great service and even greater food!

On vacation in the mountains and we found this place we went not once, but twice and honestly might be a third before we leave the area. My group of 3 enjoyed the burgers on our first trip the 2/3 pound burgers were perfectly cooked and delicious. Second time around we had the 1 pound burger, tuna melt and roast beef melt. And not a plate was left with any food on it. Amazing place to stop at if you are in the area. Super friendly people running the place and whoever cooks those burgers please let them know that those are some of the best burgers that we have had

Cold beer, great service, bad club sandwich. It's hard to beat a good club sandwich--and I've had more than I can count--but unfortunately they don't have one here. Too much bread (untoasted, by the way), too much Swiss (which was rather tough, so I had to pull it all off), a lack of mayo and some bitter iceberg lettuce. It's really a mystery how they missed the mark because it had all of the ingredients of a club sandwich, but it was very un-club like. I've eaten here before and their other sandwiches are pretty good, but the club, not so much. An icy gold Goose Island IPA and some Lays potato chips--of all things--salvaged the meal. Not much better than a great IPA and some salty chips. I'll be back, but I won't be ordering the club, for sure.

Remember they'r cash only!!!! My only issue... Delicious sandwiches & frosty cold beer for an actually affordable price. The food is excellent so is the service. This place is a small rustic little cabin sandwich shop & they are great! I've been coming here for many years & I've never been disappointed in the slightest. The owner/cook is always on point & he deserves massive praise for keeping prices affordable over the years!

Best hamburgers in Big Bear! You can waste your money elsewhere... Cash ONLY, go there and enjoy! Colder months? Grilled Cheese and a cup of Chuck's custom chili is the best thing to warm your bones. Don't expect french fries, "German Style" potato salad is the best option.

A hidden gem! Super cool sandwich shop. Veggie sandwich was great, so was potato salad. Service was friendly and helpful. Fun to look at all the old signs and vintage decor. So glad we tried it out!

You can't beat BJ's for the friendliest service and the most delicious food!! The burgers were top notch. Going back again before our vacation ends to try more things. It's a super chill place to relax and enjoy a meal with locals ... that to me says a lot ... they know the best places for tasty food in a happy environment.

This was the only place close to our rental when we got to Big Bear. Ambience was very homey, like a mom and pop shop. My daughters got the mini hamburger, which they said was good. My husband and I shared the club sandwich. Bacon was a little too burnt for me, and sandwich was overall very dry. The 4 stars are for the burger and the nice wait staff who helped us with our order. Would I go back here? Maybe.

Yesterday, while helping some friends, a local told me this place had the best burgers in Big Bear. We later visited with our oldest daughter, who lives locally and she told me they had excellent burgers. She also advised me that you had to pay with cash only. I went there today and ordered two, two patty burgers. I had macaroni salad and American cheese on mine. My wife had the cole slaw with hers. They don't sell fries with their sandwiches, but that is not a must for all sandwiches. The burger was fresh, the lettuce was crispy, the meat was juicy, the cheese was fresh, just absolutely delicious. They are only open until 3:30 PM on Sundays. My wife said her burger was delicious as well. She had pepper jack cheese on her burger, and she advised it was delicious. We are here through Wednesday, so we will try and get back here before we leave. If you are in Big Bear, you should really stop by here, you will not be disappointed.

Stopped for lunch on a rainy day & split a Reuben sandwich, potato salad, Mac salad & bowl of chili. The Reuben was delicious 10/10! I'm really picky about my deli salads, but these were super good 10/10. The chili was hearty with a lil kick, but a bit salty for me (my bf had zero complaints & devoured it) 7/10. The ambience was really chill & homely & the staff was funny & sweet. Will def be back next time!

This place gets 1 star only due to the kindness of the server and her patience. The place has been around forever so I don't expect it to look new what I do expect though is it to be clean. It's not remotely clean, it's less clean than a hotel room where 10 drunk teenagers stayed for 30 days without ever cleaning. The benches, sticky, like my hand stuck to them, the bathroom, the door was the first indication and it was insanely sticky as if it hadn't been wiped down in a year, not a figure of speech. The bathroom looks like a set from an episode of SVU where they found a body. Standing water in the bathroom, bathroom floor cracked all the way though, zero paper towels and if you walk out the bathroom don't look into the kitchen to the right, it's the stuff of nightmares. Now to food, half our order was wrong, the server though was fantastic and was quick to fix / help with everything. She was kind, great with kids, super pleasant and is the best thing here. Food quality was bad, really really bad. Some of my favorite places are small, local BBQ places (like manny or dons in Yucca or 29). The food was caked in oil / butter, meat was sparse and incredibly fatty, potato salad was runny, like tip the container over and it just ran out runny. Avoid, seriously, go anywhere else. Unfortunate as I was hoping this place would be a gem but after digging it was just a dirt clod.

