13 Diners in Las Vegas for Heaping Plates of Bacon and Eggs | Eater Vegas

"Come to the Black Bear Diner in Henderson or Las Vegas for the cheeky black bear sculptures, stay for the too-good diner fare. Start with the Grizz — two sweet cream pancakes, three eggs, two slices of bacon, two sausage links, and a ham steak, served with your choice of potato or go for the chicken fried steak and eggs smothered with gravy and served with three eggs, strip-cut hash browns, country red potatoes or fresh fruit and two housemade biscuits. Four locations in Las Vegas and Henderson." - Janna Karel

Server was conscientious about the quality and temperature of the food. Every item had full flavor and was good portioned. The onion rings could have been a larger order and the chili is a little overpriced for a single cup, but you could taste the flavor of everything. The butter comes individually wrapped. The hash browns are well prepared. I had prime rib, scrambled eggs and cheese. It was amazing. My wife had the cheeseburger. The ranch dressing is homemade. All around a great value. If you want a home-cooked meal, this is a place to get it and if you don't go to this place, it's going to be a great loss in the bucket list

My local Black Bear is in Torrance, Ca. So when I visited Vegas I knew I could expect the same great food. It didn't disappoint, staff was friendly, we were seated quickly ( I think because we beat tthe Sunday morning rush). Would definitely return when I'm in Vegas next time. Dining area and waiting area were clean.

Google
Terrible service at this location. Host at the counter did not greet us as we came in and was doing something on the computer for minutes as we stood there. Then our waitress came and put us at a table and we could tell from how tired and unfriendly she was that we were not going to have good service. We tried ordering the huckleberry lemonade and was told they are out of that. I asked her what the soup options were, she told me chicken noodle and broccoli. I ordered broccoli then she told me they were out of that. Our order came out correctly which was good but the food was so bland and flavorless. I've ordered from the Trop location a few times and had always enjoyed the food so not sure what's happening at this location. Chicken fried steak was super bland, the mashed potatoes tasted like water, the Mac n cheese had shredded cheese on top that was hard and gross to chew on like it had been sitting out and dried out before being sprinkled on the Mac n cheese. Overall such a disappointing experience. I do not recommend this location.

Google
Our waitress was super nice food was so good had the mini volcano yum had strawberry 🍓 😋 on top. Bf had the patty melt he loved the grilled onions on it. The restaurant was clean and well organized. The pies in the case looked fresh i have had the banana cream many times.

Google
We sat down and weren’t greeted for 15 minutes. I saw other tables looking around for their server too. The manager came over and took our order. The food arrived. Eggs were overcooked for a Benedict. Nobody ever came back to our table to check on us or refill our drinks. Nobody dropped off our check. I was just so confused at how bad the service and the food was. Honestly, I could have left without paying and I don’t think anyone would have noticed. I had to wait at least 5 minutes at the front counter for the hostess to come back so I could pay. Will not be back.

Google
Delicious food. I got the volcano and everything was very good. I especially enjoyed the bacon. My wife built her own breakfast with pancakes and sausage and was pleased with it. We got a side of fries and ranch and the ranch was very good. Will definitely return and try some other options.

Great food, great value - 100% worth checking out. I’ve never had a dish that wasn’t above average. Service can be good to great depending but I’ve never had bad service here. I can certainly say this place is such a good value and doesn’t sacrifice quality. If you live in the area absolute worth checking out. If you’re visiting and wanting to get off the strip — think about checking this place out.

Google
Breakfast was excellent. Eggs were cooked right, sausage patties were moist and tender. The omelet was overcooked, but Ashley, our waitress, took it back and had it remade. It was back in 5 minutes and was perfect. Ashley never let our coffee or water get empty and was the best. Thank you, we will return

Yelp
This was the best Black Bear Diner experience I've had. This location was the friendliest for a diner setting. Most diners have employees who do not seem to care about customers and food service. Here was completely different. The place has a diners feel and the rustic lodge feeling made me feel like I was back home in Michigan. The food was delicious. If you like biscuits and gravy I highly recommend getting it here. It was the best I have ever had here in Las Vegas. The biscuits were fluffy and tasted like a 5 star dinning biscuit from a high end restaurant. They are big. Just perfect.

