Black Bear Tavern

I am new to Atlanta, moving from Texas. I have been wanting to try different spots for food that you cannot get in Texas. I finally made it here to Black Bear Tavern, and they did not disappoint. I got the “Awesome Burger” which was awesome! The food was filling and the sweet tea was sweet! I definitely will be frequenting this place! Mary took care of me, and made it a great experience!

As a Chicago guy, I can say Black Bear Tavern has an awesome atmosphere. The food is outstanding!! I've tried both the horseshoe burger and the Chicago dog on separate visits, and both were delicious. They also give heavy pours, so you get great value on drinks. I'll definitely be back for a Bears game with my gear!

I eat here every time, when Im near the hosiptal. The ulcer burger, awesome burger are good. The spinach is great. I tried the chicken sandwich it great tossed in sauce. I didn't eat the chicago style food cause im from there. But you will love it. The local 404 beer is good. It like a light Stella atrious. I never went on a weekend so the atmosphere will be different. Not sure how pack it gets

This was such a little hole in the wall but so worth it! Our waitress was super helpful in helping us decide what to order. She was very catering. The food itself was some of the best I've had in a while! We thought it was just bar food, but we were happily wrong! The salmon was so juicy and they made the wings extra crispy and it was so good! The person I went with got the chili and he said it was some of the best he's had. Only downside is say is if you're looking for atmosphere, it's not it. It's just a dingy bar vibe.

The food was really gooodd!!! Especially, staek and deep fried ingredients as shrimp and tater tots. The price and portion are reasonable. The atmosphere also good but when I was there, there were a lot of customers and there was only one waitress. However, overall experience was really good.

Great bartender. She was really helpful and cheerful. Food is generally overpriced for what you get. I bought 10 wings, fries, and a beer. With tip it was $35. Took about half an hour to get the wings. They were good, but $35 is just too much, so it won't be regular thing for me unfortunately. If you just want a bar, this is a bar. Fun atmosphere.

I discovered this place while looking at other yelp reviews. I paid for metered parking up front but was told that have a free parking lot beside the CVS. Service was extremely fast and friendly. I ordered the $8 special of Beer and Shot. They have multiple drink specials. I chose the whisky. For food, I ordered the belly buster of Horseshoe Hamburger. It is a 1/2 lb burger topped with fries, cheese, and chili. Very filling burger but lacks flavor and anything special. This is a Chicago themed sports bar. The decor is nice and they have a few TVs.

This welcoming, accessible, friendly, intimate tavern on Peachtree Road is ATL’s equivalent to Cheers! The vibe and food are THE BEST! And, you don’t have to order alcoholic drinks to be welcomed! Great place! And, the servers are THE BEST!

My boyfriend and I read the great burger Yelp reviews so we popped in for dinner. Black Bear Tavern is a great dive bar with kitchen (21 and over after 3pm). There is bar seating as well as plenty of table seating. I love the ambience here. Our server was super nice. And the music was all of the 90's and early 2000 greats! I had the mushroom swiss burger and my boyfriend had bacon Swiss burger. Black Bear Tavern cooks a perfect rare. Juicy and delicious. The onion rings were good but I really enjoyed the sautéed spinach side. Very good. We enjoyed Black Bear Tavern very much, in fact we brought mom back for burgers a few days later. Will definitely be back again. Highly recommend this place.

I've been twice for lunch, once with my mom & then most recently today. Both visits the food has been very pleasing. They are known for their burgers & they truly are the best you'll find in the area for sure! I've had service on the floor & at the bar & both times have been so far so good. As far as the ambiance, you're going to be in a sports bar with TVs and a jukebox with live music sometimes at night & when the weather is good they open up the garage like windows. Parking is behind the building by the CVS but, I enjoy my walk. Today I got the BLT on a croissant with a side of steamed broccoli, that's what's pictured below.

Nice vibe with good food. Came in on a Tuesday for lunch and while there were quite a few people there, there was no wait and our food was quick, hot and fresh. The egg rolls were good.

