Enjoy a whiskey cocktail or glass of chardonnay with your starters, such as chilled jumbo shrimp cocktail and burrata with roasted cherry tomatoes on grilled focaccia bread, before you move on to your entree — the chicken and shrimp jambalaya, seared chicken breast, and the Charleston Meeting Street Crab, a creamy au gratin dish, are some standout choices." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Delicious lunch with a view at Black Bass Hotel! We stopped in for lunch at the Black Bass Hotel and were genuinely impressed! The setting is absolutely beautiful — with a peaceful, elegant atmosphere and stunning views of the lake. The food was outstanding: fresh ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and perfectly balanced flavors. Every dish we ordered was memorable, especially the locally inspired specialties. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and we felt truly welcomed from the moment we arrived. Even though we didn’t stay overnight, the experience made a lasting impression — the hotel itself is charming and stylish, and we’ll definitely consider coming back for a full stay. Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for a refined yet relaxed dining experience.

Black Bass is a charming hotel and restaurant with a great view of the Delaware River, both indoors and outdoors. My husband and I went for lunch and enjoyed our meal outside on the awning covered patio. We shared the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were a nice size and fresh. After our appetizer, we had the Potato Gnocchi with Vegetables and the Salmon and Avocado BLT on Whole Wheat Bread. Both dishes were plentiful and delicious! Our waitress was friendly and she did not rush us through our meal. It was a very hot day and the staff made sure our water glasses were constantly filled. On our way out, the waitress noticed were we admiring the tavern located downstairs. She took the time to provide us with a little history of the tavern, which I truly appreciated. Overall our experience at Black Bass was A++. We will be back!

Google
Location and view of river in the dining room or deck are fantastic. The tavern room and historic bar is cozy and charming. Cocktails are strong pours. Menu is good, but light on non-meat dishes and has not changed significantly in years. New options would put the experience over the top.

Google
It's rare you find a restaurant that excels in all three areas of view, food and service. This one does. We were in town for a wedding and met a friend for lunch here. The views over the river are spectacular. We were seated at a window table but all the tables had the same view. Our server was Karen and she was an absolute delight. She recommended dishes, answered questions about ingredients and was warm and friendly. The food was delicious, the menu was varied and included great specials. Free valet parking included.

Google
I’m only reviewing the restaurant. I did not stay at the hotel. As you’ll see from the picture, the restaurant sits right by the water. That view alone is worth five star review no matter what the food is. However, when I came they did not have any available tables in that gorgeous space. They have another small room with four tables and no view of the water. I was fine with it because I was hungry. I just feel like they should offer a discount. The meal experience in that room is definitely not worth the money of that in the other room. So I highly recommend that you make a reservation for the other room or it’s not worth coming at all. The food was good but not excellant. As you’ll see from the lobster gratin was runny and the salad was not memorable. The service was lovely though.

Google
Truly no words to describe how thrilled my husband and I were getting married at The Black Bass last week. The rooms are so dreamy, the suites are perfect for the bridal party to get ready in, the menu was delicious and the service was topnotch. Fiona was so enjoyable to work with, very thorough and attentive to our needs throughout the entire process and especially on our wedding day and the rest of the staff was so kind and helpful as well. Sue was amazing and really made us feel special all night. Our out of town guests were blown away by the gorgeous views and we were overall so happy with how everything turned out! Highly recommend!

Google
My partner and I recently stayed here. The accommodations were wonderful - a well appointed, beautifully decorated room that featured a gorgeous view of the Delaware. Our meal was also excellent. The kitchen staff deserve all the credit in the world for delivering a straightforward but perfectly executed meal to the two of us. The double bone pork chop was perfectly prepared and the best I had in years The two significant sore spots were the bar and the wait staff. The bartenders bickered about side work. The old fashioned was aggressively shaken with tiny ice cubes that watered down the drink. There was just an overall terrible mood that hung over the bar and made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Dinner service was better, but not by much. Our server delivered our drinks, took our dinner order, then disappeared for half an hour. Again, fortunately, the meal itself was wonderful I can see us returning, but management needs to make some decisions. Likewise, the bartenders need to decide whether they actually care about delivering a positive experience, or if they would be happier slinging pints at airport bar. I suspect they would be happier at the latter.

Google
Booked the Fieldstone suite and we were catfished in a good way. The room was so nice and beyond our expectations! We were in town for a wedding and saw rooms at 2 other hotels and ours, by far, was the best. Will definitely be staying again in the future! The restaurant is also incredible and has a great view of the river.

