Google
This is my type of place. Was in town from Boston and looking for some coffee and breakfast and found this place where near I was staying!! Super cozy breakfast restaurant vibe inside with local artists work on the walls. I got a great iced latte, a really yummy cheesy bacon egg and cheese on a roll, and an insanely good raspberry crumb cake. Everything came out quickly and I think the prices were good. I want to know the details on the crumb cake because the crumb layer was SO THICK and delicious.

Had this on my "wanna go to" list, and I'm glad I was able to go. It's a smaller Cafe, but VERY GOOD. Was pretty busy when we first got there, & felt bad for the woman taking, filling, & taking the orders to the very full tables. She did have some help show up, shortly after we ordered. Food was GREAT, for as busy as it was, it was very clean. Staff was very nice, highly recommend.

Sweetest cafe in Irvington, New York. Clean space, service is smooth and quick, food is fresh, and they have an array of pastry options. We tried the honey turkey sandwich, tiramisu, and cappuccino- everything was just right and the portions perfect. You’ll feel at home inside; ideal for breakfast, brunch or for study. Side note that it is Albanian owned and operated, so we already knew it would be good. Can’t wait to be back! 💪🏻👌🏻

Google
Very cute cafe. There’s a breakfast and lunch menu, along with a small bakery. Breakfast ends at 1pm, and we got there a few minutes after one, but they let us order from the breakfast menu, which was greatly appreciated. The food was good, and the place was clean. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Small and cozy cafe. Got the iced mocha and the coffe was quite good.

Google
This quaint little cafe was very nice and the couple provided good service. I had the homefries, egg sandwich on a croissant and a blueberry muffin. All of which were very good. Great atmosphere!

Google
Nice little Cafe for breakfast or lunch. Self service counter with limited seating. Coffee is fantastic and they do have gluten free bread for toast to go with omelets or to make sandwiches. I would be careful if you're very sensitive as I'm not sure about cross contamination.

Google
Stopped in for breakfast and coffee. Loved the vibe and the food was delicious. Their tea selection was amazing as well and I definitely want to come back to try some of those. Needed coffee for morning though.

Yelp
Everything about this place was fabulous. The options, the people are superb and friendly. Cannot recommend this place enough. The food was so good and the wait was not long, no wait really. Food tasted so good. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
A quick lunch stop on driving to the Finger Lakes. Good service and tasty sandwich ("Thanksgiving Dinner") and chicken curry (the better dish!). Plenty of parking at the back. Damages with tip for 2 was $45.

Yelp
Great coffee, food and service. We did a dirty chai and an iced caramel latte, both of which were fantastic. For food, the egg sandwich was perfect. Quiche was not my favorite. Highly recommend for coffee and breakfast sandwiches though.

Yelp
Very new to the area but found a fantastic local favorite. We came for the breakfast sandwich and stayed for the legos. The cafe is warm and inviting, has ample seating, and I love the iced coffee. My son and I split the breakfast sam two days in a row (it's huge, and he's 2 so we share ha!). The folks that run it seem straightforward and businesslike but they know their locals and made some jokes with us when we left. I liked the entire experience enough to go back two days in a row

Yelp
Cute little café off of Main Street ice if you're hanging out in the little town or on your way towards the water. Definitely offers a good variety of sandwiches and fries and chips. Cute little lunch spot. Coffee is not so bad.

Yelp
Good coffee & burrito. Place was packed with a group in there meeting for some kind of event. Didn't stay but would have liked to!

Yelp
Five stars across the board for this hidden gem. I have a thing for french toast - always have. Until today, I considered my own recipe the world's best, but I was easily unseated by Black Cat Cafe's rendition. Topped with a ton of fresh fruit, the french toast was cooked to perfection and was so expertly seasoned, there was no need for butter, syrup, etc. Owner Andy was a gracious, affable host in a cozy little cafe with beautiful art work decorating the walls and TONS of natural light. As you enter and exit, you're treated to a gorgeous view of the Hudson River. Do yourself a flavor favor and stop in if you're anywhere in the vicinity of NYC.

Yelp
**This review is based from before the pandemic and before new ownership. So my opinion is not based towards the cafe as of now because I have not been there since 2020. The last owner was a nasty woman. It was only a matter of time she would go out of business or ask the community to re open through go fund me. The food was mediocre, the atmosphere isn't great, it's cramped and not in a cozy way. Before they closed I confirmed that their kitchen was roach infested. Which to be completely honest is the case for so many New York eateries/restaurants. She (the prior owner) never tried to address the issue, did not hire an exterminator which is just absurd. I have not been back since under new management, hoping things have gotten better!