Stopped by BJs for lunch this weekend. Great sandwiches at a great price, cash only though. As a vegetarian there were a couple options, including the garden patty melt. My friends appreciated the pastrami made in house on her Ruben. Cute, eclectic, local place that I'll certainly return to next time I'm in Big Bear.

BJ's is the real deal when it comes to the true flavor of Big Bear. It's a mom & pop small business with a local's vibe. This is no noisy overpriced chain, it's that gem you'll brag about finding. Oh I should say no CC or ATM cards. It's a cash only restaurant. I have tried both side's, I recommend the Mac salad. I'm not going to go on about everything, but I'm partial to the Rubin & the Burgers.

10/10 every time I eat here. Grew up next door to this family and they are extremely kind. Their food is delicious! It is cash only so come prepared!!!

10/10 recommend coming here! This is a great, affordable and delicious lunch spot in Big Bear. This place has so much personality and you immediately feel like you're welcome here by the staff. Shout out to Kim! I had a hot Turkey sandwich with provolone and au juis and my partner had the grilled pastrami. Both sandwiches were AMAZING! Personally taking Kim's suggestion is what I recommend. I wish I took a picture but it looked so amazing I couldn't help but just dive right into the sandwich lol

Wow, my large family of 9 was having a hard time finding a place to eat when we took a trip to big bear. We decided to try this place right as the opened. The owners were so nice and very accommodating! The burgers were delicious and the atmosphere was cozy. Highly recommend!

This is my favorite place on the mountain! Killer sandwiches and cold beer, what more could you need? Service is always friendly and fast. I'm partial to the Ruben, but have had just about everything on the menu and love the burgers and dips too. It's a dive and that's exactly what's great about it. It feels like you're eating at your grandfather's rustic cabin in the mountains.

Wish we came in sooner! The atmosphere is great, waitess was really friendly and the sandwhiches were bomb. Roast beef was tender on a fresh toasted roll. The potato salad is different but in a really good way. I wish I had some to go.

I've been to this place several times. It is always five stars. The service is awesome. The food is phenomenal. And they have beers on tap. Highly recommend. Don't miss a chance to come to this place. Burgers are very good...

I was in the locker room at Snow Summit and a friend stated the best burgers in Big Bear were at BJ's. I have lived here for 4 years and never eaten there. Today I gave it a try and boy was it worth it. I had the best burger I had in years at a wonderful price. I definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu. If you want a polished chain restaurant stay home. If you want small town atmosphere with good food at a good price go right now.

Great food and service from a great old school big bear establishment. I love the turkey dip personally but the bbq sandwich is great too!

Just visited this restaurant and it was horrible. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and it literally had one slice of pastrami per side. So disappointed. I came here 2 months ago and it was great but today was a no go! I felt ripped off * I quickly received a response from Heidi and Chuck apologizing for their mistake and offering to make it right. I returned this afternoon and they happily made me another sandwich. Thank you for your great customer service. I will be back.

This place is very tiny. They have a lot of outdoor seating, which is always nice. My husband was talking about the bread they used on his sandwich non stop. Months later, he STILL brings it up. This is a must try spot!

we wanted to get away from the weekend traffic + found this place on yelp with great reviews. customer service was very friendly. my sandwich was tasty. i ordered the reuben on sourdough. it came with a side; i opted for potato salad. both were satisfying. i enjoyed my lunch at bj's. it's your local, no frills, hole-in-the-wall sandwich spot. prices were reasonable. parking was easy. cash only.

CASH ONLY??? It's 2020, there is a pandemic, why is this place still CASH ONLY? Food is fine. Menu is great. Service is... I was left with the feeling that this place was not to be taken seriously. Skip it.

2/16/20 after dual-sport riding in from Landers on BLM and Forest Service roads, my two friends, my son and I were hungry. Before starting our ride I did some research looking for a place to eat and get gas not too far off 2N02, BJ's fit that bill. We arrived right at lunchtime, it was busy, after checking in with the server, we had bench about 10 minutes later. We ordered our drinks and perused the menu. My friends both ordered the BJ Burger (both got cheese but I do not remember what kind) with coleslaw, my son ordered the BBQ beef sandwich with potato chips (they don't serve French fries), I got the BJ JR. Burger with Swiss cheese and coleslaw, a short wait and our food was at our table. After taking our first bites, we almost simultaneously exclaimed how tasty our meals were. The Balsamic vinaigrette coleslaw was a departure from the norm, but a good one, you should try it! All in all a great eating experience. Prices are reasonable and staff friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back next time we are in Big Bear. 3/14/20 Speaking of Being back, I took my wife and she loved it too. 5/24/20 My wife, son and I were at our place in Landers, and drove to BJ's for lunch, You know it's good food when you'll drive 50 plus miles to get it, and I'm sure we will do it many more times.