Yelp
This place doesn't pack people in and therefore you have to plan a couple weeks in advance to reserve a table. But it's well worth it. It's a great place with character nestled along the river. It's dark wood and uneven floors that bring this establishment to life. We started things off with cocktails that were well made and not light on the spirits. Our server Sue was delightful and pleasant throughout. We chose the squid appetizer which had a great spicy vinegar side that intentionally brought the flavors to life. I had the swordfish special which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. My wife had the short rib which also was delicious. We ended the evening with a slice of tirimisu and some coffee. WARNING! This tirimisu was a showstopper. Don't leave without trying it. You won't be disappointed! We had a great experience and look forward to coming back in the summer to eat outside.

Yelp
What self-respecting, expensive restaurant seats a party of seven in an outlier room at a makeshift, dented wooden board (serving as a table) just two feet away from the restroom door? Where people practically brush up against you on their way to the facilities. The same area where servers dump trays of dirty dishes after bussing tables, before they're finally taken to the kitchen. Not only were we seated unappetizingly close to the restroom, but our "table" was so narrow that we couldn't sit across from each other without our knees touching. When we politely asked to move to the available standard table just five feet away, we were told it was "reserved." How was that reservation different from ours? Is there a secret hierarchy of reservations we weren't made aware of? That table sat empty for 45 minutes into our already disappointing dining experience before anyone from that party even showed up. This place prides itself on its "unmatchable river views", but conveniently forgets to mention that the view is only available to smaller parties, while larger groups are ushered past it into a windowless bussing area. At the very least, this should be clearly communicated when making a reservation. We highly recommend the restaurant be upfront about its seating arrangements, especially for larger groups, so people aren't placed in uncomfortable, awkward spots, feeling ripped off. And for heaven's sake, get rid of that improvised wooden board by the bathroom serving as a table. Show your establishment and your guests the respect they deserve, and stop making bottom-line focused decisions.

Yelp
Arrived at 1239pm for a lunch with another couple. We have been here before. Ambiance is wonderful looking out on the Delaware late winter. We were seated by the windows facing the river.we ordered a bottle of Gruner Veltliner from the wine list but they were out so we switched to a French Sauvignon Blanc . The wine was great. Service was a bit slow but attentive and friendly once it picked up. I got the Scallops for a starter and the salmon main. The scallops were excellent the salmon was good but a bit dry as I made my way through it. We would return. Food "b", service "b", ambiance "a", value"a". Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
George Washington didn't sleep here... but you should definitely visit for a meal, if not an overnight stay. During the Revolutionary War, the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army was turned away by the British loyalist innkeeper. Today, the historic (and allegedly haunted) Black Bass Hotel offers both comfortable lodging in a handful of comfortable, well-maintained guest rooms and locally-inspired cuisine served by friendly and knowledgeable staff in its moderately-upscale restaurant. The restaurant features a warm and welcoming ambiance and the view of the Delaware River and the Lumberville-Raven Rock pedestrian bridge is phenomenal whether you're sitting right at the windows or on the other side of the narrow dining room. The menu offers something for everyone - including plenty of gluten-free options. On our recent visit on a Saturday afternoon, my dining companion and I both ordered off the Lunch menu. We both started with a bowl of the Split Pea Soup ($9), which was very tasty once we added a dash of salt and quite filling. I opted for the Porchetta Sandwich ($18), a generous portion of tender roasted pork with rosemary garlic mayonnaise, and broccoli rabe on a ciabatta loaf with a side of french fries. My dining companion opted for the Pastrami Seasoned Smoked Salmon Sandwich ($18), a filling portion of smoked salmon with whole grain mustard sauce, gruyère cheese, and coleslaw on marbled rye toast and served with a side of fresh onion rings. We both thought our choices were very tasty, satisfying portions (so much so that each of us brought half of our sandwiches home for the next day), and reasonably priced given the environment. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. Pro Tip: The Black Bass Hotel offers free parking in either Pennsylvania in the gravel parking lot just across PA State Route 32 or New Jersey in the Bull's Island Recreation Area, located just across the Delaware on the other side of the Lumberville-Raven Rock pedestrian bridge that is adjacent to the hotel.

Yelp
Service was very good and very friendly server. Appetizers were delicious as were our entrees. Wonderful rustic old building on the river bank with plenty of windows and outside seating. Small but nicely varied menu with plenty of fish options. I will certainly be back when the weather improves. The steak and lamb chops were also great.