Yelp
Hubby and I went to Black Bear Diner since it is in the neighborhood. It has been a while since we last visited. We got our "standards" which would be corned beef hash for him and tuna melt for me. They were fine. Potatoes in the hash were under cooked and the toast was a bit on the burnt side. While my tuna melt was really tasty, my French fries were soggy. We will return because the restaurant is nice and clean. The service was respectable. We will know to ask for hash browns to substitute for the potatoes in the corned beef and ask for medium toast and crispy fries. Why didn't we mention it to the server? We were both STARVING and didn't want to delay our food moment any longer. With that said, we will return and give it another try and will edit this review. I would still recommend to other diners. They have a nice menu, and the employees were as nice as could be. Best of luck to the team.

Yelp
Dinner was ruined before we even had a chance to order Asked the waitress what the specials were .. she sighs and sasses that "everything on the menu" is a special. I had to physically walk outside to read the banner with the specials on it.

Yelp
To the manager at the Sahara location- With regard to my order- 27087982812594176 that included three orders of pancakes but came with no butter or syrup. First you say I order through a third party company. I placed my order on Black Bear Diner's (BBD) website. If you use a third party to fulfill that order, that doesn't negate your responsibility to correctly fulfill that order. Secondly, you need to familiarize yourself with the ordering process on your website. When ordering pancakes, there is no spot that says add syrup. IN FACT the picture of the pancake advertises that it COMES with syrup. If you're not going to include syrup you need to change the picture. That's false advertisement. I'm telling you right now I am beyond offended that you would say it was my fault that I didn't get syrup with my pancakes because I didn't ask for condiments. My husband got gravy with his mashed potatoes. He got gravy with his chicken fried steak. Syrup is an integral part of pancakes and shouldn't be an "at request" item. If times are so hard that you can't afford to give syrup unless it's requested, I can't help but wonder what other shortcuts are happening at this restaurant. The thing is I don't believe your excuse. When I eat at the restaurant I've never had to request syrup, at your restaurant or any restaurant. You messed up and refused to take responsibility. I hope it was worth it as you've lost a longtime customer and gained two negative reviews.

Yelp
This is an amazing location with incredible staff. Food was so good and the portion was just right. Marisol our waitress was very friendly. Love her personality and she takes care of her customers. Thank you Marisol for existing in this planet. Ambiance was very simple but the bathrooms are super clean. We will definitely comeback to this location

Yelp
I've been a fan of Black Bear since I first visited the original on Mt. Shasta many many years ago. Unfortunately, this one doesn't live up to the high BBD standard that I've come to expect. The service was fine. But the vibe was grungy and kinda sad. For dinner, the food was retirement-home plain, and the portions were surprisingly small. My broccoli side was literally two bites of broccoli. The mashed potatoes- maybe a quarter cup. There was nothing horrible, but my friends and I agreed that we would not return. I used to think of BBD food as a big step above Blueberry Hill or Ely's. But this visit would place a *distant* third behind those.

Yelp
They have sweet tea, you guys! That's enough for 5 stars in itself. Had a breakfast for 3, 49.00 after a military discount. Clean, good vibes and good music, even had a jukebox! I will be back. Our server Oscar was nice, and so was the girl who checked us out. Lil dude got a bear, and I got earings in their gift shop. Went for Mother's Day lunch. Was a nice time.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming to Black Bear diner. The food is always spot on the service is always good and I love how the place is decorated with cute little bear paw prints everywhere. No matter what I've had coming here whether it be breakfast lunch or dinner it's always perfect and tastes amazing, and always comes out fast. The pies the desserts are also so good. Everyone is so nice. The customer service is A+. We're always seated right away. There's never a wait. But I'm sure if you go on a Saturday morning or Sunday morning it's probably a little bit busier. Highly recommend blackbear for all your comfort food needs. Always a five star review for me.

Yelp
Had the chicken fried steak and eggs, which is large enough to feed a bear, and delicious! The biscuits are huge and tasty! Spouse enjoys waffles and says these are the best in town. Service was attentive and quick. Booths are comfortable.

