Google
Their burritos are awesome but the star of the show are the steak chimichurri tacos. Flavorful, tender meat, and just an absolutely slamming dish all around. The atmosphere is on point too with a grunge kind of vibe that I like with excellent service too!

I have eaten here for about nineteen years. Several years ago, a new owner bought the place. Now, the burritos don't match the descriptions. The chicken wing burrito I ate tonight had beans in it, no ranch, no texas pete and a whole ton of cumin. It was like a cumin burrito. Some of the food is still good but don't expect any of the old magic.

We have been coming to Black Cat for over 20 years and it has progressively gotten worse. The queso and salsa were the best thing. The Don't be a jerk beritto was very bland with very little taste. The food has really changed over the last several years. It is not worth driving from Rock hill anymore. It needs a major change. The owner needs to read the bad reviews and listen to all the customers. Everyone can't be wrong.

The burrito steak portions were amazing. The service was excellent. The goths working the front looked cool AF. I'm down for another visit.

Updated March 2, 2024. My wife and I love to dine hear. We stopped by around 6:50pm. It was packed as usual that time of night. So we decided to walk around a bit and came back around 7:45pm. We both had their Build your own Burrito. You start by selecting the tortilla you'd like. We both chose spinach. Next, your bean selection. You also have a variety of proteins and veggies to chose. The meal comes with a choice of salsa, chips and their delicious slaw. I'd recommend the mango salsa. Also, I'd recommend getting extra slaw for 50 cents. Tonight, as always, our meals came out very fast. Both our meals were delicious. My wife always has ½ her meal left over, so we get a to go box. I'm full after all that food. I'd highly recommend. 2022. They closed for a bit and so happy they reopened. 1st time I've ever parked directly outside the front door. Meant to take a picture of food. Had burrito so not much of a picture to show. Food excellent. Seating comfortable. I'd highly recommend. Enjoy.

Now this is off King St, but worth a trip. Great food and drinks. 6 beers on tap and a good selection of drinks specials. Try the Shifter if you go. You're welcome.

Pretty cool atmosphere, very unique burrito menu. Tried zorba the Greek and brotherly love. Both were excellent. Only disappointment was the salsa sampler, not bad, just o.k.

Google
Food was extremely bland with no seasoning. There were 2 servers behind the bar. One was kind and friendly but the other seemed as though she didn't want to be there. A simple question such as, can I get salt led her to a non-verbal point in a direction that left me confused, then proceeded to hand me the kitchen salt shaker which was absolutely disgusting and caked with stuff. 93.5 sanitation rating is not a good score and the Chef behind the bar was handed a large can of Pabst blue ribbon at 11:45 in the morning where he proceeded to drink it. I Would never recommend this place to anyone! I've been a Chef for over 20 years and would never work here! The only cool thing was the bar top which was glowing. That was cool.

Yelp
It's been a couple years, but we're back at the Black Cat! Once again I could it vary from my standard choice, and the only item i have ever ordered here--Don't Be A Jerk. I think this could be my 10th time ordering. Saturday 18:30 before Natalie merchant concert. Small line. Moved fast. Simply an enormous amount of food for the price. Good stuff

Yelp
The workers here are friendly college students. The person at the counter with the dramatic emo clothing was friendly and accommodating. She made me pine for my own undergraduate days. We liked her a lot. The atmosphere here is fun. With the good beer selection, this is definitely a good college student haunt. The guac was nearly perfect, which says a lot, because I tend to loathe smooth / non-chunky guac. It taught me something: I *can* like smooth guac! I'd give it an A! The chips are kind of meh. Store bought. B- I'd give the Cheeseburgerrito an A. The pickles worked remarkably good; if I ordered this again, I'd ask for extra pickles. If you have kids, this is perfect, and a single burrito easily fed both my 5 and 9 year old. The nachos are big fat fail. F!!! They were dry, boring, and **desperately** needed more cheese, by double, and for the cheese to be melted to distribute the fats and oils to the chips underneath. They used real cheese, which is the way to do it, but shredded room temp cheese just doesn't cut the mustard. The only thing that saved the dish for me was that I ordered a cup of chimichurri sauce, which provided the much needed oil and moisture. The chimichurri sauce was very tasty, but *slightly* bland. It should've had a little more garlic, but chimichurri sauce from Latin America is probably a little too much garlic for the typical American palate. I'd give it a B+. Another big fat fail was the steak. OMG. F!!! The steak was so tough there were a few pieces I had to pick out of my mouth and place it on the side of my plate. Wow, guys! I can't figure out if nobody here eats the food or if they just don't care because of employee discount, but that steak was horrendous! So if it seems like I'm saying the good was very good and the bad was horrid, that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm still giving this establishment two stars instead of 3 because I *refuse* to believe that the manager of this store would sample the nachos and the steak and say "Yup, those are excellent products!". They are objectively bad, which makes me think that nobody is keeping watch of the quality of the food.

