This seems to be like a Very busy place. The food isn’t bad but it can be a bit pricey. They have outdoor seating which is a nice option. I sat outside. I had the fried chicken sandwich which wasn’t bad. The fries seem to be a big hit for most customers. I like thicker fries usually but it was cool for the experience.

I recently visited Black Coffee Restaurant for the first time and ordered their 'American Breakfast.' Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The restaurant's ambiance is pleasant, with an attractive interior and popular outdoor seating. However, the service and food quality didn't match the inviting atmosphere. When ordering, the cashier seemed disengaged, which set an unfortunate tone for the meal. The food arrived incomplete, requiring multiple requests for condiments and sides. The multigrain toast I ordered appeared to be regular untoasted bread, and the bacon was initially overcooked to the point of being inedible. The server, who later identified himself as the manager, apologized and offered to rectify the bacon issue. However, there was a significant delay in addressing the problem. After finishing my eggs and waiting for about 15 minutes, I had to inquire about the status of the replacement bacon. This lack of follow-through was disappointing, especially from someone in a management role. When the bacon finally arrived, it was undercooked and excessively greasy, indicating a continued lack of attention to food quality. This experience demonstrated a concerning lack of attentiveness to customers' issues and overall food quality. Throughout the meal, there seemed to be a persistent inattention to detail and a lack of proactive service. As a first-time customer, I was disappointed that the food and service didn't align with the restaurant's appealing appearance. While I appreciate that restaurants can have off days, this experience has made me hesitant about returning. I hope that Black Coffee Restaurant can address these issues to better serve their customers in the future.

I frequently visit this place for coffee and food, and I usually have a great experience. However, today I ordered to-go. When I got home, I found a long, dark black hair wrapped in the fried chicken. The other food items were fine, but this incident was quite unpleasant. I hope the restaurant can take more precautions to ensure the sanitation of the food.

Google
This place is a delight. It's the perfect coffee shop. Ample tables, both indoor and out; bar seating for more casual/quick visits; great pastries; great food; great coffee; fast, friendly service. It really has become an instant favorite of mine! As for specifics, they do a *great* breakfast sandwich, but you have to ask for a croissant instead of the default English muffin. They put a delicious cream cheese spread on it, which was new and delightful to me. Their mochas are quite good as well. 🧑‍🍳🤌

Google
very busy for a local coffee shop. they have the usual coffee, pastries and food options with take away as well as tables inside and out. staff are friendly and handle the crowds well. there’s paid street parking as well as free on the back streets.

Came in here on a Sunday, after visiting the farmers market, to buy a cold drink but instead settled for some free ice cold water from the pitcher. I quite liked the vibe and decor and returned today for a hot chocolate and some banana bread. Not as busy as it was yesterday but there’s a constant buzz of conversation and music in the background so not ideal for taking calls unless you want to sit outside by the tree lined side walk which provides adequate shade from the sun & you can also scan to order. The hot chocolate was nice and the banana bread was okay, just a tad dry. I’ll be back to try something else on the menu and enjoy the ambience.

Google
Nice place for a leisurely coffee and chat with friends. Good food. Service is a bit slow, and there seems to be some sort of time/motion problem. Takes longer to receive drinks and food than other similar establishments. Go figure. Good quality baked goods. Reasonably priced.

Google
Black coffee is the best! It's our go to breakfast spot in the area. We love the coffee and golden milk lattes! Pastries are consistently delicious. Breakfast potatoes will blow your mind. Most of all we love the environment and staff. They are always warm, pleasant and kind and the chef always has a smile on his face and always greets us along with other customers! It really always makes for a great morning. Plenty of outdoor seating suitable for furry friends as well!

