I went to Black and Blue with my kids on Sunday. The food was incredible! I am not a seafood girl but was eating lobsters mac and cheese and fried calamari, it was delicious!! Everyone was so happy with their food. The wait staff were all excellent. Very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The manager also checked in to make sure we were all happy with our food. The kitchen was very clean and staff back there was constantly working. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I am so impressed. I highly recommend bringing your family here! Even looks like a great spot for date night! My compliments to the Chef!! 🫡

Came here for the first time for my husband’s 30th birthday and it was absolutely incredible. The steak, the drinks, the service, the atmosphere. They made us feel so special.

A new restaurant in Wellesley town. The food is good as expected, the decorations are aesthetic. The price is a little bit high. It is a good place for friends or families to gather here。

Our dining experience at Blue and Black left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we waited over 20 minutes for our table despite the restaurant being only half full, which set an underwhelming tone for the evening. The food, unfortunately, did not redeem the experience. The steak tartare arrived pre-made and overly saturated in sauce, compromising its freshness. We ordered a Caesar salad with white anchovies, but it was served with red anchovies and lacked flavor. My medium-rare ribeye was cooked nearly to well-done, missing the mark on preparation. My wife’s she-crab soup was unexpectedly sweet, resembling a dessert more than a savory dish, and we left most of it untouched. Regrettably, our waiter did not acknowledge this or inquire about our satisfaction. On a positive note, the oysters were satisfactory, and the sorbet stood out as the highlight of the meal, though it seemed likely sourced externally. At over $150 per person, the value did not match the quality of the experience. We had hoped for a memorable meal, but given the inconsistencies in service and food, we recommend exploring other dining options. Needless to say, we won’t be back..

Black and Blue is a handsome new restaurant with high ceilings, good lighting and lots of comfortable seating. We had an early reservation and the place was already hopping. Menu is classic steakhouse and we found execution was very high quality. An entree of steak Oscar was properly seasoned and cooked exactly to order. As the filets are small it's a dish easy to overcook but they were tender and juicy at medium rare. Scallops entree also came out just right, four big fat scallops over crab asparagus risotto. Very good. A side of hash browns was three big slabs of mashed potato coated and fried. It's classic steakhouse to have large sides. Pricing is in line with competitors. Service was friendly and professional, and the orders came out promptly from the big kitchen visible at the back of the restaurant. There are vegetarian options, and okay for gluten free, too. Children would be fine and the room is definitely handicap accessible. Parking is on the street with a big public lot nearby, too.

Got a reservation for 8 and then decided to change up the plans. Called to see if there was any way to get a table (at 6 on a Saturday night) and the Host said we could not have a dining table but they would hold a table in lounge for us and we took it. This restaurant is beautiful. The hostess was so kind and knew who we were when we walked in. We were celebrating an anniversary and that was acknowledged by the hostess, and multiple servers. They even put a cut little card on the table saying Happy Anniversary. I thought this was really cute and I've never seen that done at a restaurant before. We both got the filet mignon, cooked med well and mid-well and both steaks were cooked to perfect. Sides were French fries (so good) and mashed potatoes (also good I don't even like mashed potatoes). The bread was so good and I got the sweet and spicy margarita, which was amazing. Vanilla bean creme brulee dessert - loved! Can't wait to go back and try something else.

There isn't one thing that I can say went wrong at this restaurant. The service was great, my party enjoyed everything ordered, and we were given a private room. I mixed two meals together for my entree, the red snapper with truffle and sweet potato mash which I had the chef pair with a 5oz filet. For starters we had shrimp cocktail, octopus, crab and lobster cheese dip with pita chips, crab cakes and calamari. Then a round of crab and clam chowder, those two were delicious. For entrees we ordered scallops, lobster, Bass, and Filet, with mashed potatoes, creamy spinach, sauteed mushrooms, creamy sweet corn, and truffle hash browns. Deserts were, lava cake and vanilla ice cream, key lime pie, cheesecake, and chocolate cake. Everything came out perfect tonight.

Everything is perfect at b&b. I love them so much I purchased a black and blue Pony Car! I can’t stop raving and revving. See you again soon.

