A Burger and Brunch Bar Expands to Old Town and Four More Openings to Know - Eater Chicago

"The Black Barrel Tavern, the West Loop bar that specializes in 'Americana' (that is, bar food like burgers, roast chicken, and ribs) and brunch, has opened a second location in the former Old Town Social space on North Avenue. The menu is identical to that at the original location, but it will not be serving weekday lunch." - Naomi Waxman

Atmosphere + service on point…we came during the final four (very busy) and had specific requests to modify our dishes because of a garlic allergy which were met immediately. Couldn’t say enough good things about the service, the food was good, between the Nashville chicken sandwich and grilled cheese we left feeling fairly satisfied. Drinks were great, will definitely come back to this neighborhood spot. P.S. they are dog friendly so that is our next adventure to bring our puppy here.

Google
Not a great experience. But I thank the manager George for at least having me reconsider. The server was new and I must say she tried to make things right but it turned out for the worse My nieces and I went for happy hour. The drinks were good. When we went to order the food my niece ordered a grill chicken sandwich, the other one ordered wings - all flats, the next one ordered nachos, and I ordered pizza w/ spinach. What we received was a fried chicken sandwich, wings with flats and drums, nachos with minimum cheese buy alot of chips and pizza with no spinach. Through it all, we let it all slide. Complained but chopped it up as a loss; we ate and was content. So we requested the bill and saw gratuities were added, I let that slide because through it all the server remained humbled. It wasn't until my niece said she gave herself an extra tip. At that time I lost it. It's the principal of the matter. I allowed you to mess up my food, you couldn't get us more cheese and now you tipping yourself. So we called her over, made her aware of the deliberate error, she apologize and removed it. Thanks, now where's the manager so we can let him know what all just transpired. After asking several staff members he finally comes. Again, I am grateful for his professionalism. So I explained to him how the food was ordered incorrectly, how the service was overall ok and I told him to let's discuss this bill. I explained to him that the bill said its a large party? whatis considered as a large party; he said 5 or more, I said do the math it's 4 of us. I said when we went to pay we signed off for $136.00 and the server added an addl tip of 5%, not cool at all. She had the option to close out the bill by pressing no tip and she didn't so technically you just stole $25.00 from us After stating all of this to George, he handle the matter in a respectful manner. What a day. I will return. This is just a friendly reminder to make sure you are getting the customer service you are due, and you are paying attention to receipts.

First time coming here since this was Old Town Social and wow am I glad we came for brunch. The food menu has so many options and it's all so affordable at around $14 per entree. The drink menu is also really fun and also only $14ish a piece. I'd recommend starting with a cocktail each and ordering the burrata which was amazing. (Pic attached) She ordered the crab cake Benedict which I will be ordering next time, and I did the burger. The burger was so good and cheesey and the fries were Cajun spiced and very addicting (pics). Overall they have such a good menu whether you come for brunch or dinner. They have a ton of drinks options for everyone and you will want to try them all. Can't wait for the doors to open in the summer. Food: 5/5 - come hungry! Drinks: 5/5 - be ready to try a ton of different liquors Service: 5/5 - Katie was very friendly

I enjoyed this restaurant. I think it would be a great venue for a birthday gathering. Very spacious. It is a versatile space for a guest DJ, lounging, hanging at the bar, enjoying a meal or a private gathering. Now that summer is here, I’m exciting to return.

Google
Black Barrel Lounge is a great bar and restaurant, to go with friends to watch games of various sports, dancing is always a lot of fun there. It has a wonderful menu, which even includes Brazilian dishes and I can't help but praise the service of the staff, who are always very attentive and kind.