Yelp
Time to update my review here. Unfortunately we weren't treated well so we left after drinks. I made a reservation for 3 and requested an outside table and they accepted it. Upon arrival the host said that there were no tables outside even though we could see there were plenty. So we sat inside but after drinks decided we no longer wanted to eat there. The server pulled a face and went and complained to the host who came over and tried to berate us for booking a brunch table and not eating. Nowhere in the booking process did it say the table was a brunch table. In my opinion it is always the customers right to decide not to eat and pay the drinks bill and leave for any reason. I will no longer be coming here or recommending this establishment to my friends and work colleagues for business dinners. Original review. Lovely place to stop and grab a drink in the afternoon after walking along the canal/river. There are high tops on the balcony where you can enjoy a drink with a great view of the river. If you want to eat here then make a reservation on the weekend as they get extremely busy. We've eaten here in the past and while it is good it's not great. Hostesses are very curt, not quite rude but definitely not friendly, server was very friendly and attentive. Martinis were well made and I had a draught bass ale .

Yelp
Had the most amazing lunch on Labor Day at the Black Bass! I know tons of people stay at this little historic hotel, but the restaurant is even better! Looking over the water as you eat is always a huge plus in my book and every single thing we ate was SO good!! The pretzel bun burger was one of my favorites, but the goat cheese salad stole the show, even with little ingredients it had so so much flavor. I tried something new and got the carrot cake bomb, and I was delightfully surprised at how moist it was! The staff was great, view was great, and food was great!

Yelp
The views are always so pretty here, the building is so quaint, so many interesting things to see and the staff are always so welcoming. I've eaten here before, in the fall, menu was much different (was also a few years ago) Yesterday we brought family from Scotland (who had come last year with my parents also & enjoyed their meal, so we came again with one other visitor) Service was very good. Drinks were brought promptly. App's were good, except the wonton's on the shrimp were quite dark and crispy, everyone loved the pork belly, I would have liked it slightly crispier. Our meals came directly after appetizers, some weren't off of the table yet. Everyone's looked great, except mine, did I order wrong? I was flip flopping between steak & fish then chicken & scallops then between which fish. The Barramundi which was almond crusted was super pale and tasteless, however the crispy cauliflower tasted great as did the Thai veggies. Everyone else loved their meals. I could have sent mine back but the vegetables and 1/2 of the fish was good enough. The portions (except for the pork and chicken) didn't reflect the prices but you're paying for the view also. I'd still go back. I'd just chose differently!

Yelp
Outstanding from start to finish. Our Airbnb host recommended this restaurant and so glad he did. Great decor, professional staff all around. Drinks, appetizers, main course and desserts were excellent. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Real nice views of the river, excellent food, and 4 star service. I have been here a couple of times and our meals have been excellent. The place is busy but you can use open table for reservations. This is my mom's favorite spot and she is 40 min away in Langhorne.

Yelp
We had a 10 person Family gathering in their Private dining room overlooking the Delaware River to celebrate our Wedding. Our server "Liz", was super attentive and friendly. Everyone loved their choices, mine was the double bone pork chop that was perfectly cooked, tender and delicious. Their wine offerings were perfect and deserts were amazing. Thanks to the staff, everything was memorable.

Yelp
Been here several times over the past two years, always enjoy eating at the bar with a fantastic Old Fashion. Forgot what a gem this was and happy to back into our rotation. Very interesting history, especially the 2 large wooden dining tables; and they have " a haunted history " if you are into that type of thing. Food is amazing! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant. I wish I had a perfect experience, but the server Karen was magnificent when my first dish was a slow roasted short rib... it came out very dry. I had to reorder. The beet salad was very delicious. I think it could have been elevated with some local goat cheese and pumpkin seeds. But it was very good. My friend had the cheddar cheeseburger which was absolutely juicy. My second dish that I ordered was lamb chops, which they cooked absolutely perfect and I was very happy with the seasoning and the overall dish. I thought that the wine prices were very reasonable and the one that I had ordered was a Bordeaux blend. Very very good.

Yelp
Went to Sunday brunch today. Nice setting by the window, very good service. The food however was very bland.

