Black Bass

"A smart vibe, a hip interior and a sweeping view of the lake set the scene for bistronomic recipes scattered with creative, exotic accents: ceviche of croaker with coriander and jalapenos; barbecued organic seabass with a harissa of raspberries and salad of green beans; spaghetti with toasted breadcrumbs, lemon and basil…" - Michelin Inspector

"France’s Lake Annecy is considered the cleanest lake in Europe, the beneficiary of stringent environmental regulations dating back decades. Guests of the Black Bass Hotel in Sevrier benefit as well, with panoramic views of the peri-alpine waters immortalized by Paul Cézanne. A modernist, ’80s-era reimagining of a chalet-style lodge, Black Bass’s elegance shines with understated, clean-lined rooms with balcony views and blonde wood accents. A father-and-son duo of executive chefs, Bernard and Brice Collon, offer exquisite fine dining in Black Bass’s dining room, while a secondary bistro offers classic French cuisine in a more casual atmosphere, befitting the end of a long day hiking, snorkeling or exploring the winding bike paths around Annecy." - Tablet Hotels

My (now fiancée) and I visited the Black Bass Hotel in Annecy this August for our engagement holiday, and it couldn’t have been more special. The location was perfect, with stunning mountain views and easy access to the lake. Our suite was spotlessly clean, beautifully designed and very comfortable. The champagne on arrival was also a nice touch. The swimming pool was ideal for cooling off on hot afternoons. We only dined at the restaurant on our final night (though we enjoyed cocktails and snacks throughout our stay) and the food was excellent. The prices were not unreasonable considering the quality and much of the menu being sourced locally. The staff were always very friendly and accommodating. The only minor downside was that the e-bike hire felt a little expensive at 20 euro for two hours- and you'll really need these for longer if you want to explore the villages around the lake. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that we’ve already recommended to friends and family. We’ll always remember our engagement on the lake, and the Black Bass Hotel will remain a very special place for us— I’m sure we’ll return one day! Thank you :)

When you book a 5 star hotel you expect the best. Whilst the hotel grounds and outdoor pool are lovely giving a great view of the lake and easy access to the cycle lane the hotel did not live up to our expectations. As the walk into Annecy is 50 minutes we asked about the bus and was advised by reception not to drive as it is too busy and the bus will sit in traffic. They suggested using their their boat, a car they could organise or their bikes which were available to hire, all at a cost. We drove into Annecy each evening and parked opposite The Pelican hotel for 3 euros with no problem at all. Despite spending a lot of money for our 6 night stay you were expected to pay extra for the paddle board they had available, extra for e bike hire and their was a charge for everything in the mini bar (surely these could be provided free to guests paying a lot of money. In the first night I was brought the wrong meal from the restaurant and in the second night was told they were out of oysters and would Parmesan cheese be an adequate substitute. A pina colada which we ordered by the pool|Was the worst example of this drink I have ever tasted. Shower gel ran out in the shower and we had to ask for it to be topped up. Toilet rolls were supplied at what appeared to be the absolute minimum required. Some staff walked past you without offering any acknowledgement. Lots of things missing in our opinion to class this hotel as a five star hotel. Very over priced and when the bill was paid the receipt in my banking app came through as Holiday Inn. The staff could offer no more explanation for this but the hotel definitely seemed more like a Holiday Inn hotel rather than a luxury 5 star property.

A lovely hotel. Visited off season so was fairly quiet but the staff are amazing and could not do enough to make the stay memorable. Wonderful views, location, food, drinks and service. See you again.

The Hotel has a nice location with a wonderful view towards the lake. Of course the rooms are nice and clean also available for 3-4 Persons. Furthermore the pool are is refreshing and relaxing with also a view towards the lake. Sadly the kitchen in the Restaurant was not as well as one might expect because the dishes did look nice but they weren’t nutritive at all and there are no vegetarian options or salads served at dinner.

It does not provide an experience you would expect from a 5 star hotel and here are the reasons why: 1. There was no hair dryer in the room. When I asked for one I got a broken one. So I ended up with wet hair throughout the day. 2. Since we were arriving late I called to ask for a baby cot to be set up in our room. I also wrote a comment when booking. However when we arrived there was no baby cot set up. 3. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The waiter was not listening to our wine preferences at all. When we ordered a bottle and asked to keep it for the next day, they lost it. 4. The level of English was moderate. 5. We had to carry our own luggage to the Room and to the car. 6. Even though the outdoor pool was supposed to be open, the gates to the pool were locked 7. There was never someone at the spa, so we also had to go up to the reception when we had a question about treatments or the spa facilities 8. Nobody paid attention to us, poor service overall Definitely not recommended to stay here if you are looking for a 5 star hotel service