Yelp
The food was delicious, highly recommend!! We ordered the breakfast sandwich, French toast, side of bacon, and the blueberry cobbler latte. With a long line to order we were prepared to wait a while for our food but our food came out very quickly. Service was great and it was cute inside. Can't wait to try more things on the menu!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Still breaking DC law by not displaying prices. I asked the owner to do so, she said she "could" do it for the bakery items, hasn't happened over a month later. She said she would not add prices to the extensive hot drink menu. Said to look it up online, not easy to find even then. I told her it was standard across DC that prices are listed - her response? "I'll get right on it." Not. On the plus side, the black bean quinoa chili is good. And the almond raisin tart can be good, though sometimes they're fresh, sometimes they're stale.

Yelp
A great place for a coffee break with delicious pastries. Went after a few hours at the Kreeger.

Yelp
Had breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was packed! Have to order at the counter and then they deliver the food to you. Even though it was busy, the wait for the food was very reasonable. Had the mushroom omelette which was really well prepared.

Mary R.

Yelp
Exceptional service in the DC area for a coffee shop like BLACK Coffee . The quality of the food is so fresh, and it looks like they make everything on daily basis. The service is outstanding. .

Patty H.

Yelp
Love Black coffee! My favorite mushroom omelet, incredible grilled cheese sandwiches, fresh salads, decadent cheese scones and some of the best coffee in town. Also love the Peace, Love & Coffee cups with the VW van logo! Indoor and outdoor seating with heaters outdoors. I just try to avoid Black Coffee on weekends when the lines are long and people are jostling for tables.

Yelp
Good coffee and I recommend the pineapple coconut cake!!! Lots of outdoor seating, and very dog friendly. I also picked up a zipper hoodie!

Yelp
So my gf went into The Black Coffee this morning to get us some "Dirty" chai's. Once we left I took a sip and let's just say the Chai wasn't chia'en. I'm pissed but at least they have cool cups. We also had a sausage & egg biscuit but I wish it had a little more season to it though. It was good though but I'm still pissed that my chai that tasted like sweet water.

Yelp
Always great. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is inviting. You cannot go wrong here.

Yelp
Black Coffee is really nice coffee shop in the Palisades neighborhood of DC. The prices here are reasonable, the service great, and the decor inside is nice. While waiting for a friend for lunch, I stopped by and ordered a latte.

Suzie Z.

Yelp
Super cute and quaint spot that I happened to chance upon whilst making a trip out to Tentleytown. Will be back again if I ever happen to be in the area and looking for a spot to chill/do some light reading.

Alex I.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for a while but somehow never realized this coffee shop was here! I stopped by and got an oat milk latte with caramel, a breakfast sandwich with bacon, and a side of breakfast potatoes to go. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. They got my food to me faster than I thought, given the amount of customers. The atmosphere was very cozy and I loved the outdoor area. I was thrilled to see a couple of vegan items on the menu (my partner is vegan, I'll be bringing him back here!). The food was good and the portions were very generous. The breakfast sandwhich had a really nice amount of bacon and the eggs were well cooked. I especially liked the potatoes - great texture. The latte was very good as well. Not overly sweet, and a good proportion of caramel. I can definitely see myself becoming a regular here.

Yelp
Just stopped by after the Independence Day parade; despite being packed to the brim they were really fast with ordering and bringing out food. Besides serving coffee, they had several vegetarian and a few vegan dishes (incl one granola bar style pastry). We ordered the southwest grain bowl. It was very nice, nutritious, and a well-balanced mix of greens, grains, and dressing. At $15, it isn't something I'd go out of my way for (or any price, really) but it filled in in a pinch and I was grateful they had vegan food. My partner thought the salad was really good and disagrees about not going out of the way; good flavor, tender and integrous beans, and vegan queso fresco complemented nicely. Also they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
This place never fails. Exceptional food, great coffee and Pastries. We usually get the avocado and French toast and they are out of this world. Chef Cedric takes the best care of us and we recommend 10/10!!!

Mahsa A.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich and the fried chicken was ok. Nothing to remember. The avocado BLT was very good. Not pictured is their parfait! Which was phenomenon. Totally recommend! We also got their pancakes for the table which was average. Points taken is for their service. The staff were not and friendly unlike other Black restaurants family. They were also out of a bunch of options on their menu which was very disappointing. Overall, we will not go there again.