Yelp
Black and Blue is a nice place! Yummy food, chicken is good, super warm service, and they were quick to handle a small issue when we it came up. Gorgeous atmosphere as well. Give it a try!

Yelp
I have mixed feelings regarding my evening at Black & Blue. First off, the restaurant is established in what use to be a full-service CVS, so the area is very large and open with very tall ceilings. For me, these details called for an ambiance that was not cozy, furniture scale inferior to the size of the room... and again, for me, the ill-porportions felt more like a Wayfair catalog room than an upscale fine dining that I'm use to. I understand the vibe was aimed to be contemporary, yet I think adding tablecloths and window dressings would gain the space some refinement and add warmth. With that said, the open space without any acoustic divisions made for a very loud setting that was not my cup of tea. I was with a group of 4. I started with a glass of Scarpetta Pino Grigio. The calamari was delicious, (yet be aware its on a bed of mayonnaise like sauce and takes away from the appetizer. That was not noted on the menu) and the 14 oz prime rib was (a touch too salty) yet cooked to perfection. The creme brulee was cold and flat. My friends chose the filet mignon, ribeye, and the crab legs. Our sides of mushrooms, mashed potatoes and asparagus were portioned generously, yet the standout was the asparagus. Large, aldente and not soggy! The bill for 4 estimate at $450 was understandable, for the friendly staff and professional demeanor, yet I would rate the food less than excited to return for. Having long established roots in the neighborhood, I wanted to love the night. Maybe another time....

Yelp
Black and blue is kind of how you feel after the dining experience...would go 2.5 if Yelp! 2.0 eve happens. Service is not there. $100 person should not have to hunt down the server, black pepper for your salad...raising my hand..no one there...bottle of wine for when steaks come out....where is our waiter? Happy to upsell though.....decent service and you could convince yourself it's worth it for an almost Boston steakhouse experience. Let's see what the next restaurant is after this one is done.

Yelp
Hadn't tried black and blue yet but went after hearing some good reviews from the Burlington location. The bar is huge and very spacious with a couple of TVs that would be good for grabbing a drink and watching sports. The restaurant is also a really good size with super comfy tables and seats (always a plus). We had excellent service both at the bar and our table on a Sunday evening. The food was delicious and steaks were perfectly cooked. The spacing between appetizers and entrees was also appropriate. Overall very nice location - felt modern and chic and coupled with great service I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We live just outside Boston and can get into the city quickly, but seeing a new, upscale Steak & Seafood joint outside of Boston, closer to home, is exciting! So, we popped into Black & Blue Steak and Crab a few weeks ago to give it a try. Located in downtown Wellesley in a former CVS (I think), we wondered how they could make that space inviting and comfortable. Well, they did. The gross carpeting and drop ceilings are gone, and the space is well laid out and welcoming. Moreover, the decor is thoughtful and tasteful. They must have had a generous budget and a good designer. We prefer eating at the bar, where things are usually more casual, and we can sit side-by-side. The Black & Blue Steak and Crab bar is vast and inviting. While we didn't experience it ourselves, the dining room looks very comfortable, too. Enough about the decor and design. The service at the bar was excellent, and plenty of waitstaff buzzed about the dining room. We also enjoyed our cocktails and food, including the Lobster Bisque (excellent!) as an appetizer. My partner wanted a Dinner Salad with Shrimp (which she enjoyed very much), while I had the Bone-in Ribeye (medium rare). The chefs cooked it exactly the way I asked, and it was delicious! I'm sure we'll be back multiple times.

Kathy G.

Yelp
Gorgeous atmosphere but I was disappointed. No GF menu and they said that the lobster bucatini could be made with gluten-free pasta. There are many interesting and delicious GF pastas out there but instead they substituted with rigatoni which is nothing like bucatini. The sauce and lobster was delicious but I GF rigatoni never works right.

Yelp
We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and it turned out to be the restaurant's anniversary too! Food was delicious and service was wonderful. We had a 5:30pm reservation on Saturday night, we showed up 10 minutes early and they were thankfully able to seat us right away. Right after we sat a waitress came to see us and throughout dinner service was attentive but not overwhelming. We ordered the calamari which was crispy and a little spicy, the red snapper, and ribeye with scallops and a side of Brussels. Everything was delicious. We even got the apple crumble for desert (we don't normally get dessert) and finished every bite. The room is spacious so you don't feel like you're right on top other patrons and it's an elegant yet comfortable ambiance. It is on the pricier side but the food was worth it.