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a Sunday after a short hike. Super cute and cozy inside, and it was pretty packed but we managed to find seats. The goat cheese salad was fresh and light, and the balsamic vinaigrette was perfectly sweet. My friend loved the breakfast burrito. We also got hot apple cider, which was nice and tart. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place was great! One of the only breakfast spots I found open on a Thursday by Tarrytown and it did not disappoint. The food was great and very affordable, they had outdoor seating so I could bring my dog. The staff is small and friendly, 3 person operation and they got the food out quickly I think I waited longer to order than get my food which was impressive. They run a very efficient business! We all got different things and everyone was happy. They serve breakfast late and have an extensive lunch menu as well. Coffee was very good too. They were pretty busy for a Friday but it was Halloween, seemed like they were busy with locals and visitors alike. Def will go back when I'm in the area!

Yelp
Found myself in Irvington this morning, thought I would stop for a cup of coffee, and saw the sign for the Black Cat Cafe. So glad I did! I walked into a lovely, cozy, picture filled cafe and as greeted warmly by the gentleman at the counter who told me they serve breakfast and lunch also. As a person with Celiac disease I was pleasantly surprised that they had gluten free bread. I ordered a cheese omelet with GF toast and a French vanilla latte. I sat and was served by a lovely woman at a table with a nice view of the outside. The omelet was delicious, a good sized portion cooked perfectly with creamy white cheese, the GF bread was tasty and the latte was great! I love coffee and this is one of the best. I will definitely be returning to the Black Cat Cafe!

Yelp
We stopped by today for the first time, great service and a delicious latte. It was a pleasure to sit outside with a beautiful view!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while driving down from Westchester. The cafe is cute and quaint, and the owners are very nice! We ordered the 2 eggs on a cheese roll (so so good!), french toast with berries (good size and very good too), and two coffees. Everything was good and amazing value for money. We paid about $29 with tip, which is a steal compared to where we live in California.

Yelp
This is such a great place to sit and read or work. I haven't tried any of the baked goods yet but my caprese sandwich was fresh and very satisfying. Lots of teas and coffees, chill vibes, fast and helpful staff. Awesome neighborhood spot/place to grab a snack when you're passing through.
google avatar

Yelp
Irvington is crying out for a cute, well decorated and differentiated spot to enjoy a delicious coffee and pastry or snack. Black Cat, unfortunately, is not it!

Yelp
I am so happy to hear The Black Cat Cafe is reopening. A great cozy little cafe on Main St in Irvington. They closed during COVID and I thought I'd never have the almond and chocolate croissants that I dreamed of ! Never had anything like that before!!! BEST CROISSANTS ever! Went by this morning so excited to get my favorite croissant and some cappuccino. Hate to say how disappointed I was to get what seemed to be a factory produced almond croissant. Nothing like the fresh, buttery one they have been serving for years. Ill give them the benefit of the doubt, seeing that they just reopened and maybe are starting out slow. Black Cat Cafe owners PLEASE bring back those delicious croissants again! I know it brings in myself and others who I have shared them with! Good luck on your reopening!

Yelp
I am happy to report that the Black Cat reopened a few days ago. Today my lovely wife and I enjoyed lunch at 'The Cat'. She had a #3 - Mozzarella, Tomato, and Basil on Ciabatta - and I enjoyed a #10 - Veggie Wrap with Hummus, Greens, Tomato, Avocado, Carrots, Cucumber, Sprouts, and Tahini (I opted to do without the roasted red peppers). Both were delicious and came with a yummy salad. For drinks my wife had an iced decaf coffee and I had a Pellegrino Limonata mixed with Pellegrino in a cup of ice and we were quite pleased with both. Service was excellent and the decor simple and casual. My only 'complaint' is that the artwork on commission is no longer on the walls leaving one wall looking a little bare.

Yelp
Went to the farms market this morning and it was a little cold so we went for a walk down the street to grab a cup of coffee inside. I got an Americano with a splash of oat and the Mrs got a latte of some kind. Both very strong and also warmed our hands. Prices here are great. Coffee is strong.