Yelp
We went to Black Bass for lunch today. Service and food was amazing The drive was fun as well being next to Delaware River. They have complimentary valet parking as well. I had peach salad appetizer and salmon filet entree It as absolutely delicious. Our waitress checked on us the whole meal. Clam chowder best ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant to all

Yelp
We love the Black Bass hotel and make it a point to make the 50 minute drive here a couple times a year. Which by the way, the drive here from the Lehigh Valley is gorgeous. To start, they have complementary valet which is lovely. The building is old and historic and overlooks the Delaware River which is beautiful. In the summer they have a beautiful outdoor patio you can sit on. There's also a bridge right there you can walk across to a State Park on the NJ side of the river. Be sure to ask for a seat by the window! The food here has always been consistently good. My mom and I are both gluten free and they have plenty if options marked on the menu and offer GF bread and cracker substitutes, which we appreciate. We've been here for both dinner and brunch and everything has always been very good from steak, fish, omelets, charcuterie boards and more. They also make decent cocktails and have some good wine choices. The only thing I can't speak to is dessert but I'm sure they have some great ones!

Yelp
What an exceedingly beautiful venue. Such a treat to have brunch overlooking the river from these beautiful windows. Mezze platter for appetizer and omelette for brekkie. Everything was exceedingly lovely top to bottom, inside and out . And I got to look around a little too on the inside... Such a wonderful treasure, great for a date.

Yelp
Always delicious. The tavern is cozy and outdoor dining by the river is beautiful. You might even hear a ghost story from the bartender downstairs. Prices are upper end, but great spot for a special night out.

Yelp
We've had great meals here before but last night the food was very disappointing...On the positive side, we enjoyed having a private room with a view of the river for our group, and the servers and waitress were very pleasant and attentive. Also the food and drinks came out in a timely manner. Across the board, our group was disappointed in their meals. The kids' sliders came out with buns that were so hard and dry we had to send them back to get new bread as they were inedible. The "crispy" pork belly was flavorless and not remotely crispy. I had to douse it in salt to eat it. Probably worst of all was the braised short rib which two of us ordered- in both cases it was dry and utterly flavorless which I've never experienced with a dish that is kind of hard to mess up. Neither of us could eat it. The server was very apologetic and offered us a replacement meal which I appreciated but by that point our appetite was gone. Lastly I found the dessert menu to be pretty unimaginative but that's a fairly minor point. I am very surprised that the manager didn't pay us a visit, especially with such a large group. I hope this was just an off night and not a trend, but if it is they need to hire a new chef and overhaul the menu.

Yelp
Black Bass is my favorite restaurant. I would eat here every day if I could. The food is always fresh and well cooked. The atmosphere and service make the whole experience even better. An absolute gem.

Yelp
We were looking for a night away from home to relax and found the Black Bass Hotel on yelp. The room was updated with a modern bathroom and walk in shower. The walk out patio had a great view of the river and the pedestrian bridge over the Delaware. We had reservations for the restaurant and the view from the table was beautiful. I ordered the rack of lamb and my wife ordered the steak. For the appetizer we ordered the pork belly. The pork belly was excellent, who ever left the negative review previously for the pork belly obviously doesn't know how it is supposed to be prepared. The lamb and steak were cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. We had a night cap at the bar and the bartender was well versed in the history of the hotel. I will say the hidden gem of this hotel it the general store across the street. We went there for brunch. I wasn't looking for anything spectacular since it was a small kitchen and I was expecting the normal diner options. My wife ordered the waffles and I ordered the BLT. I will say this much, if you stay at the hotel definitely go here for brunch. The BLT has 7 strips of bacon, perfectly cooked with a picked onion and beet side that is to die for. I would have just ordered this for breakfast if I knew how good it was. The waffles are freshly made and the berry compote was delicious. We definitely enjoyed everything that they had to offer.

Yelp
What upscale restaurant does an 80th birthday party brunch for 21 people with 1 server??? In addition to poor service the food was seriously below par. No one from management of this "esteemed " venue bothered to stop in to ask how everything was; food arrived tepid or undercooked; water bottles were empty; we had to search on our own for plates and forks for dessert and our waiter said he wasn't good at cutting a cake so our hostess had to cut and serve it herself. For a premium priced restaurant all of this is unacceptable. The room that we were in was a "short cut" to the men's room and men from other parts of the restaurant didn't hesitate to use it as such, actually squeezing behind seated guests and the wall right behind us, occasionally even jostling us as they walked behind us. Definitely won't be going back.

