I had a VERY bad experience at a local restaurant and feel I need to share. Me start by saying first and foremost. The food and service have been really really good do a handful of times we have eaten there before.
My wife and I ordered our food with no modifications to the order. We a also ordered two glasses of water. Our food came out and her order was correct but mine wasn't. Apparently, there are two different versions of the meal that I ordered. I am not familiar with the menu to know that. The server offered to make it correct but I declined. I have worked in kitchens before. I don't trust this restaurant enough to send food back for correction. That one is on me. The server offered to bring me a bowl of gravy because what I wanted came topped with gravy so I agreed. After I took one bite I tasted the green peppers. What I originally wanted did not say that it came with green peppers. The menu said it came with pepper, but not green peppers. I even double checked. It said "pepper" (singular). Those are two VERY different items/ingredients. I sent the meal back and decided not to order anything else. When we got the check, there was a charge for a cup of coffee, a soda as well as my meal and a 10% discount. When I disputed the charge for my meal with the manager I was told that I had to pay for my meal because they comp'd me a bowl of gravy. My original order came TOPPED WITH GRAVY. Only after my wife pointed out that we had water and not coffee or soda did they take it off.
They would not budge on the ticket even though I didn't get the correct meal due to the server not making sure the order was correct. Then, there were items on the plate that were not listed on the menu. They even tried to add items to our order that we did NOT have. (soda and coffee totaling $6). I understand it is a small business and some of them are struggling. That is definitely not the way to earn money. Stealing from your customers is a quick way to put yourself out of business.
I put cash on the register with the receipt. It was enough to more than cover the bill and a generous tip for our server if they had actually done the right thing. The right thing would have been not charging me for food that I did not order, only had one bite of the wrong order and subsequently sent back.
I've worked in the service industry for a very long time. I also know that customers are not always right. In fact, customers are sometimes jerks! This incident is squarely on the restaurant. They made a mistake, and they refused to make it right. I did not make a scene at the restaurant but that is the last penny they will ever get from me or my family.
And since you were wondering, it is the Black Creek café. I ordered the Big Boy. I did not know there was a Big Boy breakfast as well as the Big Boy burrito that I actually wanted and thought I was ordering. Think twice before you go there and if you do double check your receipt to make sure they didn't add anything that you did not order!