Yelp
I was there recently with some adults and some children and EVERYONE loved their food. Everything looked and tasted fresh and the food came out fairly quickly given our part of 8. The staff was very kind and accommodating. They moved tables for is to sit together and we were able to customize our meals. The cafe has a clear menu with lots of cool teas and smoothie options. It's a very cool casual spot with plenty of traffic, mostly of people grabbing food and drinks to go. The cafe is small but if you're willing to wait you can probably be accommodated fairly quickly! If you're in the area, try them out!

Yelp
Hubby and I popped in after gorging ourselves on BBQ from across the street. He was in the mood for an iced coffee. The woman at the register was very sweet. She took the time to explain the different coffee options they had to offer and have suggestions based on what hubby was looking for. He opted for than iced red eye and liked it a lot. He mentioned it being strong but I didn't taste since I was off caffeine during that time. I love these little villages, sprinkled throughout the Hudson Valley. They're so walkable, with beautiful views of the Hudson and lush greenery, depending upon the season.

Yelp
Staff was friendly and service was great. I liked their iced latte and bakery. I saw a photo of their french toast so I wanted to check it out. IT WAS SO AMAZING!! The french toast was perfectly made, topped with strawberries, blueberries, shredded apples, and pineapples (I think, it was a few weeks ago! ) I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Neighborhood coffee place with food breakfast too. Healthy options. Order at the counter though.

Yelp
A great neighborhood cafe on a quiet treelined street. On a business, I was grabbing breakfast and getting some work done - what a perfect spot this was! This place is CASH ONLY - so I had to scram and luckily found a Chase ATM next door. I got coffee and oatmeal to stay and got to work at a window seat. Coffee was fragrant though a bit weak while oatmeal was nicely portioned and satisfying with all the berries and such. My only turnoff was when I asked for a refill in my thermo on the way out, the owner charged me $1. Was that really necessary? While not a big deal, I certainly didn't become a fan. Don't get me wrong - it's a good place like all the rest are saying but my experience wasn't.

Yelp
Dined here on our recent trip to Sleepy Hollow and were very impressed. The owners are friendly and also very efficient. Lots of foot traffic and lightning quick turnaround time in the kitchen. Excellent coffee, breakfast, lunch, etc. They also have healthy, high quality juices (and smoothies). Most surprising of all for the area, the prices are good! Very cozy cafe and everything you're hoping for when stopping into a placed called Black Cat Cafe. We hope to stop in again sometime! Thanks!!

Yelp
I'm happy that this local business is back open, but buyer beware: everything is very, very overpriced! It pains me to say that Main Street in Irvington has gone seriously downhill over the past few years (especially compared to Main Street in Tarrytown, which flourishes with affordable, lively places to eat and shop); between this and other overpriced restaurants -- Chutney, Mima, La Chinita, etc. -- Main Street has mutated into an exclusive strip of land boasting just average food. The mocha breakfast smoothie wasn't a smoothie -- it was more like a juice consisting of 85% ice. The banana wasn't blended thoroughly, leaving chunks of mushy banana mixed in throughout the drink. Also, the menu says that two sizes of smoothies are available: 20 oz and 24 oz. However, that was meaningless the last time I visited Black Cat -- I received drinks of the same size despite ordering different sizes. On a more positive note, the sandwiches and wraps are big, and the service is amiable. And, I get it: all restaurants took a hit during Covid, Black Cat being no exception. I've seen much worse restaurants.

Yelp
I was very happy to find this place a short walk uphill from the train station. I had a simple breakfast of oatmeal and fruit, and a coffee. It was perfect. Love the ambiance

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Out here visiting a friend from AZ and we both stumbled upon this place. Food is so good and service is amazing. We've already gone twice! We will be back again. Thank you!

Yelp
Quiet little cafe with great food! On a weekday it's not busy and you get your food quickly. Everything was delicious and fresh.

Yelp
2023 update: Wonderful to have the Black Cat Cafe back! In today, I have perfect panini, spouse had miraculous minestrone. A delight. I've been coming to this gem of a cafe on and off for several years (I live in Manhattan but come to the area regularly for work). The veggie soups are simply the best I've ever had, and the coffee and chocolate desserts a perfect complement. A treasure!

