How to Experience Milwaukee Like a Local in 2025

"I enjoy visiting this large mural district near North Avenue in the Eastside for public art, plus nearby restaurants, breweries, and artisanal shops." - Matthew Kepnes

We've been trying to make it here for a few years but we either can't find any parking near there or run out of time. We went and had lunch at Comet Cafe and decided to walk down to Black Cat Alley. I'm so happy we did, it was absolutely beautiful with such a cool variety of different art throughout.

Small but mighty.. I always love an art filled alley so this was in the must stop list while in Milwaukee. Various pieces throughout the alley with a mix of subjects and styles. Super cool that the area allows these artists to thrive here.

Great little spot for art lovers. Easy to find, but very small. Literally, an alley. You can walk through it, view every piece of art & take photos...all in under 10 minutes. The surrounding area has eateries for all tastes. Walkable neighborhood nearby, too.

One of the most amazing places I've seen on my adventures. The artwork is absolutely incredible and the vibe, it's... magical! I can't wait to return.

This open-air alley is filled with rotating murals, bold color, and great energy. It’s the kind of place where you can take your time wandering, snapping photos, and noticing new little details in the art. Each piece feels intentional and expressive — definitely more than just “street art,” it’s a creative experience. We visited on a weekday and had plenty of room to walk and take pictures without crowds. No wait, no tickets needed — just show up and enjoy. It’s an easy add-on if you’re exploring the East Side or grabbing coffee or food nearby.

Certainly worth a stop. The artwork was a delight and conveniently located. This is a free attraction however, on their website there is an option to donate to the East Side Business Improvement District through PayPal. I visited early on a Sunday morning and there was a lot of trash in the alley (to the point you really had to watch where you were walking) so that was a little off-putting. From other photos I’ve seen, the area usually looks cleaner so maybe there was an event nearby the night before? Regardless - the artwork is phenomenal!

If you love art, this is a great alley to go. Plenty of cafes around. A good place to spend an afternoon

Good part of town to walk around, especially this hidden alley of creativity. We need more of these places. Promotes diversity of thought and expression in a non-combative format.