Yelp
Perfect day for a walk on the Delaware river towpath trail and by the time we reached the Lumberville bridge it was lunchtime. We walked past the Black Bass hotel and since I hadn't been there in years of course we opted for a nice Sunday brunch by the river. We started with refreshing cocktails and then the most memorable delicious savory biscuits were placed in front of us. As soon I placed one on my plate I knew immediately by the aroma I was smelling that it was going to taste even better. One bite and I was in heaven ... the flavors of rosemary, thyme and what I surmised to be caramelized onions. Mmm mmmm hmmmm!! My partner ordered the filet and eggs ... personally I think the sunny side eggs could've stand to have the egg whites cooked a little more. Other than that it was absolutely delicious - I had to have a taste of that amazing looking breakfast. My crab cake fell a bit flat as the menu indicated jumbo lump and it had a few pieces of jumbo crab and the rest lump crab. Mind you the crab cake was all crab just not all jumbo lump. I think I'm always comparing it to Woody's (that's for another review). Also was bemused by the appearance of it seemingly looking batter fried but I don't believe it was. It tasted wonderful though a tad on the garlicky side. Mind you I do love garlic but after a few bites it was just overwhelming or was it the aioli. All was not lost as I still think its a great tasty brunch locale with lots of great views. The river of course was the star but mind you their bar, wall of china and the fireplace room with the really cool crest was also quite stunning. Get there if not for the biscuits alone but for the atmosphere and everything else! Til next time!

Yelp
Stayed at the Baxter which is pet friendly. Lovely sunroom, patio, and fenced in yard. Charging stations for electronics bedside. Which you won't need since you have no WIFI. But there is a fire pit with wood, but no kindling. So you go to bed early but THE MATTRESS IS LIKE A ROCK. I looked under the sheets: it was stained and looked 30 years old. The bathroom was beautiful but you risked slipping and cracking your head in the shower. Bring your own hairdryer and coffee maker. There are dog bowls but no extra towels to wipe the mud off your mutt's feet. So much for a romantic get away. The dog was happy.

Sharpie S.

Yelp
So disappointed in our recent meal. Quality of the food has really gone down and we had what they consider to be signature dishes, the crab au gratin and pork belly which was terrible. I did mention it to the waitress Shelley who said, you should have complained sooner and I would have gotten you another one but she neglected to return to our table and check on us after it was served until the entrée arrived. Desserts were just ok. Nothing special. I've bought better desserts at Costco. Huge let down from previous dinners. I should have read these reviews before we went. Something tells me they're not doing anything about the poor food quality based on the number of recent negative reviews. You're definitely paying for the river views and not good food!

Yelp
I truly do not understand how people like this place. If there ever was an overhyped restaurant- it's this one. There are so many other great restaurants in and around the area to choose from and I highly recommend going to them. You are not missing anything here. The only redeeming factor this one has is the view of the river. The food was bad. Their signature dishes everyone raves about? They were so bad that I genuinely almost had to spit that "mac and cheese" out. It tasted like dirty river water. My fish dish had multiple personalities. It didn't know if it wanted to be a Mediterranean meal or an Italian meal or a Spanish meal. It was confusing and bad. The octopus was chewy and fishy and not charred at all. The menu doesn't even read well. It feels like an old 90s 'fancy spot' that is trying too hard to be good. But hey! At least it is expensive and dark inside (sense the sarcasm). I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 solely for the river.

Yelp
We were excited to finally try the restaurant at the Black Bass but found it to be disappointing both in the service and our meal. The staff looked stressed and while one server engaged with their tables (going - it wasn't ours) others looked like they had more important things to do than make their table feel welcome. Even the hostess displayed the same distracted, unwelcoming attitude. The herbed biscuits served were hard and overly herbaceous - they had an odd flavor and definitely were not soft and flaky, which is the hallmark of a good biscuit. My husband tried the gnocchi entree - while it had an interesting concept, the gnocchi were tough and the dish overpowered by basil. I tried their signature Meeting Street Crab and found numerous pieces of crab shells in the small lunchtime portion. Service was less than stellar as our server disappeared after presenting our entrees and we had to flag down someone else to settle the bill. When I pointed out the pieces of shell in my entree, the gentleman said he would let the chef know but overall, was completely disinterested in discussing the issue further. I wasn't looking to have the entree removed from our bill as I did eat the portion, but felt they needed to do a better job cleaning the crab. All in all, while the views were lovely this is not a restaurant we would try again.

Susan M.