Google
DO NOT DRIVE BY! Stop In! I passed by, drove around the block and found a pkg space. Tavern? Should I order fish at a tavern? YES!!! ordered the spinach salad w/grilled apples, raspberry vinegar dressing, bleu cheese mandarin oranges & salmon. Delicious, because the salmon was freshly grilled and hot and not dried out. The spinach was coated with the dressing and not just thrown on the plate as if just taken out of a bag bought at a store. Ambiance of the outdoor dining area was very pleasant with the beautiful trees lining the sidewalk, providing natural shade and a touch of nature. The service staff was attentive (Katie)and provided great service. Vini, the bar manager also checked in to see how everything was. This kind of service is appreciated!

Google
Went here before work to eat & watch the game. From the time we walked in they were weird, they sat us, took about 10 mins to get service. Server comes, take the order, I give special instructions on food (extra crispy wings). Wings come out nowhere near crispy. My friend came, she ordered her food & I ordered more food (with special instruction add cheese) food came out wrong again & overly cooked. 😑 Send the sandwich back b/c it didnt have cheese. They brought it back with the same cold fries that the sandwich came with. Asked to speak to a manager b/c it was shocking that a manager hadn't table touched considering 2 food items were sent back. Carlos came to 'show face', 'listen' to what we had to say, & remove food. We waited another 20 mins for the check to arrive for it to be incorrect, paid cash, took 5+ mins to get change. End of a long story short, def NOT satisfied with the experience or service i received & even though I enjoy happy hour I might not be back. & LASTLY, they pet friendly in they tight livin quarters. Employees were touching the dog & runnin drinks. 😒

This restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere. Lots of games and a pool table. A list of different pizza flavors. In addition to live game and music broadcasts. A plus for bingo on Tuesdays.

Yelp
Bingo, live music, and karaoke on various days! I always have a blast when I come here with friends and definitely recommend this place for a chill weekday pool night or weekend pregame dinner. Food-wise, I think their menu has good variety. BBQ Chicken Pizza: A little heavy on sauce and not enough chicken for me, but super tasty regardless. The crust is really great - fluffy, crunchy, and chewy. Loaded Sweet Potato Fries: Delicious! Two different cheeses within + bacon and scallions to top it off. I would have liked more scallions. Expresso Martini: Can't go wrong. It's your average expresso martini. Though, I will certainly be back for the rest of the interesting drink menu. Great place. Excited to see people catch on to the fun activities going on at Black Barrel. - AT

Yelp
Excellent place to watch a game because the TV setups are fantastic. However, the food is mind-boggling overpriced, and the drink menu is way too small. My friend got wings ($18) - came with 8 wings, split in two sauces. The garlic Parmesan was literally naked strips of chicken. If there was ever sauce, it evaporated by the time it got to our table. Both were super dry and not tasty. Other friend got a burger - said it was a standard burger. But he enjoyed the sweet potato fries. Fiancé got a personal pizza - it was nice and loaded with toppings and he said it was good! I got a Greek salad with chicken (over $20) - this was a classic Greek salad, so no lettuce. Fine with me except it was tiny. Only a couple cucumber slices, couple peppers, etc. It was well-dressed, though, and came with lots of chicken. We were disappointed in the drink menu, too. The house punch is not as described on the menu - the day we were there was a blue vodka punch, but the menu said it was a pink rum punch. Suggestion to management - just update your menu to say "rotating house punch", and DEFINITELY don't put a photo of the drink when it's not correct. They have standard beers, but no ciders. $7 seltzers but luckily good seltzer flavors. We would come back if we just wanted to watch a game and not eat. I hope they improve their quality (or decrease prices, either works) because like I said, great ambiance for a game day and nice staff.

Yelp
Has been permanently closed for over 3 months but will not alert any platform or their website and they have no signage outside indicating they are closed. There is trash/mail everywhere outside the establishment. Multiple missed inspector checks and bill overdue messages on their windows. There has been smashed windows and vandalism attracted to the establishment and now neighborhood in result of their absence. Lights and power inside have stayed on wasting tons on energy. This is the fault of not only the black barrel owners, but also the land lord of this establishment who is allowing this to go on.