Yelp
First up, i just want to say that i don't know where Black Bear gets their employees or what kind of training they go through, but they have the best staff. Every customer service business should follow their lead. We have been to ALOT of BB restaurants in and out of CA, and NEVER had a bad experience. The food is always perfect and staff, wow I can't say enough about how attentive and professional they are. This location has plenty of parking in the strip mall center where they are located. Inside and out were very clean. Thanx for another great meal.

Yelp
The Manager Brenda is absolutely amazing !!! Brenda displays Great Leadership!! We had the opportunity to observe her skills on Father's Day and she was right there with her team, helping out on the frontline, kitchen, order pickup, order takeout and never lost her cool, was extremely patient and more than helpful with her servers! Ms. Brenda is to be commended for her efforts, dedication and superior performance in Leadership! The servers are blessed to have a dedicated leader like Brenda. The team of servers are so professional and always make their customers feel welcomed and valued!! GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!

Yelp
As much as I love this place, the service is terrible! The waitress couldn't care less about us sitting here in the back. I also asked for well done sausage and it is not cooked more than normal. The omelette tasted amazing. Just disappointed!!!

Yelp
This was a very bad experience from the start. I was having brunch with a friend. We arrived at 11:30am, and we were seated by the bar at a table. It took 15 minutes for the server to acknowledge us. As soon as she came to our table, we ordered our drinks and food. After an hour, someone came out from behind the bar and asked us what we ordered. At that point we complained. She apologized and said that the kitchen lost our ticket. Okay, mistakes can happen, so we continued to wait. After another 20 minutes our food finally came out. I had ordered the turkey club. My French Fries came out ice cold, so they told me they would bring out fresh fries. That took another 20 minutes. As far as my sandwich, I've had better from gas stations. My friend ordered a breakfast plate, and paid extra for hash browns. She couldn't even eat her sausage, bacon was not good either. Her pancakes were also cold but she poured hot maple syrup on them which made it edible. Her hash browns were undercooked and had no seasoning just like my second order of fries. We finished eating, and waited another 30 minutes without getting a bill. We got aggravated and went to the hostess stand, and complained. They took 25% off our bill, so that's why they get 2 stars instead of 1.

Yelp
After an appointment, I stopped at Black Bear for breakfast. It was St. Patrick's Day and they had an Irish Benedict for a special and I had to try it. I was seated quickly and brought a cup of coffee. I ordered the Benedict special which was 2 poached eggs on shredded corn beef brisket. There was a large amount of potatoes and a small dish of fresh fruit. Needless to say, it was an ample breakfast. Service was very good. i had my coffee refilled a couple of times. Black Bear is a chain that is family franchised being in at least 14 states. There are three in Las Vegas and I've had breakfast at the one in St. George, Utah. They specialize in comfort food with ample portions such that you may need a to go box for leftovers. A good place to stop for this breakfast!

Yelp
We were greeted and immediately seated upon entry. There was a big rush right when we sat down, so it did take a little while to get our order in. However, we got our food in due time, and everything was hot and fresh. The prime rib was very good, the tri-tip medallions were very big and delicious, and the sirloin steak was also cooked just right. The green beans had bacon and onions, a nice surprise. The mashed potatoes and gravy tasted homemade. The broccoli was cooked just right. We were constantly checked on, drinks refilled, "is everything okay," etc. The chicken noodle soup was obviously homemade, with good chunks of chicken and thick broth. The salads were very good. Service was always with a smile. Fun decorations inside with an obvious bear theme everywhere. A variety of music was playing quietly in the background. Being our very first visit to any Black Bear Diner, we look forward to our return. The banana cream pie was not just one slice, it was like a miniature 6 inch pie, and extremely enjoyable.

Yelp
The portions are GARGANTUAN! I loved the taste of the food and the service. The day my best friend and I went there was a long line and they sat us down quickly!
google avatar

Casey G.