Alexis S.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best eggs Benedict I've had in DC... did not expect that from a coffee shop and was incredibly surprised! You've got to order it if you find yourself at Black Coffee!!

Rebecca R.

Yelp
I am surprised at the mixed bag of reviews here-many of which i note date during our pandemic- which really now, give em a break! Supply chain issues, staffing and a many viruses, I'm glad they're sticking it out! I've been coming periodically over the past year, and mostly for the coffee and the lovely staff, although they have these amazing oatbars that I just love--I will post a pix the next time I come. I have had their veggie club-which seems to change according to the season. The breakfasts are hearty and nicely plated, a friend that had the standard breakfast plate was happily pleased with it. This is a neighborhood cafe, where there is not really any other place like it so it does get crowded. Just get in line and be patient, this is not Starbucks-if that's what you want, it's just a few blocks away. Lots of outdoor seating, and very dog and kid friendly. One of these days I will get around to trying more of their menu, which clearly labels vegan/vegetarian/etc

Rhiannon R.

Yelp
Got a cold brew with sugar free syrup and oat milk. Honestly no complaints and the drink really hit the spot. I think it was just a busy day that morning as there was just a lot of people which made it feel a bit too cramped, but I didn't mind. Their service was pretty fast nonetheless. The place is actually so pretty and it has such a comforting vibe. Next time, I'll definitely try the food.

Yelp
Don't order the iced pistachio matcha unless a cup of plain milk with ice sounds appealing to you

Yelp
What a great addition to MacArthur Boulevard from the owners of BlackSalt. Tried this one out with a friend in a gorgeous Spring Day - the menu has many tempting choices and there's also baked goods on display at the counter. There are three seating sections: inside area with table service, inside area with counter-order/table delivery, and outside sidewalk seating area with counter-order/table delivery. I ordered the Roasted Beet & Burrata salad, my friend got fresh fruit with yogurt, and we also picked up a mini apple pie and a chocolate chip and pecan cookie. The salad was delish, the fruit dish declared very nice. The cookie was deemed pretty good (but not "drive out of your way" good) whereas the mini apple pie did in fact fall into that category. We sat outside, and despite being next to the busy street, it was very pleasant (especially since it's too early in the year for bugs) although it didn't appear the metal grating tables had been cleaned recently and some form of cat washing service next door took away from the ambience. One huge downside to sitting outside: smoking is permitted apparently, so our otherwise extremely enjoyable lunch and conversation was cut short when a guy sitting behind us decided to light up a cigarette and mostly hold it over and in back of his head (so the smoke literally rolled over us instead of him) as he chatted with his lunch companion. Really gross and sucked a lot of the pleasantness out of the experience.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Food is delicious with locally sourced fresh ingredients, this is a sibling of Black Salt, and the coffee and the atmosphere is a perfect Palisades neighborhood fave. I frequent this place at least once or twice a week

Yelp
Black Coffee had me at fair trade coffee and a breakfast sandwich with "scallion spread." Black Coffee is THE coffee shop in a tight knit neighborhood along the Potomac River near Georgetown NW called the Palisades. On weekend mornings, Black Coffee is a community meeting spot; you'll take witness to neighbors saying hi to everyone in the coffee shop. Here's what's to love: 1) Atmosphere: Black Coffee combines the trendy coffee shop vibe with it's exposed bricks and pipes and a beautifully curated pastry glass box with a true neighborhood spot. It feels like home. 2) Food: They sell a variety of items from breakfast sandwiches to lox bagels to muffins. One of (if not the BEST) breakfast sandwiches in DC is here. On a brioche bun comes a fried egg (with the yolk oozing out when you bite into it), scallion spread, cheese, and your choice of bacon, turkey or pork sausage (I recommend the pork sausage). 3) Coffee: They brew Rise Up Coffee, which is a local roastery in Maryland. It's fair trade and organic and good! Black Coffee is a GREAT spot to spent a morning. A few things to note: 1) It can get crowded on Sunday mornings so try to go right at 8AM when they open to snag a seat neat an outlet if you plan to tap into their free wifi, and 2) It's one of the least diverse coffee shops in the city due to the neighborhood. It's a beautiful community, but you'll notice most people look entirely the same.