Yelp
So we came here after seeing an excellent M-F 4-7 Happy Hour advertised last fall to find out that they were not offering the deal anymore. However, it's still advertised in the restroom though the staff seems to be completely unaware of any Happy Hour deals. Additionally, the 20oz Guinness was served in a 16oz cup and we had to ask for the additional beer since they seemed to think it was the same as getting served in a glass. We also got a $16 Margarita flatbread that was small and just average in taste. With all that being said, the espresso martinis and sweet potato fries were delicious and they had all the March Madness games on so not a total loss, but not sure we will be coming back here.

Yelp
We stopped by this new location on Black Barrel Tavern on Chicago unofficial st. paddy's day (if you know, you know), and so this may or may not be a completely fair review depending on how much you love Bud Light shamrock decorations. The updated space is great--loft bar vibes with old-school wood beam warehouse ceiling, skylights, and snarky Instagrammable touches like a "Nice Buns" wall. The place feels light and open but is divided into zones, like a fireplace area in front, sport bar in the back and a small side-bar separate from the main rail. Despite the crowding and rowdiness of the holiday, staff were friendly and really attentive. Our servers were checking in regularly, and managers were also out and about checking on folks. Our server struggled with knowing some basic answers however. The menu doesn't have an updated beer tap list, opting for things like "Founders Seasonal." It's way nicer to have updated drink lists, so you don't have to ask the server every time what's available, but it got funnier when our server insisted the "Founders Seasonal" was "Sam Adams." I mean, it's really not. You feel bad, but you know, the server has to understand the basics of the drinks (like what a brewery is). Food was... not very good. Menu looked super appetizing, but sadly nobody at our table even finished their dish. Wings were so dry we just stopped eating them. The grilled cheese sandwich came with a tomato soup that tasted more like marina sauce from a jar? Turkey burger lacked flavor. Pork belly rueben was the worst fail: it was so fatty / gristle that the sandwich was actually inedible. Thankfully the manager was very attentive and kindly and quickly removed the pork belly item from the bill and offered a replacement. Great follow-up keeps this review out of the 2-star territory. Music on our visit was so loud that we had hoarse throats from trying to keep up a conversation. But again, St Patricks Day--so will give that a pass. Will chalk up mediocre food and rough server knowledge to a new place opening up and will be willing to try to a second time. TVs are well-placed to watch a game, so maybe that's the second try.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice here unfortunately our waitress was new so she wasn't sure about the happy hour specials nor knowledgeable of the drink menu..the barrel of punch was our first drink it was terrible I rarely order frozen drinks due to the alcohol being diluted this one said frozen or not but the bartender didn't know how to make it on the rocks so the frozen drink taste like water and juice NO ALCOHOL detected the next drink we ordered was the extra anejo and the bartender put too much roses lime in it to enjoy the tequila next time the waitress needs to be a little more knowledgeable about the liquor aspects so she cudve asked how we wanted our tequila.. the first entree we ordered was the buffalo chicken rolls they were tasty but not my type of Buffalo rolls I like chicken chunks just my preference.. the Korean Bbq lettuce wraps were delicious until we ran into to many hard and fatty pieces of meat the sauce was good..next we had the bone in wings the were flavorless to be the honey garlic and the garlic Parmesan weren't as expected we sent them back because they weren't fully cooked they brought them Back well done which took away from my seasoning oh well I'm a happy hour supporter city wide and regular on the dining and drink side. Im sorry but I won't be back really unpleased and disappointed

Yelp
Lots of fun on a hot Saturday afternoon with the DJ Pauly Caston!!! It's a really cool joint But the doors were open, it was hot and sticky and the flies were terrible. If they get that under control, it will be great. Love the atmosphere and the drinks were great.

Alex B.