Yelp
The sweet cream pancakes are a must try! They are sweet and cooked to perfection. Their menu is fun, it looks like a small mountain community newspaper. It is pretty extensive with a lot of different options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The service was good. Efficient to keep the flow of guests going. There are plenty of tables inside for groups of all sizes to visit. Can't wait to go back and have more of those yummy pancakes.
google avatar

Deborah B.

Yelp
Tried the fried steak. Very tough and hard. Burnt. Waitress was kind, but she should have taken one look at the fried steak and of the cooks it wasn't suitable to have a customer pay for it and not be able to eat it. Won't be returning.

Yelp
I had breakfast at the Black Bear Diner restaurant in Las Vegas Nevada and it was really good and delicious!!! I ordered the Big Foot chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns potatoes and a side of biscuits and gravy and it was delicious!!! The waitress was very nice and helpful. The atmosphere was really nice with pictures and designs of Bears around the restaurant.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast (I had the Denver omelette), great service and smiling, friendly staff! Very happy. Hash browns were good, side of 3 BIG sausage links were excellent, only complaint was that I like a bit more butter on my toast (sourdough). Recommended

Molly S.

Yelp
Great homemade sausage. Homemade Biscuits are huge. Big portions. Good air down atmosphere.

Yelp
Been to this location numerous times. Never had an issue until today. Came in for breakfast. Was seated fairly quickly. Got our drink order pretty fast. Watched quite a few people come and get seated. Then proceeded to watch many tables all around us have their orders taken and we were ignored. After sitting there for 20 minutes someone finally came over and asked if our order had been taken. I told them no and that we had been waiting 20 minutes. The waitress had the gall to tell she had JUST come on shift. ( I watched her taking orders when we first came in.) Overall she was very rude. Acted like she couldn't care less that we had been waiting and people around us being helped and we completely ignored. Needless to say,we walked out. Will never go back to this location.

Yelp
First time here. Spot on service by Flower. Coffee is very smooth and our breakfast was excellent. Clean environment with friendly employees I'm coming back.

Yelp
Diners are typically hit or miss ! I'm enjoyed this place ! I can tell that this has been here for a lil while . The staff was nice . The portion sizes are HUGE ! I'm a huge salad eater and i definitely couldn't finish mine . I liked the bear decorations ! The place is very fitting for the location.

Yelp
Wow‼ Never been so disappointed in this restaurant EVER. We had chicken fried steak, tasteless and oily, red skin mashed potatoes with gravy made with water and NO FLAVOR except like paste, frozen green beans that were hard as a rock after they supposedly were cooked all day with bacon. The clam chowder had clams so rubberized you couldn't bite them in half. Had to take them out of the soup. The chili was just like the rest mushy bland flavor. The corn bread muffins and the butter was the best‼ I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone anymore. $42.40 for a meal that was horrible‼ So much for home cooked food. It's all pre-prepared and you sure can tell. The restaurant wasn't even busy and it sucked. The waiter was a very nice young man

Yelp
My first visit to Black Bear Diner was awesome. I had the avacodo toast and it was very flavorful. I had avacodo tomatoes and a lil bit of onion. This visit I could wait to have the avacodo toadt again. I was so disappointed and confused. Its was spread avacodo on toast no flavor. My daughter had a burger and didn't want her tomatoes so I took them and added them to my toast.

Yelp
Love the ambiance. Family took the Papa Bear for a Father's Day breakfast at the bear themed diner. Good service. And a fantastic chicken fried steak! Coffee was decent, and I was surprised at the price... Reasonable for a family of four. First time there, and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Best Pancakes I ever had and I have NEVER been a fan of pancakes. Sweet Cream Pancakes...yummy!

Yelp
We used to go here often. But after last night we won't return. Arrived about 6 it was almost empty. The waiter was nice. I ordered tri tip meal. Salad was only lettuce 2 cherry tomatoes 2 cucumber slices. Glad it was included and not an add on for a plate of lettuce. The tri tip was old as boot leather cutting it was difficult and to tough and dry to chew no gravy . Green beans were good. Potato loaded disappointing and wasnt very warm. I ate just a bite or 2 of meal is wasn't good. Husband had steak and eggs on banner at sidewalk steak tough and left most of meal. It took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive in an empty restaurant. Dont know what happened to this once busy restaurant with good food but its no longer somewhere we will go back to.