Yelp
We were pumped but fairly meh about our experience. Atmosphere/Ambience: The view from the street in the evening is very chic. Large floor to ceiling windows all the way across the front of the restaurant. It's a deep place and really nice lighting. Certainly appealing and draws you in. Glad they've got an alcove entrance for winter and summer time peak temps for anyone around the tables and waiting area. The furniture was pretty nice but not as primo as the architecture and design would call for. Service: Meh. We had a service manager come by towards the end of the night to ask about our meal. Food came slow than you'd expect, even though they didn't fill the whole restaurant and made folks wait for their res. You get a full view of the kitchen with somewhat blurred glass, and it seems like they were well-staffed. The couple next to us arrived after us and ordered after us yet got their food before us. Definitely some unevenness to things. Our cutlery and my wine glass had noticeable residue that was unappetizing. The wait staff themselves and bar tenders were very nice and pleasant, often times a little confused or unsure of themselves. Maybe a bunch of folks who all are new hires who are also new to the industry? Food: Decent presentation but unfortunately the quality didn't add up. My other's filet was not cut from the typical part of the tenderloin. It wasn't cooked great despite our excitement about the 1700 boilers. My butcher's wagyu steak was also meh and expected better cut here, too. The crab cake appetizer was fairly overcooked and hard and dry on the outside. It wasn't very umami and the seasonings getting somewhat burnt didn't help. The hashbrown was interesting and nice taste and mouth feel. Broccolini was excellent with just enough bite and buttering for the vegetable to stand out. The cauliflower au gratin was not special. Drink: Nice cocktails available. Wine menu is highly touted but found it so so. The by the glass seemed overpriced for the quality, bbbuuuttt they did do a heavy pour with some extra in the carafe so all good. Price: Not as expensive as some steakhouses but still wishing I'd paid more to go somewhere else.

Yelp
The ambiance of this restaurant is so warming and upscale I love the lighting .. the hostess is very professional and kind. However the food is mediocre as it comes. I order the Black Grouper which came to $46 and I swear it looked AND tasted like a $5 tv dinner YIKES! They had more sauce in the bowl than food! The rice was just mush cereal at that point , fish had no flavor at all AND the mix match stale buns were the worst! You can't tell me those buns wasn't left overs that was thrown in there, because why couldn't it be the same and why was it stale ! Honestly this feels like an insult and I want a refund back ! How do you portray your place as upscale ? So it goes to say looks can be deceiving and I won't be going back there again!!

Yelp
The steak tartare was delicious! I would definitely order this again! The fried egg was a good surprise! The steaks were boring and just normal steaks. Nothing spectacular about them. The presentation of the entrees were really nice and the restaurant was very pretty! Great service and ambiance!

Jaclyn K.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant!!! Went to celebrate my dad's birthday and the entire staff was beyond kind and accommodating. The service was excellent and the food was incredible!!!! Every course was fabulous! Fun atmosphere- upscale and stylish yet so comfortable and relaxed at the same time. Had such a wonderful experience and can't wait to go back!!!!

Yelp
New spot in Wellesley. We had dinner there last night and the food was outstanding. The place is visually beautiful with a large bar essentially in the middle of the restaurant. We arrived 25 minutes early for our reservation but the manager Brian noticed that we were standing by the bar and he managed to find us a table. Awesome customer service. Our servers were first rate and extremely attentive without our feeling like they were too intrusive. The cocktails and wines by the glass were perfect but the food is the star. We started with a lobster and crab fondue and I have to say that it was a bit heavy but it was absolutely delicious. I'm talking as good as I've ever had delicious!!!! For our entrees she had the black grouper while I enjoyed the pan seared red snapper with sweet potato hash. Perfectly seasoned on both counts and cooked to perfection. Outstanding in every respect, these folks know how to cook. We enjoyed a bottle of Massolino Barolo. We had no room for dessert but this is our new go to spot in Wellesley. Amazing.

Joe S.