Yelp
We were so excited to spend our 41 anniversary there for dinner. . Our serivice was minimal and our entree came out cold. We asked for it to be warmed and felt they just overcooked the halibut and did nothing to the rest of the entree . We are not critical people but we're so disappointed we had to write

Yelp
We went for a friends anniversary dinner. Very nice experience! Everything was a 10. We were in a separate room right off the bar area. First off, there is valet parking and self parking across the street. Secondly, if you come here it is $$$. I partook in eating the shrimp appetizer which was fantastic. I got the last one and after my first bite I know why-delicious. I had the special-Haddock and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had Salmon which she said was delicious. We had drinks from the bar. Our waitress waited on a party of 20 with ease. She was very good and friendly. The Inn is on the Delaware River right off the walking bridge to NJ. It was raining so we did not stroll around to catch the beautiful scenery. If you are looking for a special evening, I suggest the Black Bass Inn. You will not be disappointed.

Debbie H.

Yelp
Our party of five was looking forward to dining at Black Bass! Two people ordered the cod which had no flavor. One person ordered the filet mignon which was quite tough! I'm not sure we will return if this is their typical food quality. It was such a disappointment as we were celebrating two birthdays!

Yelp
Key takeaways from our meal / service: 1. Restaurant prioritizes short-term profit vs. long-term reoccurring value based on previously agreed expectation and service 2. No sense of empathy or apology from management team regarding the systematic failure of operations at every stage of the experience 3. Communication breakdown between event staff and daily operations staff, leading to confusion / unaligned service 4. Lack of basic hospitality know-how and remediation plan to turnaround a sub-par experience. ---------------------- On Sunday afternoon, a group of ~16 people from a social club descended upon what we thought was a quaint restaurant for lunch. The reservation was already pre-booked months ago and parking arrangements were made for the entire group. However, things started to fall apart at each point of the lunch. 1. Parking - Upon arrival, it appeared the lot attendant were not made aware of our parking situation and stated only 1/3 of the cars can park at the designated pre-booked lot. After some back and forth, we were able to park, abeit not together as previously agreed. 2. Large group reservation - Upon arriving, our host informed us that they no longer have the "canal room" available, even though once again, our social club coordinator booked / confirmed in advance. It was quickly determined the room was given away to a wedding party... 3. Service - After being seated in an alternate location that is not suitable for a large group, the meal service started to also show signs of poor management. Ordering was delayed, drink service was slow with no proactive refill by the waiter at any point during the meal. Incorrect sequencing of dishes (i.e. bread was asked, however, it was not delivered until well after the soup course). Took 2 hours to get the first course! Due to the significant delay, many in the group asked for desserts to go since it was a set menu. There was no offer of any concessions on price at the end of the day. Entire two courses took more than 3 hours. Getting the bill also took much longer than anticipated. 4. Food - Food was unremarkable, clearly many of the dishes came pre-made and was only heated at the restaurant. One friend ordered the shrimp & grits, plastic was found in the dish, probably from the container it was poured from. 5. Management reaction - We get things happen and mistakes do occur...Management 101 would dictate a sincere recognition of the failures and a honest apology. Not to mention offering certain concessions to "make things right". These simple gestures could have turned around a sour taste of ~16 local diners who now cannot recommend this restaurant for future patrons.

Yelp
My family and I have been here several times for big celebrations. Why? The ambiance, the view, and the service. The prices make this somewhere I don't frequent often, but when we do it's always a nice time together. We have always had the nicest servers, and great server assistants. Most recently, we dined for a birthday during Sunday lunch. Appetizers: The Baked Brie en Croûte was unbelievably yummy. My parents enjoyed the Mediterranean Antipasto. Entrees: My brother always loves the steak and eggs here. The filet is delicious! My burger had a great presentation and I really liked the fries. Desserts: You really cannot go wrong with desserts here. Our server, Jody gave us her recommendations and they were on point!! I never had Affogato before but with their house made vanilla ice cream it was so good! Creamy, dreamy deliciousness. The carrot cake shocked me. It was surprisingly rich and decadent. Expect a 2 hour table time for a big group. We had 6 people and it did take some time between courses. Note: for the birthday girl, she received a candle in her dessert, a beautiful card, and local chocolate! Very much appreciated :)