Yelp
A family trip to nearby Glen Echo Park Aquarium meant that we needed that caffeine ASAP! I took a look at Yelp and decided to stop by Black Coffee after seeing all of the amazing breakfast sandwiches they offered. ! I had a really great experience with our counter person who took the time to explain their coffee program to us which was really nice. We ended up ordering a lox sandwich, their fried chicken biscuit, a vanilla lavender latte and a latte to eat out on their porch. Everything we had was delicious and the lox bagel was STACKED (honestly it could have made five sandwiches)! Unfortunately they ended up forgetting about my biscuit sandwich but the staff took care to make me another one quickly which was much appreciated. A note for management for next time: Please make sure that all staff members are aware that customers can overhear conversations. As I waited for my new order to be made, I saw several customers come in and ask for missing items as well. I witnessed staff arguing with the customers and with other staff members whether or not things were correct or not. I understand being in the weeds, especially during times like this but would be great to have a conversation about kitchen professionalism because the interactions were quite uncomfortable to witness.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Best scones in DC area. Friendly staff Healthy options. Family friendly

Ally K.

Yelp
the GOAT latte is one of my favorite coffees in the area. they have something for everyone! I enjoy spending time here with friends or getting some work done. Usually busy but generally fast service.

Bia T.

Yelp
Average food- not inspired, basic atmosphere- nothing original, service is fair, when getting coffee to go you will be verbally asked to tip by cashier- even if you order just a black coffee.

Bryan A.

Yelp
Always good! Iced Lavender Latte and an Almond Croissant is the go to! Service is great and the vibes are great. Outside of Starbucks this is the only coffee shop in the Palisades area that offers a full menu. Food is delicious for lunch.

Vinay V.

Yelp
I really like the name. Nice outdoor seating, great food, amazing coffee ! Love it ! It's amazing how DC food quality has increased over the years.

Whit H.

Yelp
How do I love Black Coffee- let me count the ways! I've been living in the Palisades for going on 3 years now, and this is *by far* my favorite place to go. Even if I didn't live here, the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere are enough to warrant an uber or a bike ride. I can't stay away for more than a couple days! The food is always amazingly executed, with at least a few vegan and gluten free options available on any menu. I love just about every soup and pastry they make- especially the cold ones in the summer! They keep their menu and daily offerings creative and inspired which obviously keeps me coming back and eating more gluten than I should. I had their pastry chef make whoopie pies for my birthday party in April and they received rave reviews from everyone who had one. They also change their menu seasonally which always gives me something to look forward to, lol. Their drinks are also well executed and seasonally updated. I believe they make their syrups in house and they're a lot more natural and less sugary than many other syrups I've had from various chains in DC. The lavender especially tastes light and floral, it can often taste perfumey or artificial and I get none of that from theirs. Their cold brew is delicious and their nitro is my favorite by far. When I was drinking more I used to get their mimosas as a weekend treat- there was a time they had bellinis where they made the peach puree in-house (i think it was peach season) which made my whole summer that year. If not for the staff and service maybe I wouldn't come so often, but everyone has always been so sweet and accommodating to my frankly, high maintenance requests (see aforementioned whoopie pies). Whether it's making an herbal tea over ice with a drop of simple syrup, ice water for my pooch, or gluten free requests, I can trust that it will be done with the utmost   care. I have witnessed customers be truly awful to the baristas and staff at register, which only speaks to their entitlement. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that many businesses are still recovering from the past 18 months, still training new staff, etc. Barking "I ordered a large!" or "is that oat milk??" does not help anyone and will not get you service with a smile. You're not that important, even if you do live in the Palisades. Sorry for the novel x_x Finally the atmosphere is and has always been adorable. Clean bathrooms, cute accents, expansive outdoor seating with heating during the winter- tbh I never sat inside even pre-pandemic, but they have greatly developed their patio space and it is hands down the best outdoor seating of any Palisades restaurant, bonus that they're (very) dog friendly, with bowls and ice water provided on hot days! My dog is always excited when he realizes where we're going, despite a general unwillingness to walk in his advanced age. There is often good music playing and a water station too. I will say I miss their dinner menu/hours, and I hope they bring it back someday! And so I must conclude my ode to BCDC, in whom I would purchase shares if they were available. I wrote this review after witnessing the above customer interaction and feeling a lot of disgust at the audacity. While it may seem like I have some stake in this business with my glowing praise- I do not- and I almost never leave 5 star reviews either. They're just thatttttt gooooood.