Yelp
Amazing! Our drinks seemed low on alcohol and our waiter gave us very generous shots to make up for it. Appetizers were amazing! I'll have to come back for entrees

Yelp
9 bucks for a malört shot? Not a good look...the bands are tight tho. P.S.- New years decorations are still hanging up as of 2/7/2024

Yelp
Just don't do it...I've been here multiple times since it's the only bar within walking distance. The food is hands down the worst food you could ask for. Absolute garbage. I always give places a chance, but I've been disappointed WAY too many times. You should NEVER eat here. Currently sitting at the bar and the service is on par for the typical service. Meaning they barely even look at you. I was trying to wave down the bartender for 20 minutes, but she decided to chat with her friends the whole time instead. The manager realized my frustration and finally got her attention to serve me... this is not the first time this happened. It's simply the culture of a shitty bar. Y'all just opened last year...do better. WTF

Yelp
This place is a fun new spot off of north avenue!! Super spacious and aesthetic. Great for a cocktail or full dinner! The food was really tasty and service was attentive. Will definitely return, it was a fun time.

Yelp
I came here for the singing competition and stayed for a drink and bite to eat. When the food came out I thought I was being punked. These are roughly 2 tiny egg rolls cut in half for $17. Nothing about these were great, extremely underwhelming and for the price alone I'd never. They were greasy, flimsy, lacked flavor and literally 2 rolls split in half for almost $20. This was my drink when the bartender decided (I was finished) and poured my drink out. Not sure why he'd just assume I was finished and not ask first. He redeemed himself by making me another one. The bartenders barely spoke, I had to initiate service they were too consumed with their regular customers. I'm the plus side the space is actually nice. The guy next to me had lamb chops and Brussels sprouts and say they were good but of course he was a regular and frequents the place quite often. The ambience was nice and I like the live music set up. I would visit again but not sure just how soon ;).

Yelp
I went to black barrel this weekend. Great spot!! Good food, outstanding ambience and service. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place at all. The table was not clean, so I asked my waitress if we could clean the table. When we ordered a rum punch bucket on the rocks, we were first told that it was okay, only to later be told that they were out of mixers. There were barely any people in there, and then, 10 minutes later, they did have it, and it would take 10 minutes to produce the drink. I ultimately chose the margarita, which was only passable. It felt like something was missing. My sisters and I ordered mozzarella cheese sticks, which were okay, and chicken nachos, which my sisters were not pleased with. A beyond burger, which was also pretty average; nothing that would make you come back for. It definitely mimicked a frozen patty feel. Also underwhelming were the fish and chips and the chicken gyro. My sisters could not enjoy their nachos or chicken gyros. The meat was too texturized and not fresh. We decided to talk to the manager, and the manager was not nice about taking the items off the bill. We asked about the quality of the chicken and were told that it was chicken gyro meat that they use for both meals. We have never heard of chicken gyro meat served on nachos, and it was not fresh. Please do not waste your money here. The food is not great, the drinks are mediocre, and the manager isn't so nice.

Yelp
It was a meh kinda brunch. I will certainly give this place a try again however maybe for dinner. Brunch was really nothing to rave over. The burrata and chicken bites were good. But that's about it. Pork belly was chewy and felt like a hockey puck on the breakfast grilled cheese. The Chilaquiles were inedible. The Louisiana hot sauce flooded the plate making it ridiculously spicy. The chips were stale and the whole dish seemed more like microwaved nachos. I also ordered fried chicken with it and it never came. Our server was nice but not very attentive or knowledgeable. The space is great. The staff is super friendly. Just not great culinary execution.
google avatar

Rashunda S.

Yelp
I recently dined here for the happy hour and live music, and the ambiance was nice, but the food was so bad!. The chicken on the nachos looked brown, and tasted weird I was repulsed by it. It didn't taste fresh, so I had the manager take it back, and he wanted to know why. I told him the chicken had a weird taste & color it honestly looked old, Then he says it's the chicken they use for their chicken gyro, so right away I knew it's a way for them to save money, but thats wrong to serve customers this low-grade food, hoping we won't know the difference. Serving bad food & cheap drinks, This place is not worth it at all. To the managers of this place Please do better.