Yelp
Had an excellent meal at Black and Blue. Ribeye was well seasoned. Brussel Sprouts and Mushrooms were very tasty. The service was attentive and not intrusive. Overall, great meal. Would recommend and return again. Good steak houses can be pricey but I thought the value was good.

Yelp
Went to Black and Blue for our anniversary and the staff made our dining experience truly special. We were greeted warmly and our server Tony was just spectacular. We were gifted a sparkling wine toast and ordered the caesar salad and crab fondue to start. The salad was not overly dressed which I really appreciate. The fondue had lots of crab chunks and these delicious deep fried things they called wontons, but they reminded me more of pita chips. For our main course we had the red snapper and the ribeye. Sides were broccolini and the hash browns. Loved the hash browns! They tasted like large, rectangular, upscale tater tots. Yum. The fish and the steak were cooked perfectly. We had to save room for dessert. The dessert menu had a few items I've never seen on a menu so I was intrigued. I ordered the banana cream trifle. It was like crème brûlée and banana pudding had a baby. Very delicious. The restaurant has a large bar area and the dining room is comfy yet booshie with a dash of library chic. Industrial, but warm and inviting at the same time. We had a great experience and highly recommend checking them out!

Mike B.

Yelp
The decor and design of the restaurant was impressive, location in downtown Wellesley can be hectic but on and off street parking is available close by. Server was generally attentive. For the price point the food (entree and sides) were average; 3 of 4 steaks weren't cooked to requested temp, with 2 needing further grill time as they were barely rare. One notable is the restaurant serves the steak on a super heated metal skillet (think iron skillet for fajitas). The only downside it continues to cook the meat while you're eating it, nice novelty but might also make it difficult getting the temp right on your steak. Staff was apologetic and a desert was provided free of charge which was nice but not a meaningful part of the bill. Not sure my experience represents the norm or exception that said there are many options in this category to choose from.

Alan C.

Yelp
The restaurant is fairly new located in the heart of Wellesley Center. The ambiance is nice , but it was quite loud the acoustics does seemed to absorb the sound of the voices and general sound. Place was very busy and the bar was very full! Service was very good! It was hard for us to hear what the waitstaff was saying for the specials that evening! Appetizers were very good. Tuna tartar and waygu meatballs! Small beet salad was fresh! My ribeye steak was a bit over done , i asked for Medium and also one of the order of fish was also overcooked a bit. Dessert was excellent , Creme brulee and chocolate bomb cake! Overall, was a very good experience!

Yelp
We ate there Saturday (10 19 24) evening; or tried to. How do you ruin a simple lobster tail? (Too salty to eat.) Or a chopped salad? (Ridiculously sparse.) Or a crab cake? (Too salty to eat.) Or FRENCH FRIES? (Cold AND too salty to eat) (AND I LOVE SALT ON EVERYTHING!) Or a martini? Watery and not cold enough? ( I ordered it with olives and rocks on the side. It arrived with neither._) I spoke to the "manager" on my way out, and he was unable to even maintain eye contact with me. He DEMONSTRATE TO ME how little he cared. Also, very loud. Steak wasn't bad; asparagus was soggy. Go to Smith and Walenski. They took my entree off the bill, but.... never again. Our waitress, Summer, however, was a delight. Goodnight, Irene.

Yelp
Beautiful setting ... friendly welcome ... prompt service ... delicious steak and seafood! Special thanks to our sever Adam, our helper Molly, and the assistant general manager Andrea. We'll be back soon!

Yelp
Had a great dinner with outstanding service . Tony was a friendly professional server and took care of all our needs !! Highly recommend!

J S.

Yelp
Ambiance is loud but decor appealing. Tony was our server. He was gracious, attentive, knew the menu well and made great suggestions. I ordered the petite filet he had rib eye. My filet arrived on hot plate which made it continue to cook. I ordered medium which when it continued to cook on the plate while it rested a before it was served it was medium well by the time it arrived. Note to self next time I will order the steak on the rarer side. Sides of cauliflower and Mexican street corn were delicious. Will go back. Good local spot. Better than Smith and Wollenskys

Cynthia J.