Charlie S.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere and good service but the food was a bit mediocre, especially for the price. Burritos were overly packed with rice. The food wasn't really my thing but worth a shot.

Chris T.

Yelp
My favorite burrito spot 20 years ago when I went to App State...and still my favorite today. I went last weekend and didn't order the usual (chicken wing) but tried the hamburger burrito. It was excellent!

M. F.

Yelp
Stopped in after the football game, most restaurants had long waits and Black Cat is a walk up counter to order so getting food quickly was a plus since we were beyond hungry! Food was hot, delicious and portions were nice. Our group of six each orders something different but we loved all of it!

Emma D.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the cheeseburgerrito and we also got the black cat salad which was pretty good as well. Nice service would go back again.

Nata D.

Yelp
The portions & flavor were absolutely delicious. We went out looking for some mexican food & we're not disappointed here. There was a big party that had ordered ahead of us but our food had come out very quickly regardless! The employees were great & service was quick. We got full & enjoyed every bite! Would recommend !

Cori W.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday afternoon with both DDs, DH and DD boyfriend. We had just done the mountain coaster and was ready for lunch. Chips were good, but the salsa was amazing. I think maybe they put crack in it. Lol. The burritos were huge and lots of things to choose from as well as a make your own. The atmosphere was a bit dark and eclectic.

Marty M.

Yelp
Veggie and tofu quesadilla was excellent! Salsa was good, chips were crunchy, Valentina in the bottle, and the PBR on tap and cold. Kinda hard to beat the combo! Service was friendly and food came out quickly. Cozy fun spot down under on Depot Street half block from Mast General with a casual hippie/hipster vibe.

Sarah D.

Yelp
The burritos were great, service was quick! It has a casual and college like ambiance!

Alec A.

Yelp
The ingredients are top notch, not cheap proteins used as fillers. This is a solid choice anytime of the day! Great combinations of burritos as well as ability to create your own. The chips are warm and taste locally made. The sauces are authentic and full of flavor. The service is always warm and welcoming! Eating in has a cool college vibe that keeps things real. Definitely a great spot to hit up every time in Boone! Keep Boone original!!!

Evan Y.

Yelp
Jerk Burrito. Interesting and delicious flavor combinations! The burritos were stuffed full and totally satisfying. The coleslaw on the side was also a nice touch. It's sweetness cut the spicy topping of the burrito. Also the restaurant atmosphere was definitely different and more casual but fitting for the food.

Kyle C.

Yelp
Stopped in today around 2:30. Food phenomenal. Portions massive. Service way above average and far beyond just about anywhere we've been in this entire area. Very inexpensive for what you get. Haven't seen a $1 draft in over a decade. Great vibe inside only to be bolstered by the upbeat aura of the staff. Nice to see someone give a shit about what they are doing and who they are doing it for in a time when quality service is becoming a lost art. Skip the overpriced pans of trash at Chipotle and give this place your business. They won't disappoint.

Nicolas G.

Yelp
This place had been on my radar for some time. This place was fantastic. A little hole in the wall, but the food was great. I had the Don't Be A Jerk burrito with chicken, which was great. My wife had the steak enchiladas ... the flavor was fantastic. All good. We all agreed that we'll come back again next time we're in town.

Erin W.

Yelp
Such a solid burrito spot!! We wanted a meal to take back to our campsite and this was perfect Vibe: Grungy, casual vibe which we loved. No frills and come as you are. Stickers everywhere inside. The inside is underground and small-ish, no outdoor seating Menu: Love all the funky burrito flavors & vegetarian options! Reminds me of flaming Amy's in Wilmington. Love the BBQ trash burrito and Sage burrito. So flavorful and jam packed! I wasn't a fan of the salsa sampler (none were memorable) but wanna try the Queso next time Parking: No parking lot in front, some street parking and a pay lot up the hill (4 min walk) Covid: Clean pens, plastic dividers at checkout. No outside seating though

Patrick L.

Yelp
Great food. Awesome atmosphere. Good to unwind after a day with the family in the Boone area.

A S.

Yelp
I got the brotherly love burrito. Delicious. Also got the steak chimichuri. Also really good. We got the sampler with the mango salsa and the queso, guacamole, and salsa were amazing. Definitely recommend.

Alissa D.

Yelp
First time here and really enjoyed it! The girl at the counter was very helpful when asked about vegan options. I got the Lesson of the Sage Burrito- made vegan by removing the garlic aioli. I tried the Coconut Curry sauce on the side and while its tasty I will say it's not for me. Just not a huge coconut girl A heads up - The guacamole is not vegan and does contain sour cream. All tortillas are vegan except for the Chipotle. Would love to come back for sure. Cool environment too. Awesome portions for price

Matthew R.