Yelp
French community gathered at black barrel for the work cup final on Sunday 12/18 at 9.00 am and they did a great job serving all of us while we were shouting for victory. TVs everywhere, great atmosphere, drinks and food perfect for watching the game. France lost but this has nothing to do with Black Barrel Tavern!

Charlee O.

Yelp
According to this app, they should be open until 2am and the front door is locked. They are very much closed while hours posted state they are open. You should have your business hours correct on all your social media platforms so your guests don't waste their time and energy making a trip to a closed restaurant.

Amanda M.

Yelp
This place seems to be confused on who or what it wants to be. When it first opened I had a great tuna entree and it mirrored the West Loop location. Every time I come now the food menu has completely changed and not for the better. Food is average at best and the decor is just tacky. Random neon everywhere, a lounge in front that's now a pool table, high top tables replaced with short tables with strange diner looking red chairs. It needs to go back to being closer to what the west loop location offers.

Yelp
Came one day after work (mid-week) and sat on the patio with a friend of mine. The server seemed annoyed that we were even there (the place had maybe 4 or 5 total tables with customers - inside and out). She also rushed us on ordering drinks the second we sat down - cocktails were okay, but not great. Ordered the egg rolls and chicken wings - both were not good. Poor service, mediocre drinks, and bad food. It's a shame.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
It's fine. The food is ok, but everything is really overpriced. The staff are great and friendly, attentive. They charge $14 for a glass of kim crawford haha. a bottle is $12. The chicken pita is really good, salad with shrimp is good. The brick chicken, depends on who cooks it. Varies each time I have been there.

Yelp
We came for the Cinco De Mayo experience at Black Barrel Live- Old Town. When we arrived for our 8:45pm reservation we waited 15 min. before being helped. The host seemed overwhelmed dealing with the crowd that night. He told us the experience ended at 9pm. However, this was not disclosed anywhere on their website or via Open Table. In fact, if you went to make a reservation on Open Table it was showing you could still book for this experience well into 10:45pm. This was very disappointing because they sat us and said they'd honor our reservation for the experience that includes bottomless margaritas and taco bar. However, after being sat and waiting quite a while for our server to make it over to us (table next to us got up and left to give you an idea of service wait time) we were given one round of margaritas. After waiting awhile for the second round we were told they ran out of margaritas so we only got one and a half drinks total from what was advertised as bottomless. While this was happening we never had a manager come to our table to check on us. We only saw the manager (shorter guy with 5 o'clock shadow in a Hawaiian T-shirt and cap) go up to the bar and berate the two bartenders that were responsible for making drinks for the whole place that on a night like this should have been better staffed. Our overwhelmed server was able to give us a round of shot as an apology, but if I were you I'd stay far away from this establishment. Misleading business practices left us feeling jipped, mislead, and uncomfortable for the bartenders and servers. Also want to note this isn't my first time here. We came for drinks and French fries once before, and the fries were soggy and drinks underwhelming for the price. Wanted to give this place a second chance, but I should have known better when you can't even get french fries right.

Yelp
Great food and service. Place was busy on a Saturday night. Vodka pasta was delicious. Had live music that was a great performance.

Yelp
I know that this location is very new, but this is also their second location so this should already have a sense of a restaurant operation. I came to visit a few weeks after their opening and I was originally impressed with the space, vibe, and environment. My positive opinion quickly dissipated when we were squeezed into a four-top table wedged between a wall and two feet from every other table. There was hardly any space for us to squeeze into our chairs let alone the struggle of the staff with drinks and plates. I'm sure they are trying to get as many people into this bar during a pandemic but this was ridiculous. After we sat down, we waited at least 20 minutes for anyone to come to get our drink order. It wasn't until the host walked by our table as he was seating other guests that he asked why we hadn't ordered a drink. He couldn't believe that no one had come by so he took our order, but as he walked away, our waitress all of sudden showed up. I will admit that the drinks were delicious even when they gave me the incorrect drink the first time. Now let's talk food. We ended up only ordering appetizers, 4 different ones to be exact - Poutine, Baked Meatballs, Homemade Egg Rolls, and the Burrata. The only thing I would order again is the Poutine and egg rolls. The meatballs themselves were bland with absolutely no flavor. This just wasn't a great experience and I don't think I need to come back even though it's in such a convenient location.