Vivian R.

Yelp
A boutique coffee shop from the owners of Black Salt with chic but inviting decor and higher quality coffee and pastries than existing chain options. Staff members were very pleasant and quick to prepare our vanilla lattes. I'm generally wary of mushy, overly sugary pastries in coffee shops but was pleased by the lemon danish: sweet-tart lemon custard in a crisp, croissant-like crust. The menu is better than most coffee shops - a small daily selection of breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads, as well as more substantial breakfast choices on the weekend menu. I'm looking forward to lingering over a book and a meal! Four stars for now since it was a quick visit; will update after I'm able to sample the tasty looking bunch menu.

Chris L.

Yelp
Food is a 4 customer service is zero - or practically zero. Customer service - lines out the door but 1 register, don't phone in an order because the rude manager will simply tell you to wait in the queue to pick up and pay on a line where there is no social distancing or even an attempt to - I fail to understand a business that does well that thinks having people standing around waiting in this Covid environment is sustainable - their online ordering is wonky and doesn't work (which led me to phone the order in) just an overall terrible customer experience where I felt unsafe due to lack of covid protocols (despite masking mandates) Food is good but won't go back for the above. You guys need to do better.

Barbara A.

Yelp
Average food at good proportions. The staff asks to be tipped when ordering which awkward. The establishment is clean but the outside area is unkept.

Susan L.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came across this golden nugget of a coffee shop/sandwich/breakfast bakery after a day of kayaking at fletchers cove (amazing!). The coffee was 5 stars, and the chef took our order at the register - making amazing food recommendations!! I had the veggie club. The chipotle aioli was life... my girlfriend had the lox on a toasted pretzel roll. She gave it two thumbs up. We were soo happy for nourishing & scrumptious food after paddling for a few hours. Will be back!!!'n

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Pretty nice coffee shop. Have had The Goat drink a couple times (iced) and enjoyed it! If you live in the area and are looking for someone to walk to then it's a good option.

Cobb D.

Yelp
My wife and I found this cafe to be a wonderful place to grab a bite to eat and talk. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and food. She got one of the breakfast sandwiches. Twice, she said this is good and wants to come back and get it again. I got their Cobb Salad. The size was nice and it was almost hearty, but not quite. Still I was pleased and I felt good. For me I like a lot of dressing, so if that is you then you might want to ask for additional dressing on the side. For a place where you want to eat and talk, this place is hard to beat. I definitely plan to come back again. The downside is there is no parking and you have to pay at the meter or you can use Park Mobile.

Amanuel D.

Yelp
First time here, was honestly surprised by how friendly and easygoing the staff were. Upon greeting me they made sure to let me know of the half priced baked goods. They then proceeded to take my order with a smile on their faces. They made pleasant small talk while still remaining focused on my order. The baked goods were absolutely delicious while the coffee was downright impressive as well. The little things count and this place made me feel like a regular immediately. Don't hesitate to drop by if you're in the area.