Yelp
I ordered grouper with a side of creamed spinach. The fish was very overcooked almost tough. It was on a huge bed of a vegetable medley with swipes of a very strong sauce that was not appealing but hard to avoid. The spinach was delicious but too soupy as if the spinach had released too much of its own moisture. I think the whole offering sat under the heat lamps too long. There were only two of us so our order was not long and complicated to coordinate and we both ordered fish. So typical timing of cooking is similar. This restaurant is very noisy and it was difficult to engage in conversation . The best part of the meal was my bourbon...neat with ice on the side...hard to mess that up. I may not come back although this is my second time and my first experience was excellent. Service was terrific. no complaints

jill m.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the salads and desserts! We ordered one of each salad and dessert between us all and were very happy. Plenty of places for steak to go to - not a far of the seasoning but happy they will adjust id you wish. I can't wait to go back and sit at the huge bar and get a salad and dessert!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
A disappointing experience overall. Environment was beautiful and a few people served my table frequently, but food was very mediocre. The bread to start with was not even a bit warm. The sweet whipped butter was tastier than regular butter. Tuna tartare was ok but had way too much pink ginger in it. Crab cake tasted too mushy, raw oysters were not meaty, calamari was overcooked with more arugula than squid, and gulf grouper was chewy. I thought the vegetables accompanying the fish was the best part(artichokes). And the wasabi tobiko for oysters was a good idea.

Yelp
I am currently on a work trip in Boston and my colleagues and I decided to stop by for dinner. We sure are glad we did!!! Excellent service, delicious food, and a beautiful restaurant! The waygu meatballs are the best I've ever had! I cannot wait to return next time I'm in Boston.

Ron M.

Yelp
Totally knocked it out of the park! That "other" fancy steak place around the corner is toast.

Shard I.

Yelp
Waiters very kind and friendly, also the food was amazing, was a little loud but the decor in the area was very interesting and appealing.

Katherine P.

Yelp
We have been waiting to dine at Black & Blue Wellesley with much anticipation as the Burlington location has been one of our go to's for years. We were not disappointed. Love the sleek decor, great seating layout. Upon entry we were greeted by the hostess who immediately sat us for our reservation. The server and her assistant were attentive but not bothering us. The meal from the bread service to the appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and dessert exceeded all of our expectations. We can't wait to go back!!

Husam A.

Yelp
It was our first time there and we loved it. Our servers Shannon and Taran were fantastic, engaging, and attentive. The food was delicious and came out quickly! So excited to have Black & Blue so close to home. We will be back.

Brian F.

Yelp
As a barometer I always use Grille 23 in Boston as my standard comparison. BBSC has a long way to go. Same prices but vastly different experience. My tenderloin was just "OK". Three out of four in our party said the same thing about their entrees. Beautiful decor, nice bar area. On a side note the bartender neglected to add sugar to me Blanton's Old Fashion. At $87 for four pre-dinner cocktails I would expect at minimum a drink made correctly. 3 stars if my drink had been made correctly but have give this wannabe a 2.

Lindsey D.

Yelp
Beautiful & delicious. Tuna tartare was unreal. Snapper was incredible. Zack was so friendly and helpful, wonderful ambiance. Elegant yet cozy. Such a nice addition to town.

James L.

Yelp
I won't be going back. Over priced and limited menu. Some items were served cold and when the server heard that he said they were having a few issues and that he would mention it. That was it. He should have taken the item off the check imo. Ambience is ok but some tables are difficult to slide into because the tables are huge and round. The bar is very nice, but still after a second visit, and a meal at the bar I know that it's not my favorite.

Mickey T.

Yelp
Entree was tasty. Service was amateur despite the pricy menu. Sat single at the bar. Drink order was prompt then waited 15 mins for someone to acknowledge me. I finally flagged a wait server who had walked by me at least a dozen times. No apology, No water, No bread offered. For Boston prices I'd expect better service. Food B+, service C-. When I thanked the waitstaff for the bill I got back in response, "No problem.". OK, then. I doubt this establishment survives

Joe B.

Yelp
It was a last minute decision, so my wife and I ate at the bar tonight. Max provided outstanding service, covering up a couple mistakes that came out from the kitchen (the steaks arrived before the shrimp cocktail; not a huge deal, they came off the check). The food was excellent - the Mexican street corn was great; blue crab on top of a perfectly cooked filet was delicious. Black & Blue is new, so working out some kinks - but the restaurant is lovely (amazing to think it was last a CVS) and a welcome addition to the local dining scene. Big thumbs up!