Yelp
Honestly, our dinner was a disappointment last night. We came in for our first-anniversary dinner and nobody acknowledged it despite the fact that I left a note on the reservation. Our server, seemed really off...like something wasn't right. She just sort of showed up at the table and just stood there--didn't ask us why we were all dressed up, or if we had ever been to the Black Bass before, or if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions. Maybe she had a tough day or was really tired, but you could tell she really did not want to be there. My husband and I ordered a salad to share and she brought only one share-plate. We also had to ask for bread despite all the other tables around us receiving bread (from other servers). I was excited to see a vegan option on the menu, but $32, for "stuffed mediterranean eggplant" which turned out to be 3 little eggplant rollatini covered in red sauce and a literal pile of hot, chopped up cucumbers is absurd. Someone clearly left the cucumbers under a heat lamp...and more perplexing was the chef's choice to pair a cucumber salad with eggplant covered in marinara sauce. The heat-lamped cucumbers ended up becoming covered in marinara sauce...which was weird. Pasta or something to soak up all the red sauce would have been a much better option than literal hot cucumbers. While the eggplant rollatini were tasty, it wasn't a $32 dish. I will note that my husband was very happy with his swordfish ($38) and said it was cooked perfectly, so the evening wasn't a total bust. We paid the bill and left a tip because I wouldn't dream of stiffing someone working to make a living wage...but we won't be coming back. If you want to visit this charming inn, I'd recommend you sit at the bar or on the patio and just order a drink and enjoy the views--but save your money for a better dining experience elsewhere.

Yelp
WOW!!! The best food I've ever had! We scallops and risotto, and the Barramundi ! Judy the bar tender was the most pleasant person to dine with. (She looks and sounds like Nicole Kidman). My new favorite lace to eat!!!

Yelp
I had a bug in my food and showed them. Took photos and the dam manager didn't care. Screw this place!

Yelp
35 years ago, we often gazed at the Black Bass Inn restaurant as we walked across the suspension bridge and on the canal towpath but we could not afford to eat there. As a couple living on a Princeton junior faculty salary, we were saving our pennies to take care of our baby on the way. To celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, we visited Lumberville to walk the bridge and tow path and to enjoy a dinner at the Black Bass Inn at last. We were not disappointed. * We were fortunate on seating - the host assigned us a table next to the windows with a view of the river. * The entrees were excellent. Willa enjoyed a succulent roast duck with pilaf and stewed apples. I savored the rack of lamb with a generous topping of pistachios. * As Bostonians, we had to go with the blackberry Boston cheesecake for dessert. * The Black Bass offered a bonus for our anniversary - a box of four chocolate coated caramels that we shared with our grown up daughter and her husband. * The service was top notch - efficient and friendly. All in all a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion! Highly recommended.

Yelp
I'm Celiac and I had an amazing experience. My waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised when I was served my own bread basket! They have a large gluten free menu selection and the food was delicious! I could have a variety of appetizers ( not just salads). The main menu was mostly gluten free and there was a large selection of dessert items!

Yelp
One of the things I love most about summer is savoring a delightful, refreshing evening on the Delaware, where I can witness breathtaking sunsets and relish delectable foods. Black Bass Inn never fails to deliver with its epic sunsets and fantastic cuisine. Here are some pictures to share with you all. The caramel drizzle chocolate tart was truly incredible!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the their dog friendly room, Baxter's cabin. It was darling! It's a two room cottage with a gorgeous bathroom and a private outdoor patio area. The king size bed was super comfy. My only suggestion for the room would be to add a mini fridge, just for cold drinks, but no biggie. We walked the dog along the tow path and around New Hope. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was a warm, cozy atmosphere and very good food and service. We both got flank steak, which was excellent. The next morning we got coffee and cinnamon buns at the general store. It was the perfect fall getaway from the jersey shore! We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
The location is amazing, right on the water; the service was terrific; the food was very good; we ate inside and there were too many flies that just made it a touch uncomfortable

Yelp
Waitstaff and bartender Wonderful! A party of 6 or more should never eat here. The owners and managers obviously don't care that food sits and gets dry until the entire order is prepared. Why is the kitchen so inefficient. The restaurant is also filthy, time to close for 2 weeks and clean . Musty, dirty old food smell . The quality of the food is no longer the same .The filet mignon and sea food must be from Costco. The only thing that helped is the waitstaff and bartender were so kind . Management obviously doesn't care, they just hike the prices . Our get togethers will never be at the bass again ! A complimentary gift certificate for the entire order and a re do might change our minds , but it can't be crappy quality food. No wonder we were advised to check out the National Hotel and Finnbar. We will now . Black bass is a thing of the past! Customers should pass this message on! We also are taking bets if there will be a reply or the smug management will ignore this . Yelp is not the only place this review is going to be posted on . One star only because it's required to post ! Otherwise negative stars.

