"Planned for the former Hamburger Hamlet site on Agoura Road in Agoura Hills, this new BL Dancehall & Saloon from the owners of the Borderline family is advertised as featuring a "brand new custom built dance floor" as well as a patio, outside bar, game room, and live performance nights. No formal grand opening has been announced, but ownership says they are keen to open "very soon," and the venue's website and welcome message pitch it as their "NEW home away from home." - Farley Elliott
"I describe the Western-style bar as hosting a country-music “College Country Night” around 11:20 p.m. on November 7 when a gunman opened fire into a crowd of mostly college students—some as young as 18—killing 12 people and injuring many more; the suspect was later confirmed dead, bringing the total fatalities at the scene to 13. Considered to be in one of LA County’s safest neighborhoods, the bar reportedly had potentially hundreds inside dancing when bystanders first heard sounds like firecrackers; witnesses said the shooter, wearing a black hoodie and pants and a scarf to conceal his face, allegedly threw smoke bombs upon entering, prompting patrons to smash windows to escape or hide in bathrooms. When deputies arrived they exchanged fire with the gunman, and a sergeant who was shot later died in the hospital; federal investigators including the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the ATF were reported on the scene. Borderline Bar and Grill originally opened in Malibu in the 1980s and moved to Thousand Oaks in 1993, and its Wednesday country dance nights were popular with students from nearby Moorpark College as well as California State University Channel Islands and Pepperdine University." - Matthew Kang