G G.

Yelp
Had a great experience in Burlington several months ago, except for the very, very loud noise. Thus, we were looking forward to the Wellesley restaurant and its ambience. While the bread and salads were fine, the entrées were not delivered to any expectations and the follow up from the manager, was more in your face than trying to solve the problem. One of the entrées was missing items specifically listed in the menu, but the Manager replied that we were given the wrong menus. This should not be our fault and the pushback was not appreciated. My steak was very rare even though I ordered medium. Another steak was prepared and again it was way too rare. The manager gave us more pushback stating that this has not been an issue in the past. We will not return, which is very sad, but we did not feel welcome at this restaurant trying to celebrate a special occasion with friends. Two out of four entrees bombed and no effort towards resolving.

Jack B.

Yelp
Very well designed restaurant! Bar, overall vibe outstanding . The service was excellent and the cocktails and wine superb. The side dishes all first rate as well. The only miss was the quality on the steak it was cooked perfectly but not a great piece of meat. If they fix the quality issue place could be a home run. Overall factors will get me to revisit but if the quality is not better then I will move on

Noah L.

Yelp
We dined here last week and were very pleased with the food and service. The hosts were friendly, the manager was attentive, and our server was very nice. My steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful -- definitely my favorite part of the meal. We also got the tuna tartare, which tasted fresh and the wagyu meatballs, which are rich but delicious and melt in your mouth. The chicken was cooked well but could have used a pinch more salt. The peanut butter budino was a hit. The restaurant itself is very well decorated.

Isabelle V.

Yelp
I am never one to write a yelp review but I must save the public. I walk up and my first initial thought was what is that smell? It smelled like a mixture of month balls and raw shrimp that's been sitting out in the sun for 8 hours. I walk in and basically get ignored by the host until I said hello. The stench continues but it continues as a stronger moth ball scent. We get seated the waitress was very nice and the oysters were great to start. I even loved the pretzel bread they gave out. Next our entrees came out. Luke warm scallops on "risotto" with asparagus stumps. That I would rate a 5.5/10. Next the show stopper... the creamed spinach. I have never had a worse dish in my life. It's tasted like a condensed milk soup with hints of spinach and PUMPKIN PIE SPICE. We had to send it back (nicely of course) and they actually said the spinach was an "ongoing battle. " I don't know what kind of battle whether it's with the chef who has no taste buds or with peoples digestive tracks absolutely getting annihilated. Yikes. Next we had hope for the molten chocolate bomb lava cake. I thought this would have been great because I have never met a chocolate cake I did not like until..... I met this one. It tasted like they dropped a bad chocolate cake into the dirty dish water pile. The ice cream tastes like it was scooped out of a friendly's tube and the strawberry on the side was butchered so terribly it was almost hard to bite into! Overall experience was a 6/10 the only reason it was as high as a 6 was because of the oysters and the nice wait staff.

Yael S.

Yelp
The first thing you'll note when you walk in is the lovely decor and ambiance. Don't let your eyes deceive you. We had reservations for 5 and were taken to a table set for four. The waiter didn't notice that until it was pointed out to him. When my husband's wine was poured some of it spilled and the waiter didn't bother wiping up the drops. We had to request a new napkin. The oysters arrived at the table with no oyster forks or little spoons for the cocktail sauce and accompanying horseradish. Again, we had to request it. Upon clearing the table of the appetizer dishes, the clearly sophomoric waitress, who clearly had an IQ of a turnip, tried to stack all the dishes and silverware in her arms causing them to slide and fall all over the table knocking a glass of red wine over onto my new white sweater. Next came the entrees. The steaks were just OK, the cauliflower au gratin was undercooked, the dinner rolls were days old and my pound of steamed Alaskan King crab legs which were supposed to be warm were cold. At that point, despite them wanting to give me a new plate of crab legs and said they would pay for cleaning my sweater, I had had enough. Don't waste your money. You're far better off at a fast food joint. One of the managers came over and tried to placate me but I found her to be a bit insincere. BTW, I didn't leave a tip. I only tip for great service and great food. This is the right place for you if you like to piss your money away.