Yelp
Food was good but i don't like mexican cuisine at all. The workers didn't even seat us and it was very informal. The place felt odd and the tvs were small. p.s. roaches!

Julie G.

Yelp
Service was great! This was the first time we visited and we will be back. The chorizo queso was absolutely amazing. Chips nice and crispy. Burrito was huge. I got the chicken brotherly love burrito and added black beans. Flavors were all around great.

Gisselle c.

Yelp
Not the best, meat taste weird and the chips are SUPEER salty.Plus no menus so it's hard to see what there is to eat

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
Visited while on vacation and we absolutely loved the food! The burritos are huge. The queso fries are incredible.

JJ C.

Yelp
Great service, great food!! This will be a go to spot in our future trips to Boone. The burritos were amazing! The folks there were very nice!

Jason G.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow at first. but overall this is a great place to eat. you won't go away hungry. they feed you well here. I like the variety of items to choose from. and the interior is pretty hip too. stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Emily N.

Yelp
Delicious food, awesome atmosphere, and fast service! I had the chicken enchiladas, and they were great.

Caleb S.

Yelp
we ate here on Thursday evening. the space is a "hole in the wall", shabby chic kind of place on a side street in Boone. you order at the register using an online menu (QR code). I had a vegetarian burrito with garlic sauce topping. very tasty! our server was cheerful and helpful. and the beer was cheap ($2 Dos Equis)!!

Allie U.

Yelp
I am thrilled to report that Black Cat is back up and running again. Their burritos are highly customizable, vegetarian friendly and absolutely carnivore approved. The fantastic salsas, queso, and my absolute favorite slaw ever are made super fresh everyday in house. Don't Be A Jerk (spicy chicken w/ lots of grilled pineapple and other delicious things) was my go to from back in the day, and it still holds up. Trust me on this one. The boyfriend has gotten the Burrito of Brotherly Love every time we have ever eaten here over the years. Grab your own silverware and hot sauce when you go to pick out a table after paying at the counter. They bring the food right to you. I do have to admit I miss the old toys they used in place of table numbers!

Missy S.

Yelp
Stopped for quick lunch! It was so good! I had the White Trash Burrito! It was huge! Loaded with BBQ chicken, it had a bit of heat that really amped it up. Enjoyed an icy cold PBR! Great combo! Food came out fast! Thanks much for the great lunch!

Dawn C.

Yelp
Very Covid careful. Very delicious. I had the jerk chicken burrito and brown ale. Recommend both. Servers were friendly and professional.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Very impressed. The quest and the guacamole are delicious. Service was also great. Everyone was very friendly. We will absolutely be going again.

Kayla M.

Yelp
Local staple. You can not go to Boone and not hit Black Cat. In our case, we went twice in three days. If you are Struggling with what to get on the menu just simply wait your finger around and wherever it lands go with that... You simply cannot go wrong. We got the special of the day, street corn and the mango salsa (which could win a global award). The second visit I got the pineapple mole enchiladas and again the mango salsa. The place is trendy, cool with a grungy mountain Town vibes. They have the cheapest and best beer/shots in town too. Can someone please hear my cry for help and open a Black Cat in Charlotte. Go go black cat. Always.

Brittany L.

Yelp
We are in town on a mom's weekend away. We had such a delicious dinner last night at Black Cat! I ordered the chorizo nachos and they did not disappoint. When I asked my friends who went to App / used to live in Boone where we should eat they pretty much all had Black Cat on their list. It's super cute place with an excellent menu. And I loved the nostalgic scene / pop punk music playing in the background. All around I loved this place. And will def be visiting again on our next trip to Boone! Love y'all.

Phillip C.

Yelp
Ordered the Jerk and Thai burritos, food was excellent. Restaurant was busy and food came out fast. The staff had a few questionable sanitation practices (or lack of) that I noticed during my visit. As a local who's enjoyed this establishment since it's conception, please please please do something about this health score.

Duane W.

Yelp
This funky spot has a dive feel to it but dont be fooled, the food here is amazing. I had the geek tacos and the land was sliced thin and it melts in your mouth. Great menu, awesome staff and a meal that makes your taste buds happy

Nina C.

Yelp
Black Cat burrito has the worst cashier. I eat there a lot because the food is delicious, but twice this week when I called, the same female cashier says "hello can you hold on for just a moment I'll be right with you" so I waited over 30 mins and hung up. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for maybe being busy so I drove over and the phone was off the hook on the counter and she was outside smoking a cig and then came inside took my order and just kept chillin on her phone. I called again today and the same thing happened except I waited for 52 mins just to take a screenshot of how ridiculous this is. I feel bad for the owners for how much business she is losing them, and it's disrespectful and RUDE. The only reason I gave 1 one star is because of how good the food is. There are plenty of other people looking for jobs who would be grateful to have hers.