Yelp
Went here for dinner. Had two different cocktails. First martini wasn't great but the old fashioned was pretty solid. Also had a burger which I enjoyed. The drink service was quite slow tho which was annoying. Food came out super quick

Andrew J.

Yelp
Do not come here. Our server manipulated our tip, a $6 tip on a $37.53 bill, by adding a 5 in front of the 6 and changing $37.53 to $87.53. When we called to notify management, the manager was rude and defensive, and refused to do anything to help. He told me I tipped $56 because that is what was written on the receipt, and if I regretted tipping such a generous amount I should take it up with my credit card company. I did not get the names of our female server or the male manager we spoke with, but be sure you keep your own receipt if you choose to dine here in case they try to scam you.

Yelp
Nice place. I like the recent re-brand to promoting them offering live music, unfortunately, it wasn't playing while I was there around 7PM. The food was good (I had a burger) and service was prompt. The layout is strange, it's more similar to a concert venue than a restaurant. I wasn't blown away by Black Barrel Tavern, but I will be back to see how the music changes the ambiance.

Yelp
Best spot to come and drink, eat and enjoy your night with live music and the lovely energy from the people around.

Yelp
i went here with my boyfriend before seeing a movie at new city. they have a ton of food options. while it's a bit noisy for the our liking, it's definitely a fun place for watching games and people who enjoy a lively atmosphere. i ordered the turkey burger and it was delicious! my boyfriend chicken parm sandwich and it was pretty good. this is the second time there. the first time, service was slow. maybe due to halloween. this time, it seemed better. there was a mishap where the person who picks up the plates accidentally spilled ranch dressing all over my sweater and jacket. it is pretty minor, but we had to go to the movies and it smelled so bad and was difficult to get out (not to mention i hate ranch eww!!!) he was sooooo apologetic. i felt bad because accidents happen. they were busy. the manager or assistant manager came and was sorry for the mishap. he offered a free drink, but that didn't seem right. i wasn't too happy about that. they did bring warm towels, which was nice. he offered dry cleaning, but that wouldn't work for what i was wearing. at the end of it all, it seemed minor, but i was just hoping for a discount. that's all. nothing big. however, we received our check and it was on the house! i didn't expect that and that is exactly the type of customer service that restaurants should have. it's what keeps people coming. i appreciated that. ps our server was so sweet. never had any issues with them. they have such a difficult job.

Roz S.

Yelp
Cheap drinks (the glass may or may not be dirty)....horrible food. Please don't get the buffalo egg rolls. The best thing on the menu are fries. Just come here for drinks.

Emily K.

Yelp
Great classic bar environment with an impressively extensive menu and alot of cute touches to make my Instagram heart happy. Went with a burger and was not disappointed, friends raved about the tuna club and say they get it every time! I sat toward the entrance and there were a ton of large TVs. Cocktail menu with a lot of fun options, we were all happy with our variety of choices - espresso martini was great.

Yelp
Great spot! Needed a place to chill before a baptism across the street and found this after a quick search. I still only eat outside because I am a safe and smart person, so I called to confirm they had outdoor seating, which they did. It had rained the night prior and we got there near their opening at 11 on a Sunday, so they wiped down the tables for us. Very courteous service. Large portions. I had the Sangria, which was a bit too sweet for my taste, so I would pick something else - only had time for one beverage before we had to get to the church on time ;) I had the Beyond Burger which they did leave off the sauce for me as I needed it vegan - they still served with a bun even though I requested no bun, but that is easy to remove. Partner had the burrata dish with the garlic toast and it was GIGANTIC. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to finish it all but I was really satisfied with the portions and they filled me up! Would come back in Old Town.