I still love this place as the food and service are very good and prices reasonable but when eating there recently the waitress didn't wear a mask at all and paper menus were still being used. Chuck is a strong cook and the servers are super sweet but they should try and at least have the servers wear masks for now if nothing else. Taking 1 star off for now until the needed changes are made or the coronavirus disappears. I've been eating here for years and will continue to do so at some point but right now it doesn't feel safe to do so.o EDIT: thanks Chuck. You'll absolutely see us again for sure. I'm sure you're doing and will do what needs to be done. Love your place!

The food was underwhelming to say the least but it wasn't bad. Prices are for sure good though. For $2 draft beer it's hard to complain. This place won't blow you away but it's alright. Overall I'd say it's just average

We stopped in for lunch on the deck. Hot turkey sandwich and a cheese burger. Very nice service and delicious meals. It was nice sitting in the sun on the deck. I can see how this would be a fun place to come in the evenings for a meal and a drink.

Cash Only! Has been since opening. Restrooms are for customers ONLY. There are NO French fries or onion rings. Very rustic "decor". If you can't deal, go somewhere else. Too bad cuz you'll miss some great pub food. Huge portions, nicely prepped. Friendly wait staff. Up to a 1 pound burger! Expect higher prices than LA/OC but about the same as SD. Stop complaining; you're on vacation! Warning: Limited hours. Different on various websites.

What a cool spot. Felt safe in there getting out to go food. The burger was one of the best I've had. Also got a ridiculous pastrami sandwich. Service was so friendly and quick. Awesome local spot. Will be back for sure.

Yum!! This place is a great in and out sandwich spot with reasonable prices. They have a few vegetarian options which is one of the main reason I decided to give them a try. I had the veggie sandwich which was fresh and light. The avocado and Italian dressing really made the sandwich great, especially compared to the many dry and tasteless "veggie" sandwiches I've eaten over the years. They also serve a garden burger patty melt which I'd love to try next time. My husband got the BLT which he said was equally as fresh and delicious. Their potato salad is unlike any I've ever had. It's peppery with celery instead of pickles, unique and tasty. I just wish the "side" was a slightly bigger serving. For the prices and quality of food, you can't beat this sandwich spot!

I LOVE a good hamburger...with that said, BJ's is THEE place. It is a small diner/bar and not close to the ViLLAGe, where honestly everything seems o-Kay. Food up here is $$ and less than stellar. BJ's is next door to the Community Market (a good place also), the ambiance is chill and quiant. They have cool little Knick knacks all around. Our server was sweet. There are no french fries but we love to try new things. The burgers come with a side of macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw (balsamic vinegar based) or chips. We all had the BJ burger. You select your bread, cheese, and sides. I took mine with a regular sesame seed bun, provolone, and side of potato salad. The potato salad was good. I It was FABULOUS with provolone cheese. They add pickles, shredded lettuce and onions to a juicy perfectly cooked patty. We had some real chatty kids and let me telll you, once the food came out---SILENCE. Everything was delicious. I wish I'd heeded the recommendation earlier from the person we rented our cabin. When we parked our car and were walking over a local asked if we were eating at BJs and was like "They have the best burger!" I agree. Their price is reasonable and will come back again. I can see coming in for beer and hanging out with friends. I know you will enjoy this little gem.

I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE!!! It is THE BEST! ICE COLD drafts beers....literally Ice dripping off the mug! AND, I don't know how anyone could ever manage toasting bread better than these guys. Burgers are BOMB!

This is a fine place for adults to grab a burger and a beer, but this is NOT a kid-friendly family restaurant as Yelp would have you believe. It's a dive bar along the side of the road that makes a decent burger (4 star burgers). The kid menu portion on the larger menus have all been crossed off by the owner. Also, know that this restaurant is CASH ONLY. The service was fine and there is an outdoor patio with limited seating.

I'm writing this to remember for the next time we come up to Big Bear, because we'd have lunch here again. Everyone was happy. -Good, juicy cheeseburgers (kids burger was tiny and my 6 y.o. finished it and ate half of mine) -Hot roast beef sandwich (husband said, "It was good") -chips hood, but nothing special -potato salad was delicious (peppery and creamy) -beer (ice cold IPA in a frosty mug) -tap water (should have splurged for the bottle) -ambiance (chill, rustic, picnic tables) -cash only (3 adults and 2 kids ate with drinks for under $50.)

Came here a few weeks ago and is one of my favorite places now, the pastrami is delicious. I will say it could use some more meat - just had 1 thin slice but was so good I will absolutely be back

Great sandwiches at BJs ! If u are looking for some sandwiches to pick up and take back home or to have there inside or out on their patio area u can't go wrong coming here. My favorite is the ham and Swiss with grilled on onions and the owners are always super nice

I've been going here for many years. Food has always been great. I love the whole menu but the coleslaw is amazing! Chuck and his crew are always amazing. When my family or friends come up to visit me, I always take them here. Deserves more than a 5 star rating!