Yelp
I'm always on the look out for a café serving Chai or a rich cup of Hot Cocoa and Black Cat Café only met my needs half way in the Chai Department. Apart from Black Cat Café being located in cozy Irvington with a grand Hudson River backdrop, the focus though, is on how inviting Black Café is: natural wood floors, the country-looking hutch that's used as a hot-beverage station and the overall design, hitting it off real nice inside with a totally rustic layout and displayed local art. Large overhead menu, highlights more than just coffee. An endless list of Teas are offered, 2 types of Chai (one includes 2 shots of espresso- which I gladly passed), "Hot Cocoa", pastries, hot foods and salads. The few times I stop at Irvington, is to catch up on errands, then chill at Black Cat- with a cup of Chai- since it's the only café of its kind in the area. With all this said, the relaxed ambience and vibe; in the end, is what sells.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Items are overpriced. Quite disappointed compared to previous management. Order the breakfast burrito and the chai latte. Also pro-tip. Specify beverage size at the beginning of the order or she will just grab the large cup and go.

Yelp
Loved this cute little place! We We arrived in town and wanted somewhere to grab an easy lunch. Crowded inside but they made room for our group of 4. We all had different lunch items, though one friend ordered breakfast. You could taste the freshness in all of the food! Super friendly wait staff and patient with me as I didn't know the way things worked here (you order and pay at the counter and then they bring the food to you). All around delicious, we would definitely go back and I'd recommend it to others! We all got a hot chocolate to go and it was freshly made on the spot. Delicious!!

Yelp
This place is a cute gem in Irvington. I had lunch there (chicken wrap) & my boyfriend had breakfast and both were delicious. Good portion size and decent prices. The atmosphere is a good vibe as well. Would come back.

Yelp
cute little place on main st. they appeared to be under renovations, but not sure. they don't have menus, the menu is on the wall. lots of cozy seating. the food was ok, but i came for the baked goods. I didn't see anything other than croissants and a few cookies. I tried the egg and potato burrito and the yogurt with granola. Both were average but the yogurt was less than average and my daughter didn't want to eat it. they were nice to enough to put the toppings on the side (berries and granola) so she ate that and a cookie. coffee was decent but served in a mug (dine in). great place to meet friends and chat.

Rick S.

Yelp
Staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. Looks like the kind of place with coffee and a few pastries, but has a very good breakfast and lunch menu. I've tried quite a few items and have not been disappointed with anything. I was surprised to see a review kvetching about the prices, and wonder if this person's been to a restaurant in the past year or so? Or anywhere else? Inflation is very real, especially in restaurants which are paying massively higher prices for everything. Some places have been cutting back on portion sizes or quality -- and I'm happy to say Black Cat is serving generous portions and the quality of everything I've tried has been great.

Yelp
Single worst cappuccino of my life. I asked if they could do a flat white and they said "I don't know what that is". So I wasn't expecting much. However it was so much worse than I thought possible. Espresso lovers steer clear.

Yelp
Delicious food in a warm, cute, and welcoming atmosphere! The staff was very accommodating with our party of five and were quick to put together a table. Everyone loves the coffee drinks they ordered. Two of us got the burritos and they were outstanding! One person got the country omelet and loved it, especially the fun factor of having the hash browns inside! The French Toast was very good and the side of hash browns came in a nice crock. The fruit was very fresh and flavorful. Only missed five stars because no table service and no credit cards.

Yelp
Quaint little cafe in the heart of Irvington. The food is prepared in a minimalistic and health conscious fashion and is very simple; but this gives you the option to add the condiments of your choice. Keep in mind it is cash only, and there is no "wait staff" here. When you are ready to place your order, you head up to the front and let them know. Overall, if you're looking for a "trendy" cafe this spot isn't for you; definitely has a more laid back, small town vibe. But, the food is good and the wait staff is incredibly nice.

Lucie R.

Yelp
Pretty cafe, delicious bagels, responsive staff. Caring owner. Will be coming back. Gladly recommend :)

Corina G.

Yelp
Small place with a good vibe, my sandwich was great my americano was delicious very cozy place to get your breakfast with friends.

Ben A.

Yelp
This place has the best home fries I've ever had in Westchester Country. It's also super clean and wasn't crowded. The staff were polite and professional. The coffee was a little burnt but you can doctor it up at the self help coffee area. I'd come back for the fries. I'd like to try them for lunch one day too. The only negatives are there are no restrooms that I could see. It's also pull in head on street parking, so be careful when you're backing out of your spot. Think lower Mamaroneck Avenue parking, its like that.