Yelp
Dang, this place hit it. Just about every Tuesdays me and the wife like to go out to breakfast. We do have a usual go to. However we decided to try something different. I was hoping diner atmosphere I could get something different off the menu. See I work grave shift and sometimes just breakfast won't do. So I asked for a cheeseburger and fries. No problem all the fixings and a thousand island dressing. No thanks, just the hamburger cheese and fries. No problem. The food was very good and done to order. Service was spot on. Wish I remembered our servers name, anyhow, she was awesome. We will be back!
google avatar

W D.

Yelp
Our food took an hour. And even then only two of the three meals came. The other took another ten minutes. Waitress was apologetic but offered no explanation. I had no fork and it took her ten minutes to come back with it. Asked for a box when we were finished, never came. They did not offer any discount for the issues. Food was ok - we had breakfast- but nothing special. Never again.

Patrick E.

Yelp
They changed their bacon and yet still advertise it as thick cut when it's the same skinny bacon they use everywhere now
google avatar

Rhonda S.

Yelp
I startled the waiter when he gave me the menu and I shrieked a happy little BUTTERMILK BISCUITS! I get a free biscuit with my meal????? Oh buttermilk biscuits how I miss thee. The menu is literally printed as a tabloid newspaper. Reminds me of the Chicago newspapers I used to read on the train back in the day. There are some fun articles on the front of the menu. Then open it up and things are more serious. So many choices too little time. I opted for the Shasta Veggie Scramble (360 cals.). Now I appreciate when a menu has calories on the menu but it sort of takes all of fun out of scarfing down something naughty. This scramble was light and delicious. I chose hash browns also of course. And a big ole BISCUIT. that thing was bigger than my head. Soft and fragrant, buttery goodness! My eyes were too big for my stomach and alas I could not finish the biscuit. My friend got a BLT and onion rings. The size of the serving was huge. Fast and friendly server. Prices are very decent. The menu is overwhelming, but a selection is always a good thing.

Yelp
With a family size of 40 people, Ms. Shaquilla and her team members took care of business for our mother's 75th Birthday. All of her grandchildren and nieces and nephews had a great time. They are all full.. lol. Thanks again for serving all of us timely. The great part of it all was that manager Brenda was alllll hands on deck. The crew came out sang to her.. It was realllllly worth it. The music was great too. ( they played musical selections of my favorite group ZAPP.. ) We ate, drank, and was Beary! 2023!!

Rick A.

Yelp
I went there today for some breakfast, and it looked like a tornado tore through the place. Every table and booth was dirty, there was food on the floor. I've never been to a restaurant that was so dirty, and nobody was doing anything to clean it up! Terrible!
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
First time coming to this place on Christmas, wait time wasn't to bad would say about 20 minutes. The host staff was friendly and they had a nice sitting area, with good music playing. My waiter was amazing at getting my drink order and dinner, since it's Christmas they had a limited menu. Another 20 mintues later we got our food which was great but my fires were cold. The only thing I could say to improve on is also the men's restroom hd graffiti on the mirror and signs. Hopefully they will have it fix.
google avatar

Beverly R.

Yelp
Love their fresh squeezed orange juice. Have tried most of them around town and they are the same taste and great service in every one! The decor is like a cabin in the woods.
google avatar

Rhonda C.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! Brenda the manager was so helpful! My husband and I have restricted diets so it's hard to order at times. Not here - Brenda came over and listened to our request and made it happen! The food was delicious, I highly recommend the meatloaf and the tri tip. If you are a carnivore they work with you. I'm so happy we will definitely be coming back again.
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
Service was excellent but the food horrible I had two eggs over medium bacon and red potatoes. The potatoes were cold, and the bell pepper and onion that were mixed in were raw. The waitress happily gave me a substitution of fruit my boyfriend's food he got the hashbrowns, no flavor and cold as well spent $38when I could've stayed home and ate better absolutely no seasoning I highly suggest going somewhere else