Love this place!! Found this bar when I moved to the Atlanta area and wanted to have a place that reminded me of home! It's hard to get Chicago food anywhere, but BBT really takes you back home!!! The Italian beef is made perfectly and has an amazing Au jus! Tots!! Who's doesn't like tots! Wife had the brats with tots and it transformed us back home!! If you're looking for a local watering hole where everyone will know your name, where you can watch great sports, enjoy nice cold beers, and have a staff that truly cares about the customers, then BBT is your place!! Can't wait to get back soon!!

chill spot to watch the game. mostly a bears bar but i like watching uga games here for a casual viewing. chicago dog was the best thing we tried by far! tater tots were also super tasty i don't drink but i love that they had root beer served in a cold glass! i'll be back, nice servers

This is a great blue collar bar in a white collar area. If you want to escape the bougie for a little while Park Tavern is your place. My go to eats are the Big ass fish sandwich, Buttermilk chicken sandwich or Italian beef! If I'm in the mood to big back I get the Hamburger Horse Shoe!! I definitely recommend this spot!

The waitress with short, lighter-colored hair was undeniably busy, but her service was appalling. When I ordered a tequila ginger and lemon, she didn't bother to ask what kind of tequila I wanted. She just stormed off in what seemed like an Adderall-fueled rush. She brought the drink back, and after a single sip, another guest at my table informed her that the tequila was nasty. Her response? A curt "Thank you," before breezing past us again. The drink sat untouched for the next 45 minutes. She returned with cold fries and tasteless food. After trying a piece of the chicken, I told her I didn't want any of the meal. She said she could take off the food but not the drink. When I refused to pay for the undrunk drink (see photo), she threatened to call the police. And she did. Over a $6 drink that I didn't even consume. I'm not sure if the issue was my lack of understanding, her lack of customer service, or my dark skin. But calling the police over a $6 drink? Unbelievable. I am never coming back, and I will tell everyone from Brooklyn, Marquette, Hampton, Los Angeles, Jersey City, and every other place I travel about this terrible experience.

Went at like 3:30 PM after going to a doctors appointment (easy walk from the next door hospital). I was served quickly, got a pomegranate cider (yum) and a black bean "ulcer" burger which has queso and jalapeños. The burgers come with a side (I got tater tots) and you can make any burger into a veggie burger with no additional cost. When I tell you this burger fixed me more than the doctor did....bruh. It was so good omg!!! The server was really nice, and there are like six TVs playing sports (idc about sports but maybe you do lol)

I am Chicago born and raised. Today was the Da Bears vs The Cheeseheads so I was happy to find this bar via the Chicago Bears app. I walked into a sea of Bears jerseys. I almost cried with joy. There is so much Chicago sports paraphernalia on the walls. I ordered a Chicago hot dog and it came with fluorescent green relish. It looked the part and tasted the part. The server was friendly and efficient. And I've already made connections. It did this Chicago West Side heart happy to find my people.

I had takeout twice which was ok so I decided to try dining in. I'm a Chicagoan so I'm always looking for Chicago style food in Atlanta. The bar is nothing fancy. Just a normal sports bar with Chicago teams and flags all over. I got a chicken buffalo wrap with fries. The wrap was good but I didn't care much for the fries. They were ok but too thin for my liking and lacked seasoning. I also asked if they had "mild sauce". They told me yes but they didn't give me real Chicago style mild sauce lol I would never get whatever sauce they gave me again. I might try takeout again but I don't feel the need to go back.

Sat down because it's seat yourself. The server just looked at me and walked away. I had to go up there and get them for service. I ordered a jack and coke which took 8 minutes. It's not that busy here. He came back and I ordered food. Cheese curds and a bacon hamburger with tater tots. Burger came fast but with fries instead of tots. After I finished eating I let the server know. Burger was really good. Fries were ok but tots woulda been better. Never got the cheese curds. The only reason for 3 stars instead of 1 was because the burger was so good. Then the bears lost as usual. Ugh. The atmosphere was very chill with cheering when we could. Nice crowd, mostly groups and couples.