McKenna S.

Yelp
It is always a treat to go to Black Cat! There burritos are so unique and DELICIOUS! I will rave about the "thai me up" burrito till I am blue in the face. The nachos are a great snack if your just passing through. The atmosphere is fun and casual. The perfect place to bring a date, out of town guests, or when your just hungover.

Annika S.

Yelp
Just went here for dinner, I've been meaning to come for forever. Man have I been missing out!!!! Best queso in Boone and the chips are awesome too. My burrito was out of this world and my boyfriend loved his quesadilla. They were busy and apologized for our wait on take out but I didn't mind and it was still piping hot after getting back to my apartment. Don't skip this place. Everyone needs to try it. The environment inside wasn't for me but since the take out was still awesome when I got back to my apartment I'll definitely keep going back. All the staff was super nice too.

Billy B.

Yelp
(To go) Food comes out fast, I got the "Cheeseburgerrito" ($9.75 one of their most expensive "burritos") and Chips and Guacamole, the chips and guacamole were pretty good. However the burrito it's self was not that great for this being one of their most expensive burritos. This burrito does come with stake however for the size of the burrito compared to their other burritos, the price doesn't match up. I do plan on going back and trying some of their other burritos options, and explore their menu.

Who_dat_is_ T.

Yelp
Glad this place is still here. One of the few local stickers you will see all over the country. Keep it up yall.

Stephan R.

Yelp
Cool little burrito spot the " don't be a jerk burrito is amazing. Great food and nice little ambiance. Better than all the chain spots like chipotle and Tijuana flats.

Lita L.

Yelp
We love stopping here to eat whenever we are in town. We had the Cajun burrito this time, which we shared, which was shrimp, sausage, black beans, and rice, and not only is it huge, it is tasty, and it's topped with spicy hot salsa, which I used with the fresh tortilla chips with came with the burrito. They offered a $2 16 ounce PBR draft, but it was served in a warm glass, which does not make for a cold beer, hence my deduction of one star. We'll be back, though.

Letty L.

Yelp
Stopped here to get a burrito to go! Very yummy and fast and good service - didn't have to wait too long and all in all great experience

Marissa J.

Yelp
So delicious fast-casual burritos. Plenty of fun combinations. I'm full and happy and ate so fast I forgot a photo. Our takeout order took about 30 minutes to fill.

Jessica D.

Yelp
DO. NOT. EAT. AT. THIS. POOR. EXCUSE. OF. A. "RESTAURANT." CONTACTING THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TOMORROW. Not only is the wait staff EXTREMELY RUDE but the service and food is just as worse. I have eaten in the worst restaurants in NC but this one takes the cake. We were provided with USED MASKS. That had an excessive amount of animal hair on them. I almost feel as thought that it more unsanitary than COVID!!! After wearing the animal hair infested masks, we were provided ICE COLD queso and stale chips. YUMMY! So many things were wrong including the waitress who would not pull her sweatshirt down, the "manager" who provided her customers with used and hairy masks, and the workers in the kitchen screaming across the restaurant at customers to wear masks. I am not one to complain but this restaurant is absolutely trash compared to the other restaurants surrounding it. SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME and go somewhere else. PLEASE. Do not give this restaurant anymore business.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Black cat is a must have when in town! I grew up going here for lunch or dinner on the weekends or in between classes and always look forward to having it when I come back to visit!! The Brussels sprouts are delicious and the perfect amount of spice and I always love the "Don't be a Jerk" burrito!

Megan P.

Yelp
Don't get anything with shrimp in it; they use the extra small salad shrimp. Everything else I have had here has been pretty good. Their salsa comes in very small servings.

John S.

Yelp
I had to check this place out after reading the Yelp reviews. I have to say, lunch started out fairly sketchy, the place was pretty empty when we walked in, not a server in sight, and the restaurant was a bit on the college grunge side - not exactly "clean as a whistle" . She encouraged patience, not my strong suit, and after knocking on the bar, a server appeared from the kitchen. She had the Thai Me Up, I had the Don't Be A Jerk - absolutely one of the best damn burritos I have had at any price. FANTASTIC!!!!! Tasty, huge - she could not finish but half of her's!! If somebody would find a mop and spruce the joint up a bit it would be 5 star for sure. You have to try this place!!!!

Vanessa B.

Yelp
This place is a Boone staple! Don't miss out on this great place for a beer and some delicious burritos. The service is great and just a fun overall place right in town.

Molly W.

Yelp
ohmygoodness After 6 hours in the car, my roadtrip partner and I were joking around saying we'd kill for some burritos, but were so hungry that we walked into the first open restaurant we could find. God was on my side, for we walked into Black Cat. Organic, fresh, local, healthy and YUMMY! Thai burrito isn't exactly mexican, but it IS delish. Next time I am in Boone, I am fueling up here!
