Well, last night's celebratory dinner was a total disappointment. where do I begin?
I made a reservation for four(4) to celebrate our dear friend's 80 something birthday with a very clear request for a small cake or desert with a festive candle.
"No problem, Sir, we'll take care of it!"
What our dear friend got was a small chocolate favor and a tiny liquor glass filled with whipped cream and a candle. All this for $400! Such a deal!
About the menu...The menu is now very limited with prices substantially higher than last year. Still no table clothes, fine china, or silverware. We were advised that the "sticky table" was "due to a new alcohol cleaning solution" by our waitress. How about re-cleaning the table without a dopey excuse? And, when you drop the silverware, custom should dictate that you replace it with a clean implement, not merely wipe it clean with your apron. Am I waxing too critical?
If the Black Bass Hotel, recently a very good restaurant, is going to charge William Penn Inn, Washington Crossing prices, average entree' around $40.00, ergo, the menu, service, ambiance, cleanliness (basic, yes?) et al ought to be comparable, right?
And, a port wine glass filled with whipped cream and a candle? Are you kidding me?
What's next...Restroom Attendants ransoming paper towels and mints for tips?
And, did I politely address my concerns with the taciturn lady manager? You betcha...Her indifference was hardly indicative of a four or five star establishment. "That's just what we do here," she responded in a mildly irritated voice without eye contact or any semblance of even feigned concern. The valet parking attendant was more attentive and gracious. They should
immediately put him in-charge of "Customer Service" at this place.
Friends, if you want a four or five star local experience and do not wish to suffer a bad case of "Diner's Remorse," I would counsel you to avoid this place for a "positive memorable experience."
William Penn Inn or Washington Crossing continue to strive for high culinary and dining standards.
Not unlike that bag of potato chips that used to contain 14 oz. for $2.99 and now has 8 oz. for $4.99; this is what you now get as the "Black Bust!" A higher price
with a limited one page menu and a sticky table for four! No charge for the whipped cream, however!