It's been a while since I have been to Black Bear Tavern. To my surprise, EVERYTHING is still amazing. Black Bear still provides a casual very laid-back type of environment. This was perfect as my friends and I had a long week and just wanted to partake in great laughs with great food... Upon walking in, the bartender welcomed us and advised us to sit where we would like. All of the empty tables were clean which made me very happy. LoL! Once seated, our waitress came over and greeted each of us with a warm smile and a pleasant welcome. With a traditional American Bar menu setup, we didn't require too much time to figure out what we wanted. I decided on the Southwestern Egg Rolls as my App and the Swiss and Bacon Burger as my Main! Hear Me When I Say.... Wowsersssssssssssssss!! The Southwestern Egg Rolls are packed with meat and veggies. These are not the kind of egg rolls you find in your grocer's freezer. Along with being a great portion, they were fried to golden perfection. Being set at the perfect temperature makes for a super enjoyable experience. Warm and perfectly cooked insides surrounded by Golden Fried Goodness put me in a place of tastebud-pleasing bliss. I want some more just thinking about them. LoL! The Bacon and Swiss is HUGEEEEEEEEEE... Just like I needed it to be. There is nothing like a Moist, Meaty, Well Done Burger on a Friday. Furthermore, the fresh lettuce, tomato, and pickles allow for a perfect first bite. I decided to pair my burger with Tater Tots (well done) and they literally melted in my mouth. I'm talking golden fried potatoes, lightly salted, still hot as I dipped them in the room temperature ketchup! This is how you Friday Night in the Atl. LoL! Overall, I left full, pleased with the service, and to top it all off... I had food for the next day. Oh yes... I had leftovers!!! LoL!!!

Stopped here for lunch while on business and the food and hospitality was great!! I had the awesome burger and it was really good.. I'll plan to make another stop the next time I'm in Atlanta!!

"Best Burger in Town" Everybody claims it but this place is legit! The food is very good, prices are rea$onable & I see the same patrons & staff here year in & out which says something about the "On-Site Ownership."

I'd been wanting to try this bar for some time since its a Chicago bar. I finally stopped in after a night out. Heidi made me a really great drink and was super sweet. I'd like to come back to try some of their food. Only criteria is they need better music.

This is my go to spot for Chicago sports I've told a few of my friends about Black Bear now they come! Great food and the servers are awesome.

I ordered the fried shrimp with fries. Shrimp was fair but the fries were older than father time himself , dry and tepid like the Arizona desert at night. Appears as if these hard sticks were once a lovely potato .The flagrant abomination was a true affront to the human mouth. It's as if they were taken FROM the trash. it's exactly were they belonged. Also ordered a salad, which was edible and fresh.

Awesome "Chicago" bar to watch the game or to hang out at. The staff is even better. Jen and Timmy are always a pleasure. Bonus... the food is great too!

Enjoyed a Sunday dinner at Black Bear Tavern. Great place to watch the game. My favorite burger in Atlanta.

Food once again was delicious. The TVs were on baseball and still love the decor. Service was awesome. Very attentive. We are from Jackson Alabama and have been coming to Atlanta every weekend and during the week for 2 months going to Shepherd's hospital. We are glad that we checked this place out over the past 3 weeks. Super delicious and great service. Also good cold beer.

This place is awesome! It's a Chicago dive bar. This place has plenty of free parking in the lot around the corner. We visited to watch a Bears game and definitely seems like an awesome place to catch a game. Our server was super attentive even though she was the only server on the floor. They have a huge cocktail, beer, wine menu etc. We started with the Southwestern Chicken Egg Rolls which were delicious. I got the mushroom swiss burger as my main meal and it was also good. The prices were great. This place is definitely an awesome dive bar, and if you're a Chicago sports fan this seems like a great place to watch a game.

Everything was tasty. The tea was delicious. My sautéed spinach was good my turkey burger my girlfriends turkey burger it was very good. The only thing it's too dark in there.

The service was great. But let me start with parking. If you can't park on the street there's additional parking in back just got to the left of the building. The service was great the waitress see to be the one doing it all. The food on the other hand was lack luster. I ordered the Louisiana Cajun burger and it looked liked the sprinkled a little bit of tony seasoning on the top. The burger it self had no taste and the ranch had no flavor. I got tator tots and I like ranch. But the drink were good.

We were in search of a late night spot to grab food and drinks. We found black bear and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the Louisiana Cajun burger - burger was really good. It was cooked well done, we usually go for medium burgers. It wasn't dried out though. Not a lot of salt but definitely Cajun flavor and cheese was good. We also ordered wings- mild flavor with some of their house hot sauce on side. Wings were cooked well. Normal buffalo wing flavor. We also did the chicken tenders with fries. The tenders were cooked well with a nice flavor. They have shoe string fries that were served with all meals. Our waitress was great, super friendly and helpful. It's a great dive bar with good service and food. They also have darts and TVs. We'll definitely go back! Try them out.