Yelp
We were on our way home and saw this spot so stopped in for dinner to give it a go as I noticed it was a new business. The décor is cute and welcoming, the music was not good, like techno /house beats on a Monday evening with very little customers, def not the vibe of music you would expect. The staff were nice too but the food and drinks where were it went bad. My Partner ordered a Rye Old Fashion style Cocktail. He liked it a lot so he got another one, they refilled his used glass and didn't even refresh the ice?? The place was dead and there were many unused glasses behind the bar so I have no idea why they did this? For a $16 cocktail you better give me a fresh glass, that is just ridiculous. I was looking for comfort food so I ordered the Grilled cheese and tomato soup. The Tomato Soup was more like a chili minus the beans and ground beef, it was spicy and didn't have flavor just spice. The Grilled Cheese was soggy and very much like one I would make at home. The menu described it as a Fancy grilled cheese but it was below basic. My Partner got the Nashville Chicken Sandwich he said it fine nothing special, it was spicy but again no flavor just spicy. I wish the food / drink situation was a better experience, or I hope it's just bc they are new and getting a hang of things? I do like the space and the vibe for a sports bar but again minus the bad music for a Monday evening.

Yelp
Well we love the one that opened up in old town! The drinks and good and so is the food. The restaurant has a huge outdoor area. The highlight of the night was DJ Skyline spinning all the hits. It kept us there drinking until after midnight. I hope they give him a residency on Friday night because we need a cool place to go in old town. Great place!

Yelp
I love their food. The margaritas are great. I heard that even the dessert is made from scratch. The burger is my favorite. I like the ambiance, the music. For brunch or dinner, it's a really cool place.

Yelp
Visited for dinner. I had the pork chop and it was excellent. My wife had the salmon (also very good). The best was the Tres Leches Cake! Black Barrel is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
We sat down and no one came up to us after 25 minutes. After 20 minutes we asked the hostess if we could get someone to come to our table and still no one came. The manager was standing at the bar just watching this happen and did nothing

Yelp
Great location, great service, great atmosphere. The food is literally tasteless. 200 menu items = mediocre for everything. Would have loved to give a good review but food quality stunk.

Yelp
Asked hostess for outdoor table. Sat down for 15+ minutes and no one came to take even a drink order. Would never go back

Yelp
There was an event and I had some food at the bar. I went to the bathroom and to speak to someone for a few minutes and I was followed around and harassed about paying my tab. I left my coat on the bar stool, so they would know I'm not leaving, so I am not sure if they just have bad customer service or are racist. I liked the app I tried, but don't know if I'd feel comfortable patronizing them again.

Yelp
We recently moved to the area from Lakeview and saw this place was just a couple blocks from our apartment, so we decided to try it out. The patio is really cute with lights and lots of plants, and inside seemed to have more of a young crowd having drinks and the music was pretty loud. At first, we sat without anyone coming to our table for a good 15-20 minutes, but eventually the server came over and apologized, letting us know there had been a mixup at the host stand. Once we had our server, everything was super quick and the service was excellent - the server came to check on us just the right amount of times, the food came out really fast, and the staff was quick to bus empty dishes off the table. We started with the burrata which came with toasted bread, tomatoes and pesto and was really delicious. I had the burger which was really good, and we also tried the Brussels sprouts to share. All in all, our experience here was really great for a busy Saturday night, and I definitely want to come back to have drinks inside.

Yelp
Great place and great environment! Great for brunch and watching any live sports game. Black Barrel really set up the place great to watch the France v Argentina Final. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
We had a great time at our local spot. To our surprise DJ skyline was spinning and we had a ball. He kept the party going until after 1am. We had a ball. We will definitely be back on a Friday. Old town just got better!

Yelp
Great food in a great location/atmosphere! Everyone was super nice and the place has lots of natural light even on cloudy days