Yelp
We normally come in on the weekends and have amazing service. From check in to food hitting the table it normally takes about 20-30 minutes and that's when they are busy. We came in today at 9:45 and ordered as soon as we were sat same thing as we order all the time. The place was definitely not busy with a lot of open tables come 10:40 still no food keep in mind is was not busy. Are server came by twice to say our food would be right out and it was not still as we sat there waiting almost an hour after we ordered we finally got up and let the server know to cancel our order, no offer to get a manager nothing, over all worst dinning experience we have ever had. I mean seriously an hour for pancakes and eggs what a joke!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is still a great diner and expectations are the same when we dine here. Good food, reasonable prices and great service! Oh yeah, the foods always consistently tasty as a bonus. I love their breakfast menu. You can get it regardless of time of day. You can get dinner menu items for breakfast in most cases. There are many menu items in which you can get a lighter version, half the size for a slightly lower price. But if your appetite is big, go for the regular size you won't regret it. I love chicken fried steak. Theirs isn't great, lightly breaded, comes from freezer but has a tender beef patty that tastes fresh. You can have two sides and your choice of soup or salad and a hot sweet cornbread muffin on the side. I'd rather have my chicken fried come from the south, but for Vegas it's not bad. My husband always gets fried chicken and it is crunchy, fresh and is a huge amount. It comes with the same as most dinner menu items, soup or salad. Two sides and a fresh warm cornbread muffin. If dessert is your thing, they have a lot to choose from, many pies, bear claws the size of a bears claw and the have specials like the current one, carrot cake. In the past when I have gotten their special cake choices, I found them fresh but small size compared to their in kitchen made cobblers and pies. There is a few locations now to choose from. There is a high demand for breakfast so be early to get a table. No reservations but their service is shift so turn over is quick but they never rush you out. If you're like me and my husband, you take our time and feel comfortable.

Yelp
Good Service and a great meal tonight the corn bread was on point moist and delicious and my clam chowder was amazing along with my corn bread and crackers. Such an amazing place to dine Black Bear Diner on Sahara and Durango.

Yelp
10 stars. Hospitality is wonderful. Brenda and Sandor are the best they did great. Positive atmosphere. Our order was great. Turkey club and the chili bowl are the best.

Yelp
My friend and I ate a late dinner at Black Bear Diner Sunday night. It was delicious, service was excellent and friendly. I ordered the avocado toast with two eggs over easy and fresh fruit. My friend ordered chicken fried steak with gravy and mashed potatoes. Everything was served hot. The care and attention the staff takes to ensure a wonderful meal is prepared and served is awesome. I recommend trying them if you haven't already. The restaurant is clean and tidy. I loved the bear pictures on the wall. I will return in the future.

Always hits the spot, cool to try something new each time. Nice relaxing atmosphere just hanging with my wife.

Yelp
We left BBD (black bear diner) on Sahara in Las Vegas so disappointed .. when usually very happy to eat there. My husband asked for the open faced hot turkey sandwich, which menu stated 'choose one' (typical sides listed) The plate describes (typical) bread, turkey, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, cranberry sauce. And ends w/ "as described". So when he asked for the side salad as his 1 choice she goes on as to "it's either the plated potatoes or choose one side in place of those". We read the menu to her but she insisted on her way. Very disappointed she wouldn't acknowledge the verbiage of the menu. Insisting as one of the managers she knew it even if menu didn't say and wouldn't honor as written. Very poor customer service at best!

Great food. Fresh fruit, yummy grit, tri tip was OK but overall I enjoyed everything. Expect to wait for food and service because they seem to be busy all day. My Server was good, at least he can keep up with everything I had asked for. Coffee is delicious. I love all their signature sauces. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Everything I have tried on the menu is great. My favorite breakfast is Joe's Hobo Omelette with the country red potatoes and comes with a biscuit. I always ask for gravy with my biscuit (yum)! My favorite lunch item is the Bacon Cheeseburger Salad. So delicious and filling! All of their servers have great customer service and the menu prices are great especially for the portion of food you get.

Yelp
Amazing service! Amazing food! We had the best breakfast this morning! Our server Danica was the absolute best! She was very attentive to our table and never let our drinks get empty! We will be back just because of her!