Yelp
We planned on a special dinner for our 38th Anniversary. Unfortunately we were very disappointed . My husband's Swordfish Saltimboca was dry and his chocolate cake had no taste. My squid was tasty but there was more peppers and onions than squid. Charleston crab was delicious and the view was lovely. Highlight of the evening was French pressed coffee. Service was mediocre. What a let down.

Yelp
Well, last night's celebratory dinner was a total disappointment. where do I begin? I made a reservation for four(4) to celebrate our dear friend's 80 something birthday with a very clear request for a small cake or desert with a festive candle. "No problem, Sir, we'll take care of it!" What our dear friend got was a small chocolate favor and a tiny liquor glass filled with whipped cream and a candle. All this for $400! Such a deal! About the menu...The menu is now very limited with prices substantially higher than last year. Still no table clothes, fine china, or silverware. We were advised that the "sticky table" was "due to a new alcohol cleaning solution" by our waitress. How about re-cleaning the table without a dopey excuse? And, when you drop the silverware, custom should dictate that you replace it with a clean implement, not merely wipe it clean with your apron. Am I waxing too critical? If the Black Bass Hotel, recently a very good restaurant, is going to charge William Penn Inn, Washington Crossing prices, average entree' around $40.00, ergo, the menu, service, ambiance, cleanliness (basic, yes?) et al ought to be comparable, right? And, a port wine glass filled with whipped cream and a candle? Are you kidding me? What's next...Restroom Attendants ransoming paper towels and mints for tips? And, did I politely address my concerns with the taciturn lady manager? You betcha...Her indifference was hardly indicative of a four or five star establishment. "That's just what we do here," she responded in a mildly irritated voice without eye contact or any semblance of even feigned concern. The valet parking attendant was more attentive and gracious. They should immediately put him in-charge of "Customer Service" at this place. Friends, if you want a four or five star local experience and do not wish to suffer a bad case of "Diner's Remorse," I would counsel you to avoid this place for a "positive memorable experience." William Penn Inn or Washington Crossing continue to strive for high culinary and dining standards. Not unlike that bag of potato chips that used to contain 14 oz. for $2.99 and now has 8 oz. for $4.99; this is what you now get as the "Black Bust!" A higher price with a limited one page menu and a sticky table for four! No charge for the whipped cream, however! James Albert Doylestown

Yelp
The restaurant is outstanding. As soon as you walk in you can feel the history and nostalgia this place is known for. The food was delicious and great portions for a fine dining establishment. You usually expect a big plate with a small portion in the middle at upper end restaurants but the portion was perfect. It fed two people. The service and server, Shari Lynn I believe, was impeccable. She was so knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the hotel. She was like a private historian/tour guide as well as a great waitress. Give her a raise. The rest of the staff were so hospitable and nice. We will definitely return. After last it has become One of my favorite restaurants. Get the swordfish. It is Amazing. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
This is a review for the RESTAURANT - not the hotel. The restaurant is in a very beautiful location. We got there early and since there isn't much around, we walked across the bridge and enjoyed the beautiful views of the water. It was really wonderful. Every staff member we came in contact with during dinner - hostess, wait staff, etc were all extremely friendly and gracious. Food - was really a "3" but I'm bumping up a star for the 2 things I mentioned above. Free bread - really, really bad. Sets a bad tone. It was a mix of biscuits and another type of bread - both LOOK good, but taste terrible. It's hard to find bread that's "bad" but this was it. I think they'd be better off not offering bread if it's going to be that bad. Rock shrimp appetizer - VERY good! It's crispy shrimp without being super fried / greasy. My fiance ordered this and it was his favorite part of the meal. Butter Lettuce, Avocado And Citrus Salad - I subbed feta cheese for the goat cheese. This was EXTRAORDINARY - so good, in fact, that we ordered one to go. Everything was fresh and beautiful. I loved every bite of it. Charleston Meeting Street Crab (Signature Dish) - My fiance ordered this. He didn't like it at the first couple bites, then he kept eating more and more and it grew on him. I tried 2 bites and did not like it at all. Fiance says he wouldn't order this again. Lobster Corn Risotto - I got this. It looked like steam was coming from this dish, but it turns out that was just from the risotto. So many other parts of this dish were COLD (not intentionally - they weren't heated enough). The lobster was cold, the corn was cold, the shrimp was cold, and the scallops were lukewarm (and just "meh" on taste). If everything was hot, maybe it would have been good, but this was a disappointment. We might come back because of the ambiance - it's super charming - but the only standout food was the appetizer and the delicious salad. I don't recommend it for an entree, but it can still create a nice date night if your expectations are set accordingly.