This was one of the best bars I have ever been to I watched a bears game and it was one of the best environments I have ever been a part of as a bears fan the staff was very hospitable and I ordered their most recent special and it was amazing.

what has been my favorite bar in atlanta for the last year feels to be going down the drain. their food is undeniably some of the best bar food i've ever had but all the original bartenders have left. last 3 times ive gone i sat at my table for 30 minutes with no service even when it is not packed. to top it off, they actively turn off chicago sports for other college games and will not change other tv's to accomodate. its a shame.

I've passed this place many times. I think I was put off by the Chicago Bears flag hanging out front. Lol. Not that at all. I'm either over this way at a doctor's appointment or having brunch near by. Today I wanted a burger. It is definitely a dive bar. I do love a dive bar. Plenty of tvs. Simple bar food. Great selection of beer on tap and bottled. I had the black bear burger. Delicious is the word that comes to mind. I get my burger medium rare. Lot's of places don't care and just do medium. This was truly medium rare. And did I mention the coleslaw I got as my side? Really really good. And I am a coleslaw snob. I'll have to bring Hubby here. He'd love the hot dogs. I just won't tell him about the flag.

Fantastic experience ordering takeout while we are in the hospital expecting our twins. Placed an order online and food was ready for pickup in 25 minutes as quoted! The cheese curds were tasty and my wife's buffalo chicken wrap was very, very good. I had a chopped salad with grilled chicken that was a healthy protein portion. Pick up was easy too. The person that helped me was very nice. We've visited Black Bear numerous times in the past too and always enjoy the neighborhood feel to it. Everything is decently priced too. Highly recommended!

Most of the food I've had has always pretty solid. The employees are always super sweet and helpful. The Bacon Mac and Cheese though, I feel like I think about it weekly. It's ungodly. I had a sub par experience recently for the first time and reached out about it and they were beyond accommodating. I also feel like my concern was heard and my confidence in them is unwavered. Anywhere establishment out there is prone to having an off moment. Its all about they handle it. Thanks again to the amazing staff.

The food is always delicious and the service is terrible. Working across the street from this bar makes it a great after work spot. The waitress we had named Megan was so rude when our party arrived and would take drink orders and forget to bring them. She had an attitude when asked for service. I don't think we will return for anything other than a to-go order. They also require ID to enter, but that rule is not upheld for the friends of the workers when they brought their children in to have dinner in this bar.

One word: very nice. This place absolutely f***ks can't get enough of that steak sandwich. I'm gonna bring my child into manhood eating belly busters off the menu but he ain't get none of that perfectly pour Guinness til he get that age right you nomsayin

Our first night in town for a baseball tournament with our two teen boys. I searched Yelp for best chicken wings in the area. We took the hotel shuttle to Black Bear Tavern. Upon walking in the door, we were not welcomed. The rude bar tender, said "are they 21, otherwise we can make you to go food." After leaving, we looked at the website which states that you must be 21 in very small font under the business hours. Parents beware!!!!

I have such mixed reviews about this place... I liked the neighborhood feel of it and the music was good. Customer Service was great as well. Both me and my boyfriend, ordered a burger. The meat had me with diarrhea and my boyfriend damn near pooped on himself. The burgers had our stomachs fuuuuuuuuuuucked up.

Stop by here to watch some of the NBA Draft.. Service was kind of terrible, the energy and vibes from the waitress was wack. We ordered water and a few drinks to watch the draft... As we was chilling and enjoying our company, a BIG BLACK ROACH dropped from the ceiling on to our table!!!!!! It was so nasty, the server didn't try to help or make sure everything was ok or nothing.... I won't never go here again and I don't think anybody else should either.. Fucking disgusting!! THIS PLACE HAS ROACHES!!!!