Yelp
This place is absolutely incredible. The made to order coffee is incredibly fresh and so full of flavor. We ordered breakfast and every single item was so good. The omelettes were fluffy and stuffed with fresh ingredients, bursting with flavor. Such a chill spot with an incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Found our new breakfast spot. Will be coming back again, again, again, again.

Yelp
Came here on my lunch break on a Friday- cute town, able to get parking, although it is street parking. I had the French toast- simple, fresh, and delicious. For the French Toast and a side cup of fruit included the total was 9.50. This did not include coffee or any beverage. Slightly pricey, but a cute café. *CASH ONLY

Yelp
I've found my go-to Sunday morning cafe. Finally. After two months of searching. They have extensive breakfast, lunch, and hot chocolate (!!) menus, as well as a nice assortment of caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks. The food is pretty pricey and not particularly memorable, but really, the location and atmosphere of the Cafe pay for itself. The cafe - even when full - isn't particularly loud, which is conducive to hardcore studying (or yelping). There aren't many outlets though - I think the only two I've found are by the tables closest to the doors..and these tend to be snagged pretty quickly. The few times I've been here, I've been able to find street parking directly in front of the cafe. The signs say that you only get an hour of parking, but I've parked in front of the cafe for 3-4 hours at a time and it hasn't been a problem yet. Tip: They are cash only, so remember to stop by the ATM on the way in!

Yelp
A place that has about a dozen different varieties of hot cocoa earns four stars simply based on that fact. Apart from the hot cocoa list, this is a very quaint and cozy place nestled into Main Street of Irvington, a short walk up the hill from the village's MetroNorth station. They provided an assortment of sandwiches, soups, salads, teas, coffees, and pastries as well. Seating was enough for perhaps 16 or so patrons, if I may guesstimate*. Unfortunately, when you come in with a party of three and single people are hogging tables meant for multiple patrons with their laptops, you do have to impatiently yet politely wait a bit for those people to "get a clue" and move to a table that wouldn't inhibit three people from sharing a common eating space. (Side note: FREE WI-FI! Oh, happy days!) I ordered their Grilled Fontina Cheese Sandwich with roasted red peppers and avocados on ciabatta bread. Beyond fabulous! One friend ordered a veggie burger that was to her liking. My other friend ordered a Caprese sandwich that was decent enough for her; she complained about the lack of promised pesto and never did finish the sandwich. You get your choice, with some sandwiches, of potato chips or pretzels. I've NEVER been offered pretzels as a side option, but it's an option I certainly like! (I ordered the chips, however, because I needed some salt and grease in my life. Of course.) When it finally came time for my hot cocoa, I opted for a small Nutella Hot Cocoa. Real Nutella is used! I saw the waitress scoop a spoonful straight from the jar and blend it with my cocoa. The result was delicious! Not overwhelmingly loaded with hazelnut flavor; quite complimentary, in fact. I'm sitting here typing and fantasizing about it...no shame...as Nutella pretty much equates to ambrosia in some culinary circles. Their menu boasted some tasty looking breakfast options! My friends and I will definitely be coming back to try them, along with the other varieties of cocoa. I've got a dozen more to try! * - I hate that term. Alas, I couldn't think of anything else to say. Have mercy.

Yelp
I just had the worst cup of coffee. Not sure how the food is but they had a line. Maybe smoothies and food is better.

Yelp
We ordered a lime chicken sandwich on a 7-grain roll and spicy breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito was rather small, but the sandwich was a decent size. Taste wise, the roll was a bit dry but the roll was toasted just right -- crunchy and nutty. The breakfast burrito was also good with "real" eggs. The mint chocolate was awesome. The decor was comfortable and had a small town feel to it. Cash only.

Yelp
We went for Saturday morning breakfast at the Black Cat and it was a very quaint experience. I had the three cheese omelette; I wanted quiche but they did not have the kind I was hoping for. The omelette was perfectly cheesy; full of mozzarella, cheddar and (insert third cheese I forgot here). It was also generously sized. The home fries on the side were also delicious, and I sampled a slice of French toast which was yummy too. The portions aren't necessarily tiny, but I wasn't fully full after my meal either. I think for the prices, they could spare a little bit more food per plate. The coffee is good and it's a cute location with outside seating overlooking the Hudson. They also do not accept cards, so be sure to have cash on hand. Overall a good visit. Might come back for some quiche some other time! Thanks!