Alexander D.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Really cool staff, good coffee, and some delicious brunch options. The prices are surprisingly reasonable given the location and high quality of the products.

Amit M.

Yelp
Love this place, which we enjoy after a hike on Battery Kemble trail. It's always buzzing, has great coffee and food, and plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Even standing in line waiting to order can be a treat if you look around at the intricate indoor decor.

Misty S.

Yelp
Stopped by in Dec 2021. Great hot drink varieties. I love that they offer Golden Lattes. Tried the pumpkin benets and the Avocado Toast. Both were delicious but I really enjoyed the avocado toast. I ordered mine with amoked salmon. I will definitely need to stop by again. Bonus: on Sunday there was an outdoor market.

Ethan B.

Yelp
Outstanding breakfast sandwiches. Quick service, plenty of room for seating. Worth the trip!

John A.

Yelp
The coffee is good as is the food but the service is abysmal. The employees are not friendly, helpful or even nice. It is actually funny how mean they are to the customer like it is an inside joke between the staff about how offensive they can be.

Rodney W.

Yelp
Great place in Palisades to enjoy coffee and a breakfast bite. Enjoyed the outdoor dining on a perfect Spring Day. Lox bagel and omelette were incredible. Drove in from Loudoun County and will gladly do it again. Great service and ambience. Will be back soon.

Tim S.

Yelp
Ever been to one of those places where you've asked yourself "why on earth did I do this" well that's the experience you'll have going to this coffee shop! Honestly I Do Not understand the positive reviews. I've had better lunches at Burger King! Very disappointed And Not Inexpensive either. Neighbors please demand more for you bucks!

Alece R.

Yelp
I spend quite a bit of time(and money) here on my way to work. (across the street at the library) I have become somewhat of a regular and at least 2 of the workers know what I want-a large iced chai tea latte with skim milk. It is the best chai that I've had. Sometimes, I get one of their amazing muffins. The chocolate chip ones are delicious! Black Coffee has a nice neighborly feel to it. I feel like a member of the community. I often see my library patrons here. Many of them are small kids who point me out to their parents. I hope others will feel the same about the food and the atmosphere. 2 thumbs up!

Ricardo R.

Yelp
Unfortunately, we had to come and try this coffee shop, and I emphasize "coffee shop", we ordered 2 chicken sandwiches called Chicken Sammy, very simple and nothing great at $12 a piece it's just a thin slice of chicken, slice of lettuce, slice of pickle, slice of cheese and some salad dressing! Also ordered 2 iced teas, and wanted a refill since it's a small glass of iced tea, they wanted $1 to refill it and also they expect you to clean/bus your own table, really? For a total cost of $36.83 tax and tip included for lunch this is truly a ripoff!! Don't wast your time; although, the 2 lattes we had the other day were good but at $14 with tax and tip, again not worth it! will never be back!

Gustavo O.

Yelp
I had difficulty deciding the rating as a coffee house should not be judged only for the quality of the coffee but also for the ever important pastries. In the coffee category they would get 5 stars as it is one of the best I have tried. However, if you have the bad luck of pairing it with one of their semi stale pastries it takes 2 stars of the coffee right then and there. They definitely should upgrade their pastries to the level of their excellent coffee.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Pretty good neighborhood cafe. Convenient to come here from the palisades library. Plenty of street parking around the library. They use rise up coffee which we have come to like this past summer. Kids get crayons and coloring sheets so that's always a plus. A lot of people come with their dogs and sit outside. They have a full menu even though the name suggests only coffee. I've tried their breakfast burrito and cobb salad. Both were pretty good, but the salad needs some avocado. Decent prices and big portions. we'll likely add this to the rotation of neighborhood restaurants to frequent.

Kelsey T.

Yelp
Adorable little cafe. I came here with a friend and we had a really cute brunch. Got the vegan breakfast sandwich and the focaccia was amazing! The atmosphere is very chill and nice too. Definitely try their lavender latte :) the staff was super sweet and i will definitely be going back there!!!