Ep. 74 of AntlantaEats To the folks from Chicago or Sport lovers, I found a place that'll cater your needs! This is the oldest bar on Peachtree Rd. The Owner Timmy (Chicago native) took over this spot in 2014. Known for their Burgers, I experienced the 'Louisiana Cajun' Burger (medium well) w/ Monterrey jack cheese. Let me highlight the Mac + Cheese!! They put Queso dip on top (I've never seen that concept before). Well it worked!!! I would give this bar a zero if possible. I have worked in the service industry as a server in fine dining as well as casual and breweries for several years, never have I been so disrespected and appalled at behavior of a server. A young friend was celebrating his 21st birthday and we went to this bar as it was close, for him to show his ID and get a drink as one does on their 21st birthday. This was a saturday night. We were a group of 15 total, we walked in and headed to to the bar, when a server started aggressively pulling tables together and told us to sit (not kindly) at the tables, it was clear she was either stressed or unhappy at us being a big group. I asked if our group could order at the bar, as I knew only some few of us would be drinking, and didn't want to take a table. She responded "no, you'll order from me" in a direct and aggressive tone, she started taking orders and was clearly unhappy when multiple people said they didn't want anything, again, we just wanted our friend to be able to order a drink on his 21st, and it wasn't our intention to take her tables, also, there were several open table, and no wait line or any kind of busy service occurring. When she got to our side of the table, she asked for our order and we said nothing thank you, she offered us water, and we said no thank you, as we didn't want to give her the extra work of pouring and eventually clearing a bunch of waters. She then looked at us and said "you don't want anything? nothing?" in a sassy and rude way, then I proceeded to explain again that it was our friends bday, which she said she knew already, and that this is why we tried to just order at the bar, not to take her tables with 15 people. she tried to say that she's a server and this is her tables, but it was at the point where we had asked not to be seated at a table, and honestly had been met with so much attitude that any chance of us ordering a drink had passed. Then even after five people ordered, she went to the kitchen and was clearly talking to her coworkers about her unhappiness with what was going on. The manager (i assume, or bartender) came over to our side of the table and explained that there was a ten dollar minimum per person, and that we were taking her tables. We got up and left, no one received a drink. We were met with attitude from the beginning just for being a bigger group, even though the restaurant was almost empty. I didn't see, nor were we told, even when ordering or not ordering that there was a minimum until after she knew a bunch of us weren't ordering. We tried to be respectful, and all we got was attitude. It's ridiculous that in an almost empty bar, on a saturday night, before 11 you wouldn't want to take even five people's order. Trying to pretend there's a minimum, when it was never told to us when we came in, sat, or ordered... I would NEVER go here again and I don't recommend others go as well. So many great places in the city, spend your money elsewhere. HORRIBLE service.

The owner or Manager was really disrespectful and lack customer service. I will never eat at this restaurant again due to the customer service and professionalism. Rude, he cursed at me

I was visiting friends in Atlanta & BBT was close by so we decided to try it for dinner. It was so good!! Dee, our bartender & server, was super friendly & helpful. The loaded potato skins were the best I've ever had & the burger was great!

I don't leave reviews ever but I had to because this bartender named Tori literally went out of her way and she knows everyone's name was so sweet and nice and gave great advice about what to get and what specials they had. She is truly a joy and I'll most definitely be back every Friday to see her behind the bar!!!!!

We came here after a dr.'s appt at piedmont. Not disappointed! The Chicago cuisine was totally on point! Chicago dog and Chicago Italian beef sandwich were awesome! We've been to Chicago and this is legit. The bartender Derek was awesome. This place smells clean despite being labeled a "dive bar". Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Drinks were great and atmosphere and company were great! Nice sports bar vibe. We'll definitely be back!

Love when I stumble across a new place. Especially love when the place surprised me. This looks like a dark bar...and it is. However, this place serves AWESOME burgers! Making it a fantastic anytime place. All burger Pattie's are made fresh daily, nothing is frozen. Will definitely return.

This was my first time trying Black Bear Tavern. When i walked in i wasn't sure where to go to pick up my order but a worker approached and asked if i was picking up. The order was done before scheduled time (a plus since it was my lunch break) and it was hot. I ordered a burger and fries and it was awesomely the bun is buttered and toasted so you really can't go wrong there. The fries were plentiful and cooked well. I will definitely be returning

Good food, open late, nice bar, great location. My first visit involved a friend cooking there, and I've been visiting every once in a while ever since. Reliable.

They did me dirty! Gave me old fries! Everyone knows how old fries taste after you warm them up! They were dry and stale tasting. I even squeezed one to see if any oil came out because I knew I had to be tripping. There's no way they gave me warmed up fries! Had the nerve to sprinkle some seasoning salt over them! I placed a to go order sat at the bar and waited. I was the only 1 there. They probably hadn't turned on the fryer yet..idk but damn don't do that to people! Pisses me off! I shouldn't have turned around to try them out.. I was headed to Jimmy John's!!

One of the best burgers I have had in a long time . We are here on a Sunday so they were not very busy at 1130 . Service was great. We all had the burger and glad we did I had tots which were crispy and good Will definitely return when in town.
